Ulfr studied her thoughtfully. Her eyes remained lowered and her hands shook when she broke small pieces of bread to pop into her mouth. She was strangely quiet and withdrawn.

He supposed it was because she was frightened of all the huge men surrounding them watching her. This was still new to her. For a moment he thought to find Valerie so they could talk. But decided against it. She would meet her soon enough and he didn't want Valerie frightening her again with talk about how the village men were lusty dogs. No, perhaps after Vicki felt well protected and secure she could converse with 149

Hott's very vocal wife. For now he didn't feel like sharing her.

Ulfr slung an arm over her shoulder and kissed her forehead, wanting her to feel safe with him.

Once he had her fed he returned to the hut and tied her tightly, then he laid her beneath him again. She whimpered pleadingly and he remembered to let her drink from the flask to relax her. He wanted it rough for a while because he wanted her to doubly enjoy it. The liquid poured down her throat when he tipped the flask to her lips and he told her to swallow. When he felt she had enough he gagged her. She sobbed in delight when he had her over and over. He rammed his cock into her ass until he needed to come, then sought her vaginal heat not wanting to waste his seed. He knew what she liked and he gave it to her and it felt amazing.

She shivered beneath him and Ulfr stroked her hair and pulled the furs around her remembering she was too small to retain heat—he needed the bearskin. He gave her a stern look.

"Home here," he demanded and she nodded agreeably.

There was acceptance in her eyes and Ulfr was elated. He had done everything right this time and his life was perfect.

He slipped her gag off and unbound her wrists and ankles.

Tentatively she stroked at his chest and back and he nodded his approval. His hand gripped hers and for a while she stroked his cock. His kiss was tender; he cupped the back of her neck and drew their lips together. His tongue and lips tasted and lapped at her as if she were a banquet of desire before him. When her eager breath came in gasps he pulled her under him. He made the sweetest love to her. His 150

movements were gentle and caring. She muttered little noises that he felt positive were endearments. She had all ready come to love him he was certain, because he loved her more than anything. He ran his hands down her soft flesh. He nuzzled her delicate neck. When he entered her heat he did it with the utmost care. She closed around him; he pulled her legs around his waist and moved in and out at a slow pace.

He fell asleep later that night buried within her.

Ulfr asked Hott to watch Vicki for a few hours the next day while he hunted. Hott agreed, but mentioned he noted Ulfr still kept the woman bound and gagged. Ulfr had just taken her again and she lay nude on the furs, her chest rising and falling rapidly. Ulfr explained he was worried she would run, but he knew that wasn't really the case. He had gagged her the moment she had awoken; there was an odd look in her eyes. He was still secretly worried she would ask to go home again. He didn't want to mention it hurt his feelings when she had asked to leave him the last time; he gave her no opportunity to say it this time around. And besides, the time of her rape had come and gone, so she was completely safe now.

Hott asked him if she was a captive and Ulfr smiled and said of course, he had won her when they fought and she had yielded. She was going to do whatever he demanded; she had been too willful and was learning her lesson well. Hott nodded in understanding. Ulfr grinned at his brother and mentioned he could have her while he was gone. He remembered waking to Vicki happily being taken by Hott the 151

morning after the festival. It didn't bother him to know Vicki found his brother attractive. Hott smiled and nodded.

Ulfr hunted for a few hours before returning; he had killed not a bear but an elk and he was a bit confused. He had felt certain he would get a bear. He was surprised to see such a commotion at his hut. He heard Hott's angry voice yelling loudly. Many men stood around. When Ulfr went inside he saw his little Valkyrie belly down on the table instead of lying in his furs. She was still tied at the wrists and ankles and was gagged and lay limp. A man, Volundr, had obviously just finished having her. He was moving away from her, his penis still huge after he had pulled it from her, and he was grinning in delight, while slipping his cock inside his pants. Ulfr was horrified.

Hott explained he had been called away for a serious problem; he had left the captive alone for a few hours thinking her safe with another, Falkor. Falkor had watched as Hott had taken her from the window and entered the hut.

Falkor had told Hott he was needed and would watch the little captive and make certain she wouldn't escape. Hott had agreed thinking the captive didn't mind it rough and she would enjoy Falkor's attention. Hott hadn't been around when Ulfr first entered with her into the village and Ulfr had never mentioned he intended to marry the woman.

Because of the misunderstanding, the men assumed the little captive was for everyone's use. She had been taken for hours repeatedly by half the men in the camp thinking it was their right. Especially when Ulfr had insisted to his brother she was a captive and he had left her bound and gagged and 152

the grease right at their disposal. Ulfr's heart fell; it was just like Valerie's earlier prediction.

Ulfr lifted Vicki in his arms.

When he removed the gag, she whimpered, "Home."

Ulfr crushed her to himself feeling devastated. What had he done?

Later, when Valerie approached Ulfr, she looked furious.

She whacked him and then her husband.

"What?" both men said in unison. They hadn't meant for this to happen.

"How could you?" Valerie demanded with tears in her eyes.

"I had another problem. I thought she was safe with Falkor," Hott said.

"I meant, how could both of you have taken her so cruelly?" she demanded.

Ulfr and Hott looked at one another not understanding.

"What do you mean?" Ulfr finally asked and he was worried about her answer.

"You raped the poor girl from the hot springs to here and then had Hott help you. How could you take her so brutally with your damned captive game and then laugh? She said she was submissive and you still took her. Why would you continue to punish her? You called her by her first name. How did you know her name? For the last two days she's been wondering if someone sent you. She's been agonizing over who on earth would send someone to do this to her. She didn't even know who you were and you never even told her your damned name. Why didn't you even tell her who you are? Why didn't you come find me?" she fumed.

