Chapter 18

It had been a week since Gwen had
seen McKayla. While Gwen was slowly starting to feel better, she was still
quite weak and nauseated often but not half as often as she had been.

Gwen was going to attempt to return
to work for the first time in almost a month. She was surprised she still had a
job. Here she had just started and was already out for quite a while. However,
she had been trying to stay in contact with Coral Lyn, who was still making
progress on the designs.

Cole had already showered and left
for work for an early meeting so it was just Gwen at the apartment. She walked
into her closet after showering herself. She pulled out a pant suit that was
her most comfortable work outfit she owned. She pulled the pants off the hanger
and pulled them on over a pair of black satin panties. As she went to button
them, she couldn’t even pull them closed. Not even close to being able to
button them.

“What the hell?” Gwen said looking
down. She turned and looked in the full length mirror. She looked a bit
bloated, but she figured that was just from her lack of eating normal food and
drinking all these high nutrition drinks. She had been living in sweat pants
and jammies the last few weeks since she got sick.

The talk with the doctor flashed
through her mind. Dr. Pau saying that she could be pregnant. “Not possible.”
Gwen said out loud as she stared in the mirror. She took off the pants and
pulled on a sundress that was loose around her waist. Her breast hadn’t gotten
any bigger or more tender. She wasn’t overly emotional like most pregnant women
were. It’s just not possible. Plus, pregnancy doesn’t make you so extremely
exhausted, just nauseated.

Gwen decided she would just swing
by the store and pick up a pregnancy test so that she could prove to the doctor
and herself that she was indeed not pregnant. She quickly pulled her hair back
in a ponytail and slapped on a little eye makeup before heading for the door.
Just as she was about to open the front door, it swung inward. She jumped back
out of the way to avoid being hit.

“Oh, you are here. Well, I’m here
to get my things. I’m moving out.” McKayla didn’t even wait a beat. She simply
turned and headed down the hall.

“Wait, What?” Gwen couldn’t say
that she was fully surprised but she thought McKayla would give them more of a
chance to work things out.

“I told you. I’m done.” McKayla
spoke over her shoulder as she moved quickly through the hallways.

“Why? Why won’t you stop and talk
to me about this?” Gwen followed after her. Her heels clicking on the tile.

“Because. You so obviously don’t
even care about me anymore.” McKayla swung around to face her right in front of
the door to her room.

“How can you even say that? I’ve
called you numerous times every single day asking that you come back, that you
answer your phone so we can talk things through.” Gwen’s eyes filled with
tears.

“And yet, here you are all dolled
up, ready to go out, looking like nothing is bothering you at all.” McKayla
snapped at her. “You don’t want me around, you are just so used to me being
there. I’m tired of being the fall back plan. Now leave me alone so I can get
my shit or I’ll just leave and wait until you are gone to get my stuff.”

“McKayla, absolutely none of that
is true. I love you. I want you in my life. I didn’t bring Cole into our lives
to upset you. I don’t love him more than I love you. I don’t know how I can
prove that to you. Please, don’t leave. Please let me try to make you believe
that I love you just as much as I always have.” Gwen pleaded as McKayla grabbed
a suitcase from her closet, threw it on the bed and started throwing clothes
into it.

“Ok. You want me to stay with you?”
McKayla stopped and looked at Gwen.

“Absolutely. Tell me what I have to
do. I’ll do anything.” Gwen didn’t even have to think as the words left her
mouth. They were completely true.

“Leave Cole. Come back to the
apartment with me. Just us.” McKayla locked eyes with Gwen’s. Gwen broke the
eye contact.

“I can’t. Anything but that. You
know it’s true. We can make this work. Damn it! I love you. I love him. Why are
you making me choose? You are the one that said you were ok with this. You
encouraged this.” Gwen had tears falling fast down both cheeks. Her heart was
being torn from her chest.

“That was before you chose him over
me. Never did I think you would chose him over me. Not after everything we have
been through.” McKayla spat at Gwen. She was throwing everything she could in
the bag. She quickly zipped it up and walked past Gwen. “You did this. You are
the one that pushed me away. I hope you are happy.”

She roughly pushed past Gwen and
stormed down the hallway. Gwen was hit with nausea and raced to the bathroom,
barely making it before the tea she had drank early left her body, followed by
a stint of dry heaves that lasted so long she could no longer even sit on her
knees in front of the toilet. She fell back against the wall, head in her hands
as tears poured out of her eyes.

