Chapter Two

Brionna hadn't meant to be late. She’d set her alarm, but she’d been so happy with the text from Declan that she hadn't remembered to turn up her phone volume. By the time Bri jumped out of her sleep, she was already late for work.

She let out a steady stream of curses as she ran into the bathroom. Her shower was cut to three minutes. There was no time for makeup either as she threw on her scrubs and raced to her car. She tossed her bag inside before she slipped inside, instantly burning her hands on the steering wheel.

“This is not my morning,” she mumbled as she started the car and headed to work, speeding just enough so that she wouldn’t catch the eye of a police officer.

By the time she met up with the other interns, a blonde woman was talking to them. Brionna immediately knew who it was. The woman was thin in a way that said she worked out. Her tiny waist was accentuated by nicely curved hips. Her hair was almost a platinum blonde that kept falling over one eye before she brushed it away. Bri could see what Mack meant.

“And who are you?” The woman asked, focusing in on her.

“Brionna.”

Wendy raised an eyebrow. “Do you have a last name, Brionna?”

Brionna had to work very hard to keep her smart comments to herself. “Yes. I’m Brionna Jackson.”

“Well, it’s nice of you to finally join us Ms. Jackson, but you’re dismissed.”

“Meaning?”

“It means that you were late, therefore you won’t be completing rounds with us today. Why don’t you go and get me a coffee?”

Bri laughed before she could stop herself. “Not going to happen.”

“Fine. Let’s go see Mr. Longston.”

“Let’s do it,” Bri said with a raised eyebrow.

As they walked away, she heard the other interns mumbling. She knew that she should have acted more threatened, but taking her to see the guy that she regularly slept with wasn’t exactly scary. Wendy knocked on Declan’s door. When they stepped inside, he was staring at his computer, as usual. He took off his glasses when they walked in.

“Is there a problem?” He asked.

“Yes. One of your interns was late and is disrespectful. I think you need to have a serious talk with her about her future in this program.”

“Of course,” Declan said, his face serious. “I’ll talk to her.”

Wendy nodded. “I’m heading back to do rounds. Will you be joining me afterwards?”

“Maybe. I had a new case come in. It’s really important that I start on it as soon as possible.”

Wendy nodded once more before she walked out of the door. Before she left, she threw a derisive glance at Brionna. The woman wanted to laugh, but she knew that wouldn’t go over well with Declan. She settled in what had become her usual chair in front of Declan’s desk as they listened to the sound of Wendy’s heels retreat down the hallway. When she was gone, Declan laced his fingers beneath his chin and stared at her.

“Getting in trouble already?”

“She was being a bitch.”

“Were you late?” Declan asked.

“That’s besides the point,” Brionna mumbled as she glanced away.

Bri heard him approaching before she saw him. When she looked up, he was leaning over her. He hooked a finger under her chin, tilted her face up towards his. She felt the familiar speeding of her heart and dampening of her panties.

“Are you getting jealous?” Declan asked with a smirk.

Brionna laughed. “Not even a little.”

The woman tried to rise out of her chair, but Declan pushed her back down. She scowled, but Declan only smiled wider. There was a small twitch on the corner of his mouth that said he was trying to refrain from laughing.

“I still have to punish you,” he said simply.

“That doesn’t seem fair.”

“Were you late?”

“Maybe,” she mumbled, trying to look away from him again with no success.

“Lock the door.”

It was a simple command, three little words. Somehow they still had the same old tremendous impact on Brionna. Declan let her get out of the chair. She took her time, walking across the carpeted floor, turning the heavy lock. When it was done, she walked back. Anticipation flitted in her stomach.

“Pull down your pants.”

Brionna’s pussy twitched excitedly. He took a seat in her black chair, leaned back as he waited for her to do what she was told. Bri gazed back at him nervously, her fingers pulling at the string that tightened her scrub pants.

“Are you sure you want to do this at work?” She managed to get out in a choked voice.

“More than sure. Now, hurry up. The longer it takes you to do this, the more people are going to be suspicious.”

Brionna swallowed hard. He was right, but even his words she knew had more importance behind them. Declan liked the idea of embarrassing her and she loved it too. She undid the scrubs, pushed them down to her ankles along with the lacy, baby blue panties underneath. Without warning, Declan snatched her forward, pulling her over his lap.

Brionna gasped. He’d only spanked her like this one time before. She rested her fingers in the carpet, spread her legs open wide for him. Bri could just hear the moan escape his lips.

“Push your ass up into the air. Don’t fall.”

Brionna did as she was told. He ran a hand over her skin, the warmth of his skin warming up hers. She yelped as he slapped her ass hard. Declan placed a hand over her mouth.

“Keep quiet.”

Brionna nodded quickly. He lifted his hand slowly before he returned his attention to her throbbing ass. She tensed until he’d rubbed his hand over her skin a few times. As soon as she’d started to relax, thwack! She kept her mouth closed, only a small whimper escaping her lips.

