He reached up and she felt her entire corset rip and snap with the sudden welcome that she had been waiting for. He ripped it off of her naked, supple body and hurled it to the side and her whole chest fell free. He looked at her breasts and she smiled. This was exactly what she loved about him, that sense of awe and wonder that he maintained. Surely he’d slept with other women before and he’d experienced sex, but he had a way of making her feel like she was the first woman that he’d ever slept with.

Shoving him back against the bed, she watched him fall down and his cock stood straight up like a mast or a flagpole. That was hers. She needed to attach a little flag and declare this The Land of Katie. She’d make sure it was a very happy land and that they had everything they could possibly ever want. But right now, as she straddled him and slowly slipped down on top of him, his cock pushing deeper and deeper inside of her, she was just trying to hold on.

Her whole body felt like it had been ripped apart. She felt him reach up and rip her thong, like it was nothing more than a piece of paper, that had stood between her and her otherwise naked body.

“Hey, those were mine,” she said with a smile as the tip of his cock pierced her and she started to slip down on top of him. Her eyebrows raised and her mouth opened in a soft, breathy scream as she felt her eyelids flutter in delight. There was no hiding how much she was into this. Her body was betraying her, even if she wanted to act like everything was good or that she’d had better. He had a way of stripping away her defenses and her deceptions as easily as they’d been underwear.

“I’ll buy your replacements,” he said with his eyes closed and mouth open as well, clearly enjoying how tight of a fit she was.

Katie loved being on top. There was something about riding a cock, especially Shane’s, that made her feel like she was the most powerful woman in the world. Working her hips and riding him, she wriggled and moved so that she was in charge, riding him like the stallion that he was. She wanted him to give her every last drop of cum that he had inside of himself. There was nothing else she wanted.

Riding him harder and harder, she felt his hands gripping her breasts, squeezing her nipples as she fucked him, planting her hands next to his shoulders as she fucked him harder and harder. This was everything she wanted, going up and down, up and down on him. This was it. This was the world she had been begging for. She watched as he arched his back and she felt him squeezing her breasts and pulling her as close to him as he could, digging his cock as deeply into him as possible.

Finally, she arched her back and let out a scream of delight as she closed her eyes and flipped her hair back, throwing back her head and screaming as he stuffed his cock as deeply into her as possible.  This was the great awakening that she had longed for. As she dug her fingernails into his chest, she wondered if this was truly happening. Was this real? Was this man actually hers?

CHAPTER FIVE

“What do you want to do?” she asked him, wrapped up in the sheets of the hotel bed and lying with her leg and her arm over his naked body. She could feel every line and every bulge of his muscles through the sheets. This was the body that she wanted to lie next to every night and to wake up next to every morning. It was almost impossible to explain, but it wasn’t up for negotiations. She knew that this was the body she needed. Every cell in her body was screaming, crying out for her to tell him that.

“I don’t care,” he said, looking at her with his perfect smile on those magical lips that could make her see the face of God. “All I know is that I want to do it with you next to me.”

She smiled and could feel the blush flooding her cheeks like an unwanted guest barging in and giving away all of her secrets. How was she supposed to navigate the world when she was transmitting all of this to anyone who was willing to look at her? She needed to have more guile and tact. There was still a strong possibility that Shane was just using her.

Who was she kidding right now? Did she even really believe that? Maybe a tiny fragment of her mind was holding on to doubt because of the survivalist mentality that she had been living with for years, but that was it. That little island in the back of her mind was losing population and acreage with every passing second. She knew that this man was the real deal, just as much as she knew that if she looked in the mirror, she would see her face.

She would see her face and she would know it was real without a doubt in her mind. This was the world she lived in now. This was the truth, right beneath her body, radiating like a furnace to her.

“I can’t go back to my house,” Katie told him. He looked at her with concerned eyes and she knew that her statement came out a little cryptic, so she wanted to assure him that she meant it romantically. “How can I go back to my old life without you? I can’t leave you here. I can’t just abandon you and pretend like this is normal. You’re something out of mythology and I’m completely consumed by you. I couldn’t think straight about anything other than you. I was drawn to you no matter where I was.”

