Chapter 2
Lost
“Hey, don't worry,” the man standing between me and my exit hissed in my ear. “No one is going to hurt you.” I stared at him, but he looked over at the larger man. Then he spoke loudly enough for everyone in the bar to hear. “I'm claiming this one as mine. You know the rules. None of you are allowed to touch her. That includes you, Gary. She is now the property of the Night Rider's President and I expect you all to follow the code.”
The men nodded. The larger man, apparently named Gary, looked pissed, but he nodded and turned away. I glanced angrily at the new man. His property!? Who did he think he was. On second glance, I realized that he was actually incredibly attractive. He wasn't my usual clean cut type, but under the dirt and roughness, he was really hot. He was muscular and cut, with shaggy, unkempt brown hair and flashing, intelligent green eyes. His skin was tanned to a beautiful, sun-kissed brown. I hesitated for a moment, but my anger won over my attraction quickly.
“You
claim
me?” I exclaimed to him angrily as the noisy roar of conversation returned around us. “You can't fucking claim me. I'm not property. And I'm certainly not your property.” I was fuming, but he was smiling at my lazily, like I was somehow amusing him.
“Come on now, honey,” he said. “I was just helping you out. No one here will bother you, now that I've claimed you. None of my guys would harm you. But they do like having a bit of fun and can be kind of persistent in their pursuit of beautiful women. I was just trying to make your life easier since you looked so upset. Sorry your delicate little feelings got hurt in the process.” His eyes flashed with humor, but I was filled with rage.
“My feelings? Seriously? Your friend just tried to assault me and then you acted like I am your property. I don't even know you. And I don't want to.” My voice wavered a little but I stood strong and placed a hand on my hip for dramatic effect.
“Hey now, don't be dramatic. You are judging us all wrong,” the man replied casually, as if the conversation bored him. “I bet you think you are so superior to us with your prim little attitude. Wouldn't want to mix with the low class bikers, right?” I couldn't tell if he was genuinely offended or messing with me, but he stared straight into my eyes with his piercing green gaze. I couldn't look away.
“It sounds like you are the one judging me,” I replied. “And all I want right now is to go home and pretend like tonight never happened.”
“Awh, don't be like that,” the man said. “I didn't mean to make you all depressed. I'm actually a pretty fun guy. So are my buddies here. They might be a little rough around the edges, but once you get to know them, you'll find that there was never a better group of guys. Stick around for a drink and I promise that we'll make sure you get home safe.” I wasn't sure why, but I agreed. I guess I wasn't ready to call the night a total failure just yet.
“Alright,” I agreed. “One drink. But I would prefer to go home in a car. Not on some dangerous motorcycle.” The man laughed.
“You really need to loosen up. Here, have a seat and I'll get you your drink.” I huffed, but sat down until he brought my drink over. I realized that I was already a bit tipsy and drinking more was not a great idea, but drinking was the only thing that helped calm my nerves and I needed it after everything that had just happened.
The stranger sat down next to me with his beer and turned to face me. Even the way he sat was so macho, with he legs out wide and his elbow leaned casually against the bar. I sighed.
“So honey, what's your story then?” the stranger asked.
“I don't have a story,” I replied defiantly. “What's your story? How did you end up being such a misogynistic pig who pals around with guys who treat women badly?” I asked sharply in return. I knew I was drunk and being a little harsh, but it felt good to let out my feelings.
“Ouch,” the stranger replied, placing his hand over his heart and making a fake pained expression. “You wound me. My story is pretty simple. Bet you can guess it. Grew up in broken home. My dad left when I was little. My mom was a drug addict. My uncle was part of this outlaw motorcycle club, the Night Riders and introduced me to bikes. It was my escape. They became my family. I never left. I know we seem kinda rough, but these guys have saved my life multiple times. They are all good guys. And none of them have ever hurt a woman. It is in our code and anyone who hurt a woman would be kicked out immediately. Gary is a jerk who likes to fuck around, but he wouldn't have actually done anything to you.” As he spoke, I felt most of my anger melt away. He seemed so sincere and looked around at the bikers in the bar with genuine love and admiration.
