She applied fresh lipstick. Shook her hair and pouted. She would make tonight a night to remember. She knew that the other members of the band were just been crude to deliberately shock her, but then she grew up with four brothers, so she wasn

t easily shocked.

Back at the table Jay stood up as Sam approached. She smiled at him. He was definitely the hottest one in the band.

Sam noticed Damon sitting next to Nick and Pete.

“Damon; how lovely to see you!” Sam said in her sexiest voice. He stood up and kissed her cheek. They spoke briefly and Jay slipped his fingers through hers. Damon noticed and raised an eyebrow in Jay’
s direction.

Pete and Steve had disappeared and Nick and Damon were lost in chat. Jay had his arm around Sam and he kissed her cheek lightly. It tickled and she giggled. Nick and Damon looked over at them and Nick joked:

“Get a room, Dude!” Jay laughed and Sam flashed Nick a disapproving look.

“Guys, I’
m dropping Sam home.” He stood up. “Damon, catch you later man.” They shook hands and slapped each other on the arm. It was so American.

Outside, Jay hailed a cab and got in beside Sam. He took her hand in his. Sam was angry, but not with him. She knew Nick was a jerk but the way they talked in front of her made her feel like she was just another groupie.

As the taxi pulled up outside Sam

s building, Jay paid the driver and they went up to her apartment.

She switched on the light and Jay pulled her into his arms. She kissed him passionately. This had been the best weekend of her life. And tomorrow, he would be gone and out of her life. All she would have of this weekend would be delicious memories. Jay took her hand and led her to the bedroom. He undressed her slowly and kissed her tenderly all over. She responded to him.

Chapter Seven

The sun was rising in the sky, Sam kissed Jay

s chest. It was so smooth and tanned. He was tracing little circles on her arm.

“When do you leave?” She asked him. He groaned as he kissed her hair. She brushed herself against him.

“Babe, you make me soo hard,” she laughed and he said. “I don’
t want to leave. The flight is after lunch.” Sam kissed him; she didn’t want this moment to end. Running her fingers through his hair she looked into his eyes. They were such a piercing blue. How many women shared moments like this with him? She wondered. Sam pushed that thought to the back of her mind.

“Want a drink, Jay?” she asked huskily. She pulled on her silk robe and went into the kitchen. Opening the refrigerator door was something she had done a dozen times, yet doing it now had an almost elemental meaning.

When she returned to the bedroom Jay was sitting up resting on one elbow. In an hour or so he would leave the apartment to fly to Corsica to record the video for their new record. The only way she would ever see him again would be to turn on a music channel. But it was seeing him at that moment in her bed, naked. That would be the way that Sam would remember him.

They showered together and as Sam dressed, Jay came out of the bathroom, totally naked. He was smiling at her. He looked so sexy. She felt an ache between her legs as the longing to have him inside her took over. She had to be in work in an hour and he had to go back to his hotel and get his gear.

She tied up her hair and stood up. He was behind her in an instant; arms around her stomach, kissing her neck. Jay groaned audibly as he drank in the smell of her perfume.

Sam poured him coffee as he came into the living room of her small apartment. He was dressed and taking the mug he said thanks.

“I’
ll call you tonight, Sam.” He took a sip from the cup and then put it on the table. She looked at him. His hair was damp and there were beads of sweat on his forehead. Jay took her face in his hands and tilted his head sideways and kissed her mouth his tongue probing hers. Then he released her. “This was a perfect weekend for me babe.” He picked up his jacket and walked to the door.

“I hate goodbyes. I’
ll call you.” He kissed her cheek and turned and walked away. As Sam closed the door behind her, a tear rolled down her face. He was a gentleman right to the end. Something inside her knew that he wouldn’t call but there was also something else, a small glimmer of hope that he might. That perhaps, he too felt something more, more than just good sex.

Chapter Eight

Over the next seven weeks or so Sam was kept busy. Damon

s paintings all sold but one. And there was another show that they were getting ready for. This time it was a little old dear that had retired from teaching and taken an evening class in painting, only to discover that she had a talent.

Sam liked her instantly. She reminded her of her grandmother. Always giving advice and telling old stories. Sam doubted that half of the stories could have happened but it was the way Barbara told them, one couldn’t

t help but listen with baited breath.

She was delighted to be kept so busy, it took her mind off her personal life. She hadn

t spoken to Lisa for a couple of weeks. In a way she was happy because it saved her having to explain why she was feeling so gloomy.

