“This is the best place ever,” Wheland smiled.

“With you here with me, it will be,” Rooster said.

“Aww, babe. That’s so romantic,” Wheland said. “Will there be rose petals waiting for me on the bed, too?”

“No rose petals, just dildos and lube.”
Wheland’s head jerked to look at Rooster. “Seriously? You have dildos?”

Rooster laughed loudly. Damn, he loved the naughty streak in Wheland. No matter how old Wheland grew to be, Rooster knew he could always count on Wheland’s playful side to get them through life.

A couple of miles from Rooster’s cabin, Rooster pulled off the highway in a nameless piss-ant town, complete with all the basic conveniences and not much more.

“Is this the biggest town near you?” Wheland asked.

“Pretty much,” Rooster said.

“There’s nothing here,” Wheland said, craning his neck as Rooster cruised down what looked to be the main drag. “Is there even a bar?”

“Yep. One. And it happens to cater more toward the gay population, too,” Rooster said.

“No fucking way,” Wheland said. “Are you jerking me again?”

“Babe, if I were jerking you, you’d know it,” Rooster said.

“You’re right, I would,” Wheland said and winked at him. “And, for the record, I’d love it.”

Rooster pulled in front of a bar called Hind Quarters and waited for the questions he knew would come from Wheland. There were a few aspects about this trip Rooster wasn’t sure how Wheland would react, but Wheland claimed he wanted to know everything about him, and this was a good place to start.

“Hind Quarters,” Wheland said, reading from the sign. “Wait. Is this the place you came to hook-up with guys?”

“A few,” Rooster said. “Honestly, not many.”

Rooster watched Wheland study the front of the building. It was made to look like an old saloon, with wide planks on the exterior walls and a porch. He sensed Wheland’s inner conflict and wondered if he was upset they were parked here. Then, something else occurred to him and he couldn’t stop himself from asking the question.

“Have you ever been to gay bar?”

“No, not really,” Wheland said. “I’ve been to a few dungeon rooms for private instruction with the rope play and stuff, but I was more or less by myself.”

Rooster nodded and mulled over what they should do. This was a new beginning of them living “out” and going inside Hind Quarters was definitely a step in that direction. Before he could change his mind, Rooster blurted the question. “Wanna go in for a beer and a burger?”

Wheland looked at his watch. It was a little before one o’clock in the afternoon. He really wanted to see Rooster’s cabin, but it seemed it was important to Rooster they go in to this bar, too.

“We’ll just get something to eat before we drive the rest of the way,” Rooster suggested. “I need to take a piss anyway, and it’d be nice to stretch our legs.”

“Okay. Let’s do it,” Wheland said.

“Are you sure?” Rooster asked.

“Definitely,” Wheland said, and stepped out of the car. “Maybe some of your ex-boyfriends will be in here and they’ll see you’re with me now.”

Rooster stopped Wheland at the front of the car. “You are my first
boyfriend
, Mick.”

Wheland reached for Rooster’s hand and winked. “Good to know. Let’s go get that beer.”

For one in the afternoon, Hind Quarters was busier than Wheland expected, and as Rooster had stated, most of the people inside were men. The interior kept with the saloon style of the outside, complete with a long, rustic bar, wooden floor, and stools, and a jukebox in the back playing country music.

“Order us two beers,” Rooster said. “I’m going to take a leak, then we’ll get a table.”

Wheland nodded and turned to the bartender to place their order. A moment later a cute blonde pressed herself to his side. The move was overtly flirtatious and Wheland had to admit he was surprised to have this happen in a gay bar. Maybe the place wasn’t as gay as Rooster had led him to believe.

“Hey, sugar,” the woman said to Wheland. “You’re new.”

I think they call it fresh meat, sugar.

Wheland did a quick assessment of her: late twenties, Daisy Duke shorts, cowboy boots, and hat, and a half-shirt small enough to make her boobs ooze out of the top. She certainly was pretty, but definitely not Wheland’s type.

And, speaking of my type,”
he thought. Wheland watched Rooster strutting that gorgeous body toward him. His natural swagger potent enough to make his knees weak every time he saw the man. Rooster moved in beside Wheland and kissed him on the lips.

“You’re together?” the blonde asked, her eyes bouncing between them.

“Definitely,” Wheland said, and slid his arm around Rooster’s waist.

“My God, you two are beautiful,” the girl said. “Imagine the babies you’d have.”

Rooster laughed at her remark. “I think we’d make history if we managed that.”

“I meant through a surrogate,” she said. “Gays do that all the time now. Hell, I’d be happy to have your babies!” Her elbow connected with Wheland’s ribs. “But, only if we can make it the old fashioned way.”

Wheland was just about to reply when she ducked between two men and went back to her table.

A surrogate? Could we really do that?
Wheland wondered.

“Babe, I see a table open for us,” Rooster said, and touched Wheland on the elbow to direct him to it.

An hour later, they finished their burgers, fries, and beer, and walked back to their rental car. Wheland was quiet for the first half a mile. Rooster took his hand again and tugged on it to get his attention.

“What’s on your mind?” Rooster asked him.

“Have you ever thought about that?” Wheland asked.

“About what?”

“Us going the surrogate route to have a baby,” Wheland said.

“Is that something you’d wanna do?” Rooster asked.

Wheland’s smile was slow but strong. “I think I would,” Wheland said. “How about you?”

Rooster swallowed hard and nodded. “Yeah, I’d love to raise a kid with you. Maybe we could look into that option a little more when we get home?”

“Really? Wow,” Wheland signed. “I never thought shit like this would ever enter my mind, and now... I find myself thinking about all kinds of crazy stuff with you.”

“Well, look at that,” Rooster said.

“What are we looking at?” Wheland asked, squinting ahead of them through the windshield.

“Forever, Mick,” Rooster said. “It sounds like we’re looking at forever.”

“Shit! This is so fucking real right now, it’s scaring the hell out of me,” Wheland said.

“You were scared to go into that gay bar, too, but you did it and survived,” Rooster said.

“You say that like it’s funny,” Wheland said. “Maybe when we get back to L.A. I’ll take you to a dungeon and tie you to a Saint Andrew’s cross in front of an audience. What do you think about that?”

“Hmmm, that visual makes me horny,” Rooster said.

Wheland gripped the back of Rooster’s neck and squeezed. “You like the idea of being watched while I bind you?”

“I do,” Rooster said. “My cock is hard as stone from imagining it.”

Wheland’s hand cupped the front of Rooster’s groin and moaned. “How much longer until we get to your cabin?”

“Five minutes,” Rooster said.

“Drive faster.”
