Then Schwerig mumbled under his breath, “As discrete
as one can be, flying a shining silver Christmas tree ornament
through a cloudless sky.”

“What was that Oberstleutnant?” asked Hauptman
Graff.

“Nothing,” responded Schwerig.

27 June 1947

An electronic technician from Bisbee Arizona along
with other local residents see a flying disc descend from oblivion
to a lower altitude where it could more easily be observed. Once
reaching the lower altitude, it then hovered over the town for a
few moments then flew away over the horizon in the direction of New
Mexico.

27 June 1947

A Major George B. Wilcox, a resident of Warren,
Arizona reports seeing a squadron of eight perfectly spaced discs
in an echelon formation, flying at an extremely high velocity,
flying level while still exhibiting a wobbling motion. He said that
they passed directly over his house while traveling east, and
estimated their altitude to be about 1000 feet as they passed above
the mountains on his horizon.

27 June 1947

At around 9:50 p.m. a resident of Pope, New Mexico
reported a white disc glowing like an electric light bulb passing
by his house traveling south west in the direction of White Sands
moving very quickly.

Captain E. B. Detchmendy assigned to White Sands
Missile Range, reports an identical or extremely similar aircraft
fly over the installation on a south west bearing only a few
minutes after the Pope, New Mexico sighting.

10:00 p.m. a women from San Miguel, New Mexico
reported yet another very similar sighting, a bright illuminated or
silvery disc traveling through the sky over the city in a south
western direction.

General Lemay was sitting at his desk in his office
smoking his cigar looking at a captain that was sitting in a chair
across from him.

He pushed a wooden box with a hinged top across the
desk towards the captain and offered him a cigar.

The captain politely declined.

Lemay then spoke, “Captain Ruppelt, the War
Department has hastily assigned you to be in charge of an ad hoc
group to be called Project Grudge, and they want an explanation of
what in the hell these flying saucers are before the War Department
is dismantled later this year and the Department of Defense is
started along with the new Air Force.”

“Yes sir,” responded Captain Ruppelt, “I have read
my orders and I am already working diligently on a report to be
finished in the next couple of months.”

Then Lemay said, “Captain, I am
sure that you know what your orders are. I am just trying to
explain to you the urgency of getting it done before the end of the
War Department and the transformation into the DOD… I have a bad
feeling that it is going to be a hell of a mess and God only knows
how many files are going to disappear, especially with those crazy
intelligence types. They’d burn their own damn grocery lists in
absolute paranoia that somebody outside of the military may find
and read them.”

Lemay exhaled and then continued, “I also want to
know myself why these damn things have followed us from Germany to
here. It also makes me nervous as a yard bird at a family reunion
that they have increased in frequency so recently, and that they
seem to be concentrated over the south west where ninety percent of
our secret projects are now operating.”

Lemay stood up as he continued, “I have another ad
hoc group looking into some anomalous radio signals that we need to
have explained as well, and may even be connected to the
saucers.”

The General then walked over to a window and gazed
through it for a second and softly asked, “What in the hell are
they after?”

28 June 1947

An Army Air Corp. pilot over the area of Alamogordo,
New Mexico reported watching a mysterious silver disc pass
underneath his aircraft and then disappear.

29 June 1947

Army Air Corp. pilots were scrambled to search for a
flying disc reported flying towards the east over Cliff, New
Mexico, but found nothing but an overwhelming smell of ozone from
molten metal or burning electricity.

29 June 1947

A team of Paper Clip scientists
headed by Dr. C Zohn, working on rockets at the White Sands Missile
Range, reported a silver disc flying over. At first from the west
towards the east, but then returning to fly over again and again,
as if observing their secret activity on the ground.

Schwerig was sitting at his desk in his office going
through papers when there was a knock at his door, so he yelled,
“Enter.”

The door opened and into the room walked Hauptman
Pfautsch, who quickly saluted as he hastily reported,
“Oberstleutnant Schwerig, forgive me for speaking out of order but
I have found it,” he said, beaming of his accomplishment.

