Arms wrapped around my shoulder. Looking up Leon smiled down at me. His light brown hair was a bit shaggy. He had to be about Oliver's age twenty-four or so. He was handsome enough but a long jagged scar was across his face and neck. It started above his jaw and went to his collar bone.
"You alright there?" he questioned.
"Yeah. Oliver wants you and me to head up and see him tomorrow at one," I told him sadly. "We got to talk about funeral arrangements. He needs to know who all..."
Leon nodded understanding me.
"So apparently you and me are in charge for the time being," I smiled. He leaned against the window seal and nodded.
"Am I scary? Oliver said some of the boys are scared of me."
"You can be," Marcus replied with a shrug. Matt nodded in agreement then yawned leaning back in his chair against the wall. They had not left the hospital since we got here, but that was because I hadn't either. I wasn't about to leave Jet's side.
"When you're angry you have a look about you that is very much like Oliver's. So of course we jump to attention. One because Oliver would knock our heads together and two...you might knock our heads together," Marcus smiled showing off his bright teeth.
His skin was dark and his hair even darker, he had t
o be from down south, Mexico or some part of South America. I couldn't place his accent though.
As for Matt he was just adorable. With a baby face, blonde hair, and blue eyes I'm sure it was not hard for him to pick up girls. However, he was very reserved and distant. Perhaps he was just quiet and shy like Tyler.
"I wouldn't knock anyone's head together," I laughed.
"You're too sweet for that," Leon added.
I puffed out my cheeks. "I'm not sweet."
"Yes, you are, and stubborn as a mule."
My eyes widened as I heard Jet's voice. Spinning around quickly I bite back a gasp of pain. Jet's eyes were open or at least his good eye was. The other was swollen the size of a golf ball.
"Jet!" I squealed.
"Dear lord don't jump on me," he cringed.
I laughed shaking my head. "I won't."
Leaning over I kissed his cheek.
"When you're not so hurt I might do that for scaring the hell out of me, though."
He gave a weak grin. "I wouldn't expect anything less from you."
"I'll go get a nurse," Marcus said standing up.
Jet groaned. "She'll drug me all up again. I could hear you guys talking but I couldn't do anything about it."
"Well, she needs to come check you out," I frowned at Jet and ushered Marcus to go get the nurse.
"Enjoying your leadership role are you?" Jet questioned raising an eyebrow at me. "You never were good with taking orders."
"Pshh...I've been in charge since I first got here and you know it. Oliver just won't admit it."
Jet smiled softly. "So who's not in jail?"
"Only about ten or so who got away, I told them to stay out of sight for a while," Leon spoke stepping up to my side resting his hand on the back of my chair.
Jet nodded as the door opened and a small mousy type woman stepped into the room going to Jet without a word. Marcus stayed by the door leaning against the frame.
She started checking his vitals and his blood pressure, heart rate then she pulled the sheets back to show his legs. They had thick white casts from high above his knees to his feet. Only his toes were showing.
The nurse took a pen out and ran it over his toes looking at him.
"Do you feel that?"
Jet was silent a moment then shook his head, no.
Looking down at my lap my eyes begin to water.
"Give me and Ever a minute," Jet told everyone in the room.
The boys and the nurse left. I knew that the three boys wouldn't go far.
"Ever, come here," Jet told me scooting over on his bed. He winced but made space for me to sit on the edge. I did and he took my good hand.
"I know you. I know you are blaming yourself...for everything, for Kimmy and Alex, me, all the boys from the gang that died. But, you can't. There are things in life that happen and feeling guilty about them isn't going to help it. None of this is your fault. You did what you thought was right for Kimmy, and me. You are too nice for your own good."
Wiping my eyes I nodded. "Oliver has told me that too."
"He's right. You do what you think is right even if it puts you in danger. You cannot do that. Like at the junkyard. I told you to go, and you didn't."
"But, Jet I cou-"
He held up his hand. "I know...I know."
He squeezed my hand. "You love everyone and want to take care of everyone but you can't. Sometimes you just got to step back and let others deal with things."
"Like...how? What do you mean?" I questioned confused.
"Well when Eien told you Jason had me you shouldn't have gone with him."
"Jet...I didn't. I mean I wanted to help you but I knew Jason wasn't going to let you go. Eien shoved a knife into my side. He told me if I screamed that he'd puncture my lung. I tried to fight him but..." I looked down at my hand and waved it at him. “He broke my wrist.”
Jet looked shocked. "Eien did all this?" He asked looking at my hand.
