“Wait, I thought I run this show…why are you telling me what to do?” I teasingly reply.

“I see…how about I try again….Can my girl, please, give me a kiss?” He looks so adorable looking at me with that soul melting stare, how can I resist that?

I stand on my tippy toes to kiss him, and he cups my cheek to deepen the kiss. The instant his tongue strokes mine, my toes curl, and my arms wraps around his waist, pulling him closer to me, needing to feel his hard body against mine. He releases my lips and grazes my jaw with his soft lips, slowly moving down my neck leaving a trail of wet kisses, causing me to moan out loud. He chuckles when he hears me. His lips are on me again, giving me small kisses, kissing the tip of my nose, and giving me his heart stopping smile.

“Ok, babe, I’ll talk to Tami, tell her everything’s ok. I don’t want her cutting my balls in my sleep; you know how she gets. I also, need to help clean up, or Roxy’s going to have a bitch fit.” He chuckles.

“Are you sure, Jake? Like one-hundred-percent-no-one-will-change-my-mind-I-will-not-have-sex-with-any-girl sure?” I ask.

He kisses my nose. “I am one-hundred-percent-no-one-will-change-my-mind sure! I can’t say I will not have sex with any girl because, sweetheart, I want to have tons of sex with my girl, but only when you’re ready.”

I take a deep breath and say, “How can you say you’re sure when you were screwing other girls while supposedly liking me? You just enjoyed Tiffany dry humping you outside! I’m sorry, but I can’t wrap my mind around it.”

How can he down shift that fast? One second he’s getting a freaking lap dance and now he loves me? I need to know for sure if it’s me he wants…I need him to want only me…not leaving me for anyone or anything else.

“Didn’t you go out on dates too, Trish? Even if nothing sexual happened, you still dated, knowing that you liked me. The only difference is I had sex, and you didn’t. Don’t make that face, I know there’s a huge difference, but we still both dated other people, regardless of our feelings for each other. And for the record, I haven’t had sex in twelve weeks. We’ll figure it out together, okay?” He pleads with a serious tone, kisses me on my forehead, and leaves my room.

Wow, did he just make a typical guy move, right now, make a speech, kiss the girl, walk out, and everything will work out on its own? Yup, he just did. Well, I hope everything will work out, because my poor battered heart is at stake here.

Chapter 7

Trish

We’ve been a couple for three months and everything is going great, just as he said it would. I love Jake. I’m sure of it, no doubt whatsoever. He just gets me, he understands my fears so much I think, he cocoons me in this over protective shell that nothing and no one can penetrate. Experiencing the hurt and devastation when I lost Dylan, forced my hand to vow never to love again. Jake changed all that for me. My love for him gives me the strength to conquer that fear, and hopefully, his love for me will hold us, forever.

A knock on my door startles me.

“Hey, Trish, can I come in?”

“Rox, seriously, you normally just barge in here as if you own the damn place.”

“How do I know Jake isn’t sprawled on your bed in all his naked glory?” She giggles.

“He’s at work, silly,” I say, rolling my eyes at her.

“I guess, it’s good that he’s at work because Tiffany’s here, throwing a fit outside looking for him. How do you want to handle this? She’s feisty. I think she just got out of Ho Boot Camp. Do you want me to bitch slap her ass or what? I’m down, just say the word, baby girl.”

“Oh, my God, the lap dance girl? Ugh!” I release a frustrated groan.

“Yup, the very one. I think she’s going to pitch a tent and wait, because apparently, she’s been calling Jake and he hasn’t called her back. Bitch can’t take a hint.”

“Well, I’ll go outside and talk to her, then. I don’t know that she’ll listen, but I’ll try.”

I take a deep breath before opening the door, preparing myself for the typical Barbie fit that’s about to happen. I wonder why she’s looking for Jake. I was just telling myself how everything’s been going great, and BAM this shit happens. I swear I jinx myself sometimes. I wish I didn’t have to do this, but I’m dating someone who has been around the buffet line one too many times, who has a mile long list of ass chasing, boyfriend snatching bimbos.

“Hello, I’m Trish, Jake’s not here, but if you want to leave your number and a message, he’ll get back with you as soon as possible.” Damn, I sound like a fucking answering machine.
Hello, welcome to Fuck and Drop CUMpany how may I direct your clit. For once, I agree with my crazed-self’s analysis of this awkward situation.

