She was already shaking her head, “No, that’s okay.  I’m gonna go over early so I’ll just see you there at 9.”

He nodded, studying her.  “Do you have plans tomorrow night?”

“I may.  I’m not sure.  We’ll talk tomorrow.”

“O-kay.  I guess that’s my cue,” he murmured, walking toward the door to get his bag.  She followed him, stuck in the dichotomy of being the world’s biggest bitch and wanting to cling to him at the same time.

But not to worry, Em.  You don’t fall apart, right?  You’re strong.  Not needy, like other women.  Always in control.

He turned when he got to the door and before picking up his bag he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into him, burying his face into her neck.

“Thanks for tonight,” he breathed, kissing her neck.

“Just call me the booty call.  Your good time girl,” she joked.

He leaned back and looked at her.  He wasn’t smiling.  “I don’t mean just the sex.  I mean the workout, the dinner, the talking.  All of it.  It was nice.”

She nodded.  She wasn’t sure she could speak.  Could one even speak when they felt like they were choking?

He kissed her softly then stepped back.  “See ya in the morning, Em.”

She nodded again and gave him an ‘mm hmm’.  He tweaked her nose then left.

She closed the door and leaned into it, grinding her forehead back and forth.  She swallowed over and over with the wash of emotion assaulting her, blinking furiously at the tears that were so close to the surface.

They’d never made it to her bedroom.

She stepped back and clenched her teeth.  Then she shook out her arms, bounced on her toes.  She would figure this out.

She would.

Chapter 11

Emily stood in a classroom at the Academy the next morning, analyzing the night before while waiting for everyone to arrive.  After Mike had left, she worked on her preparations for this morning.

Then she cleaned.

Then she worked out again.

Then she did some thinking and came to the decision that if she could just keep her emotions in check, she would be able to keep this thing going with Mike.  That’s all she had to do.

While her mind was wandering, she heard someone come in and she turned.

“Hey, Em,” Jonathan said while walking over.

“Hey, you.”  She leaned up and gave him a kiss.

“You ready for today?”

“Absolutely.  Excited to have it finally start.”

“We’re all really excited.  Nancy Demming told the faculty about it at the first staff meeting this week.  Everyone was talking about it.”

“Nice. I’ll have to thank her,” she said with a smile, making a mental note to drop a line to the principal.

“I guess this is the right place,” Jeremy said as he walked in with a smile and Luke close behind, both of them casually but stylishly dressed in Bermuda shorts and button down shirts.

“Hey guys.  Come on in.”  She greeted them both with friendly hugs, then continued talking.  “We just need Mike and Drew then all of you guys are here.  We’ll be starting with Rene, the guidance counselor, and Maurice, the School Resource officer first, but you still have some time so there are bagels and coffee back there if you want some,” she said, directing their attention to the back of the classroom.

“Sweet,” Jeremy said, leading the group of men to the food.

Drew arrived next and Emily approached him with a smile.  “I was hoping you’d make it this morning,” she teased.  “I guess she didn’t keep you out too late.”

“Actually, she didn’t keep me out at all,” he drawled then cleared his throat.

Emily’s smile dropped.  “Whattaya mean?”

“I mean,” he dropped his voice, “she canceled.”  Then he shrugged.

“She canceled?” Emily asked in surprise.  “What did she say?”

“She wasn’t feeling well, apparently.  Don’t worry about it, Em.  Maybe she really was sick.  I asked if she needed anything and she said no.  Either way, it’s not the first time I’ve been stood up and it won’t be the last,” he said dryly.  “Don’t push her on this, okay?  Maybe she’s just not ready to date after the divorce.”

She tried not to sigh and just nodded, keeping silent, but she couldn’t wait to call Tiffany after the training seminar.

“Okay.  Well, there are bagels if that helps,” she gave him a lopsided grin.

“Thanks,” he said with a sigh and walked back to fill up a plate.

She heard laughter by the door and saw Mike walk in with Rene and Maurice.  Damn, if he didn’t look gorgeous.

And she had chosen not to wear panties today, to help keep her focused on the sex and not the emotion.  What the hell had she been thinking?

She said a general hello to all of them and walked over to Rene and Maurice to finalize last minute details.  Then she stepped back to allow some time for everyone to meet and talk to each other.

While they were occupied with introductions, she heard behind her, “Hi, GC.”

Rather than turn to him, she only glanced back, but it was enough for her to appreciate him looking all sexy in his standard jeans, combat boots and t-shirt with
NYPD’s Finest
on it.  His half grin made her heart speed up, but what sped it up even more was the fact that he stepped closer and whispered in her ear.

“I could smell you on me all night.  Break whatever plans you have tonight. I wanna see you.”

Well.  That was that.  He leaned back and went over to say hi to all of the guys and to grab some food.

She let go of a little sigh, but kept it together.  Straightening her casual green sundress and her cropped jean jacket, she cleared her throat and sat on the top of the teacher’s desk at the front, crossing her legs.

Once everyone was settled and the training began, she thanked them all for their time then gave her spiel followed by Rene and Maurice.  After they discussed confidentiality, the nuts and bolts of it were discussed.  Rene explained how the instructors would cycle through classrooms.  There would be three classes each of 20-25 boys that would meet every Friday during the last period of the day with two of the men per class.  Maurice would complete the sixth spot and they would team teach and instruct the classes of boys.  They’d been coupled up so that Jeremy and Maurice were together, Luke and Drew were together, and Jonathan and Mike were together.

Then Rene took some time to mention a couple of boys who they wanted to watch more carefully, either boys who needed attitude adjustments, or parents who put up red flags.