“Operation Paperclip, the V-2s, you have found
them?” excitedly queried Schwerig.

“Yes, Oberstleutnant Schwerig,” stammered Pfautsch,
“I was flying along over White Sands, New Mexico when I came across
a crew working on a rocket in the desert. I circled around a couple
times and sighted a very large operation of rockets and American
Quonset huts along with hangers and other obvious signs that this
is the major headquarters of their V-2 program.”

“Well that is wunderbar,” Schwerig responded, but
then lowered his enthusiasm and got serious saying, “We must not
get too excited and think that we have figured it all out. You must
continue with your reconnaissance and locate any possible threats
to our raid. We must gather as much information as possible before
we proceed.”

“Yes, Oberstleutnant Schwerig,” said Hauptman
Pfautsch as he snapped to attention then added, “I will finish the
reconnoitering and then devise a plan for your approval as soon as
possible.”

“Very Good Hauptman,” answered Schwerig as he
appeared to return to his work. “I will look forward to receiving
it.”

Hauptman Pfautsch turned and exited.

30 June 1947

A railroad worker in Albuquerque,
New Mexico spotted thirteen silvery discs traveling in formation in
a southerly direction, then suddenly but orderly changed course to
the east, then once again returned to a course to the south. Many
others in his neighborhood were out in their yards watching the
objects as well, even though none of the others reported the
discs.

30 June 1947

A women sitting on her front porch
in Tucumcari, New Mexico saw a silvery flying saucer moving towards
the west at high speed. Once again the disc was reported to be
about half the size of a full moon. She was also able to discern
that it was moving in a whirling motion.

1 July 1947

A Chamber of Commerce executive from Albuquerque,
New Mexico reported seeing a flying disc as bright as a signal
flare but blue, zigzagging through the sky to his northwest.

In the Commanders office of the White Sands Missile
Range, Capt. Hanson was sitting in front of an electric fan
conducting a futile effort of placing paper weights on files to
keep them from blowing away while being careful not to allow the
sweat dripping from his arms to drip onto the neatly typed
documents as the phone rang.

Picking up the ringing phone, he answered, “White
Sands… Hanson.”

He immediately perked up in disbelief as he
responded, “Yes General Lemay, it is wonderful to hear from you,
what can I do for you sir?”

After a brief pause he continued, “Why yes we have
been seeing a lot of very odd things in the sky.”

“What have I been telling my men? Well sir, I have
been telling them that this is a secret missile test range, they
should have known that they would be seeing strange things in the
sky.”

Hanson looked suddenly confused as
he continued, “Yes sir, I believe that they ‘are’ buying
it.”

“Yes, Mr. Volmer has returned to his duties
here.”

“What was that sir? I am to allow him to travel back
and forth between White Sands and Roswell Army Air Force Field.
What would that be for sir?”

“Because the plane that he was working on at McChord
is now going to be stationed at R.A.A.F. and the weather balloon
outfit is going to be stationed there as well. Yes sir, to help run
backgrounds for the Trinity test fallout. I see sir.”

“And I assume that the General wants me to relay all
of this to Mr. Volmer.”

Hanson’s facial expression suddenly changed to one
of great discomfort.

“No sir, I don’t think my mother would have ever
dropped me when I was a baby.”

“Yes sir I’ll extend carte blanche
to Mr. Volmer. Everything that you told me.”

“Thank you sir, I will,” as he frowned at the phone
as he hung up the receiver.

1 July 1947

A Mr. and Mrs. Munn reported that they were able to
observe a large flying saucer hovering over Phoenix while moving
towards the east.

2 July 1947

A Roswell, New Mexico couple witnessed a large
glowing disc fly over their neighborhood traveling to the northwest
at a great velocity.

“Well I have come across some good news to
convey to you Hauptman Pfautsch,” beamed Schwerig as he stood in a
New Swabian corridor.

