He refused to make eye contact. “I want you to have a good time, but I can’t help thinkin’ you might find someone better.”

“What if you find someone better ’n me?”

He looked at me incredulously. “That ain’t gonna happen, Jeff. It could never happen.”

“Okay, so how can I make sure you know I feel the exact same way? Mike, I tackled a guy with a gun ’cause he said he was gonna hurt you. I love you so much I’d give my life for you. If I haven’t shown you that already, then I don’t know how.” Mike looked shamefaced. “I’m sorry. I’m an idiot.”

“You’re startin’ to act like one. But you’re my idiot, and the cutest idiot I ever seen. Please Mike, trust me. I don’t want nobody but you. Have I done anythin’ to make you doubt me?”

“No.”

“Then please let’s go and have a good time. You’re the man I wanna dance with, and you’re the man I wanna sleep with and wake up with each and every mornin’. Jealousy is really a horrible emotion. Lack of trust in a relationship is just as bad.”

“I do trust you, Jeff.”

“Do you trust yourself?”

“Maybe that’s my problem. What if I get tempted?”

“I hope I’ll mean enough to you to resist temptation. If you go through with it, we’d talk about it and figure out where we’d go from there.”

“I don’t want nobody but you.”

“Neither of us has got a thing to worry over then. Now enough of this. I wanna go and dance, and I’m lookin’ forward to walkin’ in the bar with the handsomest man in the universe on my arm. Let’s git.” He smiled at me. We walked out and walked the four blocks to the bar. We’d taken the shuttle bus to the bar earlier and walked to the restaurant. I wanted to be able to have a few beers and not worry about drivin’.

We walked into the bar. Mike was looking around with his eyes wide. I remember the first time I’d walked in here. It was so fantastic to see cowboys dancin’ with cowboys and cowgirls dancing with cowgirls. Mike followed me closely. I reckoned that his first major taste of gay life was a bit of a culture shock for him. I bought us a couple of beers, and we headed over to a place right by the corner of the dance floor.

“This is incredible, Jeff. Look at all the guys here. I couldn’t have imagined this.”

“Give it a couple of hours. There will be three times as many guys here.” He was staring at the couples on the dance floor. Most of them were same sex, but one couple consisted of an attractive, auburn-haired lady and a buffed and handsome black man dancing together. As they twirled by, she caught my eye and I waved. She waved back and said something to the guy she was dancing with. He turned her around so he was facing me and also smiled and then nodded.

“Who are they?”

“The lady is Janet, who I told you about. The guy with her is named John. I’ve known him since I started rodeoin’. He’s got a bar somewhere in the Midwest named Cowboy John’s.” As the song ended, they came over, and Janet gave me a big hug. I heard John introducing himself to Mike. Janet then turned to Mike.

“Mike, I’m Janet. I heard Jeff had a new partner, and that the partner was one of the handsomest men on earth. I can see I was told the truth. I also heard you’re a really nice guy. Would you like to dance?”

Mike smiled and held out his hand. “Sure.”

They headed out onto the dance floor.

John turned to me. “Jeff, it’s great to see you. He is as handsome as Robert said. Seems to be a nice guy too.”

“That he is, John. I’m a lucky man.”

John laughed. “You don’t mind if I dance with him, do ya?”

“Not at all. I want him to have a good time.” We chatted for a while until the song ended. Mike and Janet walked over to us. The lights dimmed a bit, and the cowboy-boot-shaped disco ball began to spin with a light on it. Taylor Swift’s “Tim McGraw” came on. I really liked the song. Mike came over and stood next to me. Janet headed out onto the floor with John.

“Come on, let’s get that cute butt of yours out on the dance floor, cowboy.” We got on the floor and caught the rhythm. Mike took off his hat and held it with his arm around my back. He rested his head on my shoulder. I put my hand in his back pocket, and we intertwined as we danced.

“This is nice, Jeff. I like your friends. I’m sorry I acted like a doofus earlier.”

“Hush. Just know I’m as proud as hell you’re in my arms now.” He moved his head, and we kissed as I just moved us in a circle. We continued to dance around the floor. The next song was a bit faster, but still a love song, “On the Verge,” by Collin Raye. I sang the words into his ear. He melted against me. The song ended, and we made our way back to our corner. We finished our beers, and then a barback came walking over with two more and two shots of tequila.

“Compliments of the ladies, there.”

