Dose of Him

Chapter One

The Phoenix heat only climbed in July. Brionna, who wasn’t used to it, was melting. She lay stretched out on her bed, her long, ebony legs entwined in the sheets. Declan had just shifted from the bed moments before, she could hear him in the kitchen pouring himself a glass of water. When he walked back in, she couldn’t help but to stare.

Declan was hotter than July in Phoenix. He was tall, taller than her even at her 5’9. He had slightly tanned skin, wavy black hair that held a few strands of grey and deep, grey eyes. Bri knew that he could command and applaud with those eyes. The thought that he could do the same with his hands made her grin.

“What are you smiling about?” He asked as he sat beside her on the bed and handed her his glass of water.

Brionna took a refreshing sip before she answered. “Oh, I was just looking at you,” she said, her eyes roaming up and down his well toned body.

Declan laughed. “Really? And what were you thinking?”

“I was thinking that you look good...for your age.”

Declan raised an eyebrow at her. Brionna knew that she was in trouble. The woman tried to slide from the bed as his hand wrapped around her wrist and he pulled her back. Declan straddled her, his hard body drawing her eyes as she laid on the bed, subdued.

“Now, what was that I heard? You want to go again?”

Brionna felt her heart skip a beat. She hadn’t been around Declan long, but he seemed to have an understanding of her that most women would kill for. He could tell her mood simply by looking at her, he could comfort her with a touch. Not to say that he was perfect, he was far from it. Declan had a temper, was often moody and expected the absolute best out of his interns. The man was a genius of neurological medicine and he only let the best people work under him.

For Bri, that took on more than one meaning. She trembled as he dragged his fingers along her inner thigh, the nails scratching over her smooth, brown skin sending shockwaves through her body. Declan knew how to touch her. He’d seen it in her eyes the very first time she walked through the door. The need, the desire.

Brionna hadn’t given herself to a man in a very long time, but with Declan it was almost like breathing. She could drop to her knees on his command, bend over when she was told, be quiet when he blindfolded her eyes. All because she trusted him. He was smart, sincere and he knew what he wanted. At his hands, she’d toed the boundaries between pain and pleasure and things just kept getting better.

“Say sorry,” he demanded.

Declan’s hand hovered above her clit. He  circled left, then right, but it wouldn’t touch it. She was wiggling, whining as she tried to press herself against his hand. With a smirk on his face, he simply watched her. Bri had gotten used to seeing just how far she could push him before his other side would kick in, his dominant side. The one that had appeared now, ready and waiting to tease her for however long it took.

Declan’s phone rang on the nightstand. As he went to answer it, he pushed her back onto the mattress. His left hand held her there as he answered his phone. She looked at him with round eyes. When he gazed over at her, she mouthed the words ‘not fair’ with a scowl on her face.

“Sure. I can come in. Give me half an hour. I’ll talk to you soon.”

“You have to leave?” Brionna asked as he hung up.

“For a little while. I have to meet the new Andrew. First, I have to do this…”

Brionna lost her train of thought as his mouth dove between her thighs. Her fingers tangled into his hair. She moaned, her toes curling as she closed her eyes to enjoy the moment.

“Who’s your new Andrew?” Brionna asked as she stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around herself.

“I never met her. I just know she’s taking Andrew’s place.”

Brionna heard the shower go off and Declan stepped out as well. He dried off quickly before he began to slip into his clothes at record speed. Usually, he would have stuck around, watched a movie or simply slept next to her, but when business was calling, he had to go.

Frowning, Bri wondered who the new Andrew was going to be. The old one had been a thief and a liar. He had stolen medicine from the hospital. When he thought that he was being caught, he blamed it all on Bri. That was still a raw memory for her. For a moment, Declan had thought that perhaps she’d done it and it had torn her apart. He still tried to make up for that day often. Brionna didn’t mind however, because he trusted her now.

“What are you going to do the rest of the night?” Declan asked as he tugged on his shoes.

Bri shrugged. “Hang around here, I suppose. Mack is supposed to come over later. We’re going to study and eat too much pizza.”

Declan wrapped his arms around her. “Mack, huh? Maybe I should stick around.”

She grinned against his chest, the smell of his cologne filling her nose. “Are you getting jealous?” She teased.

“No need,” he mumbled against her neck, “I
know
you’re mine.”

Brionna felt that old, familiar tingle travel through her body. He pulled back, kissed her lips gently. When he pulled back, he winked. There was a smug grin on his lips.

“Get out of here,” Bri said, feigning irritation.

With a laugh, Declan kissed her forehead before he headed out of the door. She closed the door behind him, shaking her head. The man definitely had some kind of a hold on her. She couldn’t complain though. It had been quite a while since she’d been as happy as she was.

