• Repeat the name of the loved one on the other side that
you would like to connect with. As you say his or her name,
breathe and imagine their energy entering the funnel shaped
space. Become aware of any impressions and sensations or
feelings as you repeat your loved one’s name. You may feel
an increase in energy, especially in your head, spine or hands.
This might be like a buzzing or a buildup of pressure. You
might feel more spacey or like you are floating and you may
see flashes of color or light and images of your loved one. Do
not analyze or think about what you receive. Just observe, re-
ceive and say aloud whatever you become aware of. You can
speak this into the tape recorder.
• When you feel that the process is complete thank your loved
one for working with you. Open your eyes and write down
whatever you have received.
Level Two: Convert Energy into Useable Form
The next step in developing your ability to communicate with the
other side is learning how to discern, understand and put into
words the energy information that you receive. We all receive intuitive information and we all unknowingly connect with our loved
ones in the spirit realm. We just do not always know that we are
doing this. Even if we are aware that we are receiving energy from
the other side, we do not always know how to decipher its meaning.
This next level of development will help you to transfer the energy that you receive from the other side into a form that you will be
able to communicate with and better understand.

Imagination
Learning how to employ your imagination to work in unison with
your intuition helps you to put words and meaning to energy in-
formation. There is of course, a difference between connecting with those on the other side and simply imagining that you are doing so.
Yet, when used correctly, aligning your imagination with your intuitive ability can be invaluable. When they work hand in hand, your
imagination can provide you with additional information and an
avenue for deeper communication. The key is to first tune into the
energy vibrations of your primary medium type and allow it to guide you.
Clairvoyance
In these exercises you will be developing the psychic skill of clairvoyance. This is the ability to perceive energy information in the
form of an image. The image that you observe may be a symbol,
a figurative or a realistic representation of energy. In this exercise I ask you to “allow an image to emerge”. If an image does not au-tomatically surface, consciously use your imagination to create
one. You may feel as if you are making this up. That is perfectly
fine. Go with this and remember that your imagination is the fa-
cility through which you give meaning and form to energy. You
may “see” the image through your inner vision or you may instead
know, think or feel it. This may seem unusual but as you practice
these exercises it will make more sense. If an image does not feel
“right” or if it fades and feels as if does not have energy, ask for another image to emerge that better represents the energy that you
are intuiting. This might not make logical sense to you, but do it
anyway. In time you will begin to get an inner intuitive feel for what is actual energy information and what is simply your imagination.
You will also be asking the person in spirit who you are invit-
ing into this exercise to send you a message through an image. It
is highly likely that you will not understand the image that you re-234 ~ Mastering Medium Abilities: Exercises and Meditations ceive. Keep in mind that your loved ones in spirit are also practicing communicating with you. They may, like you, be learning and
improving their intuitive ability to communicate. Accept whatever
you receive. In time you will understand the meaning behind it. I
have learned to not overthink the images and information I receive
in readings. Recently I gave a reading to a client who came to see
me to communicate with his sister who had passed over. During
the session she kept showing me the image of a cartoonish looking
elephant. It seemed odd and for a minute or two I said nothing.
Finally I described the elephant to her brother and he started to cry.
A week or so before her passing in an automobile accident, she gave him a tee shirt with a cartoon elephant dancing on the front of it.
The meaning or significance of the images that you receive, are
not important. This exercise is to help you to transfer energy from your innate medium modality into different forms.

are receiving from the other side

ing from a picture or personal object of your loved one the other

Beginning Meditation for All Types
• Close your eyes and breathe in long and deep relaxing breaths.
Move the energy through the body and exhale any stress and
tension. Continue this cleansing and relaxing breath. When
you feel relaxed imagine that you are breathing white light
down through the top of the head. Move this breath through
the body and exhale any stress and tension.
• As you breathe in white light energy down through the top of
the head, move it through your body and exhale it through
the heart. Continue breathing in white light. Allow it to circu-
late through your body, loosening and relaxing any stress and
tension. Then exhale through the heart.
• As you continue to breathe in white light, imagine your mind
opening. Feel the white light breath fill your mind with white
light. Exhale any stress and tension. Continue to breathe in
white light energy and feel your heart and mind open.
• Breathe in white light breath and move it through the body.
Imagine your body filling with white light, open and relaxed.
Continue to breathe in this way. Breathe in white light and
imagine it expanding beyond the physical body and sur-
rounding you. Imagine your energy field opens and glows
with this white light. Continue to breathe white light into
your mind, heart, body and spirit. Feel yourself invigorated
and at one with the spirit realm.
• Now proceed to one of the four mediations to complete the
exercise.

Emotional Mediums
• Breathe white light energy down through the top of your head
and exhale through your heart. Draw into your awareness a
loved one who has passed over. Repeat their name a few times.
Send him or her, the message that you would like to commu-
nicate. Ask your loved one to send you a message. Gently re-
peat this request a few times. Keep breathing and relax. Feel
your heart opening.
• Imagine your heart opening and receiving the emotional mes-
sage of your loved one. You might want to repeat their name
a few times. If you do not feel much, ask your loved one to
intensify the energy.
• Allow an image to emerge that represents the emotional en-
ergy that you are receiving. Continue to breathe and relax. Ask
yourself. “If the emotional energy that I am receiving was an
image what would it look like?”
• Continue this process until you have a sense of an image. Ac-
cept whatever you receive without needing to figure out its
significance and meaning. The image that you receive, may
illicit an emotional response or feeling from you. This may
seem perplexing, yet it is a sign of its genuineness.
• When you ready, send warm thoughts of love and gratitude to
your loved one. Open your eyes. Write down or speak into the
tape recorder the description of the image that you received.
Physical Medium
• Hold a picture, object or a piece of paper with your loved
ones name on it. Breathe white light energy down through
the top of your head and exhale through your heart. Draw
your awareness to the picture, object or piece of paper in your
hand. Repeat the name of the loved one a few times. Send him
or her, the message that you would like to communicate. Ask

your loved one to send you a message. Gently repeat this re-
quest a few times. Keep breathing and relax.
• Imagine that you are receiving an energy message from your
loved one through whatever you are holding in your hand.
You might want to repeat the name of your loved one a few
times. If you do not feel much ask your loved one to intensify
the energy.
• Allow an image to emerge that represents the energy that you
are receiving. Continue to breathe and relax. Ask yourself. “If
this energy that I am receiving was an image what would it
look like?”
• Continue this process until you have a sense of an image. You
may not see, but know what this image is or you may experi-
ence the image as a gut feeling. Accept whatever you receive
without needing to figure out its significance and meaning.
• When you ready, send warm thoughts of love and gratitude
to your loved one. Open your eyes. Write down or speak into
the tape recorder a description of the image that you received.
Mental Medium
• Breathe white light energy down through the top of your head
and exhale through your heart. Draw into your awareness a
loved one who has passed over. Repeat their name a few times.

this energy that I am receiving was an image what would it

• Continue this process until you have a sense of an image. Most likely you will experience a sense of knowing or your mind
will fill with thoughts. If this knowing or your thoughts were
an image. What would it look like? Accept whatever you re-
ceive without needing to figure out its significance and mean-
ing. Try not to overthink what you are receiving. Just breathe
and observe without trying to make sense of what you receive.
• When you ready, send warm thoughts of love and gratitude
to your loved one. Open your eyes. Write down or speak into
the tape recorder a description of the image that you received.

may see many images, flashes of color, light or fragments of
fleeting visions. Ask for one image and focus on this. Accept
whatever you receive without needing to figure out its signifi-
cance and meaning. Try not to overthink what you are receiv-
ing. Just breathe and observe without trying to make sense of