“It’s because you’re my mate,” Shane said with a smile on his lips.

She didn’t know what that meant, but she thought it was probably a good thing. It wasn’t like he was going to call her something that was a bad thing, right? She wanted to be his mate, if that meant his wife or his lover or companion in any kind of permanent, romantic format. This was the life she wanted, right next to him. She wanted to be right there with him at all times. She wanted a life where she wouldn’t have to think about him or worry about him, because he was always going to be right there for her.

“What does that mean?” she asked him, trying to get out of her mind.

“You were destined to be with me,” he said with all the confidence and assurance she needed.

She was ready for him to break out the ring and she’d get the champagne.  Why not make this thing legal? She was ready to make it legal right now and that meant he was going to be all hers forever.

However, she wanted to know more about this. She felt like she was hanging on every word he was saying to her.

“For the past several years, I’ve been waiting for you, searching for the woman that I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I couldn’t help but think that I was going insane, wasting my time, but it was vital for me to find you. I had to find you or there wouldn’t be any hope for me, but I had faith. I knew there were cosmic forces at work, down through the ages, that would ensure that you found me and I found you.

“It was the reason why you saw me in the lounge and why you left here with a nagging suspicion about my secret. It was why you had the tenacity to hunt down that secret in what must have taken you hours to find. It was why, even after learning all of that and hearing the truth from me, you still decided that it was worth a shot and came back up here. It was destiny and it had to happen.”

“Why did it have to happen?” she asked him, wondering why that was so important. Why was he in desperate need to find her? Was he after something? Was there something she needed to do for him? She looked at him and watched as he stared at the ceiling, looking for the words to phrase everything just right. She loved that about him. She liked how he was willing to take his time. He was a patient, thoughtful man. She had seen that in his writings and it was impossible to miss. He was the kind of man who knew what he wanted to say and he was willing to take the time to listen and figure out what it was that he needed to say.

“Because I lost my powers,” he said after a moment.

“What?” She was not sure what that meant.

“It’s a long story, but I lost my powers several years ago,” he said with a grim secrecy about the events that she was hungry to hear.

Her ears were burning and her mind was on fire, trying to figure out what it could mean. How could a Shifter just lose their powers? Was that something that made sense to anyone out there? She wasn’t sure what to ask, really.

“Is that why you’ve been alone?” She put that much together with her limited knowledge. There had to be an explanation here that she wasn’t getting. Maybe the pieces were right in front of her, but without the proper understanding, they were lost to her.

“Yes,” he answered. He took a deep breath and sat up straight. “Katie, I think that you’re the most incredible woman I’ve ever met and I feel drawn to you like a magnet and it’s driving me insane. But, I can’t go any farther unless I ask something of you that is radical and completely out of line in today’s society. I mean, I can’t expect you to be a romantic and to be caught up in all of this, but I’m going to. I’m going to ask you to just trust me on this. I need to know that you’re willing to try and make this thing last.

“If you’re not into this, or not willing to at least try, then I have to let you go and stop telling you things right now. It’s too dangerous if you’re afraid of commitment or you’re not as into me as I am into you. So right now, I need to know the honest truth from you. What are you feeling?”

That was a tall order. She looked at him and she knew that for the first time in her life, she was feeling a calmness and a sense of tranquility that she had never felt before. She also felt a sense of purpose and value that she had lacked up until this point in her life. It was like she had been wandering in the wilderness for her entire life, but from the moment she met Shane, it was like she had found a road.

She knew what she wanted and she knew it was him. All the thoughts that were in her head right now were being filtered through the presence of Shane. But how was she going to say that? She didn’t want to scare him off, but it was apparent right now that he was feeling the same thing. It was obvious that he wanted just as much from her.

“I think I’m falling in love with you,” she said with a quivering voice, more terrified and fearful than she had ever felt before in her life.

What if this didn’t work out? What if they ended up hating each other? What if one of the myriad of issues that were running through her mind, was telling her that she needed to be reasonable here and not a hopeless romantic?

What if it all came crashing down in the end and she got hurt? But, what if none of that happened?