“Alright,” I replied. “My story is predictable too. I found love, he cheated. Now I feel lost.” I was surprised at myself for being so honest, but something about his honesty made me want to be honest in return. And maybe all the alcohol I had consumed played a role in that as well. The man looked at me with a serious expression, but a twinkle in his eye.
“You know, not all men are bad. I wouldn't cheat on you, darling,” he said in a sugary sweet voice.
“Yeah, in your dreams,” I replied. “You aren't exactly my type.”
“And what's your type?” he asked in a serious tone this time.
“I like nice guys. The ones who are from good families and want to settle down and have a good wife and family.” I said it with determination, looking at him in a way that I hoped conveyed that he was none of those things.
“Yeah, and how did that work out for you so far?” he asked. I had to admit he had a point. “Your making judgments based on all the wrong things sweetheart.”
“And what do you think the right things are?” I retorted. “Smelly leather and loud bikes that prove how manly you are?”
“No, I think you are looking at the superficial things, not the real indications of someone's character. That's how you ended up with that last loser who cheated on you. And that is how you ended up so unsatisfied with your life. You need to relax and be happy with yourself. Learn to have fun and not judge everyone based on what your mommy told you.”
I blushed deeply, feeling his judgment. He was partially right, but he was being such a dick about it that I didn't want to admit it. And staying angry felt so much better.
“I would never go for a guy like you,” I replied curtly. “You bad boys always think you have a heart of gold, but in reality, you just use that as an excuse to do bad things and treat people badly. Is it really so bad to act civilized and treat people with respect?” The stranger laughed.
“Alright, whatever you want sweetheart. But what makes you think I would want to be with such a bitter woman? I'll admit you've got nice tits, sexy legs, and a pretty face. But you're wound tighter than virgin's pussy and I bet you think sex involves just lying there with your eyes closed and thinking of England. So don't get all uppity about yourself.”
I gasped in shock and anger. How dare he judge me like that? I stood to get up and storm away, but I was drunker than I realized. I swayed, grasping for something to hold onto, and my legs gave out under me. The stranger grabbed my arm and helped steady me. His skin felt warm and comforting against mine. Despite my anger, I wanted to lean against his warm muscular chest and just close my eyes. I took a deep breath and inhaled the scent of worn leather, mixed with his deep, masculine smell. It stirred something inside me that I hadn't felt in a long time.
“Hey, don't be angry,” he said, his voice softer now. “I was just trying to get under your skin. I think you just need to relax a little and learn to enjoy life. That is something I learned from the Night Riders. Embrace each day because it may be your last.” There was a seriousness to his voice that told me there was a story behind that sentiment.
“I'm not as simple as you think,” I retorted. “I want excitement and adventure. I don't just judge based on appearances. I'm sitting here talking to you, aren't I?” The biker laughed.
“Yeah, you are. But you are pretty drunk. I don't think you would give me the time of day if you were sober. You haven't even given me your name yet.” I laughed, realizing that I didn't know his name either.
“I'm Sarah,” I said, extending my hand to him. “Pleased to make your acquaintance.” My small town manners were hard to shake. The man took my hand in his bigger, warmer, one. It felt rough and calloused, but somehow comforting.
“Nice to meet you Sarah. I'm Dex, at your service.” He smiled and held my hand in his for a moment longer after shaking it. I felt a warmth flooding my body and quickly pulled my hand back.
“Are you trying to flirt with me, Dex?” I asked. “Because I already told you that I'm not interested. You aren't going to seduce me.” Dex gave me a smile that was both flirty and mysterious.
“Oh honey, don't be full of yourself. If I wanted to seduce you, I could do it easily.” I laughed.
