The week flew by. Everyone started arriving on Friday after work. They had a full house. Everyone would be sleeping at the ranch house.
Amanda smiled and kissed David. She would be spending the night with the ladies in the little cottage on the ranch. He walked her down with the rest of the men. She smiled and kissed him.
“See you in church.” Amanda hugged him.
“My angel I will be there.” She nodded and smiled. He smiled as he walked back to the house. The ladies were all soon tucked up in bed. They didn’t get to see the men until they were ready. Slowly the ladies left Amanda. She stood on her own and looked in the mirror. She looked beautiful. Don walked through.
“Are you ready? Gosh! You look absolutely beautiful!”
“Oh Dad I am so nervous. I have knots in my stomach. Everyone is going to be there.”
“And that is exactly how David feels. Don’t run off now.” She chuckled and shook her head.
David stood
in the front of the church. The church was packed. Charles smiled and held his hand in his pocket.
“The time has come. Big brother.” David smiled.
“I have waited a long time for this Charles. So many years wasted. I wish I had met Amanda years back. So that she could have enjoyed Victoria as much as I have.”
“Well you might have your own little one some time soon.”
“We haven’t even discussed that. But it would be nice.” Charles smiled.
“That department is sorted.”
“I am glad. Can you see anything?”
“She has just arrived. I heard the van.” David smiled and nodded.
The music started up and David turned. Amanda walked down the aisle. She looked beautiful. David whispered.
“This was my dream. This is what I dreamt. She is going to stop and lift her dress. Then she is going to stop again. Victoria is going to fix something on her skirt.”
“You had a dream?”
“Yes. Years and years ago. Even before Victoria was born. I had the same dream over and over again.” Charles stared as she stopped and lifted her dress. She walked a little and stopped and Victoria took a petal from her dress.
“Charles this is the woman for me. My dream come true.” Charles smiled. Amanda walked up to David.
“My darling.” She smiled as he held her hand. It was very quiet in the church as they said their wedding vows. Amanda looked at her ring. She looked at David. She slipped his ring on his finger and she looked at David. He had huge tears in his eyes. The pastor smiled as David kissed his bride. He held on to Amanda.
“I have to tell you something. Something you won’t believe. But later.” She smiled and nodded.
They walked out of the church smiling. The church had suddenly become so rowdy. David smiled as they were driven to the ranch
. The family went for their photographs down by the stream and then they hopped back in to the vans and drove back to the shed.
“I have to tell you something.” Amanda nodded.
“I was about sixteen and I had this dream. It was so real. I dreamt I was standing watching. And I saw a woman in white. I saw a young girl. The woman walked down the aisle and stopped and lifted her dress. She walked on and stopped and the young girl took something from her dress and they carried on walking. I had the dream a couple of times. It was always a repeat and I could never understand why. I dreamt of today Amanda. You are the woman for me. I dreamt about you and Victoria. It was so strange today when I watched you. Because I knew what was going to happen. It was my dream come true.”
Amanda stared at David and he nodded.
“Oh dreams do come true!” He hugged Amanda.
“I love you.”
“I love you.”
“Mrs. MacGuire.” Amanda smiled and looked at David.
“I love that.”
“So do I.” They both smiled as they pulled up to the shed. The van was parked and David helped Amanda out of the van. She stepped on to a red carpet. She smiled as they walked through. Everyone stood and clapped as they walked through the door. David looked around. Every ranch hand was there. Every single person they knew was seated. He looked at Amanda.
“What a special day.” She smiled and nodded. They walked through to their table and took a seat. Victoria got up and hugged and kissed David and Amanda.
“Now can I?” Amanda hugged her.
“Yes you can.”
“Thanks Mom.” Amanda kissed her.
Everyone had their turn to say their speeches. David eventually stood up.
“I didn’t think dreams came true. But they really do. There are so many of you that I need to thank. We know who you are.” Jo-Beth roared with laughter.
“Folks. Thank you for being here today. This truly is the most important day of my life. My beautiful wife Amanda. Who I love and adore. Thank you for not high tailing it today.” Amanda chuckled.
“Folks. Enjoy the meal. The lights go out when the last person leaves.” He sat down and hugged Amanda.
“Oh David.” Everyone stood up. They held their glasses in the air.
“To the bride and groom. Mister and Doctor David MacGuire.” David smiled as they raised their glasses and sipped.
It was early in the morning when they walked over to the house and hopped in to bed. David made sure he carried his bride over the threshold and all the way up the stairs to their bedroom. He stood her on the bed.
“David!” He grinned.
“I felt something other than a garter.”
“Yes I felt that hand go right up to my bottom.” David chuckled. He ran his hand up her leg and smiled.
“Stockings!” Amanda giggled as he helped her from the bed. They slowly undressed each other. The stockings stayed on as long as possible. They were soon making love. They fell asleep from sheer exhaustion.
David woke up early and quickly put his shorts and T-shirt on. Amanda stretched and smiled. She put her hands under the pillow and felt for her pajamas. She didn’t even open her eyes. She slipped them over her head.
“Back to front.” She took them off and put them on again.
“Perfect.” Amanda smiled and opened her eyes.
“What day is it?”
“Sunday. Mrs. Dudley insisted that she would be catering this morning.” Amanda chuckled.
“Catering. It is rather. Isn’t it?” David smiled and nodded. Amanda looked at David and smiled.
“David yesterday was absolutely beautiful. Do you think they liked what we chose for them all
as a gift?”
