"From have I become me a vampire?" she answered, smiling. "I love this life."
Chapter 6
I lay on that hard and icy rock which was my recent bed. I felt a discomfort; I missed a soft mattress, a pillow and a bedspread to cover my body. But my discomfort grew into larger when I went to bed without looking at Eros's eyes. Since I arrived at that castle, I had no more seen him; we had no contact, with the exception of when I saw him, sleeping like a bat, that meeting I didn't take into account.
I thought about my mother. How could she be at that moment? Longing pressed my chest like a mill, wherein I wanted she could
be there with me. A tear rolled on my face; automatically I interrupted it with my fingers.
When
I realized the sleep would not visit me as soon as, then I rose from my bed and walked to the window and peeked through the curtains. I could see nothing out there, only the ground which was covered with snow and the accelerating wind was impetuous. I could almost touch the dark clouds, from the window of my bedroom.
I remained standing near the window till the darkness had gone away
and came into a gray sky. The time was cloudy. I perceived it was another day. There was dawned and I remained standing next to window, whole night, watching that infinite darkness, increased with several songs of a swift wind.
I left my bedroom and arrived in the main room, a silence had governed the place, and everyone was still asleep. I walked through three - distinct corridors, the last corridor took me to a central door. I decided to open it carefully and not making noise, avoiding waking up the others in that castle. I was outside the castle, everything liked much different than I was accustomed to see at the planet Earth. I put my feet on the snow. Stepping on it, then I walked to enormous woods, it seemed the forest was infinite. There were stones in the whiteness of the snow. Several brown trees, its branches were completely dry; there was no life at that place, no green plant, no flower, and no wood foot.
I went on walking, without notion I was every time farther from the castle of my father. My footsteps was arduous due to the ice, it was freezing my feet. I felt much cold, the temperature was agreeable and out of it, it was impossible to resist as much frost. I stopped near
a dark- water lake; its tonality was gray and navy blue. My delicate toes touched on it, making the movements seem like a crescent mill. I could see my countenance on the dark water of the lake. It was the last time I would see my image reflecting on it. I felt a stabbing in my chest, a strange sensation; something would happen to me at that day. I stepped back, as I became afraid of what I had seen at the lake, the water had been transformed into blood. And when I turned, I was awfully frightened, for seeing Bizak in front of me; probably he followed me as far as there.
"Why are you frightened?" he asked.
I looked back at the lake and the water turned back to its normal color, it was only a mirage mine.
"I saw blood at the lake." I said
, innocently.
"Blood at the lake?" He ran his eyes over the water,
distrustful; he knew everything was fruit from my imagination.
"It is cold here! I will go back to the castle."
I felt a discomfort at my feet; they were dormant due to the ice on the ground.
"Your feet are becoming
into purple." he said as he was looking at them.
"I didn't have realized it." I said, looking at them, too.
“Hold my hand! I will take you, without you needing to step on the Ice." stretching out his hand, I could see the symbol of Neptune on his left wrist.
"It is not necessary."
I said, rapidly, my eyes ran over his engraving.
"It
aches nothing." he insisted, and his voice sounded in a cheerful mood.
I stared at him for a few seconds, till I had a reaction. I held out his palm. I saw our bodies floating over the snow, it seemed like
a magic. We arrived at the castle main door in seconds my feet touched on the ground.
He perceived my innocent face, as I was astonishment due to his vampire tricks.
“How did you do that?” I asked, surprised, and a smile came into my lips.
"I took a magic potion. What a pity!
This lasts... Seconds.”
He answered with humor. His attitude that morning made me see him as a new friend. The vampire exploits had its charms and its uses and what Bizak just did, it had fitted in one of them. We extended the
conversation as far as the living room. Bizak laughed at his humorist comments.
We became silent as soon as we saw Eros leaned against a seat, he was watching rigidly our behavior. He knew we came from a funny situation.
