Thirty minutes Later

I could
still
smell my own vomit when we reached some lady’s house Kali called Bernie. When the door opened some older black chick wearing a gold wig, red lipstick and a white slip came out. She looked a little washed out. A cigarette dangled in the corner of her mouth and she held tightly onto a glass with brown liquor inside of it. The thing was, to be older she was still kind of pretty. Just looked as if she had a hard life.

“Keefer,” she said throwing her arms around his neck, not dropping an ounce of alcohol. Then she tried to dig in his pockets. “You got something for me?”

Who the fuck was Keefer and why was he making her call him that? “What I tell you about going in my pockets?” He paused. “I don’t know where you picked up that fucked up ass habit but you better lose it.”
“Sorry.” She said softly. “My last beau never came to my door without a gift.”
“Well he ain’t around no more now is he?”
She frowned a little and said, “Come in.” We both walked into the house. On to the next thing she said, “And who’s this handsome young man right here?”
“It’s my daughter. Madjesty.”
“Mad.” I corrected him.
“This fine young thing is a bitch?” Bernie said. “Damn, I know men who would pay a lot for you.” She paused. “So what’s up, honey. You fucking?” She smiled slyly easing in my direction.
“She ain’t here for all that.” Kali interrupted. “She here with me.”
“You got it, you got it,” Bernie said. “I don’t want no trouble.”
Once inside the house I couldn’t get over how neat her crib was. Based on how nasty she looked I would’ve thought her spot would’ve been nasty too. The white carpet didn’t have a spot on it and the tan leather furniture looked brand new.
“Bernie, you got some clothes she can wear. She had a situation earlier.”
“I ain’t wearing no bitch clothes.” I told him.
“You gonna wear what the fuck I tell you to wear.” Kali said looking at me seriously. “Now go get her some of your shit!”
“Fuck that shit! I ain’t wearing no female clothes.”
“Bernie, give me a second with my kid.”
“You got it, baby. Uh, when you done, I want to go see them peoples. I need a fix.”
He looked at her and said, “Whatever.” He threw her something in a tiny cellophane bag. She smiled. “I’ma go get good for you now.” She disappeared into a room.
“You almost had me killed.” I said when she left. “And you held a fucking gun to my head for about an hour! What type shit is that?”
He was quiet for a minute before he said, “I think you really my kid, the only thing is, you cried earlier, and I better never see you do that shit again.”
“I was crying because I was scared.”
“I don’t give a fuck! I better never see you crying again.” He paused. “Fuck was you scared for anyway? You act all hard and shit and then when the time comes to show and prove, you tense up. Relax or take that fucking cap off and put on a pair of high heel shoes.” He paused. “Like I said, I better never see you cry again while you call yourself my kid.”
I didn’t feel like arguing so I said, “I wanna go home. Can I leave, or are you still holding me hostage?”
“You can leave. I want you to take the truck and come back for me tomorrow.” He said.
“I’m not trying to get involved in this shit.” I told him pacing the floor. “You beefing with my sister’s father.”
“What’s your cell phone number?” he asked ignoring me.
“What?”
“I know you got a cell so what’s the number?”
“When I give it to you can I get the fuck out of here?”
“Yeah, but like I said, I expect you back here tomorrow. I’ma call you when I want you to come get me. I don’t give a fuck where you are or what you doing, when I hit you you better drop everything and come scoop me. I’m not the type nigga you want on your back.” After I gave him my number I moved for the door and my phone rang. “Answer the phone.”
“Why answer the phone? You right there.”
“I wanna make sure the number is right.”
I took the phone out of my pocket and said, “Hello?”
He hung up. “Good, I’ll see you tomorrow. You on call so don’t get locked up and don’t forget what I said.” He paused again. “Take your time on them roads. You still a rookie driver. Oh and keep your friends and your sister out my fucking business. Don’t tell ‘em nothing about this shit.”
“Whatever.” I just wanted to get as far away from him as possible.
“And another thing. Your shoes too tight. Go a size up.”
“What?”
“You wearing the wrong size shoes.” He said walking back toward the house. “I’ll see you later.”
When I got in the truck, I thought about what he said. I didn’t even know he noticed my boots. When you have to steal your clothes it’s sometimes hard to be picky and I didn’t know my feet had grown.
I was just about to pull out when my cell phone started ringing again. Was he fucking with me? When I went for my phone I noticed it was Glitter’s cell ringing instead. I forgot I took it from her because everything moved so fast. It was a voice message from the nigga Mark. Nook’s brother.
“What the fuck?”
I hit the button to listen.
‘Glitter…hit me so we can rap. I can’t wait to fuck that pussy again. You got extra wet last night. Hit a nigga up. Oh, and you bet not be fucking with that bitch again. My brother keeping an eye on you.’
Click.
If this bitch thought she was gonna play games with me she had another thing coming. That goes for this nigga, too!
