“Jan!” I yelled. “I'm the fucking boss here just keep quiet and let me do my job. Georgina isn't just an employee, she is my girlfriend.” I looked back at Ted. “I want extra security around this place and maybe get one of those scanner machines. Yep, I wanted everyone checked on arrival and departure.”

“It will cost a great deal” Jan stressed.

I sat back down at my desk. She was really beginning to piss me off. I slammed my fist on the desk in annoyance. It made Jan jump and put her head down again. “I need a body guard tonight. Go and do what I pay you for.” Ted got up and left the office. Me and Jan were alone. I actually felt a little guilty treating her the way I did. I placed my hands over my face.

“It will be fine, Maxwell” Jan reassured me.

I peeked through the gap between my fingers. “Do you have a cigarette?”

She gave a little and pulled out a packet from her pocket. “I thought you would ask.”

“Thank you” I grabbed the packet of her and quickly removed the plastic wrapper. I pulled out a cigarette, placed it between my lips, located my lighter and began to puff away.

“Are we going to tell the broad?” Jan asked. “There will be questions the added expense?”

“Call a meeting and I be with you in five.” Jan nodded and left me to enjoy my cigarette. I had to call Georgina, just to make sure she was okay. I could feel my hand shaking as I reached out for the phone. All sort of terrible thoughts were going through my head. My sexy, loving and caring woman. Who would want to hurt her? This person was obviously sick in the head to even dream up something like that necklace and card. I dialled the number, it seemed to ring forever.

“Hello” she finally answered, he voice sounding like she didn't have a care in the world.

“George!” I screamed. “How long does it take for you to answer the fucking phone?”

“I didn't realize I was being timed. You sound strange, everything okay?”

Shit! I did sound strange. I coughed, I had to pretend everything was fine. Even though my anxiety was taking control of me. “Sorry” I sighed, trying to gain some normality to my voice. “Are you okay?”

“Yes” she replied a little off key.

“Good. Now, don't answer the door to anyone. If you need to go out wait till I get back. I shouldn't be no longer than an hour.”

“What's with all the orders?” She snapped.

“Now is not a good time to start acting all inquisitive with me, Miss Dawson. Just do as I say... Please!” I pleaded.

“Okay... Okay!” She yelled down the phone, I could tell by her voice she was rolling her eyes. I didn't like telling her what to do and most of the time she ignored me anyway. This time there was a lot more at state. Her life which was utterly under treat.

“Good” I gave a breath of relief. “I love you.”

“Love you too” she said softly.

I put the phone down, now it was time to face my broad. When I find out who was behind all of this I was going to kick the shit out of them. No one threaten the people I loved and got away with it. Half of me prayed that this was just someone's idea of a sick joke but the other half of me knew this was just the of a situation that I had no control over. I didn't like being out of control and that scared me most.

I placed the phone back down. He really did sound weird. I guess something at work had stressed him out. What was with all the orders? I made my way into the bedroom and looked up at my new dress hanging up against the wardrobe. Another Jenny Peckham to add to the ever growing collection. My man certainly had good taste. I sat down on my bed and carried on reading my magazine. I had never been one for gossip mags but Maxwell had assured me it was good for work and now I had become addicted. I began to think about the possibilities of tonight. He still wouldn't tell me what he had planned. Dinner? Dancing? I really didn't care as long as he was constantly by my side.

I just had this nagging feeling something was wrong? It was his tone. I had never heard him like before. Maybe I was just being paranoid. No! I could hear the anxiety taking over his voice. My Mr Golden Rule was normally so controlled. I had seen him cry once- when I told him about me marrying Blake. That was such a beautiful sight. My mind was consumed with thoughts of Maxwell and I gave a little smile. This was a hundred times better than what I had with Blake. Maxwell always had a game or surprise up his sleeve. Everyday I fell in love with him just a little bit more.

I had an idea.

I raced over to the wardrobe and opened the door my dress wasn't hanging on. I was looking for his ties, I needed at least four.

I began to rummage around and my eyes focused on a box. It was pink! Maxwell didn't own anything pink. I wanted to buy him a pink t-shirt in Spain but he said it would insult his sexuality. I loved it when he acted all macho. Maxwell was right I was too inquisitive for my own good. I had to find out what was in this box. I opened it up and pulled out a big pile of photos.

