I get to work a few minutes late. Something that hasn’t happened before, but I had a hard time unwrapping myself from Eden.

I never got around to telling her about Roni. We had a good moment last night, and I didn’t want to screw it all up.  I just hope Eden doesn’t see Roni around town before I tell her. I make a note to head over to my place after work, to make sure she is settled in.

Today is going to be a long one. We have an engine rebuild, and I just got a call to go out on a tow for a nasty wreck. Some kid wrapped a truck around a telephone pole. Thankfully, no one was hurt too seriously, but it’s going to be a job getting the truck out of the spot it is in. This is a busy time of day.

It took me nearly an hour to get the truck on the rollback. Can’t believe that kid walked away with barely a scratch. The truck is a complete loss. There is no way we could fix that mangled heap of metal. After getting the wreckage to the scrap yard, I head over to my place to look in on Roni and grab some of my stuff. I can’t wait to get home to Eden; it’s been a rough day. I really like the idea of going home to her and Glenna every day. It’s like we are becoming a family.

I’m in my room gathering up the last of what I need. Roni hasn’t wasted any time setting up and making herself at home here. She has already made use of my closet and bathroom. Her shit is spread out all over the sink.

I’m in the middle of taking a piss when I hear a knock at the front door. I hurry to finish. Grabbing my toothbrush after washing my hands, I shove it in my bag.

I flit around the house, cleaning up. Jasper gave me the day off work today since he tired me out too much.  I smile at the feeling I still have between my legs.

I check the time on the stove and realize that Jasper is late. In the last month since we’ve started over, being us again, he’s never been late. I turn off the stove, making sure the salsa doesn’t burn on the chicken, and grab my keys.  My sister is with Hilary and the kids, so I don’t have to worry about picking her up. Hilary said she would drop her off later to give me some time with Jasper. I want to tell him about everything I am still holding inside, but I just don’t know if I’m ready.

I only planned to drive by Jasper’s place to see if he was there.  I am shocked to find he actually is. I thought he had given up the lease on the place since he was moving in with me. Parking the car, I make my way up the stairs to the condo. After knocking, I feel as though the air has been knocked out of me when I come face to face with
her
, the one girl I had hoped to never see again. Roni.

Her face freezes when she sees me. “Who is it?” I hear Jasper call out.

Oh my God.

I don’t bother staying around to hear what he has to say. I run. He has
that
woman here. I can’t believe he would do that to me.

It’s a good thing I didn’t tell him my final secret, because that asshole doesn’t deserve it.

“Who was at the door?” I call out to Roni. I wasn’t expecting anyone. “Not gonna answer me? Who was it?” I ask, coming out of my room with a suitcase. I decided to let Roni have the apartment, since I was planning to pay out my lease on it anyways. Figured I’d grab the rest of my shit and move into Eden’s house. My apartment’s a small bachelor’s pad, but should suit Roni fine until I figure out a more permanent solution for her. I asked her why she didn’t just stay with Monica, and all she said was they don’t get along anymore because of me.

I don’t care about the furniture; the place came furnished. It’s a little beaten and worn, but it suits its purpose. Besides, I figure Eden and I can pick out some new shit together. She already has a nice setup, but I’m ready to make a home with her. I want to make her mine. I am going to do what I have always wanted; put a ring on her finger.

“It was Eden,” Roni says quietly, staring at me. I can’t tell if she is satisfied with what her being here has cost me, but I don’t care enough to stick around and find out.

I drop the suitcase and quickly take off. Shit, she probably thought the worst! Fuck, I know this is going to be rough. When Eden sets her mind to something, it seems there isn’t much changing it these days. We’re finally getting to a good place. I know she was getting comfortable with me being around more. This is not how I wanted her to find out.  The only thing I can do is be completely honest with her, even if it hurts. I don’t scare easily, but I am scared to tell her I was involved with bad shit.

I get to Eden’s house as she’s unlocking the front door. When she turns around and sees me, she hurries in and slams the door shut behind her, locking it.

I shake my head, sighing. It’s like she forgot I have a key. I open the door and face her down.

“Get out,
Angel,
” she sneers my name. I’ve been wanting her to use my biker name for months now, but hearing it come of out her mouth like that, I hate it.  It sounds wrong.

“It’s not what you think, Darlin’,” I tell her tentatively.

“Oh, really? Enlighten me then. I go to find you, because you didn’t bother to even let me know you’d be late. I show up at your place to find that, that
bitch
in your home!” she screams. Her hands are planted firmly on her hips.

“I meant to tell you this last night, but shit got away from me. Please let me explain,” I ask her. She isn’t walking away from me without a fight.

“Why should I?” Her brows are knitted in an angry scowl.

I scrub my hands over my face.  “You’re gonna have to hear me out. If you still want me to leave after that, fine.” No way am I really leaving here until she listens and gives us a chance at something good. We can make this work. She just has to give in to what her heart wants.

She crosses her arms and nods.

I sit down on her couch. I would ask her for a drink, but she doesn’t have liquor in the house. “The morning you left, after our night together, I got a call from my dad. It was about Roni.” Eden tenses up when she hears Roni’s name. “She was causing trouble with the club. Dad wanted her dealt with, and knowing I knew her, sent me to do it.”

