He lifts me up on the bench and removes my jeans and panties and I do the same to him. I remove his clothes as well, but stop him before he goes any further. As I pull a condom out of my bag,
a look of loathing crosses his face.

“Remember, i
f it’s not on, then it’s not on.” I smile at him.

“Aren’t you on something yet?”
These things are just not as great as the real thing. “I shake my head. An expression of annoyance wipes across his face.

“I have to go back to the doctor’s this week for it, so let’s forget about that right now and enjoy this moment.” He answers by deepening his kiss. He doesn’t ask any questions about the appointment, but busies his tongue exploring every part of my mouth.

My body is on fire with every touch. Words cannot describe the way he makes me feel. He knows my weaknesses and pleasures. He knows everything about me.

For the rest of the afternoon, we find ourselves christening not only the kitchen bench, but the table, lounge room, and even the floor, which is a foul thought, but hey, it was a hell of an afternoon.

Chapter Thirty-One

When Flick and Rach arrive, Corban quickly takes his leave, saying Jonas will pick us up later tonight. Corban has arranged for Axel, Liam, and himself to head out for dinner while we girls primp and pamper each other.

We order Italian and they brought, like, four different wines with them. I hope they don’t plan on me having a whole bottle to myself. I don’t think I would make it out the door. We pump the nineties music through the house and lounge around, feeding our faces and drinking the sweet wine.

“So, how was it with my bitch sister today?” she asks. I wonder if she is jealous of how her sister is trying with me, but not with her. I would hate for Rach to be mad at me.

“It was surprisingly good. She was nice, which is very strange, as you would know all about.”

“She has never been shopping with me, let alone asked me.” She takes another long sip of her drink. I hear the hurt in her tone. I rub her arm letting her know I’m here.

“Don’t worry,
Rach. I still don’t trust her. There is something about her that rubs me the wrong way.”

“What’s she like?” Flick asks, curious as she stuffs another mouthful of pasta in her mouth.

Rachel jumps in before I can answer. “She is not someone I class as my sister. You girls are more sisters to me than what she has ever been.” I feel sorry for Athena and Rachel not having a good relationship. It must be hard.

“She can be very rude, like we told you,” I voice my thoughts. “I did see a different side of her today, but I didn’t like her asking about Abby.”

Rachel looks disgusted. “She has no right to ask you about her. I hope you didn’t tell her anything.”

“I only told her the basics, that’s it. I didn’t want to go into details about it.”

“Good, she is on a need to know basis,” Flick says, refilling our glasses. “Let’s get ready, girls. It’s my man’s birthday and I’m ready to have one hell of a night.” She raises her glass as we follow suit, clinking them, and laughing like crazy teenagers.

I show the girls my outfit and they absolutely love it. I can’t wait for
Corban to see me. I chuckle to myself at the thought of him trying to contain himself. Rachel does my makeup while Flick curls my hair. Well, not totally curling it, but giving it a nice wave. Then we all switch roles and do each other’s hair and makeup.

I slip my dress and heels on and walk over to my mirror. When I see the person staring back at me, I can’t believe it’s actually me. The red dress fits perfectly and the shoes look amazing. My skin looks flawless, not like usual.
Rach did a great job on my makeup, giving me dark smoky eyes, which makes the blue pop even more. I can even see a swirl of grey in my eyes, which is something new. It looks amazing.

“You girls are amazing! You should totally go into business together doing hair and makeup. I feel so good!” I run my hands over my curves in the silk dress. I feel on top of the world, nothing could bring me down.

Flick and Rach look equally glamorous. Even though we are only going to a club, it’s not every day I get to dress up this fabulous.

At ten, there is a knock on the door. I open it, revealing Jonas. His mouth falls open at the sight of us.

“Hey, Jonas!” we sing in unison, He gives us a stunning smile.

“Are you ladies ready to go?”

“Yep, just give us a minute to get our purses.” I leave the door open while Jonas waits.

We make our way to the door. As Flick and Rachel walk past Jonas, looking him up and down, they decide to plant a kiss on each of his cheeks. He goes a light shade of pink and I shake my head, laughing at them. Yeah, the wine has gotten to them.

“Leave him alone, you pair. Look, he now has red lipstick on him from you both…hmm…” I think for a minute and decide why not join in the fun? I lean over and peck his already pink cheek. I’m not sure how he is feeling, but he is grinning along with us. Who wouldn’t be grinning after being kissed by us beauties?

“Come on, ladies, let’s get you all to your men before I decided to kidnap you all,” he announces jokingly.

Jonas parks us right at the front door of The Phoenix. We climb out, linking arms, and strut our stuff through the front door, ignoring the dirty looks from those in the forever-long line.
What are ya gonna do? I’m dating the boss,
is what I want to yell at them, but at least I’m not that drunk.

Inside is already crowded. We hold hands with Rachel leading us through the crowd to the stairs. I swear someone gropes my butt, which causes me to jump with fright, but when I turn around to see who it was, there is no one there who is paying any attention to me. I yell at the girls to hurry up before my butt becomes another groping session for someone else.

We finally reach the stairs and as we slowly make our way up, there is a group of rowdy guys coming down. One, who is not paying much attention to his surroundings, bumps into me, knocking me off balance. I slip and put my hand out to stop myself, but I land on it funny. I hear a crack, pain shoots through my hand, and right up my arm like someone is stabbing my wrist with a heap of needles. I begin to cry from the pain. I can’t bring myself to look at my wrist. It feels wrong, so I sit on the step clutching my pained arm.

I’m not there long before I’m picked up and pulled against the chest of the man I love. I sob harder; the pain is unbelievably unbearable. It hurts to move it at all, and when I do, there’s a new lot of stabbing happening in my wrist, which runs right up my whole arm.