There must have been hundreds all of him with Debbie. They must have been pre Olivia. I could feel my heart in my throat. I began to look through them. Each one of them made me feel worse. Pictures of the two of  them hugging, kissing and even pictures of them naked. I couldn't look any longer and threw them back into the box. I felt sick, why had he kept them? I binned all my photos of Blake the minute we got back from Spain. Did he ever look at them? I wanted to cry. Did he secretly still love her and that’s why he kept them as memorabilia. I looked down at my engagement ring and then unspoken questioned raced to my mind.

Had he ever been engaged to her?

I had never asked, should I?

Should I tell him I found the photos?

Although, he may get the wrong idea and think I was checking up on him. Why did I look? I could be so stupid sometimes.

I felt awkward, every time I closed my eyes all I could see was Maxwell and Debbie together and looking in love. I looked around the room, it was full of that advertisement picture of me and Riley. I didn't want to be here and I felt embarrassed that everyone could see me in my underwear. To top it all Maxwell was acting weird around me. Every five minutes checking to see if I was all right.

“Hey” Maxwell said coming up behind me. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me into him. “You okay?”

I rolled my eyes and took a large gulp of my wine. How many times was he going to ask that? “Fine” I huffed again.

“You look mighty fine in that photo” he whispered in my ear. I looked up at one of the pictures and felt even more sick.

I spun round to face him with speed. My eyes immediately diverted to that mouth. I loved him so much. Especially when he was wearing that navy suit.

Why was I making such a big deal out of this?

We were both looking at a photo of me with another bloke. But then me and Riley didn't know each other or share a child together. I looked down at my glass, maybe one question wouldn't hurt.

“Were you and Debbie ever engaged?”

Shock filled his face. “No!”

“Even after you had Olivia?”

“I never thought of her like that. She was never good enough to be my wife. “He tilted his head to the side and his blue eyes burned into me. “Why are you asking?”

“Curious” I lied, I went to hug him but he moved out of my reach.

“Your hiding something” he mumbled.  I looked down at my feet. How could he read me so well? I guess it wouldn't hurt to tell him now he had assured me about Debbie.

“I found them” his face went blank, there was no reaction. “The photos of you and Debbie!”

“Oh” he folded his arms and gave me that look. “I actually forgot all about them.”

“You did?” I smiled with surprise.

He nodded in his usual calm and controlled Mr Golden Rule way. “You want me to burn them?”

“Burning is a little drastic” I smiled up at him.

Finally he wrapped his arms around me and hugged me hard. I rested my head on his chest and enjoyed being close to him. He inhaled and gave out a little sigh.

“Miss Dawson, what are you doing to me?”

All of a sudden it felt like we were the only two people in the room. The happy feeling finally came back to me. I was so glad I was the only woman in the world good enough to be Mrs Thomas. I really couldn't wait to be his wife. I wanted to make him happy and share the rest of my life with him.

CHAPTER 10

I watched as my Miss Dawson enjoyed her lime light. Everyone was giving her compliments and she was actually liking being centre of attention. I watched very closely everyone who went up to speak to her. Maybe I was overreacting a little but I couldn't bare to take my eyes off her. I looked over at the body guard and he was still where I told him to be. A little relief flooded over me.

“Well,” said a voice. “I never thought I would see you going with one of your clients!”

For the first time in hours my eye moved away from Georgina. I frowned when I saw who was talking to me. What the fuck was she doing here? She looked a big disgusting mess in what ever it was she was trying to wear. I cringed at the thought that I once went with THAT!!! Those photos definitely needed to be burned for the sake of mankind.

“Where's Olivia?” I snapped.

“With your parents.”

“Glad they come in handy for you.” My eyes went back on to Georgina, she was in deep conversation with Riley.

“She's not going to vanish” Debbie spat in a bitchy tone.

I rolled my eyes, was she still here? “What are you doing here, Debbie? You were not  invited!” I snarled, ignoring her comment. Although she was right Georgina wouldn't vanish. I wanted Debbie to vanish off the face of the earth. I know she is the Mother of my child but the hatred I felt for her was unbelievable. Why did she even come back?

“A friend set me up on a blind date”

I raised an eyebrow, made a lot of sense. “Well I guess no one would volunteer asking you out!” I laughed at my own joke.

“Why do you hate me?” Debbie hissed.

“You told my future wife to leave me!” I hissed back. Her eyes opened in shock and a slight smile came to my lips. “Didn't you know? Me and Georgina are getting married” I said with pride.

Her face turned to stone. “What has she got that I haven't?”

“You want the short or long version?”

“Maxwell!” She yelled. “Olivia deserves a family. She needs all three of us to be together. Are you really going to pick that air-headed gold digging whore over me?”