“Why didn’t I ever know you were a part of that club? I’ve heard about the Satan’s Law MC, but that was it,” she says, sounding confused.

I shake my head. “It wasn’t something we advertised unless it was a need to know situation. We flew under the radar for a lot of years. I also wasn’t proud of the club. I didn’t really have a choice, since my dad was the President.”  I didn’t ever want her mixed up in that shit.

“I’ve been to your house many times. How did I not know that?” she asks quietly. Her eyes look sad and distant.

“Probably the same reason you didn’t know your dad was the vice president,” I tell her with a click of my tongue, shocking her.

“What?” she asks, surprised as she sits down beside me on the couch. At least she seems to have calmed down. Her demeanor has lightened.

I grab her face, making her look at me. “Your mom didn’t want you to know, didn’t want you to even think of that club.” I promised Martha that I would never get Eden wrapped up in club life. She never wanted that life for her.

“I don’t even know what to think right now. I can’t believe this.” She has a disbelieving expression on her face, her mouth still hanging open. I’m about to joke and ask if I need to pick her jaw up from the ground.

“Anyway, back to the Roni stuff. She was one of the club whores, sleeping with all the members. She started getting bitchy about not becoming an Old Lady, started telling all the old ladies that she was sleeping with their men—even my mother, which is the reason she left. Roni ended up getting kicked out of the club and became angry. She started talking to the police about shit that went on in the clubhouse. My father found out, but only because the cop she spoke to was dirty and worked for the Satan’s.”

I let go of Eden’s hands and lean back on the couch, clasping my hands together behind my head.

“The breaking point for the club was when she was yelling at the compound gates about being pregnant, saying it was Big Willy’s baby, and she was going to tell your mother,” I say.

“Oh my God!” she whispers out, shocked.

“She wasn’t pregnant. I found out she lied about that shit just to see if that would grant her access back to the club.” She was desperate.

“I wonder if my mom knew about Dad cheating,” Eden says in wonder.

I don’t answer her. “My job was to eliminate her. If I did, I’d get patched in. Obviously, I didn’t do that. I ended up packing her up in my truck, and I left town with her, giving her enough money to start life over and stay out of town.”

“But now she’s back,” Eden states curiously.

I decide to fill her in on what happened. Telling Eden my dirty secret is the only way to make her fully understand what I was up against; and why Roni is somewhat my responsibility.

I put on a show, knowing Big Willy would be there. Dad told me he was doing it to make sure I played my part in it. When I locked eyes with him across the diner, he winked at me, giving me a sneering smile. I made out with Roni a little more, feeling like complete shit, when I looked up and saw Big Willy give me the high sign.

Time to end her.

I got Roni into my truck and walked around to the driver’s side. The whole drive she was trying to latch onto my dick. Finally, when I reached three towns over, I shoved her off me.

“What the hell, Jasper?”

“Tonight was a fuckin’ act. You want to live, you do what I say, or Reaper, possibly Big Willy or my dad will be after you. And they won’t hesitate to kill you. Got me?”

She looked at me, face pale. “Okay,” she said urgently.

“I mean it. You change your name, go back to school, be a stripper, I don’t give a fuck. What happened to your folks shouldn’t have happened. I’m not in the business of hurting women, so you need to get me.”

We ended up in Drayton Valley and pulled up to a seedy motel. “Only Vinny knows I’m doing this. He helped fund this shit,” I said, reaching under the seat and pulling out the envelope. “There is about ten grand in here. Vinny also helped get new identification for you. Start over,” I said passing it over.

“Does this mean, this whole night, this date, was all to save my life?” she asked.

“Yeah, I don’t kill women. Never been me. You should know that by now.”

She took a deep breath. “It was fake, wasn’t it? The date, you were just helping me out?”

“Yeah, you just said that.”

“What does she have that I don’t?” Roni asked.

“She’s just Eden.” I told her.

“I don’t understand that, but um, well, thank you, for you know, this,” she said.

She got out of the truck, but before she closed the door, I called out. “Yeah?” she asked quietly.

“Need to walk you inside. Need to bring back proof I off’d you,” I told her.

Her face paled. “I understand.”

“I don’t want to do this, so I’m not, but I do need some sort of proof. Otherwise, shit will just get worse for both of us.”

By the time I was done, I felt like complete shit. I roughed her up. She cried with each blow. I ended up losing everything in my stomach because of it, but it had to be done. I took a picture, asking her to fake the dead look, and then left. I went into the woods and started to dig a bit. After all, I needed to have solid proof of shit.

I sent the text off, letting Pres know it was done.

Good. Welcome to the club boy,
was what he texted back.

“Wow,” Eden says, rubbing her arms and looking chilled.

“Yeah, she showed up at the club yesterday, beaten up pretty bad. Someone had found her, threatened her. She’s hiding something, not sure what, but it’s plain to see she needed the club’s help. I let her stay at my place, since the rooms are full at the clubhouse and I’m staying with you. I only went over tonight to get the rest of my shit. Eden, I just got you back. I wouldn’t do that to you. I love you too damn much to ever hurt you knowingly.” Relief washes over me, seeing her defenses slip away.

I know now, after this reaction, maybe it’s best I don’t tell her about Monica just yet. We’re still so fragile that I think she would flat out break it off with me, especially after the reaction that came out of her over Roni.