Declan took his time spanking her. She knew that he was dragging it out, timing it to the point when rounds would be over and she’d have to join the others, red assed and embarrassed. That was the real punishment. He delivered one last blow to her body before he rubbed it gently.

“Rounds should be over. Get back to work,” he said cheerfully.

Brionna tugged up her pants. After she’d tied them, he pulled her back to him. Declan placed a passionate kiss on her mouth, one that threatened to make her melt before he pulled back.

“No more misbehavin,” he said softly. “Okay?”

“Okay.”

“What do you say?” He asked, pulling her back.

“Yes sir. Thank you, sir.”

“Good girl,” he mumbled against her ear as he saw her out.

Brionna sighed. Those two words always had that effect on her. No matter what she had to endure through his training, hearing ‘good girl’ made it all worth it. She touched her lips  briefly with the tips of her fingers.

“Did you get in trouble?” Mack asked when she sat next to him in the computer lab.

She could almost feel herself blushing. “Kind of. I’m being watched, very closely.”

That part at least wasn’t a lie. She knew that if she acted up again, Declan would have no problem punishing her again. She knew that what he’d done before was mild compared to what he could do. The man had a way of getting inside of her head and using it against her.

Declan walked in with Wendy. They were deep in conversation as they walked around to ask the interns about their assigned charts. Brionna dreaded when they would come over to her station. Her work was exemplary, but she had the very distinct feeling that Wendy would find
something
wrong.

“Ms. Jackson,” Declan said, inclining his head towards her.

“Yes?” She asked politely.

“Do you mind showing Wendy your files?”

“Of course.”

Brionna kept the grin off of her face. Even though Declan’s face was stony, she could see the corner of his mouth twitch when he called her Ms. Jackson. Sometimes she wished that she could have his self control.

Wendy gazed over her shoulder. As Brionna had suspected, every little move that she’d made  in the last two months, Wendy scrutinized. Why did she prescribe this? Why did she suggest that? Brionna found herself answering each question with her teeth clenched tightly together. It was as if she was meeting Declan again for the first time when he’d tried to assess her work, only to be impressed. Wendy didn’t seem to be, however.

“Not bad, but I’d study more. If I were you.”

When she walked away with Declan, Brionna flipped her off. Mack smacked her hand down, making the woman turn back around. Bri smiled, rolled her eyes when she left the room.

“What is wrong with you?” Mack asked.

“Are you kidding me? What’s wrong with her! She hates me for no reason.”

Mack shrugged. “Declan was the same way.”

“No, Declan actually realized when I was right. She’s just giving me a hard time.”

“It’s not personal,” Mack said, laying a hand on her shoulder, “she’s kind of vicious to everyone.”

“That makes me feel immensely better,” Brionna mumbled before returning to her work.

If there was one thing she hated, it was being called wrong. She was smart, top of her class out of Morehouse School of Medicine. Now, here was this woman pretending that she didn’t know what she was talking about. Bri seethed. After all, she was the one that had caught a rare disease in a girl when she’d first arrived. She was smart, she was capable.

“If you squeeze that mouse any harder, you’re going to break it.”

Brionna let go of the mouse. She wasn’t sure why she was letting Wendy get to her, but the woman just bugged her. Outside of the lab, Declan stood talking to the woman, his hands buried inside of his white coat. She reached out, grabbed his arm and gave it a squeeze.

If Bri was mad before, she was pissed at that moment. Declan seemed to be laughing. She quickly averted her eyes as Mack glanced over at her. She didn’t want him to know what was going on either.

Once lab was over, they left to grab something to eat. Brionna could barely eat. She was too pissed off about Declan. On the one hand, she knew that he would never hurt her, but she couldn’t stop the little voice in the back  of her head that wanted to tell Wendy to get lost.

“Are you okay?” Mack asked.

Bri nodded quickly. “I’m fine. It’s just been a very long and annoying morning,” she said. She wanted to add, ‘minus the spanking. That was amazing.’

Mack nodded. “It’ll get better. We all have these days, Jackson.”

“I suppose that’s true,” she said stabbing a fork into her salad.

Still, she couldn’t help but to glance a couple of tables over. Wendy was sitting beside Declan, a finger twirling a piece of her hair. Declan was explaining something to her, his hands moving animatedly. The woman was nodding eagerly.

“I think I’m done eating,” Bri said, picking up her tray.

She dumped the remainder of her food before she headed back to the lab. Of course, she couldn’t really tell what was going on between them, but Wendy’s body language made things pretty clear. The only way that she would feel reassured would be when she talked to Declan. Reaching into her back pocket, she pulled out her phone and texted him. Since he was downstairs, she expected to get an immediate text back. When he didn’t, she shoved her phone away before she turned to her work.
