It didn
’t take long to reach the hospital, the rather large tip I gave the driver to haul ass probably had something to do with that, but what I wasn’t expecting was the parking lot full of fans, holding up candles. I was amazed for a moment before I jumped out of the car, John was waiting for me

‘Take me to them.’

‘I’ve told them who you are and that you’ve arrived, the doctors are already waiting for you.’

‘Thanks man, I don’t know….I just want to see my girls.’

‘I know lets go.’ It took a few minutes before I walked into Lily’s room first, where I was assured she was fine, just cuts and bruises, they were keeping her in for observation. My princess was asleep, so mom and dad said they’d stay with her so she wasn’t alone. If nothing else all the crap that had happened over the first few months shrank into nothing with this reality. I walked out and John took me straight to Summer. Oh God my heart sank, she looked so small in the bed, monitors and IV’s trailing from her body. Her huge bump stood prominent and a steady beep sounded around the room. She looked peaceful, but she was so still. I had a few moments to take everything in, before Lys and John joined me.

‘What the hell happened? Does anybody know?’

‘She called me just before, she was scared man, said somebody was following her, I told her to call the police and drive to the station, I left as soon as I hung up and made my way there but just before arriving at the station I saw the crash, I recognised her car, and just ran toward them, nobody saw anything but the police, fire engines and ambulance were already there, so I assumed somebody called them and didn’t hang around. I’ve already talked to the police, but they wanted to talk to you.’

‘Later, I need to be with Summer’ my parents joined us and I heard my moms sniffle.

‘Sweetheart, the doctors won’t tell us anything, how is she?’

‘Mom, I don’t know. Can you do me a favour please, will you and dad stay with Lily. I don’t want her waking up scared and alone.’

‘Of course son, your sister’s nearly here. John please let us know if anything changes.’

‘I will Henry, of course.’

‘Now, let’s speak to the doc’ Dr Price walked into Summers room right at that moment.

‘Mr Stone, I’m Dr Price.’

‘Dr, how bad is she?’

‘She’s stable for now, we are checking her vitals and monitoring the baby’s heart, but if there are any changes we may need to deliver the baby in order to repair any damage she may have sustained in the accident. At this point it’s hard to see everything without causing problems for the child so delivering him may be the best way to look after them both.‘

‘Will he be ok, being delivered now I mean?’

‘Mr Stone, your son is a good weight for 28 weeks, he has a strong heart, he has a better chance if we can look after him, and then we can look after your wife.’

‘Ok…. do it. Take care of my wife and son, please.’

‘Yes sir.’

‘Hey man, we’ll just go see if your parents need anything and if Lily’s awake.’

‘Ok guys, thanks.‘ I walked over and sat next to my wife, searching for a sign that she could hear me ‘Babe, please….don’t leave me, we have so much to do together, our children need you, I need you. So please fight for me, your strong, I know you are so fight…..please.’  I couldn’t hold back my tears, and I leaned down and held onto her hand, suddenly, it was like she heard my plea, I felt her hand twitch, I looked up at her beautiful face but her eyes were still closed. I sat for a minute or so before her body literally bowed off the bed, sending alarms going off all around her, I watched in horror and screamed for help, doctors and nurses came rushing in and before I knew it, I watched them wheel my wife away, and all I could do was hope.

Chapter 24

Summer

‘Well, what did he say?’ I listened to my friends talk but I couldn’t move, even though I wanted to, just to give them a sign I was ok.

‘He’s landed and on his way, actually I think all the Stones are on their way here. He wants to see Summer and Lily, then talk to the docs himself before he makes a decision but you know Mason, he’s already prepared for whatever.’

‘I hope so, I’m glad his family are coming too, for Mase and Lily.’

‘Lys, she’s gonna be ok, she’s a fighter remember. She’s been through too much to give up now…not when she’s finally happy.’

‘I know….but I’m scared.’ My friend’s sobs were the last thing I remember before sleep took me again.

Talking, it woke me but I couldn’t open my eyes regardless of how much I tried. It was weird, I could feel pain, and I even felt the baby moving but I couldn’t make my eyes open.

‘Of course son, your sister’s nearly here. John please let us know if anything changes.’

‘I will Henry, of course.’

‘Now, lets speak to the doc.’ I heard the door open and close several times and then it opened again.

‘Yes sir.’ The door opened again then the room was quiet apart from the beeping of monitors.

‘Hey man, we’ll just go see if Lily’s awake and if your parents need anything.’

