Once inside, she could hear him barking orders to Sparrow, and Leila felt her heart pound harder. She had come to care for Sparrow as if he were her very own younger brother. Tol'sar abused Sparrow, yelling orders at him, and belittling him if he didn’t do as Tol'sar wished. And yet, Sparrow carried on with a smile, letting everything roll off him. It infuriated Leila, and she made sure to always tell Sparrow how much she appreciated him. Leila followed Tol’sor’s deep voice until she found him in the sitting room, looking at a number of spears that were laid out on freshly unwrapped paper.

“He calls these spears?” Tol'sar was ranting to Sparrow. Disgusted, he dropped the one in his hand and let it clatter to the table. “Return them immediately and tell the old fool he better make me some real spears or I’ll take my business elsewhere.”

Sparrow nodded, scurrying to gather up the discarded weapons.

“Tol'sar,” Leila said from the doorway, “I need to speak with you.”

“Not now. I’m busy.”

“This can’t wait.” Tol'sar wasn’t used to taking orders from Leila, and he raised his eyebrows, his dark eyes taking on a menacing glint. “We can talk in here if you like,” she said, entering the room. She felt Tol’sor’s greedy eyes roam over her body, lingering on her chest, which was getting bigger every day.

“I think we should talk in your bedroom,” he said slyly, rising. The bulge in his pants was impossible to miss. Leila felt annoyance creep over her. She wanted to have a serious talk with Tol'sar, and he only had one thing on his mind.

“Fine, but we’re talking first,” Leila snapped, before turning on her heel. She knew that Tol'sar wouldn’t like that she snapped at him, but she was too aggravated to care. She knew there was no avoiding Tol'sar when he wanted something; Tol'sar had made it clear that Leila belonged to him and he could have her any time he wanted.

She climbed the stairs to her bedroom, and pulled one of the curtains so the room wasn’t so bright. A few moments later she heard the door shut and she turned to face her husband.

“Temper, temper,” Tol'sar chided, his eyes gleaming.

“I told you that I wanted to
talk
,” she said emphasizing the last word.

“Yes, and I want to
fuck
,” he responded, in the same patronizing tone.

“Fine, but hear me first.” Tol'sar paused, waiting to hear what Leila had to say. “Maggie’s son Siamas has a wife, Bethany,” she began.

“Yes, I know Siamas’ wife,” Tol'sar said, rolling his eyes.

“Well, she’s been missing for two days.” Tol’sor’s head snapped up; now Leila had his attention. “They’ve been looking for her,” she rushed on, “but they’ve had no luck. I thought you should know, given your position.”

“What happened? When did she disappear?” Tol'sar asked. While some of the men treated their females like property, the female human was still fiercely protected in the tribes. After all, they were the reason that the tribes were able to exist. And Bethany was pregnant, like Leila, thus making her an even more valued commodity.

“I don’t know the details. You’ll have to ask Maggie.”

Leila watched as Tol'sar wrestled with his thoughts. She knew he was anxious to pursue the missing pregnant female, but she could still see the lust burning in his dark eyes. “I’ll speak with her in a few minutes,” he said gruffly, desire winning out as he closed the distance between them.

He came to Leila, turning her around so her back was pressed against his body, and he ran his hands over her stomach and breasts. He squeezed at her breasts through the material of her dress, and Leila couldn’t help moaning. Pregnancy had made her own sexual needs grow. Tol'sar grunted, pushing Leila down towards the bed, and Leila caught herself with her hands. Tol'sar reached between her legs and tore off her panties, running his fingers through her tender folds.

Leila rocked on her hands and knees, giving herself over to her husband and letting him take control. She knew Tol'sar would be quick, especially since he now had business waiting. “You’re so wet,” he groaned, “Always ready for me.”

