All the while, in those three years, Shane and Katie grew deeper and deeper in love. It was the world she had always wanted and as they developed their little community and grew more and more civilized, she knew she was going to be very happy here. They were talks of setting up a restaurant and a bar even with a local brewery that might draw tourists. They were ready to start opening up their borders and introducing themselves to the locals while keeping their secrets safe. Katie had smiled at the thought of even having a gas station.

This was the world Shane had been picturing in his mind and they were actively chasing it down. They were going to be a civilization of Shifters that weren’t bound by the fears and the terrors that had claimed their people for so long. As she stood on her porch and watched as another house was going up, trying to finish it before the real snowstorms hit, she could feel the fruits of their labor coming to fruition more and more with each passing year.

“This is perfect,” she told him tenderly.

He put his hands on her growing stomach and kissed her neck. She wondered when she would be able to feel him kick. Him? Maybe it would be a her. She smiled at the thought of having a little girl running around their home, giggling and laughing.

“So long as you’re here,” he said to her, kissing her cheek softly, “it’s perfect.”