“Thanks.” I gave him a couple of bucks and looked toward the bar. Two drag queens raised their beers to us. I raised mine back, and Mike followed my lead. I’d known them from San Francisco. It’s funny, drag is really popular in the gay rodeo. I’d learned early on the drag queens donate all they get from their shows to charity. Mike was staring at them like they had two heads. I had explained before about the rodeo and drag, so he wasn’t surprised, but he probably felt like he just fell off of the turnip truck. I picked up my shot glass and raised it to them and then to Mike.

“Cheers, buddy.” He clinked glasses with me.

“Cheers.” All of a sudden the DJ put on “Cotton Eye Joe.” I grabbed Mike and dragged him onto the dance floor.

“I dunno how to do this, Jeff.”

“Just follow me. I’ll count out the steps.” After about four repetitions, he had it. I noticed Janet and a guy from San Francisco, Richard, were dancing together. “Cotton Eye Joe” is a dance where both partners face the same way and move in the same direction. Richard latched on to Mike, and all of a sudden it was the four of us. Part of the lyrics of the song yelled out “bullshit!” and we all were yelling that out. The song speeds up toward the end, and we kept up. It was a lot of fun.

Mike was getting into the swing of things and definitely enjoying himself. I introduced him to quite a few of my rodeo buddies. Gabe, the waiter from the hotel, showed up and we both danced with him. Mostly though, Mike and I danced together. I couldn’t believe it when I heard the last call for alcohol. The time had just flown by. Mike and I said our goodnights and headed out to the shuttle bus to the hotel.

It seemed like we got there quickly. We headed to our room, and no sooner than I had closed the door and locked it, Mike was in my arms with his mouth pressed against mine. I kissed him back aggressively, tasting beer, tequila, and the familiar flavor of Mike. I pushed him down on the bed. He kissed me even harder. I ground my crotch against his insistently. He pushed back.

“You’re gonna be one fucked cowboy in a few minutes, buddy.”

He moaned against me. “Please, Jeffy. Please fuck me. You got me so horned up tonight when we was dancin’ and kissin’ in front of everyone.”

“Strip.” He shucked his clothes in record time. I was still sitting on the bed. I grabbed his hand and pulled him over. I moved though, so he fell sideways, across my knees.

“I’m gonna whoop your pretty little ass good, buddy. All that worryin’ about other guys. You were a bad boy.” He moaned and stuck his ass up. I could feel his rock-hard cock against my knee.

“You’re a bad boy who needs a whoopin’, aren’t ya? You need that ass of yours tanned.”

“I been bad, Jeffy. I need a thrashin’.” I slapped my hand down on his ass. He moaned again and ground his dick into my leg. I slapped him a few more times. His ass was getting all red.

“I’ll be a good boy, Jeffy. I promise.” I smacked him again. I slowly rubbed his ass and then whacked him again. He was starting to try to spread his legs. I reached in and rubbed his cock and balls. He whimpered in pleasure.

“You learn your lesson, Mike?”

“Yes, I did. I’ll behave from now on. Really I will.”

“All right. Get the lube from my bag.” I shucked my clothes pretty quick. Mike lay down and put his legs up in the air. I put some lube on his cock, balls, and hole. I worked my finger in his ass and began rubbing his gland while I worked his balls with my other hand. His eyes rolled back in his head, and he moaned loudly when I slowly began to stroke his cock.

“Fuck me, please.”

“I will.” I just kept slowly stroking his cock and fingering his hole. “Feel good, buddy?”

“Hell, yeah. Please fuck me, Jeffy.” I pulled both hands off of him.

“I told you I would, buddy. Be patient.” He nodded. I began to finger and stroke him again. He reached up and grabbed his ankles and spread his legs wide apart.

“Hot damn, Mike. You look fuckin’ good all spread out like that for me.” He took one hand off his ankle and reached over and began to stroke my cock. I sighed in pleasure.

“Feel good, Jeff?”

“Yeah, you know what I like.”

“I do. You know what I like too. You got a familiar touch.” I crawled on top of him. I kissed him, and he opened his mouth in acceptance. I began moving my tongue gently against his. He touched back with his tongue gently. This was a slow kiss. It was a physical rejoicing of being together, being familiar. His hand continued to work my cock, getting it all slick, all ready. He finally positioned it against his ass.

“You want it bad, don’t ya?”

“I want you bad. Remember how I told you before we got together I’d never been fucked?”

