“Brooke, I think you should get your things and go, make today your last day.”
“No problem David! Best of luck to you,” I said as I packed up my picture frame and flowers. As far as I was concerned, he
could kiss my plump, fat ass and he was going to need all the luck he could get.

Dylan was in the garage when I arrived with a look of shock on his face.
“What’s wrong princess? Bad day at work?” he smirked as I walked past him.
“Not really,” I said as I entered the grand entrance of the penthouse.
“I heard,” Dylan said laughing, walking toward me and pulling me into a tight hug.
“What? Who told you?” I asked?
“My dad called. He said that David was in his office ranting and raving about what a bitch you are and how he didn’t want to see you in his department again. He also expressed to my father that he didn’t appreciate that I take off time whenever it suits me.”
“You have got to be kidding me,” I said realizing what a rat bastard David truly was. “What did your dad say? Was he pissed that I stood up to David?”
Dylan laughed hard. “No princess. My dad thought it was comical. He said David looked like a raving lunatic in his office. He told him that he needed to go back downstairs and finish the job he was hired to do and to quit worrying about what my girlfriend and I do. It’s one of the perks of owning the compan
y Brooke. You needed time off for personal reasons and you were able to take it. I’m glad I have been able to provide that for you, and now that you’re unemployed, I will have you all to myself,” he snickered.
“At some point though, I will have to find another job and pay you back Dylan. I don’t expect you to support me. I am perfectly capable of supporting myself and I fully intend on doing so.”
Dylan got closer to me, looking me in the eye; his blue eyes staring into me making me feel all hot and tingly inside. “I know Brooke. Stop worrying, I know you are perfectly capable of taking care of yourself. It’s one of the many things that attracted me to you. You’ve never cared about my money, just me. Oh…and speaking of money, I almost forgot, we have my parent’s thirtieth wedding anniversary party this Saturday night. Would you do me the honors of being my date?”
“I would but I don’t have anything to wear, unless it is business casual attire and I’m pretty sure it won’t be.”
“Actually Brooke, it’s a toga party, so you’ll only need a sheet.”
I stood looking at him in horror, “you’re kidding right?” I asked as Dylan laughed hysterically.
“Yes princess, I’m kidding. It’s a ball so we’ll need to get you a dress for the event. Don’t even start with me, I know how you like to worry, I have it taken care of it. I have a designer that will make you a beautiful dress out of sheets,” he said laughing and rolling his eyes.
Pushing him away, I
turned walking toward the bathroom, “you are such an ass Dylan,” I said shaking my head and trying to hold back my laughter; I wasn’t very successful. I shut the door and took a moment for myself, feeling the anxiety wash over me like an angry ocean. I would be meeting Dylan’s parents for the first time and I was concerned how they would react to their youngest son dating an older woman and it was something that I was going to have to get over if I wanted to share a life with Dylan. I wanted it so much, almost too much to the point of doing anything it would take to have it, even if it meant wearing a dress made of sheets.

Dylan wasted no time getting his personal designer over to the house. Since he and Tristan had been long standing friends for years, he invited him and Stephanie to attend the ball as well. Stephanie was doing well in her recovery; I was amazed at how fast she was healing after what she had been through, she was a tough cookie. I admired her greatly because had something like that happened to me, I’d still be held up in bed having everybody wait on my every beck and call. I thought it was nice of Dylan to invite them but understood when they both declined. They had become close friends over the last couple of weeks and I was grateful that their friendship afforded my mother the time she needed to take care of herself. I knew things weren’t going well for my mother and Thomas. My mom didn’t speak of their relationship with Stephanie and I, but it didn’t take a genius to see that their relationship was broken and coming to end.
Since the revelation of my lineage, I hadn’t really spoken to anyone in my family other than Stephanie and since she was still recovery, no one was going to tell her the family secret. I feared her reaction once she found out, she had always been such a daddy’s girl
, and I knew the news was going to crush her. Sooner or later though, the truth would rear its ugly head once again and cause mass chaos in our lives.
