The author of the text on which
NaÄertanije
was based was the Czech FrantiÅ¡ek Zach, whose template envisaged a federal organization of the South Slav peoples. But where Zach had written âSouth Slav', GaraÅ¡anin substituted âSerb' or âSerbian'. This and other changes transformed Zach's cosmopolitan vision into a more narrowly focused Serbian nationalist manifesto.

Among those who came to watch the antics of the deputies was the young drifter Adolf Hitler.
