Introduction – 2014 Version
Notes on the Revised Introduction
During the past year, the author and her family and friends spent a lot of quality time at good old
Disneyland
, delving into new fun, new excitement, and new secrets.
We explored and taste-tested and debunked
and discovered.
We rolled up our sleeves and did serious research … and we laughed and played like kids.
No task was too daunting. My sister and I hiked miles in Pasadena to locate and capture snapshots of the fountain—the actual Water & Power fountain—on which
DCA
’s
Carthay Circle Fountain
is modeled.
Disneyland
presented a lot of
magical
surprises in 2013 as it geared up for 2014.
Mickey and the Magical Map
debuted at the
Fantasyland Theatre
. The resort served Christmas treats in July.
Iron Man
’s armor was displayed at
Innoventions
, even giving Guests a chance to “virtually” try on the metal suits.
Thor
dropped by later in the year.
The Lone Ranger
premiered at
DCA
, and
Tonto
,
Silver
, and the
Lone Ranger
made appearances. The summer was “monstrous” fun—even with the strict enforcement of
FastPass
rules. The autumn saw an overhauled
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
steaming closer to completion, and witnessed the historic opening of
Starbucks
on
Main Street
.
All of the hoopla was grand. But perhaps the greatest thrills of the past year were opportunities to
hear
Disney
expert
Dave Smith
speak while he displayed rare color slides of early
Disneyland
, and to meet
Disney Legend Marty Sklar
at the
Main Street Opera House
where he signed copies of his new book
“Dream It! Do It!”