I was brought back to the here and now
when my hair stylist arrived to prepare me for the evening. Dana was a tall, thin blonde who wore her hair in a short a-line cut, which only accentuated the shape of her thin oval face. She was a pleasant young woman and I think she could sense my unease from the way I responded to her questions. Everything had to be perfect, I had to be perfect. I decided on an up do with my hair being swept away from my face in the front and large, loose curls in the back that slightly brushed my skin. I wasn’t use to being pampered and was shocked when she pulled out her make-up kit and did her magic on my face. I was anxious for her to finish so I could see the final product.
Dana walked over to my oversized closet and pulled out the dress bag, increasing my excitement. I hadn’t seen the dress since I’d had my custom fitting just a few days before. I worried what would happen if I went to try the dress on and it all of sudden didn’t fit. Then again, with the kind of money my lovely, handsome boyfriend had, I didn’t think it would be a problem. I got my first glimpse of the dress as Dana unzipped the bag and gently pulled the dress out, placing it on the bed. It was a simple, gorgeous, elegant emerald green gown. As I stepped into the strapless dress, I couldn’t help but notice how it hugged the curves at my waist as it tape
red in long layers to my feet. My Christian Louboutin stilettos and matching handbag were a glitzy accent to the simple, yet elegance of my attire.
I took one last look in the mirror, making sure nothing was out of place; I looked stunning. I gave Dana a hug and thanked her for her services then asked her to let Dylan know I would be down in a moment. I needed time to wrap my head around the fact that I would be meeting his family in less than an hour. I
took a deep breath and pulled myself together.
I quietly walked down the grand, wrought iron spiral staircase in hopes of catching a glimpse of the man I loved. I stopped
, taking in the image of Dylan dressed in his black tux looking out and taking in the city lights. He was as breath taking as the scene he was taking in. I stared in awe, believing he couldn’t be more beautiful than he was at that moment; I was wrong.
Sensing my presence, Dylan turned and then stopped as his breath hitched. A sweet smile curved his lips as he walked toward me, taking my hand and placing a soft kiss on top.
“Brooke,” he said breathless. “You are so beautiful, what did I ever do to deserve someone as special as you? That dress…the color, it brings out your eyes, you’re glowing.” He pulled me into him, his soft lips feathering light, loving kisses over mine. I couldn’t get enough of his love; I moved closer wanting to feel every emotion that I knew he would make me feel. I opened my mouth allowing him to go deeper, making me forget every horrible thing that had happened in my past. He was my rock, master of my heart, keeper of my soul. I never wanted this moment to end. A few more strokes of our tongues and then a caress down my cheek and the kiss was broken. Dylan pulled away reaching into his pocket.
“Princess, I have something for you,” he said as he produced a rectangular box revealing diamond tear drop earrings and matching necklace.
“You should always be dressed in diamonds Brooke; your beauty does
them
justice. Turn around baby, let me put it on you and don’t take it off until after I’ve thoroughly fucked you wearing nothing but this and the earrings,” he said brushing his lips against my ear. Chills ran down my body at the excitement of his touch.
Oh why can’t we just stay here and start now
, I thought.
“I know what you’re thinking Brooke,” Dylan said raising his brow at me. “Trust me baby, I would love nothing more than to unzip you right out of that dress and have you on the kitchen table but we can’t miss this party, save your appetite for later princess, you’
re gonna need it.” I bit my bottom lip while looking at the promise of the kitchen table thinking of all the things I could do to Dylan on there. Oh…the game was so on.
“Princess,” he said in an uneasy tone. “I don’t know what’s going on in that beautiful head of yours right now, but that look says you’re up to no good.”
“You have no idea cowboy but you’re gonna like it,” I said giggling and grabbing his hand leading him down to the car.