“Is that so? I would bet you a million dollars that you couldn't seduce me. Ever.” I nodded emphatically for effect, but Dex was looking at me seriously, as if he were considering something.
“You know, I'm willing to bet that I could seduce you. In one week. Are you really that confident that you could resist me?” He looked serious. I laughed.
“Yes, I'm confident. I'll take you up on that bet.” Dex nodded.
“Alright. Come along with us for a week. We are riding south, but I'll pay your ticket back home in a week. You'll have an adventure, and you can try and prove me wrong and resist my incredible charms. If I win, well, you still win because then you'll have a night with the best lover you'll ever had. I can guarantee that you'll be begging me to fuck you within a week though.” He looked at me triumphantly, knowing I couldn't refuse. And I couldn't.
Chapter 3
Found
“I'll win.” Those words were the start of something huge and if I had any idea at the time, I probably would have taken them back and walked right out of there. But I was drunk and bored and lonely and I wanted to protect my pride. There was no way in hell that I was going to be seduced by Dex, the obnoxious biker guy who had “claimed” me. Even if he was incredibly hot. I had been looking for an adventure, and now one was staring me in the face.
Dex laughed and gave me a slap on the back that almost knocked me off the stool. He turned and shouted out at his buddies in the bar.
“Hey Riders, listen up!” The loud, incessant chatter that had surrounded us died down and the men all turned and looked at Dex. “This here is Sarah. She is going to join us on the road for a bit. Make her feel welcome and remember that I've already claimed her. So keep all your dirty paws to yourself and be gentlemen.” The men laughed and made a few dirty jokes about Dex getting some “mobile pussy.” I made a gagging motion and shook my head.
“You're definitely not getting any of this, mobile or not,” I warned him. “I enjoy winning and dislike jerks like you. So don't go getting any big ideas.”
“Hey now,” the biker said with a laugh. “Keep those insults saved up. We still have a full week to go and I would hate for you to run out before we even hit the road. Let's head back to your place so you can pack a quick bag. We're going to be heading out pretty early in the morning and you will want to be rested.” He offered me his hand, and I reluctantly took it, realizing that I was too tipsy to walk in my high heels unassisted. When we got outside, Dex took me over to his bike. It was a large hog, totally manly and worthy of the President of a Motorcycle Club. He had painted on the Night Rider's logo is a deep crimson on top of the black background paint. It shone brightly, even through the layer of grime covering his bike.
“Hey, you should wash that thing,” I told him with a yawn.
Dex laughed good naturedly. “Yeah, I'll get right on that. Here, put this on,” he said, handing me a helmet. I put it on and he helped tighten the strap under my chin. “Alright, now just sit behind me and hold tight. Is this going to be your first time on a bike?” I nodded. “Well, I'm glad to be the one to pop your cherry. Enjoy it! Just like losing your virginity, you are going to wake up tomorrow sore and with a few regrets, but really really wanting to do it again.” Dex laughed, apparently pleased with his own attempt at humor.
I gave him a look to show him that I didn't think he was hilarious as he thought, but quickly hopped on the bike behind him and told him where to go. Dex started the engine and it roared loudly, drowning out any further possibility for conversation. I gripped him tightly around the waist and couldn't help but feel how hard and muscular his abs and chest felt under his shirt and leather jacket. He may be hot, but he was still really annoying and possibly dangerous, I reminded myself.
I found myself enjoying the ride, watching the still dark of the countryside zip by us and fade into the distance one cornfield at a time. Before long, we pulled up in front of my place. I felt sad as the motorcycle slowed to a stop. While we were riding, my thoughts cleared away and I was able to live in the moment. Once we stopped, everything crowded back into my head. I realized I was letting a biker, the head of some motorcycle gang, who I had just met that night, into my home. But I was still tipsy enough that I decided to throw caution to the wind. I unlocked the door and turned on my light. Dex follow in behind me and laughed as he looked around.