I lowered my head, avoiding staring at that illicit look. Bizak looked at my shy face through the disapproval of Eros.
He noticed Eros influenced me somehow, exerting a power over me, one enigmatic look at me and it is enough for me to change my behavior. Closing me to everyone, who was around me,
I remained mute.
“Do you stay up at this time?” Bizak questioned, surprised, seeing Eros out of the bed too soon.
"My corpse took the habit of the routine of schedule from Earth." he joked. "You aren't also accustomed to stay up at a time like this, playing to float on the snow.”
At that moment, he had made it clear that he had seen everything that had happened to Bizak and I from the outside the castle. I felt a
fatigue; irony did not match Eros, and it made him infamous.
"Feet of Valkyrie were frozen."
Bizak justified, manifesting his good side.
"You practiced the best action of the day!" Eros reinforced more and more
his satiric joke.
“I
think you are unique here, who deserves applauses at everything you do." Bizak protested, furious. “You’re the one- number at all!”
He walked away from there before a discussion could be formed. I was alone with Eros, in that enormous
room; he could clearly hear my footsteps on the ground as I approached him.
“Is it just my impression or you two hate each other?” I asked, staring at his covered face.
"The word 'hate' is praise."
“What's wrong with him?”I insisted.
“What's wrong with them?” he pronounced my question at his way.
I shook my head; I was confused by so many incognitos. Eros noticed I was not concerned about his frivolous comments. I rose from the couch and held my arm, bringing me next to him; I could see his face so closely. His expression was so arduous.
“I don't know why, but I do not trust them." he assumed.
"How is that, they?"
I stared at him, requiring an objective response.
"Bizak and… Valeska… There’s something wrong about them." he said, so serious.
"They are fine.”I said, soft.
"This is the problem; they don't look what they really are."
"Sometimes you make me insecure."
I said and looked at throughout; Eros made me fell lost in a serpent nest.
"Stay far from them
, hold Valeska's distance."
He said and set free my arm and walked away. He looked repented for having said that things to me, after he saw a great fear in
my weak look.
I intended to say something and enter into particulars, but I was interrupted by his absence, he was not there any longer. He disappeared like smoke into the air.
Valeska appeared soon after.
"You are here."
She said with a weak smile, I stared at her face and I did it different from other times, I was looking for any detail that could be similar to the tings Eros said to me moments ago. I always trust him, but those suspicions were unacceptable. I saw Bizak and Valeska like candidates to be good friends. That could be the problem of Eros, he could be jealous of my friendship, in fear they could take his place in my life.
"Vincent
ordered I take care of you." She looked into my eyes and said: “Today will be a big day."
She held my ar
m and guided me to another room of the castle.
"Come with me, I must dress you."
Chapter 7
I spent hours over the care of Valeska, it all
was recommended by my father. We were locked into my bedroom, while she was choosing a dress for me to wear at night, all I knew it would have a celebration in honor of me.
It was a kind of welcome at that castle.
Valeska took care of everything about the ceremony arrangements and also about me. Some time before the ceremony, she came back into my bedroom and helped me wear my dress and she also helped me finish my makeup. When she concluded her task, she stepped out of the bedroom.
I remained
there for a few minutes, walking from side to side and so much mystery hovering over me. Suddenly I remembered the blood on the lake; I thought that mirage could be a notice about what could happen to me later on. That thought made me more nervous. I should have no fear of it. I was in the castle of my father, together with my friends. What evil could they make against me?
I
thought like this and became relaxed.
Half-hour after, I left my bedroom, I wanted to go the living room, where it would happen the event. I had difficulty to walk with my long dress, which was moving slowly and with difficulty on the ground.
When I arrived at the living room, everyone was there, except my father. I stopped at the beginning of
the great hall when I realized everyone looked at me, that is, Valeska, Bizak and Eros. Valeska with her attentive manner immediately offered me her right hand and that way I could be next to her.