She heard him fumble with his pants, she felt his hard erection pressing against her. Tol'sar pulled her dress up, revealing her bottom, and he ran his hands over it, squeezing at her supple skin. Tol’sor’s hands were everywhere, against her behind, between her legs and tugging at her nipples. A moment later, Tol'sar moved closer behind her and Leila felt him push into her.

Leila cried out, unable to keep quiet as she felt Tol'sar fill her. She had grown accustomed to his enormous size in fact. He started off slowly, pushing in and out of her, and Leila threw her head back, feeling a few pieces of her hair come undone. Tol'sar liked to pull her hair, and Leila wondered if he would yank it out so he could tug it. But Tol'sar didn’t, and instead he played with her behind, spreading her open, as he continued to drive into her. Tol’sor’s hand came down hard against her skin.

“Ah!” she cried out as she felt the sting of his smack. Tol'sar took sick pleasure in spanking her, yet Leila had to admit that over the months it had started to turn her on. Tol'sar was rubbing her shoulder, grunting loudly as he began to thrust with his full force and speed. It was times like this where Leila felt his savageness and knew he wasn’t completely human. His animal instincts took over as he plunged into Leila again and again, holding firmly onto her backside. It took all of Leila’s strength to keep herself upright, and then Tol’sor’s hand was against her clitoris, rubbing it with impossible speed.

Leila felt the growing orgasm, and seconds later it tore through her, forcing her to yell out as she bucked on the bed. Tol'sar finished moments later, crying out brutishly as he poured himself into her. He pulled himself out quickly, and Leila collapsed on the bed, waiting for Tol'sar to leave her.

Tol'sar pulled out of his wife and grabbed her ruined panties to wipe himself off. He quickly slipped himself back in his pants and straightened his clothes. Leila was splayed across the bed, her swollen belly rising and falling as she reeled from her orgasm. Tol'sar left her there, looking beautifully raunchy, dripping in jewels and his own fluids, her blue eyes bright with arousal and her golden hair elegantly twisted on top of her head.

Tol'sar thought he might come again just looking at her. She was worth every second he had fought for her. Leila was the most stunning female he had ever set eyes on and he knew every member of the Usari Ravagers envied him. And rightfully, so. He had
earned
Leila. Grudgingly, Tol'sar had to admit that Leila was more than just a gorgeous woman, though he didn’t much care for the other parts of her. He was more concerned with her looks and the way she carried herself. And making sure she obeyed him; that was required. But he also knew that Leila had a good heart, and he could only imagine the filth she must have lived in at North Point.

He would never admit it to her, but it pleased him to give her fine things, to give her luxuries she never could have dreamed of in her mucky city. It made him feel powerful. So, Tol'sar gave her everything she could dream of, knowing full well he would never give her more. He didn’t care to be close to his wife emotionally, or anyone else for that matter. He had no time for emotions. He had a region to run and people to oversee. Leave fickle emotions like love to the meek like Sparrow and Siamas. While both were good workers in their own right, Tol'sar saw how those emotions got in their way. They would never be successful like Tol'sar. One couldn’t achieve great things if he wasn’t willing to squash people along the way.

Tol'sar made his way downstairs and barked for Maggie. She came scurrying into the room, her eyes wide and fearful. Tol'sar didn’t care that Maggie feared him; he preferred it that way. He sat her down and made her tell him everything she knew about Bethany.

Three weeks passed without any word of Bethany. Every day Leila asked Tol'sar if he had any new information, to which Tol'sar grimly shook his head. Leila would stand at her bedroom window and watch the other tribe members meet up by the riverbank, Tol'sar included. The men would shift into great hulking bears, snarling loudly before running off towards the trees. Leila knew they could pick up scents better in their bear form, and Leila imagined that all senses were probably heightened. But day after day, they came across no scents, and no clues. It was as if Bethany had vanished into thin air.