“If it involves you Brooke, I will love it,” he said leaning down kissing my cheek. “
Come, Andrew is waiting; he has the pleasure of driving us tonight.” I took Dylan’s hand as he led me to the shiny black limo where Andrew was indeed waiting for us with the door open and greeted us, “Mr. Prescott, Ms. Stone,” he said as he nodded. Placing his hand on the small of my back, Dylan helped me slide onto the black seat bench and then slid in next to me. There was suddenly a distance between us, one I couldn’t put my finger on, but Dylan seemed nervous. Really nervous. I had never seen him so quiet and lost in his own head as he was on our car ride to the Prescott Mansion. He reached for my hand bringing it to his lips for a kiss and then held on for dear life. I couldn’t put my finger on what was going on with him, but if I had to guess, I would have had to say he was having second thoughts about taking me to meet his parents. A lump was forming in my throat as we neared the street where Dylan’s parents would be waiting for our arrival.
CHAPTER
8
As the limo pulled around into the large curved driveway, we were greeted by papa
razzi lining the streets and a red carpet that was laid out for guests attending the party. When the car came to a stop Dylan let out a deep breath, leaning over and whispering in my ear, “show time.” As if I wasn’t nervous enough to meet his parents the paparazzi added to my unsettled state. I was just a commoner, a virtual nobody who valued her privacy. Andrew came around and opened the door and as Dylan stepped out the reporters shouted his name, “Mr. Prescott, Mr. Prescott.” He reached in, helping me out of the car and as we walked along the red carpet up to the large colonial mansion, more calls from reporters rang out. “Mr. Prescott, Mr. Prescott, who is the lovely lady that accompanies you this evening?” Dylan stopped, gripping my hand tightly; “this lovely lady is Ms. Brooke Stone.”
“Mr. Prescott, is she your new love interest?
” another reporter asked.
“No comment at this time,”
Dylan responded. “You know I like to keep my personal life private. Ms. Stone is a close, personal friend of mine and we’ll leave it at that for now.”
“Ms. Stone, how do you feel about Mr. Arici being arrested and charged with murder?” a report
er from the Tribune asked. I looked at Dylan as he held my hand tighter and didn’t respond to the reporter.
“Ms. Stone has no comment at this time regarding Mr. Arici’s involv
ement in Ms. Martinelli’s death,” Dylan responded. “It’s been a pleasure ladies and gentlemen, now please excuse us,” he said as we joined the party in the mansion. He handled the paparazzi with such style and ease, like it was second nature to him. Watching him command a crowd was sexy, intriguing and hot as hell. Dylan in a tux was like strawberries dipped in chocolate and he was the chocolate; delicious, mouth watering, pure sexual bliss. Pouring chocolate on Dylan’s cock and licking it off came to mind; oh the fun I could have, yes, blind folded Dylan on the kitchen table dipped in chocolate. A shiver ran through me and then I nearly killed myself as I tripped on my dress.
I was just about to do a face plant on the floor when a very handsome older gentleman caught me just as I began to fall.
“Thank you,” I said straightening, still holding on to the stranger.
“
I don’t know what came over me, sometimes I can be so clumsy,” I responded giving an embarrassed look. I was even more embarrassed when I realized who it was that caught me. Piercing blue eyes looked into mine, the same piercing blue eyes that I now knew so well. “Dylan,” he nodded. “I assume this is the beautiful Brooke that you have been hiding from all of us, isn’t it son?”
“Dad I haven’t been hiding her, the timing just wasn’t right. She’s been through a lot over the last couple of months, as you well know.” His father nodded, “yes, I am aware of the ordeals that this beautiful young woman has been through.
Welcome to the party my dear, we are very glad that you could make it tonight; I’m Dylan’s father Wade Prescott. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, my wife Rebecca and I have heard so much about you. Speaking of Rebecca, Dylan, why don’t you go and find your mother. She has been anxious all day to meet the lucky woman who has finally won your heart.” Dylan raised his brow and shrugged, “princess, I’ll be right back. Dad, don’t talk her ear off and no telling stories of when I was little.” Wade laughed deep from his chest; “Dylan, I do believe that is your mother’s department, not mine, so I’ll leave that to her.”