"I didn't tell this before, but you are beautiful in this dress!"
She praised me as I approached her.
However
, I turned down my face, ashamed; I knew Bizak and Eros had heard the praise. I didn't want to be attention center that evening. While all my life I had been unperceived before people and I being the protagonist in the history at those time, this was anything out of question.
"Red matches you." Bizak added as he looked at me from head to foot.
Eros said nothing since I arrived at the place and his silence made me look ridiculous in that dress and that make-up. Valeska abused of striking colors, making me look like a nightclub dancer by means of that red lipstick on my lips and dark shade around my eyes. My blood - red dress was pretty, in my opinion it was outrageous. I had never dressed that way. But everything has its first time...
Minutes
after my father came to the living room and he looked at me, beside Valeska.
"My child is beautiful!" He said as he held my
delicate hands.
Without interruption he kissed them affectionately.
Though
he was a monster, but it had moments he looked so human and so distinct. That made me forget I was dealing with a vampire.
"
Today will be you big day!" he said, staring at my neck.
I looked at everyone around me as I
heard those words and I could see at their expressions they knew exactly what would happen to me. However they had no permission to talk about, they could not destroy my great surprise.
My father gave up my hands and walked to
the enormous dining- table, where the meals and drinks were. He held the glasses and filled up with a red liquid, it was made by vampires. It was a mixture of blood and alcohol. He distributed the glasses to everyone, except to me.
“You still cannot drink this.” he said and raised his glass, making an invitation to toast the occasion. “Let's make a toast!”
Everybody came holding their glasses.
“We’ll make a toast to celebrate the new world of my daughter!”
He said and stared at me, as he seemed satisfied.
“VALKYRIE, THE VAMPIRE PRINCESS!"
He exclaimed and leaned his glass against each other.
I remained in my place, watching everything, since I was not allowed to share that toast and that drink.
Valeska walked to the dining table and brought me a glass with an unknown liquid.
“You
can take this; it is a red fruit juice." She explained.
I tasted it and the taste was strange, it was like anything so unlike than I had taken before.
“Did you like it?” She asked.
“It's different ...” I answered and I could not describe the feeling.
My father remained next to Eros and Bizak as they were enjoying greatly their drinks and chatting. I could not hear the theme of their conversations, though it seemed interesting as it was pointed out on their faces. Valeska stole my attention after she had started a conversation.
“After you have become one of us, you will know how fine it is.” she said.
I could see on her face a pretentious look, with intent to convince me that mortality had no grace.
“You will have everything you want ... and conquer everything you want”
She continued with a meek voice.
“What do you want?” She asked me, just imagining which would be my answer.
I answered nothing I just looked at Eros with the glass in his right hand, listening to my father all the time.
My devoured look answered her question. Valeska knew deeply ... what Eros represented to me; nevertheless
she did not leave to be a lady. And all ladies could know perfectly when another lady was in love. She just wanted to confirm her suspicions and they should be affirmed by my own lips.
She looked at me and then she looked at
Eros. And again her astute look came on me.
“Eros is your great desire.” she declared.
At that moment I expelled the juice, which was choked in my throat, due to the scare I took to hear such affirmations. Everyone looked at me as they seemed worried about my conduct.
“This always happens to me ...
” I said as I tried to disguise the situation.
I had no courage to look at Valeska; she knew perfectly well which the motive I choked with my juice was. I did
not admit it for cowardice what was really happening to me. Valeska added an investigative look at me; she knew to detect I would not say anything to her, not at that time, at that moment, perhaps another day.
We remained at that
festive atmosphere for hours, the glasses did not stop empty. I could not stand to take more juice and look many times in the direction of Eros and obtain no retribution his, not even a look his ... A smile his... An approximation his.
My father came on behind me and put his cold hand on my right shoulder, I retracted the muscles in my body, feeling a shivering sensation. My time had arrived, the so waited moment on that night.