Gwen could hear her phone ringing
somewhere in the apartment. She didn’t even know where she had dropped her
purse in her pursue of McKayla. The ringing eventually stopped but then started
again. She took off her heels and threw them out the door yelling for the phone
to stop between sobs. She knew it wasn’t the one person she wanted it to be.
McKayla.

When the phone started up again,
she shoved to her feet angrily. “Whoever wants to call me so many damn times is
going to get an earful.” Gwen growled as she finally got to her feet but just
as quickly her world went back and she passed out.

When Gwen opened her eyes again,
she was looking at Alina’s worried face.

“Ms. Gwen, you scared me. You must
have passed out.” Alina said as she helped Gwen sit up.

“What happened?” Gwen rubbed the
back of her head where it was aching.

“I heard your phone keep ringing. I
thought you had gone to work after Ms. McKayla had left. Then I heard you shout
something at the phone and something hit the wall. More shouting and then a
very loud thump. I raced in here to find you lying on the ground.” Alina
quickly recalled what she’d heard.

“Shit. How long was I out for?”
Gwen rubbed her head. It hurt like hell.

“Only a few minutes. I did call Mr.
Cole. He is on his way here with a call in for Dr. Pau to come check on you as
well.” Alina shook her head when Gwen tried to get to her feet. “I think it
would be best if we wait for Mr. Cole to get here.”

“Oh, nonsense. I’m fine. I just
want to move to the bed.” Gwen shook her off and curled her legs to the side so
she could sit up on her knees. “I’m just upset after the fight with McKayla.
Really.”

“Ms. Gwen, please, I beg you to
wait until someone that can actually catch you if you fall again. I would try
but I know that I am not strong enough to catch you.” Alina spoke quickly. Gwen
slipped onto her butt again at those words.

“Fine. You win. Just because I
don’t want any more fighting.” Gwen sighed. She rested her back against the
wall. “Did he say how long he would be?”

“I’m right here.” Cole spoke before
Alina could say anything else. He moved in and scooped her up from the floor.
“Thank you, Alina. I will take it from here.” Cole turned and walked toward his
bedroom. “Now what the hell happened when I was at work? Apparently it was busy
here.”

Gwen took a deep breath and let it
out on a sigh. “Well, I was just leaving for work when McKayla showed up. Tore
through the house and my heart then left. I got sick and then passed out trying
to get to my damn phone that wouldn’t stop ringing.”

“Ok. Well, lets start with the
easy. Where is your phone? See who was repeatedly calling you.” Cole pushed
through the door of his room and sat Gwen up on his bed with her back against
the headboard.

“Sir, here is Ms. Gwen’s purse.”
Alina spoke from the doorway. “It was in Ms. McKayla’s… room. Um, old room.”

“Thank you.” Cole took the purse
from her before digging out Gwen’s phone. He hit the button on the bottom to
light up the screen, dropping the rest of the purse on the ground. There was
seven missed calls. All from the same number, an unknown number and three
voicemails. He looked up at Gwen. “What is your passcode?”

She told him and he entered it into
the phone. As he listened to the messages, his eyes bore into Gwen. After
listening to all three messages, he slipped the phone into his pant pocket.

“Who was it?” Gwen winced and
rubbed her head again.

“Don’t worry about it. Now lets
talk about McKayla.” Cole sat on the edge of the bed. He took one of Gwen’s
hands into both of his own. “I will speak with her if you’d like.”

“I don’t think that’d help. She
officially broke up with me and moved out. I don’t understand where this is all
coming from. I’m so frustrated and it’s like she just won’t listen to me.”
Gwen’s eyes filled with tears again. “I don’t know what to do without her in my
life. Not because it is so comfortable, but because she is my life. You and her
make up me. I am no one without the two of you here to give me a reason to be.
She asked me to leave you to be with just her. I can’t. Just like I can’t leave
her and be with just you. Maybe I’m just doomed to be miserable. Doomed to lose
one of you no matter what I do.”

“I won’t make you chose. If you
want to do everything you can to get her back in your life, I’m behind you all
the way. If you want to let go of me, I’ll do my best because it is what you
wish. But I can’t say that I won’t give one hell of a fight because I too love
you and need you in my life more than I need anything else.” Cole brushed the
tears from her cheeks with his fingers.

A knock sounded at the door, both
of them looked towards the door to see Alina with Dr. Pau.

“Please, come in.” Cole moved back
from Gwen. Then quickly moved closer, cupped her face and landed a hard kiss
against her lips. He then stepped back so the doctor had room to do as he
needed.