"No!" Hott yelled, he looked horrified. "I would never force a woman or hurt one on purpose. I haven't played that childish game in years. Ulfr said she wanted it like that. He insisted she liked it rough." His eyes narrowed dangerously on his brother.

"She wanted me—us," Ulfr stammered, filled with confusion.
Just like last time.
But he had managed to change history—and now it wasn't just like last time. He had changed everything, not just a few things. His thoughts raced.

For the love of Odin why didn't I even tell her my name?

The last time he had repeated his name to her over and over. It had been apparent she was having trouble with the pronunciation. He hadn't cared. The way she said Wolf was sweet; it was like her own special endearment toward him.

"She wanted to go home. How could you both? She's terrified and thought if she did what you commanded you would show her some mercy, but you didn't. I can never forgive either of you for this," she said and cried harder. She fled to her own hut.

Feeling panicked, Ulfr ran a hand over his face—right before Hott punched him. Ulfr went down hard.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" Hott demanded before stalking away, looking at him with loathing.

It was the first time Ulfr's brother had struck him.

Ulfr went to Vicki in the hut. She lay unbound, listless, in the furs. Her eyes were glazed. She offered no protest when Ulfr pulled her against his chest, obviously still thinking submission would save her from an assault. He wondered how many captives he had taken and fooled himself into believing 154

they wanted him when they lay obediently before him. He searched his mind wondering if any had cried or remained unmoving when he was done. This image of his broken Vicki was burned into his brain. Never again would he look at a captive or woman the same way.

Ulfr realized he should have let her go back into the mist with the sword, or at the very least, not have broken it. He had no way to send her home. She was terrified of him. No doubt she hated him. His selfishness had destroyed them both. He sobbed while he rocked her and apologized, wondering if she even heard him. He buried his face into her hair; he was agonized. Giant tears slid down his face.
How
could this have gone so wrong? When had this gone so
wrong?

He remembered her surreal tears in the hot springs after he had broken the sword. She really had been afraid of him.

It hadn't felt right; she hadn't felt right, but he was so determined it would work out better this time. He should have realized he had changed history the second he broke the sword. He had guided them on a new path. Had he been fooling himself all along? He had only wanted to correct the wrong done to her and the consequences it had led to; he had only wanted his own little Valkyrie. Valkyrie were strong, they were Odin's chosen, they were...they were like warrior women. Ulfr looked down at his little Vicki. She had been a warrior; she had grown strong on her own and fought and faced her fears, not only with his help, but with the determination of her inner strength and choice. He stole that from her. He felt doubly sickened—he had destroyed not only 155

a Valkyrie, but his Valkyrie. His tears dripped from his chin to splash onto her cheeks and mingle with hers.

"Vicki," he wept. "Odin."

Chapter 10

Vicki woke to heart-wrenching sobbing. Her eyes blinked in her confusion. She looked around her surroundings.

Everything was a blur and she wiped tears from her eyes to see better. She was in a clearing, mist was flanking two sides.

Ulfr was beside her lying face down in the grass his arm covering his head. He was the one who was sobbing.

"Wolf?" she questioned.

He stirred and sat up slowly, then he looked around cautiously. "Vicki?" he whispered.

Vicki cocked her head. "You're speaking English," she said to him.

He looked confused. "No, you're speaking Norse," he said.

"What happened?" she asked.

"You don't remember?" he replied.

"I remember walking with you into the mist. I guess we fell asleep," she replied. "I had the oddest dream. Everything went back to when I met you in the mist and I remembered everything about being with you, but you didn't remember me. Only this time it was you who were naked and none too pleased about it. I had a devil of the time finding you clothes—extra muscular warrior size. But before I found you any we managed to have sex a few times, which cheered you up immediately—you dog. Imagine my surprise when I was suddenly a virgin again. I forgot how big your cock felt the first time. And how enthusiastic you are. Thankfully, somehow I was able to talk you into going home with me and 157

we snuck in and grabbed some wine and went upstairs for a handy bottle of lubricant before you indulged in what you wanted.

"I was so happy to have you in my time I thought it would be better for us...for me. In my time the attack never happened. The men didn't exist anymore. I'm embarrassed to say this, but I wanted to stay in my time and I wanted you to stay with me. It was the sword that let you come through with me; you held it when you came through the mist following me. I dropped it down a well, wanting you to stay forever.

"I took you to meet Daddy in his office and all hell broke loose. You freaked on the elevator. I guess it was too confining, or you have claustrophobia. When the doors finally opened you were such an awful shade of white. The first room in sight was filled with computer electronics. You used your sword to lob off some guy's head when he used the copier.

Good God it was awful; blood was splattered everywhere. I knew I couldn't take you to Daddy so we snuck down the stairs—all fifteen flights of them. When we got outside you panicked further. You beat up a taxi driver, saying you had heard all about them and how evil they were from what Valerie had said in her stories. You threw a cop through his car windshield, and ran a clown through because you thought he was some type of Loki concoction. You throttled a mime, and you pissed in someone's pool—while people were swimming in it. Good God, you were such a barbarian," Vicki said with amazement.

"You were convinced cars were giants, and every woman in scantily dressed clothes were slaves you could screw because it was your right. And airplanes—good God! You thought they were massive winged birds who would devour you. Again courtesy of Valerie. It took me forever to teach you to use the toilet. It's impossible to toilet train a grown man. You were terrified of the microwave and set the oven on fire. And don't even get me started on the barbeque and vacuum. You went hunting in the zoo. I thought Mom would have a heart attack when you cooked her prize-winning exotic fish on a skewer in the fireplace—with a dead squirrel and the hindquarters of a mountain goat.
