The practice of observing a special time of prayer during the night.
Midrash
(Heb., ‘interpretation’). Type of Jewish literature mainly concerned with the interpretation of
biblical
texts. The
aggadic
midrashim seek to derive a moral principle or theological concept from scriptures, while the
halakhic
midrashim aim to explain the full meaning of a biblical law.