“I would like to take some blood
samples. I brought an aide with me that will get them down to the lab
immediately then we will have results within an hour. So let me start with the
blood samples and then I will do the rest of the exam, okay?” Dr. Pau spoke
direct and to the point, as usual.

“Do whatever you want.” Gwen rolled
her arm over for him and looked out the window on the other side of the room.

Chapter 19

Dr. Pau drew her blood and sent it
off with his assistant before doing a full check up on her. He asked Cole to
wait outside while he did the exam. As he pressed down on her stomach in
various spots asking her if it hurt, he stopped and looked at her.

“Well, I can tell you something I
don’t need blood work for.” Dr. Pau pressed gently again on her stomach.

“And that would be?” Gwen had an
idea of what he was going to say based on where his hands were, but she needed
to hear him say it.

“You are pregnant. We will get the
results of the blood work soon enough and be able to guess about how many
weeks. I would like to get an ultrasound appointment scheduled and you will
need to go in to see your Gynecologist for further care.” Dr. Pau forced a
smile. “Unless we need to talk about other options.”

“NO.” Gwen spoke harsher than she
intended. While she didn’t know what she was going to do or how she was going
to handle the pregnancy, she would never terminate a pregnancy. No, that would
not be the way she would handle this. “No. I will get in to see my doctor.”

“Based on the size of your uterus,
I am going to say you are quite far along in the pregnancy. Which doesn’t
exactly consist with the symptoms you are having. But that is why it is all the
more important that you immediately get to your doctor for an ultrasound to
make sure everything is ok.” Dr. Pau spoke softly, patting her hand, “Now, I am
not a liberty to discuss this with anyone so it will be up to you to break the
news, unless you would rather I do it.”

“I will do it. I just need a
moment.” Gwen sat stunned. The word pregnant just bounced around her head.

“I will step out. We are still
waiting for the blood results anyway.” Dr. Pau stepped from the room.

Gwen sat there with a hand on her
belly. It wasn’t much larger than normal, but she supposed now that she knew,
she could see a little pouch that wasn’t normally there.

A baby. There was a baby in her
belly. Cole’s baby. It had to be. There was no other man she had been with.
They hadn’t been using protection. She didn’t think they’d needed to. What
would Cole say when he found out? She had promised him multiple times that she
couldn’t get pregnant.

How had this happened? Gwen was so
confused and frightened. She had just lost McKayla from her life, would she be
losing Cole as well with this news?

She couldn’t hide it. She was
already starting to show, it wouldn’t take long before she couldn’t hide it.
And then she’d have to explain why she hid it.

There was a knock on the slightly
open door again. Gwen looked up to see Cole looking at her. She quickly pulled
her hand from her belly and told him to come in.

“How are you?” Cole sat next to her
on the bed, rubbing his hand up and down her thigh.

“He said my head is probably just a
little bump, he doesn’t think I hit it hard enough to get a concussion or
anything serious.” Gwen swallowed hard.

“Well, that’s good then. Is that
all? He told me he was waiting for the blood work results and would discuss
them with you before he left.”

“Well, there is one other thing.”
Gwen swallowed hard again. A knock on the door interrupted her before she could
continue.

“I have the results.” Dr. Pau held
up a couple sheets of paper.

Cole left so the doctor could give
her the results. Dr. Pau said everything looked fine. Except she looked to be a
bit anemic and of course, pregnant. From the blood test, he said it appeared
that she was anywhere from eight to sixteen weeks pregnant. She would need an
ultrasound to get more specific timing.

Cole returned to her side after
seeing the doctor out. Gwen looked at him so handsome still in his business
suit. He hadn’t even taken off his coat, obviously distracted since that was
normally the first thing he did when he got home.

“So, what else is going on? Did the
blood work say anything useful?” Cole rubbed her thigh again.

“Just that I’m anemic and need to
take some iron.” Gwen could barely breathe, but she had to do it. “And, Cole,
I’m pregnant.”

“You are what?” Cole looked at her,
shock apparent on every part of his face. “I didn’t think you could get
pregnant.”

“It shouldn’t have been possible.
But somehow it happened.” Gwen’s hands were clammy. She bit down on her bottom
lip as fear ratcheted up her heart rate.

Cole stood and walked to the
closet. He returned without his coat and tie. He was scratching his head as he
walked towards the bathroom.

“Cole?” Gwen spoke softly, looking
down at her lap. She picked at the hem of her dress.

“Yes?” Cole’s voice carried from
the bathroom.