“It’s okay, beautiful. I have you,” he whispers to me, carrying me up the stairs where I can hear Rachel and Flick trying to get near me. Corban pulls me closer to him, and takes me straight to his office. The girls quickly follow behind us.

I hear the door shut and
Corban gently places me on the couch, the same one we nearly made love on for the very first time.

He takes my arm from me. I cry out in pain. It’s so bad I think I might be sick; I can feel it rising in my throat. I look around for something and spot the bin, quickly racing for it and just making it in time before all of my drinks and dinner make a reappearance.

“You need to take her to the hospital, Corban. She could have broken her wrist.” I hear Rachel talking while Flick holds my hair up out of the way and rubs my back, comforting me while I heave into the bin again.

I don’t hear much else as I lay down beside the bin on the floor.
Corban’s voice rings through my rattling head.

“Come on, baby. Let’s get you to the hospital.” He lifts me off the ground with care, holding me tightly to him. He rushes me out the staff entrance where Jonas is waiting.
Corban places me on the seat lying down. My wrist moves the wrong way and I let rip a piercing scream. Corban is with me in an instant. I hear Flick and Rachel arguing with Corban.

“Girls, I will ring when I know something.” He shuts them down and closes the door. “
Shh, baby, it’s okay. We will be at the hospital soon.” He runs his fingers through my hair, calming me, but the tears keep falling. It’s the last thing I remember before I black out from the pain.

“Did she hit her head?” I hear an unfamiliar voice ask.

“No, she slipped on some stairs in a club and fell on her hand after trying to stop herself from falling.”

Cold fingers wrap around my throbbing wrist. I try pulling it away from their grasp. I don’t want it touched. The pulsing heat through my arm makes my entire body feel hot and clammy.

“I need to take a look, Melodi.” She gives my arm a comforting rub. I open my eyes only to be met with Corban’s worried gaze. He looks pained and his hands are wrapped around my free hand, offering me as much support as he can. I feel like such a klutz.

“We need to get an x-ray.” She is speaking to one of the nurses attending to me while she fills out paperwork.

“Are you taking any medication?” I shake my head in response. “Are you allergic to anything?”

“No,” I croak; my mouth tastes like vomit, which makes me
wanna hurl again. I take a few deep breaths to push the feeling away. She continues to fill in the paperwork, and then looks back up at me.

“Sorry, dear, I’m sure you’re in pain, but these are all routine questions. Last one now, is there any chance you might be pregnant?”

My stomach twirls, I nod and she makes a note. “It’s possible, but nothing has been confirmed,” I say shakily.

“Okay, during the x-ray, we will place a protection vest over you, and once we get your hand sorted, we’ll order some bloods to be taken and do a pregnancy test.”

“Why do I need blood taken and a test?”

“Sometimes positives don’t show up on the test, but will show up with blood tests. When was your last period?” I tell her about my appointment with my doctor, what she said, and when I had my period. It’s been about three weeks since speaking with my doctor.

“All right, not to worry, dear. We will take care of you. Would you like your husband to come with you?” Wait…what? Husband?

“Oh, he’s not…”

Corban cuts me off. “Fiancé, not husband.” He smiles down at me. Did I hit my head as well? This is too much to take in right now. I just nod my approval.

I’m wheeled to the x-ray department by a chatty brunette who has totally ignored me, but has been talking up a storm with
Corban, who doesn’t seem to be paying her much attention, but she keeps trying for it.

I get taken in right away and they place a heavy vest over my chest and lower abdomen area. I lay my arm on the table while they quickly take a few shots. They reveal that, yes, there is a clean break in my wrist, which is the last thing I need right now. The orthopaedic surgeon comes and puts my arm in a plaster cast and I’m taken back to a room and given a pain reliever
that the nurse has informed me is safe for pregnancy. Thankfully, it doesn’t take long to kick in. It’s not long before the same nurse comes in with a small kit with vials and needles. Ugh, needles!

I must look petrified because
Corban is by my side in an instant. The brunette notices his reaction and how his eyes are for me and me alone. She finally shuts that trap of hers and gets on with her job. If she kept going, I was going to say something, and the way I’m feeling right now, it wouldn’t have been nice. She takes my blood like a vampire in silence.

“The results shouldn’t be too long.” She turns back to me, handing me a box. “If you could, please do this test as well, we would normally use different tests
, but unfortunately the nurse before me took the last one off the shelf so these are all we have for now.” My hands shaking, I take the box and make my way off the bed and to the bathroom with help from Corban.

“Are you all right, beautiful?” I nod, unable to find my voice. The hammering in my chest is loud and present.

I stand in front of the mirror, getting up the courage to just pee on a stick!
Come on, suck it up! It’s just a stick…A stick that could change your world as you know it.

I fear what
Corban and his family will think. I can just imagine what Athena will think…
Gold digger…And
what about my family?

Fear takes a tight grip on my chest as I sit and do my business that could possibly change my entire life. I finish and wait…and wait…

Is it meant to happen right away?

I fix myself up, close the lid on the toilet, and I sit back down on it. I close my eyes, silently hoping it’s a negative or this is all just some dream and I haven’t woken up yet.
Please wake up…

Slightly opening my eyes, I take a hesitant look. My entire body is shaking with anticipation.
Oh, suck it up, girl. Corban will stay by you no matter what!

I open my eyes, glance down at the stick in my hand, and am completely overwhelmed. I begin crying, not only cry, but sobbing…again.
Corban bursts through the door after hearing me. I didn’t realise I was that loud.

“What’s happened?” He kneels down in front of me while I sob, unable to speak through my tears. I don’t know what I’m feeling right now.
