When Sam awoke the next day, George was already up and gone. There was a note on the pillow next to her. It read : I have recruited the help of some friends to help me get my stuff. We will be back around noon with it all. Sam looked at the clock. It was only 9 am. She had to wait an entire three hours before she could see him. She felt anxious.

Sam started going through her closet, packing whatever she had not worn in the past year into a box to donate to Goodwill. When she was done she had freed up a quarter of her closet for George to hang his clothes in. Sam went into the bathroom, cleaning out any out of date over the counter medicines, and trying desperately to consolidate her collection of appliances. She could not believe that she had so many hair straighteners, hair dryers, and curling irons. By the time she had finished clearing out what space she could, it was 11:30. She called and ordered 10 extra-large pizzas to be delivered by noon. She figured it was the least she could do.

The guys arrived at the same time as the pizza delivery guy had. Sam paid for the pizzas and quickly went into the kitchen to grab some beers and paper plates. When she returned to the living room, they were relaxing. She smiled at them, surprised to see that George had asked all of her guy friends to help. Even Max had come to help.

“I hope you guys are hungry. I have pizza and cold beer all ready for you.”

“That sounds amazing Sam!” Max said obviously famished.

“Definitely.” Tj said as they all got up to grab pizza.

Sam stepped back to let the men eat first. By the time they were done, only a single pizza remained. It was her favorite, cheese. She ate a few slices and stuck the remainder in the refrigerator to eat later. The guys had all of Georges stuff piled into the living room within an hour. They all said goodbye as they headed out, not wanting to help unpack everything. George and Sam stared at the pile of boxes that now filled the living room.

“Shall we get started?” Sam asked laughing at the expression on his face.

“I suppose so.” He said grimacing.

Sam had started by sorting out the boxes according to how they were labeled, hoping to make the process less painful. George had taken the bedroom boxes to unpack, while Sam had decided to start in the living room. She had successfully integrated his DVD collection, cd collection, and game systems into their proper spaces within a few hours. Sam was a stickler for perfection when it came to those things. George had finished shortly after she did. All that remained was a few boxes for the bathroom.

“I will finish those later.” George said.

“Fine with me. I am exhausted.” Sam said sinking into her couch.

“Me too. Do you feel like having a bonfire?” He asked as the idea sparked his own interest.

“Where?” She asked not wanting to go anywhere.

“In the courtyard.” He said as if was an obvious answer.

“Ok. I can do that.” Sam said smiling.

George walked out of the room and went outside to the courtyard. Sam could hear him chopping some of the wood that she usually had reserved for the wood stove when winter came. She did not mind. She grabbed a blanket from her quilt rack, and walked outside to help him. George already had a decent fire going when she finally walked outside. He patted the cushion of the wooden swing, waiting for her to join him.

“It is gorgeous out tonight.” Sam said looking up to where the stars were just starting to come out.

“It is. You are more so.” George said as he pulled her close.

“Thanks.” Sam replied shyly.

“I feel like the stars have finally aligned in our favor.” George said.

“I agree.” Sam said with a smile as she turned her body to face him. “You know what?”

“What?” He said as he leaned down to kiss her.

“I am glad that we finally got it right.” She said as they kissed for the first time in
their
home.