“I’m sorry.” Gwen wiped away the
silent tears that were rolling down her cheeks. “I didn’t mean for it to
happen.”

Cole walked over and placed a
finger under her chin, lifting her head so he could look in her eyes. “I’m not.
I’m surprised. I’m thrilled that you are carrying a baby I never thought I
would have. I had told myself that I’d be happy to never have children because
you couldn’t. That was about the last thing I expected you to say. I was
getting ready to crawl here in this bed and cuddle to the mother of my child.”

Gwen only let out a loud sob. She
quickly moved to kneel on the bed and wrap her arms around his neck tightly as
she cried into this shoulder. “I love you.”

“I love you too. I love this baby.
I can’t wait to start making preparations for it.” Cole kissed the side of her
face.

When Gwen raised her tear filled
eyes to meet his, he lowered his head to softly press a kiss to her lips. He
wiped away her tears with his thumbs before kissing up the tracks where they’d
been.

“Make love to me, Cole.” Gwen
whispered into his ear. Cole leaned back and looked down at her for a moment
before stepping out of his shoes. He moved back from the bed and quickly
unbuttoned his shirt and pulled it off, followed by his socks and pants.

Gwen pulled her dress over her head
and lay back on the bed in just her satin panties and bra. Cole crawled onto
the bed next to her in just his boxer briefs. He softly trailed his finger
across her forehead, down her nose, over her cheekbone before sinking his whole
hand into her hair and leaning down to press his lips to her hot needy lips.
Her lips separated, welcoming his warm tongue to her mouth. As their tongues
touched and slipped around each other, his hand continued down her body. Across
her collarbone, over the side of her breast before coming to rest lightly
against her lower belly.

Breaking the kiss, Cole kissed down
the soft, fragrant skin of her neck. His kisses followed a similar path as his
hand, to stop at her small belly. He pressed a kiss there, while his hands
rested on either side of her waist, framing where the small baby would be. He
rested his face against her belly for a moment longer before kissing back up
the center of her body. This time his body was on top of hers, instead of next
to her. He cupped her face in his hands and once again brought his lips to
hers.

Gwen let her fingers dance down his
back while they kissed until they found the band of his underwear. She slipped
her fingers under them and pushed them down as far as she could. Cole took the
message and wiggled them off. He slipped his hands behind Gwen’s back and
easily unclasped her bra before drawing the straps down her arms and flinging
it from the bed.

Moving to suck and nuzzle her bare
breast, his hands found her panties. Following her lead, he pushed them over
her hips and down as far as he could, where she could get them off herself.
Finally, they were both completely bare and exposed.

Unexpectedly, Cole rolled off her.
Before Gwen could say anything, he slipped his arm under her and rolled her
onto of him. Gwen rested her hands on his chest as she sat up. She positioned
herself over him and sank slowly down onto his erection. She was so ready for
him, he slipped in deep right away. She threw her head back and moaned at the
deep penetration. Her fingers digging into his chest slightly.

She slid her hands down his arms
until she found his hands, where she threaded both her hands with his. She held
his hands tightly as she slowly rocked over him.

“Damn, you are so freaking
beautiful. Especially when you are on top and I get to see those perfect tits.”
Cole spoke as his hips pressed up against her in rhythm with her slow rise and
fall on him. Gwen let go of his hands so that she could run her hands through
his hair, grabbing onto the back of his head. She lowered herself so that she
could kiss him. As they kissed deeply, she speed up moving faster over him. Her
nipples rubbing against his chest as she moved. His hands were holding her ass,
helping her keep rhythm with his upward thrusts.

“Oh, Cole.” Gwen moaned and sat up
again, once again pressing her hands into his chest. His hand slipped down
between her legs to carefully press against her clit. Gwen tossed all of her
hair over one shoulder to keep it out of her way as she continue to ride him.
With the quick rhythm and his strums on her clit, she was getting close to an
orgasm.

Cole rose up onto his arms so he
too was sitting up, changing his angle within her. She gasped. She felt an
entirely different feeling rush through her as they continued to slide against
each other. This time she felt like a firework when her release exploded within
her. She felt a huge rush of liquid between her legs. As she continued to moan
and ride out her release, Cole too found his release deep in her.

“Wow.” Gwen moaned as she tried to
catch her breath. “I believe, sir, that you found my g-spot. Only time I’ve
ever heard of that happening.”

“I’ll make sure to find it again
too.” Cole smirked at her. “That was so sexy.”
