The RV took up most of the club’s parking lot. Turner put his arm around my shoulders as soon as we stepped down.
Salina and Red met us first. “Sorry Turner, but you go in alone.” Salina informed him.
He shook his head and pulled me tighter.
“Not my rule to break big guy. I can send Red in to get Joe if you’d like.” She threatened.
I knew Turner wouldn’t want to escalate this already bad situation, but also won’t let go. I looked up for him, “It’s okay, I’ll be right here.” I promised.
He shook his head again and walked past the girls with me in a firm grip under that heavy arm. The arm that is now tight with tension.
Joe stood at the doorway, “She waits out here bro.”
Turner shook his head.
“I know man, believe me, I know. Play by the rules and it’ll work out. Nobody wants to take your old lady away.” He tried to sound assuring. Joe has changed a lot since he’s been back. I’m guessing Red has something to do with that.
He still shook his head and tried to push past Joe, who is almost as big as Turner. This could get ugly.
I Took Turner’s hand and removed it from my shoulder, “Go baby. I’ll be right here outside this door when you’re done.” I promised.
He growled at me and warned me with his eyes and his finger under my chin.
“Don’t worry, I’ll talk to the girls, you talk to the guys, and then we’ll head over to my father’s.”
“He’s already here Georgia.” Joe informed me. “Let’s go Turner. Cord is here too, so don’t let this get ugly.”
“Who’s Cord?” I asked Joe.
I didn’t get my answer because Slider swung open the door, looked at Turner and waved him inside, “Let’s go. I don’t have all day for my brother’s drama.” He sounds annoyed, great.
I dropped to my knees as they slammed the door behind them.
Salina and Red tried to pull me up but I pushed them away, “No!! I told him I’d be here when he gets out, and I will!!”
Red sat down next to me and lit a joint. “Then we’ll sit with you.” She handed it to me.
I took it and looked at Salina. My eyes filled up at her mothering stern expression. “I’m sorry.”
She hugged me with one arm around my shoulders as she sat. “It’s okay honey. Slider is nothing if not fair. He won’t do anything undeserved.”
“That’s what I’m afraid of.”
After what seemed like a lifetime the door opened and my husb…man’s big boot came into view under me. I couldn’t move. I was struck frozen with fear.
He bent his knees and lifted my chin. A tear rolled down my cheek as he pulled me up to stand under him. I swallowed afraid to breathe.
He shrugged his cut off and quickly draped it over my shoulders.
“NO!!!” I panicked.
He put his finger to my lips silencing me. Then he pointed to the RV for me to go.
“No. Don’t make me, please.” I almost said ‘sir’, but it didn’t apply here, nor would it help his cause.
He nodded and leaned down like he was going to kiss me.
Joe, Goat, Gunner, and Cord pulled him away. Salina told me earlier Cord was the Montana brother with a whole set of problems. I don’t remember what they are, but the word lesbian stuck out. That will be a good story for later. Right now I want to know where my…man is.
I was able to break free of Salina and Red enough to run over to the ring. The ring. They’re going to beat him, like they think he beats me. I can’t change this. I can’t scream, I can’t argue, I can’t do shit. Once the club has made a decision, it’s done. It’s part of the code.
I stood on the south side of the ring and put my forehead on the mat. I closed my eyes as fists pounded and men said things I don’t want to know. Red and Salina stood to either side of me and tried to tell me Turner was fine.
Maybe he was, but they’d fuck him up good for this. For hurting me.
I looked up finally. He’s not even fighting back.
“Joe!!!” I yelled.
He looked at me and stood upright, “Come here.”
I jumped in the ring and faced him, waiting.
He took my shoulders and turned me to face my very bloody man. “Can you control him?” He asked.
I nodded knowing Turner can see me if I verbally reply. I’m not supposed to speak to anyone.
“Tell me now.” He ordered.
I nodded, “Yes, I love him, I can handle him.” I vowed and this will be the only wedding vow I really need to take with this man.
Turner closed his eyes and dropped to the ground. Goat and Joe carried him to the back bedroom of our RV.
Slider caught me just outside the door as they took Turner inside, “You ever show up with so much as a hickey in my territory and I’ll strip his patch.”
I nodded, “Yes sir. I won’t, I promise.”
He had already turned away taking Salina with him.
Red stepped up to me, “Joe wasn’t easy either, but he’s a good man. Slider wouldn’t have let him off this easy if he didn’t believe the same of Turner.”
“He looks bad.”
She nodded, “He’ll be fine. Keep him still for the broken ribs. I’ll text you some further instructions. Go baby, before Gunner forgets his manners.” She winked and held the door for me.
I looked back, “Thank you.”