‘Ok guys, thanks.’ and with that it was just Mason and me ‘Babe, please…. don’t leave me, we have so much to do together, our children need you, I need you. So please fight for me, your strong, I know you are so fight…..please.’ His sobs broke through my consciousness and my hand twitched against his, the only sign I could give him that I would try, then before I could do anymore, a sharp pain stabbed through my body making me bow off the bed, the monitors went crazy and the alarms started ringing, I heard Mase scream for help and lots of voices before I was gone again.

Chapter 25

Summer

Ringing in my ears, I became conscious God only knows when, with ringing in my ears, again I struggled to open my eyes, so I stopped trying, the constant beeping was hurting my oversensitive ears. I could feel a warm hand holding mine, and feel a weight on my arm. I felt like shit, but numb at the same time. Strange, I couldn’t feel anything from my waist down, I couldn’t move, panic, that’s what I suddenly started to feel, the beeping started to accelerate, and the hand moved forward.

‘Baby, I’m right here, don’t worry your gonna be fine. I love you baby.’ Mason, his voice immediately soothed me. A door opened and somebody came in ‘Her heart rate jumped all of a sudden. Is she waking up?’

‘I’m not sure Mr Stone, her heart rate has settled, and everything is stable, we’ll continue to monitor her but you should really take a break, why don’t you stretch your legs and I’ll call you if there’s any change.’

‘No, I’m not going anywhere until she’s awake and I know she’s ok.’

‘Mr Stone, you should go check on your son, he’s doing well.’

‘I know, my family is with him.’

‘He’s strong like his mummy, and I think he looks like you.’

‘Thanks, he’s beautiful isn’t he? I am biased though, I think he looks just like his mom.’

‘If you need anything just buzz us.’

The door opened and closed and we were alone again. He sat back down, and held my hand again. His touch was so soothing, calming me, and hearing them talk about my baby meant that he was ok and being cared for. Thank god. Knowing he was safe gave way to a blissful feeling which lulled me back to sleep.

The next time I became aware of my surroundings, I felt warm, and uncomfortable, but my eyes started to open when I willed them to. I took in everything around me. I was in a typical hospital room, nothing special but it was clean, when I looked down, my eyes took in the most gorgeous site, Mason, sleeping with his head on my arm, and holding my hand, he looked rumpled, like he hadn
’t changed in days, and he had at least three days stubble, but he looked beautiful. I couldn’t help but stare at him and then trace the contours of his face with my fingers, it wasn’t easy, he was holding my other hand but I felt like I had been gone for weeks so I needed to touch him. It took him a few minutes to realise he wasn’t dreaming and he woke with a start, looking straight at me. His eyes looked worn out with shadows underneath them but his beautiful blue eyes shone with tears.

‘Hi.’

‘Baby, oh god, your awake, oh my god,’ he jumped up and started to kiss my face, my eyes, my cheeks, my nose and my lips. I couldn’t help but smile, my amazing husband.

‘I’ve been scared to death, oh god love I’m so happy your awake. Oh I’m sorry I need to get someone.’

‘No…. not yet, I just want to look at you, please.’

‘Anything love, how do you feel? I know it’s a stupid question but….you’ve been out for days, I was worried.’

‘I’m sorry….I’m…do they know what happened?’

‘Don’t say sorry, it’s not your fault. The police have been in a few times, they’ve spoken to John, but they don’t have any leads yet. They’ve been waiting for you to wake up. I should never have left you….I didn’t know what to do when Lys called, I had just met my parents for lunch when she called, they came home with me, and Mel followed a couple of hours later.’

‘I know….I heard you all, I just couldn’t open my eyes. I tried but nothing worked, so I listened, thank you for calming me, I woke up scared and worried about the baby. Is he….ok?’

‘You heard us, wow I had no idea. He’s gorgeous, like you. They have him in an incubator because he was so early but he’s perfect. My family are with him, John and Lys are with Lily, but she’s fine, ready to go home. I just insisted she stay here until you woke up. Can I call someone now, I really want everyone to know you’re awake.’

‘Everybody is here?’

‘Of course, but I also need to address the press.’

‘What, why?’

‘The press had the story before I knew what happened so the hospital grounds were being overrun with fans, they were holding a vigil to make sure you were ok, I had to thank them and urge them to leave before it got more serious. I’ll contact my team. They can confirm your condition and thank them for their prayers and wishes.’

‘Amazing…people still surprise me, before you call the doctor, come here.’

‘Are you ok, what do you need?’

‘You baby…. I just want you, just for a minute, please.’

‘Baby, you don’t need to worry you have me.’ He kissed me and made me feel loved before moving away to call the nurse. A rush of nurses came into my room, checking me all over before calling the doctor.

‘You gave your hubbie a scare, he hasn’t left your side.’