“I’ve never felt this way about anyone, not even the first boy I ever had a crush on. I’m so in love with you that I think I’m going crazy and I don’t know what to do. It’s like there’s static in my mind unless I’m around you and I don’t know how to make it stop. It’s the most fantastic feeling when I see your face or when you’re around me. It’s like everything in my mind quiets and I know what I want. I want you, Shane. I want you more than I’ve ever wanted anything else in the world.”

Shane looked at her with tender eyes, so full of love and caring compassion that she felt like her heart might burst in gratitude. She’d never seen an expression like that and she’d definitely never had anyone in her life who had ever bothered to love or care for her like that. She had felt like a ghost of lust for most of her life and now she felt like a complete person. When he leaned in and kissed her, their lips locked and she knew that there was something powerful here, a potential that could alter the very course of the world. There was a shuddering power inside of that kiss that made her want to scream and moan at the same time.

“Okay,” he said, pulling gently back from her. “What I’m about to tell you is something that I’ve never told anyone else before in my life. It’s the story that I’ve kept to myself and kept a secret from everyone else I’ve ever met and that I’ve ever come across until now. You’re special to me, Katie, and there is nothing that I wouldn’t do for you. We’re bonded to each other and it’s going to be an intense, passionate romance unlike anything you’ve ever experienced, but I have to keep you up to date on where I am, because you’re getting pulled into something crazy and I want you to know the whole truth.”

“I can handle it,” Katie assured him.

“I know you can,” he said, with a smile on his lips.

He took a deep breath and she knew that this was the moment where the clarity came and where everything started to make sense. She knew that she was tiptoeing into a world she knew absolutely nothing about and that she was walking blindly toward a horizon that might very well destroy her. That didn’t matter to her, though. She was more than willing to do what was necessary to make sure she was safe and that Shane had a chance against whatever danger had sent him on the run. She could smell it. Her entire life, she had known when there was danger on the horizon and now was one of those moments. It was like the smell of blood. You never forgot it.

“My father used to be the head of my pack,” Shane told her with a somber, gloomy expression on his face. She had immediately picked up on the past tense of his statement and she could already tell where this was going. “When I was growing up, I lived life like I was a prince, but there was no way I could have been ready for what was actually happening. There were several people in my pack that believed that my father had a radical notion that would get them killed.

“He wanted to start a community and settle down. Shifters are usually mobile families that constantly move to keep out of the sights of other Shifters and hunters that hate them. But my father, he wanted to start a community where we’d take care of Shifters and slowly grow our ranks until we were a thriving portion of a state or region. He wanted to progress from the nomadic lifestyle and give our people hope.

“There was a faction inside of the pack who thought this would end up destroying our people and that my father was going to lead us all to death and destruction. Naturally, when people are afraid, things got violent.

“So, three men led a coup against my father and my mother who were the alpha and beta of our pack. Abe Duncan, Christoph Buchanan, and Peter Vincent. The three of them made sure that they had enough support to outnumber my father’s supporters and then the three of them ganged up on my mother and father. I watched as they killed my parents.

“That was the day that I lost my powers. I was young and fearful and my mother had told me to run before the three came to our side of the camp. I watched from the woods as they killed my parents and I don’t know what happened. I lost my powers and there was nothing I could do about it. I hid for days, maybe even weeks. When they were gone, I remember going back and burying my parents. I was exiled, without a pack and left for dead.

“It was the loneliest I’d ever been and I would never forget what it felt like to know that the only people who loved me were either dead or had turned their backs on me and my family.

“I became a drifter and traveled the country until I ran into another Shifter. He could turn into an eagle and he told me that the reason I’d lost my powers was because I had lost my family. I’d lost my pack and until I found another pack and a sense of family, I’d never have my powers back. I didn’t know what that meant at the time, but eventually I began to realize that he was talking about a mate.

“I had to find a mate if I was ever going to be able to regain my power and go back to my pack and reclaim the position that was rightfully mine. I had to prove myself and show them that I was strong enough to be the alpha and that meant finding my mate.

“I parted ways after a few years with my friend and decided to build a living that could keep me on the move, covering as much ground as possible and having faith that my mate was out there, being drawn to me. The only thing I knew was that mates were irresistible objects and that it was inevitable she would be drawn to me if I were in the area.