Because the school drew affluent families, many of the parents had extremely high expectations.  One father in particular was one they were keeping an eye on.  His name was Vincent Strover and he was a doctor, as well as a stepfather to one of their junior boys, Kevin Nolan.  He was overly strict when it came to grades even though Kevin was an excellent student. Rene shared a time when Vincent very quietly but expertly manipulated Kevin practically into tears by being extremely condescending to him in front of her when they were having a parent/student meeting.  She remembered wondering where his mom had been, but when she’d asked Vincent, he’d simply said she hadn’t been feeling well.  When she’d spoke with him about other approaches that might work with Kevin, the man had explained he knew how to manage his household and didn’t need her guidance.  Thank you very much.

While talking about him, Drew chimed in and said he knew of him since he was a doctor at the same hospital where Drew happened to practice.  He was a “controlling asshole,” said Drew.
“He has a patronizing tone with everyone he speaks to.  Bit of a God complex.”

“Okay,” Rene sighed.  “I just think Kevin may need some building up, so whoever gets him, just be aware.”

The two hours flew by and when 11am finally arrived, everyone agreed upon the next Saturday for their continued training. The guys were talking about getting an impromptu basketball game together then grabbing lunch, so Emily quickly gathered her things.

She made her way to the door and waved a goodbye and a thanks to everyone before ducking out.

“Hey!” Mike was yelling from the doorway by the time she’d made it to the hall.  “Wait up.”  He turned back to the guys and said, “I’ll meet ya at the park in half an hour.”  Then he stalked toward her with that predatory gleam in his eye.

She gave him an exaggerated eye roll.

“Why do I get the distinct impression you’re trying to make an escape?”

“I have no idea.  An escape would imply that I’m feeling trapped and out of control.  Which I’m not,” she said confidently.

He licked his lips.  “You looked fuckin’ hot up there.  I almost started singing
I’m Hot for Teacher
.”

“Dork.  And I’m not a teacher.”  She began walking.

“You know what I think?” he said as they walked.

“Nope,” she said with a smile, ignoring him and continuing down the hall.  He kept up with her easily, considering his long stride.

“I think you’re runnin’.”

She glared up at him.  “I believe this is walking.  And what on earth would I be running from?”

“From me.”

“You’re so frickin’ full of yourself, you know that?”  She was shaking her head, avoiding his eyes.

“I think you’re havin’ the time of your life with me and you’re not sure what to make of it.”

“Uh, huh.”

“And I think I’m turning out to be a pleasant surprise.”

He was, dammit.  The jerk.  And just then
she
wanted to be a pleasant surprise.  She was feeling daring, reckless, and horny.

She sighed and looked up at him coyly and continued walking, turning a corner in the hallway.  “And do you know what I think, Detective?”

“What’s that?” he said with a smirk.

She grabbed his hand and dragged him into the girls’ room. The lights were off but there was a window at the top of the wall letting in some of the sun from outside casting the room into shadows.

“I think you talk too much,” she said then she dropped her bags and hopped onto him wrapping her legs around his waist.

He grabbed for her at the same time, latching his mouth to hers and swallowing the moans coming from the depths of both of them.  He was chuckling when he pulled away to rest his lips on hers.

“Are we gonna fuck in the bathroom?  Please tell me you’re gonna have your way with me in the girls’ room, Em,” he breathed, plucking at her lips while still smiling, massaging her ass through her dress.  “How did you know this was a fantasy of mine in high school?”

“Why does that not surprise me, and you’re still talking,” she groaned, grinding into him and using her leg muscles to pump herself along his jeans, feeling the ridge of his hard on.  “And I’m not wearing any underwear
so get on with it.”

Just don’t say his name, Em.

It was as if time stopped.  He looked at her in amazement.  “Don’t you dare joke with me, Emily.”

“Why don’t you verify the evidence,” she whispered in his ear then bit down on his earlobe.

His hands went from the outside of her sundress to underneath quickly only to discover that she hadn’t been lying.

“Dear sweet Lord,” he said.  “I think I just came in my pants.”

She laughed, feeling so naughty and so good.
Dichotomy is my middle name
.

“What are you gonna do about this, Detective?” she whispered in his ear as he dipped his finger into her hot wetness from behind her and began spreading it around.

“I’m gonna fuck you on this counter here and watch it all in the mirror,” he said setting her down on the counter and undoing his pants all while claiming her mouth in a feverish kiss.  “Don’t scream.  I don’t want Mo charging in here and shootin’ me.  God, you should see this,” he moaned looking over her head into the vanity mirror over the counter.  He held her so she just hung off the edge.  “Your hair spilling down your back,” he began then pushed inside her all the way to the hilt.  She hissed through clenched teeth and leaned back on her hands, using them to help pull him in deeper.

Don’t say his name, Emily.

“Fuck, you feel incredible, Em.  Do you know that?” he breathed, holding her hips while he moved in and out.  “That’s it.  Use those killer legs of yours and grind into me.  Come on,” he growled.

She let out a low but quiet breath of air.  He was the one who felt incredible.  Every inch of him.  “Go faster.  Go faster.”

He let out a groan.  “You need to see this,” he said as he pulled out of her, put her on her high heeled feet and turned her to face the mirror.  “Watch.  I want you to watch your eyes cloud over when you come.  It’s gorgeous.”

He lifted her dress up to uncover her ass then lifted her slightly so she was leaning on the deep counter with his right arm under her hips to protect her from the edge.  He bent his legs so he could reach her opening then thrust up into her forcing her upward.

She let out a keening sound.

Don’t say his name!