“I know who you are. Are you his new slut of the month? He’s mine, just in case you’re wondering,” She says with a smug look on her face.

“Oh, really. Did you forget to drink your meds this morning? You’re delusional. His girlfriend is my girl, right here. If I were you, I’d march my over-used, over-drilled, fake tits, flat ass, germ infested hoo-haa out of here, before I make you,” Roxy shouts.

“We’ll see about that! You, his girlfriend? You’re not his type, honey!” She gives me a once over and laughs like Cruela de Ville, how attractive.

“And you’re his type? Maybe, his type to fuck and drop. If you want to wait, move your skanky ass on the side walk,” Roxy hisses at her.

I pull Roxy away from her and push her toward the house. I need to separate these two before they start pulling each other’s hair. I lock the door, tell Roxy to sit, and relax while I reach for my phone in my back pocket. Time to call Mr. Horndog and get an explanation, but I get his voice mail. How fitting.

Tami walks in carrying a bunch of shopping bags, wearing a puzzled look on her face. “Hey, Roxy, I can practically see the fire coming out of your nose.”

Roxy huffs, “Have you seen the Skanky Ho bitch outside? She comes here, tits blazing, claiming Jake’s her boyfriend.”

Tami swings her gaze toward me, her eyes silently asking me if I’m okay.

I smile at her. “I’m good, Tami. Is she still out there?”

Relief covers her face as she drops all the bags, then flops down next to Roxy. “Nah, she left as I pulled up. Does Jake know about this?”

I give her a small nod and sit down across from them. “Yup, I texted him since I got his voice mail earlier. He texted me back saying we’ll talk about it when he gets home.”

She lets out a breath. “Alright, now that the Ho Bitch left, have you both finished packing what we need to take to Florida?”

“Yes. I’ve packed everything we need to take. The only thing I have left to do is pack for me. Even after this Tiffany episode, I’m super excited!”

“Did Jake mention anything to you about the rooms?”

“Yes, he did…I’m sorry he made you room with Roxy. I told him not to do that.”

“Don’t worry about it.” Tami looks at me seriously, before saying another word. “He really loves you, Trish. I haven’t seen him act like this, even when he was dating Amber in college. For the first time, he’s doing the chasing. He does everything to please you. I know he’ll do anything to make you happy.” She pauses for a second. “He waited so long for you, so just be a little patient with him because of his overprotectiveness, when it comes to you he knows no bounds.”

I laugh at that because it’s so true. “I love him, too, T. I thought I wouldn’t be able to feel this way again. It just seems right, you know…I thought I’d be so scared to open up, but with him, I don’t have to think twice. I think he is
my one,
Tami. I know it’s only been a couple of months, but it feels as if we’ve been in a relationship forever…weird, isn’t it?”

“I think because you guys were friends first, you know? You’re good together and good for each other. Try to find the balance though, because he tends to lose sight that a relationship takes two to make things work.”

“Hmm, nice advice there, Tami, but how about you?” Roxy squints her eyes at Tami. I see where this is going, and for once, it’s nice not to be on the hot seat.

She turns her head toward Roxy. “What about me?”

“You and Brian. Nah, nah, nah don’t give me that look of surprise. T, I know you like the back of my hand. There’s nothing wrong with liking him.” Roxy’s all knowing smile is making Tami uncomfortable.

She starts playing with her hair trying to buy herself some time, to decide whether to tell us the truth or an excuse.

“I’m not one to play around. You ask me a straight question, I’ll give you a straight answer.” Without batting an eyelash she confidently says, “Yes, I do like him, but I’m not going to make the first move. If he wants me, he knows where to find me. End of story.”

“So, you’re telling me, you’ll just let it go?” Roxy’s shocked face clearly shows how she feels about Tami’s decision.

“That’s exactly what I’m saying. I don’t have time to play the mind games you kids seem to play all the time. If he knows what he wants, he’ll act on it, and so will I.” Tami looks at me. Obviously, she’s referring to me.

Roxy shakes her head. “It’s not that simple, T. You need to set restrictions, boundaries, you know, rules.”