Brionna decided to clean up her apartment a bit  before Mack was due to come over. She knew he was still at work, but he’d be off soon. As she made her way to the apartment, cleaning up the dropped clothes from the night before, she couldn’t help but to smile. Sometimes she and Declan became so wrapped up in each other that they forgot the rest of the world existed. Or the laundry hamper.

She dumped the clothes before she got dressed herself. A pair of cotton, purple shorts and a black tank top were what she chose to put on, before she tried to tame her curly black and brown hair into a ponytail. Finally, she sighed. Mack would be off soon, all she had to do was order pizza and get out the books.

Brionna was settling onto the couch, a soda in her hand, when there was a knock on her door. She pushed herself up before she opened the door. Mack stood there, still in scrubs, his gym bag slung over his shoulder.

“Please tell me there’s food.”

“It just came a few minutes ago.”

“Good,” he said as he reached into his bag, “I brought beer.”

“My hero.”

They both settled onto the couch and dug into the pieces. Several slices later, stuffed and happily sipping a beer, Brionna turned to Mack. He was wiping his face with a napkin, a grin on his face when he noticed that she was staring.

“Any interesting cases at work?”

He shook his head. “Not really. You were just there yesterday, you know.”

“I know, but I hate sitting around.”

“You mean when your mystery guy isn’t over.”

Brionna grinned, but she didn’t reply. No one knew that she and Declan were together. Both of them thought it was better that way. He could be looked at as playing favorites and she would get a bad reputation if people knew that she was sleeping with him.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said as she sipped her beer again.

“Sure you don’t,” Mack said with a wink. “Let’s get studying. Wendy’s already on my ass.”

“Who’s Wendy?” She asked, raising an eyebrow.

“She’s the new Andrew. Declan’s new assistant. I forgot, you weren’t there today.”

Brionna cracked open her book. “What’s she like?”

“Tough. The woman doesn’t play around. She kind of reminds me of you in a way. Really smart, kinda obsessed with the hard cases and she’s really hot.”

“Are you calling me hot?” Brionna teased.

“Who doesn’t know that? Focus,” he said, flicking her arm.

“Ow! Okay, okay. Geez.”

Brionna cracked open her book and began asking him questions. Still, her mind wasn’t completely there. She knew that Mack didn’t know any better, he couldn’t know that she and Declan had started dating, but it still bothered her. Wendy was like her, she was smart and hot. None of those things made her feel any better.

“Earth to Bri,” Mack said snapping his fingers in front of her face, “Are you alive?”

The woman shook her head, then smiled. “Yeah, I’m still here.”

“Good. Look, it’s been a long day. Can I use your shower and we can pick this back up when I get out?”

“Of course. Go ahead.”

While Mack was busy showering, Brionna took the time to text Declan. She knew it was possible that he wouldn’t get back to her for quite a while, but she wanted to text him anyway. She sat with the phone in her hand, staring at the screen. What could she say that wouldn’t sound crazy or possessive? Finally, she came up with something.

Have a good day. I hope this Andrew’s  better than the last one!

Declan didn’t text back right away, as she’d secretly hoped. Mack came out of the bathroom. He now wore jeans that hung around his hips showing off the muscles that she hadn't fully had time to think about before. She covered her eyes quickly. He was vigorously drying his hair.

“Mack! Put some clothes on!”

He laughed. “I’m sorry! I forgot, secret boyfriend.” He dodged a pillow that Bri threw at him. “I’m going, I’m going!”

When he was safely back in the bathroom, no doubt putting a shirt on, she sighed. If she hadn’t met Declan, she probably would have liked Mack more. He was almost exactly like her and he was fun to be around. The only one who was on her mind, however, was Mr. Longston. That made her grin to think about.

The bathroom door opened once more. He walked into the living room, this time fully clothed. As he sat down beside her, he lifted an eyebrow.

“Better?”

“Much better.” She replied.

They spent the next couple of hours studying. When their brains couldn’t take anymore, they flipped on the television. Mack found a generic action movie to watch, something that made Bri scrounge up her nose at the screen, but she didn’t object. Her brain was too dead to comprehend much else at the moment.

“Oh yeah,” Mack said, stretched out on the couch as she cleaned up their dinner, “don’t forget. Come really early tomorrow. Wendy’s really a stickler for the rules.”

Brionna rolled her eyes. “When don’t I come to work early? I can’t let you guys take all of the good cases.”

Mack chuckled. “I’m just trying to give you a heads up. Don’t shoot the messenger.”

Mack left a little while later. Brionna could tell that he was exhausted when he did. She sat on the couch a little longer, flipping through tv channels rapidly before she turned it off and decided that it was time for bed. There was a text on her phone.

Work is good. New Andrew’s alright. Do you think I can get her to just quit?

Those words made Brionna smile for some reason. Same old Declan. She laid the phone beside her in case he called her before she drifted off to sleep. It was nice to know that he hadn’t changed.