“Go!!” She shut the door. Gunner was heading towards us. As cruel as he is, he wanted to kill Turner for hurting me. Gunner is crazy, and violent in an understatement, unless it comes to women.
Gunner covets women, and takes more than a personal interest in Stacy’s girls. Nobody really knows Gunner’s story, maybe the guys do, but I haven’t met anyone yet who was willing to ask him or anyone else about his past.
I drove about twenty minutes until I remembered Daisy. I looked up like an idiot, “Daisy? You there?”
“Always Miss, and I’m in the floor.” She reminded me.
“Yeah, but you’re kind of better than the floor, so if you don’t mind I’ll continue to look up to you. Can you do some kind of scan on Turner? Tell me if he’s okay?”
“Three broken ribs and a mild fracture to his fibula, although that’s been there for six months.”
“The fracture? How did he get it?”
“I wasn’t there Miss. Would you like me to drive?”
“YES!! Thank you!”
“Resuming control now. I have enough power for a good seventeen hours.”
I stood up looking back once to make sure we’re still between the yellow and white lines on the road. “I think you and I are going to get along just fine Daisy.”
“I hope so, he’s an ass.” She hit the gas and I laughed. I think Daisy is mad at Turner. I’ll have to sake her later exactly why. Not that she doesn’t have plenty of reasons, but I’m curious what could make a computer mad at him.
Turner is on his back looking like hamburger. I started with his boots very gently.
He groaned, “Leave me.”
“Never. You took the beating, you can take the pampering.” I told him going for the second boot.
“My cut.” He mumbled.
“On my back at the moment. You’re still a member baby.”
He groaned, “I know that. Fuck.” He complained trying to move.
“Sit still. Turner, stop, please.” I begged as he tried to sit up.
“We have to get out of here.”
“We are getting out of here. Daisy is driving, please lay back baby.”
“Fuck.” He fell back. “That was the best ass kicking I’ve ever had.”
I laughed, “Are you kidding me?? You liked that?”
“Oh God yes. Only Joe and Goat can deliver. Finally.” He whispered and passed out cold.
I sat up and started crying uncontrollably. What in the world could make this man enjoy such a beating? Does he really hate himself that much? Yeah. He does.
I watched him for a minute. Poor baby. He almost looks sweet when he sleeps. Don’t be fooled, one flinch and he’d have me under him with dark blue eyes and a mission. I doubt three broken ribs could stop him from taking me if he really wanted.
I quietly got up and closed the door to find the panel under the table. “Daisy?”
“Yes Miss?” She dutifully replied.
“Is he okay? Or should I take him to the hospital?”
“He’ll be fine Miss, let him sleep it off. Where would you like to go?”
“Let’s go home. I think he needs a time out where he feels safe.”
“What about your father?” She asked softly.
“You listen in?”
“Yes Miss.”
“I’ll call him now. Turner needs to go home.”
“Agreed. Setting course now. You should get some rest too.”
I looked down at my jacket and felt my ass hit the floor. “He took that beating for me.”
“There’s wine behind you Miss, I’d pour if I could.”
I buried my face in my palms. “I can’t keep up with this kind of love.”
“There’s an incoming call Miss.”
I sniffled and looked up, “Who is it?”
“It’s Salina baby girl. You okay?” She sounded like she was hiding.
“Yes, I’m fine. Turner is a little worse off, but he’s okay.” I felt like I was scrambling.
“Good. Listen, Gunner is the only one taking this harder than he should. Do me a favor and lay low for a while. Slider said he was proud of you.” She added lovingly.
“I’m taking him home to Colorado for a while. I can’t think beyond that at the moment.”
“I know sweetheart. Just breathe, right now, let me hear it.” She encouraged making me smile.
I inhaled and let it out slow, “Okay. I can do this.”
She laughed, “Of course you can. You won the heart of a Colson, if you think this is all you’re in for, you’re sadly mistaken. Take care of him. From what Slider said Turner pretty much told them to kill him.”
“What??”
“Yeah. I guess Slider told him to let you go. Turner said over his dead body. Joe suggested the ring. Pain for pain.” She informed me.
“Oh shit.”
“Yeah, so keep your man up in the woods for a while. We’ll call you if we need you.”
“Thank you Salina, and
“Don’t.” She interrupted. “You’re a sister now. Call me or Red if you need anything. You okay?”
I sighed feeling better, “I got my man back, I’ll be fine.”
“Slider will be able to sleep knowing you said that. You’re a good woman Georgia, even if you’re a few cards short of a full deck.”
“I love you too.” I hit the End button realizing for the first time what love really is. It’s big. Really big. And there’s different levels. So many layers. I think I get it now.