“I think the ladies will be over the moon. And the men too. You mean the people that arranged everything?” Amanda nodded.
“Yes I think they will be impressed.”
“And the gifts for our guests?”
“I think they loved them. They didn’t expect to be going home with something.” Amanda smiled and nodded.
Victoria
and Nicola knocked and walked in with their coffee. They each carried a tray.
“Oh wow!” Victoria smiled.
“Breakfast in bed for the newlyweds.” David chuckled as they both moved up and took their trays. The girls both sat down.
“Are you eating?”
“We already swam and ate.” David smiled.
“How awesome was yesterday!” David nodded and looked at Victoria.
“I slept with my piece of cake under my pillow.” Nicola nodded.
“So did I.” Amanda smiled.
“I devoured mine.” David gurgled with laughter.
“So did I. I hope we can scrounge a few more of those from somewhere.” Victoria smiled and nodded.
“Mrs. Dudley has a whole box hidden. And the rest of the cake is standing in the kitchen.
“So much cake. And we ate so much.”
“That cake is beautiful.” They all nodded.
“Is everyone up already?”
“No. Only us and Uncle Charles and Uncle Sydney. They came for a swim with us.”
“Have they eaten breakfast?” Victoria nodded.
“We had our breakfast with them. I think they went back to bed.” David roared with laughter and Amanda giggled.
“Typical.” The girls got up.
“Dressing. Have you seen all those gifts under the Christmas tree? They seem to have multiplied.”
“Father Christmas better be very careful coming down that chimney. He will burn his bum.”
Victoria chuckled.
“And no snooping under there.” David smiled and nodded.
“Have we got everything for Christmas?” They all nodded.
“Gifts for everyone. I made very sure. The meat and everything.” David smiled and pulled Amanda in to his arm. He kissed her on the head.
“If we are missing something I am sure someone will remember it.”
“I have checked and double checked. I have to make notes these days. I just can’t remember. Sometimes I put something down and when I come for it I have put it somewhere else.”
“Oh we know. We have to keep hunting for the bowls of nuts.” Amanda chuckled.
“I love those nuts. Whoever sat and cracked them thank you.” Nicola chuckled and nodded.
“We did.”
“Very thoughtful. Have we still got any left?” David nodded.
“More than enough. Melody loves the walnuts.” Amanda chuckled.
“Can’t wait for Christmas. She is going to love her jacket.” David smiled and nodded.
The family all got up. David and Amanda
got dressed and walked through to the boot room and sat down and had another cup of coffee. Amanda looked around and smiled.
“I love this room. The heat from the fire comes right through here. But the sun always shines through. It is like a little warm conservatory.”
“I love this suite. It was the first thing I bought. You would have laughed. I bought the house. It was empty. So I loaned a set of bunk beds from my friend Curtis. His girls each had bunk beds. So I got the set from him. Victoria and I each had a bed. Then I bought the lounge suite. I eventually went and bought my double bed. But Curtis’ wife didn’t want the bunk beds back. Their girls wanted proper bedroom suites. So their beds were donated to me. I suddenly had the two sets of bunk beds and my double bed. I was so proud of my beds.” Amanda smiled and looked at David.
“And we are not parting with any of those. The men will be overjoyed.” David chuckled.
“That is five extra beds.”
“Which will come in very handy.” They both looked up as Melody came to the little cage door. Amanda chuckled as David got up and opened the cage. She hopped in to his shirt.
“She is very bouncy these days.” He sat down again with Melody in his shirt. He rubbed up and down.
Charles and Penny walked through
and sat down.
“And how are we feeling this morning?” David and Amanda both nodded and smiled.
“Great!”
“Well I am glad you invited us to sleep over. I have something I would like to show you.” Penny took the quilt out of the packet.
“Oh Penny!” Penny chuckled as she stood up with Charles and he held one side.
“That is.”
“Beautiful! And I want it!” Olive walked over to the quilt.
“How much Penny?” Penny gave the price and Olive nodded.
“Done.” She walked out and fetched her purse and walked back to Penny and handed over the cash. Penny looked at the cash in her hand.
“Really?” Olive nodded. Charles folded the quilt and put it back in the packet and handed it to Olive. Olive smiled as she put her hand in the packet and felt the quilt.
“Beautiful!”
“And it didn’t even get to the shop.” Penny chuckled.
“We have been to the shop. We bought each of ourselves a pair of walking shorts. They are really smart.” David chuckled and nodded.
“I live in mine.” Amanda smiled and nodded. She remembered the day she had given them to David. He smiled and pulled her closer for a hug.
“Oh dear. Your stomach is moving David.” David smiled and took Melody from his shirt and put her under her little blanket in the cage. He sat down again.
David got up.
“Hold on just one sec.” He got up and opened the cage and lifted the blanket.
“Oh Melody.”
“What David?” Amanda got up and looked.
“Oh David!” Everyone took a little peek.
“Melody has a tune.” Amanda smiled as she looked at the tiniest little Bush Baby she had ever seen.
“Oh we are blessed. Isn’t it gorgeous.” Amanda covered the little ones up and closed the cage. David smiled as she sat down.
He pulled her on to his lap. Everyone got up.
“We are out. The girls have invited us out on a four wheeler ride.” David chuckled and nodded as they all walked out. David looked at Amanda.
“When are we going to start working on our own little tune?” Amanda smiled.
“Keep me singing.” David roared with laughter.
“Oh I will. I think the different tunes every now and then.” Amanda giggled.
“Liked the counter.”
“Now that was a song!”