One particularly lonely day, Leila found herself homesick for her mother. She was in the sitting room, watching the river rush by, amazed by its beauty but saddened to be alone. She saw how some of the men loved their wives, and she envied those women. She heard distant voices and thought nothing of it. But then she heard a shout of protest and loud footsteps. Just as she was rising to see what the commotion was about, the door to the sitting room flung open and a handsome man stood there, fuming.

Maggie came bursting into the room. “Siamas! I told you to leave! The master is not here! I told you to come back!”

Leila tried to process what was going on but she was too distracted by the man before her. She had only seen Siamas from a distance, never up close. He was tall and lean, his muscles pulsing just below the surface. His eyes, so unlike Tol’sor’s were bright, yet angry. She could see that Siamas was at some type of breaking point.

Leila tore her eyes away from Siamas and held her hand up to Maggie. “It’s all right Maggie,” she turned to Siamas. “I’m sorry, but Tol'sar isn’t home. Can I help you with something?”

Siamas stared at her, his bright green eyes widening in surprise at something Leila said. She saw his face soften. “Leave us, Mother,” he spoke, his eyes never leaving Leila. Maggie looked at Leila apologetically. Leila gave her a small smile and nodded; she wasn’t angry at Maggie. Maggie closed the door behind her.

“Please. Sit down,” Leila said, motioning to the one of the chairs. She rubbed her belly absentmindedly and made her way towards a chair, her long yellow and white dress grazing the floor. Siamas sat, and Leila gingerly lowered herself into the chair across from him.

“You’re not what I expected,” he said evenly, his eyes moving over her. Her hair was long and loose today, and she had layered on gold bracelets. She liked the way they jangled when she moved. Something about Siamas’ look made her feel exposed.

“You’re not what I expected either,” she said honestly. She hadn’t expected him to be so handsome, or for her to feel undressed beneath his burning gaze.

Siamas looked somewhat sheepish and looked down at the floor. “You’re very beautiful,” he mumbled, “I’m sorry for staring.”

Leila couldn’t help the small sliver of bitterness engulf her. She let out a hard laugh. “The pretty wife that spends her days alone in the big house.” She clasped her hand over her mouth, instantly ashamed. “I shouldn’t have said that,” she whispered.

But Siamas seemed to understand. “It’s fine. Your secret’s safe with me.” He paused. “Bethany really liked you.”

Leila’s face twisted in sadness. “Is that why you’re here? Is there any news?”

The change in Siamas’ face was instant. His mouth turned into an angry snarl. “Please tell your husband to stop with the antics.”

Leila looked at him with surprise. “I’m sorry – but I don’t follow you.”

Siamas jumped up. “I know what he’s covering up! I know she’s not coming back! I just wish he would stop with the charade.”

Leila stared at Siamas in shock. Was he insinuating that Tol'sar knew what happened to Bethany but wasn’t telling him? “Siamas, I promise, if there was something Tol'sar knew…” but her voice trailed off. Because the truth was that Tol'sar didn’t share anything with her. She couldn’t make promises to Siamas if she didn’t know the truth herself.

“I’ll try to find out what I can,” she whispered.

Siamas’ face softened and he reached out to touch Leila’s hand. The energy between them was electric, and Leila felt the tug within her, pulling her towards him. She yanked her hand back in surprise. Siamas seemed just as shocked.

“Thank you,” he stuttered, clearly uneasy about the moment between them. He turned to leave the room. Just as he was through the door, he turned back around to look at her.

“Just because Bethany’s life is over, doesn’t mean that yours has to be too,” he said quietly.

Leila wanted to call after him, to demand what Siamas meant, but deep down she knew. Siamas had seen her, really
seen
her. He had seen her emptiness, saw the shell that was her life.

Pain tore through Leila’s chest at the realization of what her life had become, of what the rest of her life would look like. Day in and day out, utterly alone. All the riches in the world couldn’t buy her the kind of attention she craved. As she watched Siamas walk down the long drive, she doubled over in pain, physical pain. She held her stomach and cried out for Maggie as a splash of water soaked the floor beneath her.