After Jay left the apartment to shoot the video, that evening a bouquet of beautiful white roses arrived for her as the gallery was about to close. The card read:

   “
Thanks. Had a good time,

              Jay”.

He had promised to call her that night but he never did. Nor did he call the next day or the one after that. At first Sam cried for being such a fool for believing that he would and that the weekend they had shared was anything other than sex. But she couldn’t hate him for they had used each other. And she never really believed that he would call. She was only surprised that he bothered to send her the flowers.

Sam had several meetings with Damon but she never mentioned Jay and neither did Damon.

She looked at her watch. It was almost lunchtime and she was due in a meeting with two art dealers in ten minutes. She took a deep breath and went down the hall to her boss

s office. Both art dealers were already there.

They shook hands with Sam as she put down her files on the table. The negotiations were already underway.

An hour later she was sitting in a café sipping a latte when a video came on the screen of the fifty two inch plasma inside the café. There was Jay playing his guitar, jumping around the stage. Nick was making like he was kissing the microphone. The camera panned back to Jay; with two young blonde girls hanging off him, he was still strumming the guitar.

“Babe you know you want all of this”,
He sang. Then with a loud scream from his guitar he launched into a solo riff. The camera caught his face up close and he obliged with a wink and a kiss into the lens.

      “
Ooohh Babe you know all you have to do is touch this and it

s yours”,
Nick and Jay were dancing around with two blonde girls in bikinis wrapped around their legs, caressing them as Jay sang:

“Take it babe; you know you want all of this”,

Sam turned her head away from the TV. She couldn’t watch anymore. He looked so hot, so sexy and only a short time ago he was in her bed.

“Looks like they have another hit”, a voice said softly beside her. Sam jumped and then laughed as she looked up at Damon. He asked if he could join her and she smiled at him. Of all the artists that her gallery represented, Sam liked Damon the most. He was intense about his art and was enthusiastic about all suggestions that were made to him regarding sales and shows. The passion he had for life was more than reflected in his work.

“How have you been, Samantha?” He asked. There was concern in his voice. She smiled at him.

“Damon, it was only Monday we had a meeting together”. She raised her cup to her mouth. It hid the quiver that she was feeling. And the fact that seeing Jay on the TV hurt because this was the only place she could see him now.

“You know what I mean”. He handed her a napkin. “Jay was one of my best friends at school. He was always a great guy, always kept his promises”.
Except this time
, Sam thought. She looked at Damon. Why didn’t he join the band she wondered?

“I’
m sure he does,” Sam said. “We had a great time that weekend. It was just good fun but nothing serious. But we have two very different lifestyles-” She broke off as her phone rang. It was her boss.

She made her apologies and left the café. Sam was grateful for the interruption. She didn’t know how long it would have taken Damon to figure out, that she was hurting.

The rest of the week passed in a haze of meetings and phone calls from different galleries and dealers. For that at least Sam was grateful.

A message from Lisa on her answer machine greeted Sam when she returned to the apartment Friday evening. She had forgotten that Lisa was having a dinner party. It was too late to get out of it now. Sam showered and changed into her black shift dress. The same dress she wore the night Jay first made love to her. Quickly she took it off and rolled it up into a ball and threw it over the bed, it slipped down beside the wall and Sam chose a white dress with a sweetheart neckline.

There were two other people there when Sam arrived. Lisa shoved a glass of champagne into her hand and ushered her into the lounge. Des, Lisa

s husband was playing with the remote of his new home cinema. He changed the channel to a music station. And there was Jay on the video she had seen him in earlier.

Seeing the expression on Sam

s face, Lisa looked from the TV to Sam and back to the TV again. She recognized Jay.

“Glam Metal?” She hissed at Sam. There was a look of sheer disbelief. Des looked at them both and said:

“They killed rock music; Grown up men wearing makeup!” He and the couple he was talking to laughed. Lisa glared at the woman; it was obvious she didn’t
like her.

She grabbed Sam

s arm and dragged her into the kitchen.

“You sly fox!” She said. “When were you going to tell me?” Sam downed her glass in one gulp. It seemed a good idea to get roaring drunk. At least she could forget him for a while.

“There’
s nothing to tell, Li.” She refilled her glass and said Cheers.

“You shagged GM Jay and there’
s nothing to tell,” Lisa retorted with a groan.