“Yeah?”

“I wanted you to fuck me from the first time I saw you. I never thought I’d wanna get fucked, never thought I’d just crave it. I come to realize though, it’s you I crave.” I kissed him again, long and deep. My cock was still positioned on his hole. I looked down at him smiling up at me.

“Excuse me while I slip into something comfortable.” I slid my cock into his warm, tight hole. It felt fantastic. He whimpered and then sighed with pleasure. He wrapped his arms around my neck and his legs around my hips. I began pumping him.

“You with me there, buddy?”

“Fuck, yes. Every time you push that big cock of yours in, it hits my gland.” I pulled back a bit and looked down at him. He smiled back up at me.

“You got a beautiful smile, Jeffy. I like the way you look into my eyes when you fuck me. You fill me up.” I knew he meant with more than just my dick.

“We fill each other up, buddy. You lookin’ up at me all cow-eyed really is hot.”

“You say the most romantic things.” We both laughed. We never broke eye contact though. I was just getting off on how good he felt, all wrapped around me, arms, legs, and ass holding me tight. We continued to just look at each other. I realized that the eyes really are the windows to the soul.

“You got beautiful eyes, Mike. I never seen such beautiful, tawny-gold eyes.” He just smiled and then pushed his ass up to take me even deeper. I groaned with the feel of it. He began to ride my dick as I fucked him. He was clamping down, bucking back, and using our familiarity to anticipate my moves and make the best of them for us both.

“You like that when I fuck back, don’t you?”

“Hell yes. It’s fantastic.”

“You gettin’ close, Jeffy?”

“I am, buddy. You’re just too much.” He looked up and gauged my reaction to his clamping down. I was starting to breathe a bit heavier, and my cock felt petrified, harder than it had ever been. He noticed the signs. He began to stroke his dick in time to my thrusts. It made his ass clamp and twitch around my cock even harder. His look had become intense.

“Yeah, big fuckin’ cock inside me. Damn, you know how to use that monster you got between your legs, Jeffy.”

“You know how to fuck back, bud. We fit.” He whimpered but still maintained eye contact. I couldn’t hold back. His responsiveness, the look he was giving me, and just the feel of him wrapped around me, overcame me. I felt myself shout out as I came. All of a sudden he moaned, and I felt hot thick liquid splash across my belly. I thrust in him a few more times, and he stroked his cock a few more times, but we were both spent. After a few minutes, I got us a couple of washcloths, and we gently cleaned each other up. I looked at the clock by the bed.

“We gotta be up in four hours, bud.”

“This was worth missin’ sleep over.”

“Yep. Let’s try to get some shuteye though. We done used up this day.” He spooned into me, and we were out like a couple of lights.

Chapter Fifteen

HE
phone rang way too early. It was our wake-up call. Mike and I were both cuddled up. I felt groggy on only about four and a half hours sleep. I picked up the phone and put it down again. I nudged Mike.

“C’mon, buddy, up and at ’em.”

He mumbled, “Rodeo time?”

“You got it, bud, rodeo time.” I got up and pulled the covers off him. He sat up groggily and reached for my cock.

“We got time?”

“We’ll have to take a rain check, buddy. We need to catch the shuttle bus in an hour, so we gotta shower, get dressed, and get somethin’ to eat beforehand.”

“Okay.” He got up and we headed to the shower. We took a quick shower together and started to get dressed. All of a sudden I heard Mike swear.

“Shit!”

“What’s wrong, bud?” I turned to look at him. He was standing there wearing nothing but his socks, dress socks.

“I was pretty groggy tired when we packed, and I grabbed a bunch of socks in the dark. They’re all like this.” I let out a wolf whistle.

“You goofball. I think you look hot as hell. Just leave ’em on, and I’ll knock ’em off later.” He smiled at me and pulled on his jock. In no time, we were both dressed in jeans, beat-up boots, and brushpopper shirts. The thick material would come in handy if we did get bucked. We had our bags with our equipment and things. We had to be at the rodeo grounds at seven thirty. We weren’t in the first event, calf roping on foot. We’d planned to meet Jeanette there and help her with the horses.

was still a chill in the morning air as we headed over to the stable area. I’d been competing for quite a few years, so I knew many of the contestants. I was introducing Mike around. He was quiet. I hoped it was sleepiness rather than insecurity or jealousy. As we neared the chutes, I reached over and squeezed his butt.