“Wunderbar, what would that be Oberstleutnant
Schwerig?”

“It seems that I have received some new
correspondence from our mole within the paper clip scientists. He
has forwarded us a map of the facilities giving us the floor plans
and descriptions of building uses as well as the location of
Volmer’s quarters.”

“That will be of immense use for us.”

“Yes,” continued Schwerig, “He also writes
that we may not have to worry about being sighted as much as we
were because all of the Americans have seen too many Hollywood
movies and believe that all of our saucers are actually little
green men from Mars.”

At that they both burst into laughter.

Pfautsch put his hands on his head with his
index fingers extended to mime antennae and said in a funny voice,
“Take me to your leader.”

They both continued laughing until Schwerig
got serious enough to talk and said, “But seriously, I don’t
believe that their military will be as naive. So be sure to keep
monitoring their military bases and their responses to reported
sightings of our craft until the mission.”

Hauptman Pfautsch, still biting his lips to
fight off a chuckle answered, “Yes Oberstleutnant, I will
immediately.”

6 July 1947

It was the typical hot and humid afternoon
that one might expect in east central Kansas.

The Crew of a post war B-25 was flying from
Fort Riley in the west of Kansas towards Kansas City on the Kansas
- Missouri border. Flying, not to far at all, from the planes birth
place in Wichita.

Every one in the bomber, including the
officers, has stripped their flight suits down to their waist,
exposing their t-shirts and opened all of the windows, which only
gave minor comfort to the crewmen sitting in a non climate
controlled airplane.

The Engineer/Gunner and the Radio/Gunner were
sitting on the floor of the tail section, by the waist guns,
playing cards, when the tail gunner sitting at his post screamed
excitedly, “Hey you guys. You need to get up off your asses and
take a look-see at this!”

The airmen playing cards looked up and asked,
“What the hell is it?”

“Look out the right waist gunner’s window,
low and to our 5:00,” hurriedly explained the tail gunner.”

The two crew members that had been playing
cards reluctantly got up and gazed out of the waist gunner’s
window.

They looked quietly for a moment until the
Engineer/Gunner spouted, “Oh my God, What the hell is that?”

He couldn’t believe what he saw. Now he knew
what the tail gunner had been so excited about.

It was a silver disc, approaching slowly like
it was pacing them or checking them out. He hadn’t seen anything
maneuver up to him like that since enemy fighters during the
war.

The Radio/Gunner started to fool with his
head set, but then abandoned that idea and scrambled through the
bomber to the pilot shouting, “I have to tell the captain!”

When he had finally reached the
‘front-enders’, he lunged his body between the two and yelled,
“Captain, a flying saucer is coming up behind us on our 5
o’clock.”

The pilot looked at the co-pilot, who had
already turned to look out his window to his right, then stating
loud enough for the captain to hear, “Oh my God, it’s going to
overtake us and pass.”

The co-pilot then turned to the captain and
gestured for him to look as he said, “Quick, low to the right.”

As the captain looked over the control panel,
he could see the disc shooting ahead of them at a lower altitude.
Looking like it was on the same course but at a much higher
velocity.

They stood silent as they watched it
disappear over the horizon in front of them.

Then the pilot turned to the others who were
both looking at him now and said, “What the hell are they going to
think when we tell them about this?”

7 July 1947

An Army Air Force test pilot at Muroc Dry
Lake Bed, California, (Later named Edwards AFB), was testing an
XP-85 on the runway when he and his ground crew witnessed a saucer
floating in a whirling or wobbling motion, but still flying strait.
They watched as it flew along the horizon and disappeared over the
mountains.

8 July 1947

People on the ground at Muroc Dry Lake again
saw something in the sky, but this time it was two silver discs.
They watched as the two appeared to drop out of the sky to a lower
altitude and then fly in formation around the base a couple of
times before departing over the valley towards Mojave California.
Many other reports from the base and from the vicinity around it,
poured in as the day went on.