Tami stays quiet for a while, deep in thought. “It actually is simple. When you love someone, you let them know, talk about how to make a go of it, how to make it work, and go from there. What restrictions are you talking about, Roxy? You don’t put restrictions on love. The love you have for each other is the guiding force. It’s the tie that binds you together and makes you stronger. When a relationship is solid…it’s unshakable.”

“Well, what about the age gap, fear of failing, insecurities, past mistakes, past hurts; all of these factors affect a relationship,” I finally find my voice and ask the question that I know has been in the fore front of my mind.

Tami sighs slowly. “Of course they affect relationships, but relationships should serve as a motivation to overcome them instead of it being a roadblock. Does that make sense?”

“So, you’re saying Brian’s age doesn’t matter to you at all?”

I’m sure Brian feels insecure about that, and while Tami is a very confident woman, I’m sure she feels insecure about the age gap as well. With the girls that Brian brings home, I’ll call her out on it if she lies about it not affecting her.

“Trish, why should it matter? I’m only thirty-one and he’s twenty-seven, that’s only a four year difference. If that’s his hang up, then so be it. So, to answer the question that’s dancing in your brain about the girls that he brings home; my answer to that is, there’s nothing I can do about it. He’s not mine. He’s free to do whatever he wants. Is it painful to see? Sure, but I have to move past that.”

Roxy stands up, obviously not agreeing with Tami. “You make it sound so easy, because you grew up with parents who showered you with love. You never experienced being rejected and tossed away like you’re yesterday’s garbage. You never experienced a boyfriend dying on you. You haven’t experienced losing someone.” Roxy’s words touch me so much, but what kills me is her tone of voice. She sounds lost and hopeless. Her parents didn’t care for her. When she’d had enough at the very young age of ten, she called Jake’s dad, and she’s lived with them ever since.

Tami, being the mother hen, immediately walks toward Roxy and holds her tight. “I’m not saying it’s easy. What I’m saying is, you can adapt to any situation while you try to overcome them. Remember, what my dad always says…improvise, adapt, and overcome, right?”

Roxy rolls her eyes. “Geez, you’re a walking Marine advertisement. The only thing missing is someone saying ‘outstanding’.”

***

I’m not surprised Jake comes home early; I know he’s eager to talk to me about Tiffany. After dinner, we go straight to my bedroom. I feel the tension building up as soon as I close the door. What could this girl possibly want?

“Trish, she was never my girlfriend. You know I didn’t do girlfriends, until you. The last time I saw her was about six months ago. Before you ask me…yes, we had sex. You better listen carefully, I know I’m not a saint, but I’m not stupid. I always, I say again, always used protection. I didn’t care if a bitch told me she’s on the pill, I covered my dick all the time. I don’t know why she’s calling me, and I don’t care,” He says, annoyance in his voice; clearly he’s very frustrated.

“Why didn’t you tell me she’s been calling you?”

“I didn’t tell you because she doesn’t mean anything to me, and she shouldn’t to you. Why are we even talking about her, babe? I didn’t say anything to avoid stupid discussions like this.” He blows out a breath, then asks, “Are you mad at me?”

“Is there a reason for me to be?” I mumble my own direct question.

“No! None!” His answers quick, assured, confident.

“I’m not mad. I’m just frustrated.”

“Trish, I don’t want to argue about this. She means nothing to me. I can even count on my fingers the number of times I took her out. I told her, from the beginning, it’s all about the sex between us. You have to believe me.” He looks at me with tears in his eyes, and at that moment, I know without a shadow of a doubt, he is telling the truth.

I approach him slowly, I reach to cup his cheeks with both hands, and kiss him softly on his lips. “I believe you. I do, but we need to know why she’s looking for you.”

“I really don’t give a fuck why she’s calling me! Why does it even matter? I’m not hiding anything from you.”

I don’t know why I’m focused so much on the reason why Tiffany has been calling. For some reason, it has been bugging me the whole day. What if she’s pregnant? But she didn’t look like it? I need to find out why, that’s the only way I can stop my mind from going to Crazy Town, again and staying there indefinitely.

“Will you stop? I know what you’re thinking.”

“What am I thinking, then? Can you blame me though, for thinking it?” I ask.

He runs his fingers through his hair, a sure sign of frustration. He sits down on the bed, places his elbows on his knees, clasps his hands together, and looks at me with resignation in his eyes. He knows the inquisition is about to begin.