“It's your time, Valkyrie.” my father said. “You’ll have everything you want.”
His three servants were approaching, every one side by side, standing and watching
us; they knew what my father predestined when he said: ‘IT’S YOUR TIME.’ I remained without understanding. Why my time? Why was all that mystery around me?
“We cannot wait any longer, if we don’t do what it must be done, you will die.” my father said, looking at my face. “You must become one of us while you can.”
Eros and I stared at each other in silence. I didn’t know what to do or what to say.
“
MAKE YOUR CHOICE
!" My father insisted. Will who of them suck your sweet blood?” Vincent asked me.
Before me, the three vampires were standing, at a short distance. They were in order, that is, Eros, Valeska and Bizak. I felt a great fear of which I could not kill, I was about to become into a vampire and live my immortality in the darkness, among them and away from my mother and from the planet Earth.
“Who do you choose?” My father insisted.
My bleary look by a spring of tears wished only one direction, only one creature. My father and his three servants saw clearly my choice through
my impetuous look.
“
EROS
”
My father affirmed aloud.
“I cannot do this” Eros shook his head, rebelling against my
choice.
“She chose you!”
Vincent said severely.
“I cannot ....”
He pleaded.
“You must do this now!” his master ordered, irritable.
I continued scared, awaiting the elect to end all suspense and do what should be done.
Eros approached me as he was dissatisfied; he did not want to penetrate his sharp teeth into my neck. There was a reason, I didn't know what it was, and no vampire would refuse an invitation like that. Valeska and Bizak would do it with pleasure what was designated to Eros.
My father went away as he saw Eros in front of me, almost ready to obtain the first bite. His hand came down on my shoulder and carefully removed my hair from my neck with his other hand. I saw his eyes turning into gray.
It was arrived at my time.
He leaned his lips against my neck, my heartbeats and my heavy breathing came to his ears like a melody, like an invitation to sink his teeth into
my tremulous flesh. I looked up at the dark ceiling and a strange feeling came over my body, a burning sensation went through my flesh, it seemed I was catching fire, I was yield to the pleasant bite of Eros, being bitten by a bloodsucker it should be somewhat unpleasant and he became it Tasty. My body writhed for a few seconds and followed by light moans, almost impossible to hear. I was leaning my hands against his neck, a way I tried to endure the pain. The apple of my eyes spun round like a spiral, they hanged colors, and it was the effects from the bite. Eros escaped his control, the bite should not take so long, and he was insatiable in my blood, he wanted to suck my blood up to the last drop.
His agitation was so great he squeezed my ribs with debauchery.
He not only had sucked my sweet blood, but also my thoughts, at the end of the bite he had visions about me, when he went through my unconscious, several pictures of me wanting a kiss from him, All the kisses I had imagined about him and me, from when I met him in Earth. They were revealed to him. Even a kiss I imagined by me hours before the bite, as soon as my eyes were on him when I arrived at the great hall. His bite revealed everything I felt for him, that is, my wishes and my unbridled passion.
After he had seen and
felt my emotions, he felt sick, a torment invaded his soul, preventing him of continuing sucking my blood. He walked away from me, with his fist next to his lips which was smeared with my blood.
I fell to the ground, helpless, I felt a weakness. I saw very little, but I could see everyone was transfigured; their gray eyes and their long teeth.
Eros took delight in my blood, it pointed out their thirst for blood, and they wanted to do the same thing, except my father, who at the time had no courage to stick his teeth on my skin.
He could bite anyone in the world, except me; after all I was part of him.
My neck was with two-small holes, they were made by the teeth of Eros, my blood still trickled down my neck.
My father knelt beside me and held my head to get my lips against his wrist, he made a cut into it with his huge claw, unifying my taste at a few drops of his blood, and I licked his blood and wanted more and held his wrist and sucked enough to trounce my thirst for blood. Drinking his blood, it was required to continue my immortality.