I nodded. "Jason only slapped me. That's all he did. Eien was the one who seriously hurt me."
Jet turned away from me pressing his lips into a firm line, and clinched his fists.
"What's wrong?"
I mean he knew Eien was with Jason and he was bad. Why did Eien hurting me shock him so much?
"Leon!" Jet called.
A second later Leon's head popped into the door. Jet motioned for him to come in.
"What's up?"
"When Ever left the room to get a soda earlier and you were talking to Marcus you were talking about Eien. He got away didn't he?"
"Wait what?" I asked my mouth dropping open. I turned to look at Leon.
"How? You were like out."
"I told you I've been hearing you guys talk and just couldn't move," Jet rolled his eyes.
"Well," Leon scratched the back of his head in a very Oliver like fashion. "Yeah, Eien took off. I actually saw him bail before the fighting really got started."
"What?" I jumped up. "Eien took off?"
"Like at the tournament," Jet nodded. "It's not a surprised. Eien's a damn coward. He always bails when things get bad. He's always done that, that's why him hurting you is just a shock," Jet shook his head.
"Eien hurt you," Leon asked confused now.
"He's the one who broke my wrist and stabbed me in the side."
Leon gave a look that made me want to laugh. It was shock, but he popped his shoulders back in way that made it seem the information had like hit him in the chest. What kind of reaction is that?
"Errr...I've never really heard of Eien getting into a fight really with anyone. I mean he pushes people around and talks shit but never actually does anything."
"Then why did Oliver have him live with you guys?" I questioned Jet. "Doesn't Oliver only surround himself with the best?"
Jet laughed. "He told you that?"
I nodded rolling my eyes.
"Well we've known Eien for a long time. Mostly we live with Oliver because we have all been friends for so long. We're more like brothers. That's why Eien betraying us hurt so much. I mean he has a way about him that can be very dick headish but...he was our friend," Jet shrugged.
"How long have you been with the gang Leon?"
"Like four years," he replied sitting on the end of Jet's bed.
"Yeah and I bet you just love that you're in charge right now, huh?" Jet added with a smirk.
"I'm not in charge, Ever is. I'm her second in command," he grinned.
The three of us started laughing at that.
"Hey?" Marcus called from the door. We looked up at him.
"Matt and I are going to go getting something to eat. That cool?"
Marcus was mostly looking at me which gave me a sense of pride. I was in charge of the gang right now just because I was with Oliver. I liked that. Everlyn Fox, gang leader of the Shadow Stalkers. That has a nice ring to it.
"Yeah," I nodded.
"Now I think she just needs to get the ink," Leon barked out a laugh.
I whipped my head to look at him. Ink! I'm not getting the bat tattoo!
Chapter Twenty-Five
I had never seen a prison up close before, so I had definitely never been inside of on. But, Carson County Jail was everything that embodied a prison to me, high fences, scary guards and creepy people.
Leon was right by my
side as we entered the main gates. As soon as we told the grumpy balding guard who we were, his scrunched up annoyed look slide off his face.
"This way," he said very professionally having some iron barred doors open we entered a long hall.
No search of our person? I mean I didn't have anything on me but Leon I knew had to have a knife or something on him. Maybe it was because of who Oliver was. If he could get the guards to let people in for him like this why couldn't he get out?
Coming to stop at another barred door the guard looked up at a camera mounted on the wall and the door slide open to another hall. Walking a short distance we came to a door. Opening it for us the guard turned and walked away. He wasn't even going to supervise our conversation?
Oliver was sitting on a bench at a table. His head rose slowly and his eyes met mine. He smiled softly before letting them travel over the rest of my body pausing on my cast, then he stood up. The orange pants he had on were hideous, and he wore just a simple white tee.
Stepping around the table he wrapped his arms around me and covered my mouth with his instantly. The kiss was so passionate and longing. Dropping my purse to the floor I wrapped my arms around his neck I let him just hold me.
After a minute Leon cleared his throat and we pulled apart. Kissing my forehead Oliver pulled me into his lap and sat back down on the bench. Leon took the seat across from us sitting my purse on the table.
"Leon," Oliver greeted fist bumping with him.
"Everything going ok with the gang? Do you know whose out?"
"Yeah quite a few are out. Yesterday I had some bailed out after they seen the judge and crap, probably about twenty or so. Some of the guys who got out of the yard before the cops showed up are in hiding."
"Alex and Kimmy are in the city. Some police came looking for Alex so he decided to take off, I told Kimmy to go with him," I told Oliver running my fingers over the bandage on his arm. I wonder what happened.