“This place looks exactly how I imagined it would,” he said, putting an arm around me should. “So perfectly neat and clean. You really are a control freak, aren't you? Well, we'll get you loosened up soon.” I looked around my living room and realized he was right. Everything was in the perfect place. It didn't even really look like someone lived there. I didn't see what was wrong with wanting cleanliness and order though. I stuck my tongue out at Dex and he laughed and shook his head at me while I went to pack a small bag for the week. I managed to throw a few changes of clothes and some toiletries into my bag, before I was totally overcome with exhaustion.
I yawned as I walked back over to where Dex was sitting on my couch, probably leaving streaks of dirt against the white decorative pillows.
“I'm so tired. Can we just crash here and head out early?” I asked, trying and failing to stifle another yawn.
“Yeah, that's alright. I'll just call the guys and let them know we'll meet up with them in the morning. I'll crash on your couch. And I promise not to rape you or murder you or steal from you in your sleep,” he added when he saw the look I gave him.
“Yeah, that is good but could you maybe shower first?” I asked. “The couch is pretty new.”
Dex shook his head like I had asked something crazy, but he agreed. I hid in the kitchen, making some tea while he showered and cleaned up. He walked out of the bathroom and I couldn't help but stare a little. He was wearing only his jeans, leaving his chest totally bare. He was even more ripped than I had imagined, with strong, bulky biceps and perfectly cut abs that didn't seem to have an ounce of fat on them. I found myself staring and bit my lips, turning away with a quick blush. I don't think I turned quick enough though, because Dex called out.
“Like what you see, princess?” I ignored him and brought our mugs of tea to the table. Dex looked at his cup suspiciously, like it was weird to have a mug of tea before bed. But once I started to sip from mine, he followed suit and politely sipped his tea. We didn't talk much, mostly because I was basically falling asleep. I put our cups in the sink and went brought out a blanket from the closet for Dex, then walked towards my room.
“Goodnight Sarah,” Dex called out.
“Good night,” I called back, stifling another yawn, before collapsing into my bed.
I was woken up by Dex standing over me as the rays of morning sunlight poured in through my bedroom windows.
“Time to get up. We've gotta move out soon,” Dex commanded, pulling the cover off of me.
“Hey!” I yelled, trying to yank the cover back from him. “What if I slept naked?” I pulled on my shirt and shorts to make sure I was fully covered.
“Well, that would be fun. Then I could have had a preview. But it is pretty obvious that you aren't the kinda girl who sleeps naked.” He said it as if it were a bad thing. I gave an exasperated sigh, but sat up and swung my legs to the floor. Dex was already fully dressed with his leather jacket on so I rushed to get ready, pushing him out of my room and quickly pulling on some jeans and a t-shirt and pulling my hair into a ponytail. I slipped on my sneakers and glanced in the mirror. I didn't look as sexy as I had the night before, but sexy wasn't the look I was going for since I was about to be surrounded by horny bikers. I grabbed the bag I had packed the night before and headed out to the living room where Dex waited impatiently. He jumped up when I entered and grabbed my bag from me.
“We have to head out. We'll grab breakfast with the guys,” he said, ushering me out the door. I locked the door behind us, wondering if I was crazy for agreeing to this whole thing. It wasn't too late to back out. But I realized that I didn't want to back out. I wanted an adventure. I needed a change in my life, and even though Dex was insufferable, he was definitely different from anyone I had ever known. I needed this, and I would return in a week, ready to resume my life and ready to find the man of my dreams.
As I climbed onto the bike behind Dex, I realized that he was right about how I would feel. My body was sore, especially my thighs. Nevertheless, I was excited about getting back on and having another chance to ride. We took off with a loud roar and headed to meet up with the rest of the Night Riders. I watched as the countryside flew past and noticed how different it looked in the daylight. This town might be flat and boring as hell, but it did have its own version of beauty. Everything looked so calm and peaceful as I waved good bye to my safe little life for a week. The cows didn't even look up as we zoomed past.
