Once in an empty lane, Rell quickly stomped on his brakes. Once the motorcycle past by, Rell put the pedal to the medal. “Fuck,” Diesil screamed out because now Rell was chasing him. “Fuck it, I’ll catch his ass next time,” he said to himself as he quickly got off at the next exit.

Chapter 35

THE RECOVERY

Ever since Spanky’s accident, Christie quit working at the strip club. Her whole way of thinking had changed; nothing was worth having Spanky leave her. Everything in the future would be for Spanky. Christie jumped with fright when Freddie entered the room. “Hey Freddie, I didn’t even hear you come in,” Christie said. “I didn’t mean to startle you,” Freddie said politely as he kissed Christie on the cheek.

“How’s it going champ,” Freddie asked looking at Spanky. “I’m cool,” he replied with a smile. “That’s what I like to hear,” Freddie said feeling sorry for the young man that he basically raised in the gym. “The doctor said my arms should be back to normal in eight to ten weeks, giving me six months to get ready for the fight,” Spanky said excitedly.

Freddie looked at the floor before he spoke. “Umm…I was thinking you should cancel the fight and give your body a whole year to recover.” “A whole year,” Spanky echoed. “If I don’t fight The Terminator now, I ain’t going to never get another title shot and you know it.”

You just going to have to work your way back up to the top.” “You talking like it’s just that simple,” Spanky said as a tear escaped his eye. “I worked all my life for this fight, now you want me to cancel it because of a few broken bones?”

This is not a game. You could get killed out there in that ring if you ain’t careful,” Freddie warned. “Well I’d rather die in the ring instead of a hospital bed any day,” Spanky said with a disgusted look on his face. “I don’t care if I get killed in the ring or if I lose, you know why? Because later on in life people can say, “Damn I remember when Spanky fought for the title,” not, “Damn he would’ve fought for the title if he didn’t get jumped in the parking lot.” I’ve worked my whole life for this opportunity, I can’t just sit back and let it slip away like that.”

“I’m guessing you okay with this since you ain’t saying nothing,” Freddie said looking at Christie for a comment. “Whatever Spanky decides to do I’m going to back him up a hundred percent,” Christie retorted calmly.

“Spanky listen to me, you are like the son I never had and I don’t want to see you get hurt, so please think this over,” Freddie pleaded.

There’s nothing to think about,” Spanky replied coldly. “I’m not missing up on this opportunity no matter what! A opportunity like this only comes around once in a lifetime and I’m not missing my opportunity,” he said looking at Christie and Freddie.

You right, there’s a chance I could get hurt but there’s also a chance I won’t. Now what I need to know is will you be there to train me when I step foot back in that gym?”

I don’t know, I’ll have to think about this. I need a drink,” Freddie said as he stormed out of the hospital room.

“Well fuck you then,” Spanky yelled as loud as he could. “I’ll train by my fucking self,” he said mad at the world because he was laid up in a hospital bed. “It’s going to be okay boo,” Christie said as she placed the straw in Spanky’s mouth so he could drink some water.

Seconds later Ali entered the room with a look of concern on his face. “How you feeling little bro,” he asked fiddling his thumbs. “Much better now,” Spanky said smiling from ear to ear. “What took you so long to come see me?” “You know it hurts me to see you all fucked up like this, especially when it’s my beef that got you laying up in this fucking hospital in the first place.”

Nah, it’s not your fault. This could’ve happened to anybody,” he told his older brother. “No, everybody knows that this is all my fault, but don’t worry I got my best soldiers out hunting that cock sucker right now.”

Thank you, I appreciate it,” Spanky said feeling sorry for his older brother. “I feel horrible inside,” Ali said emptily. “Don’t worry about it everything happens for a reason,” Spanky spoke calmly.

“When you get up out of here?” “Tomorrow, I can’t wait.” “When does your cast get removed?” “In eight to ten weeks,” Spanky said proudly.

Aight, I’m out of here. Keep your head up,” Ali said as he headed for the door.

Why you leaving so soon,” Spanky asked. “Because I can’t stand to see you all fucked up like this,” Ali said as he kissed Christie on the cheek and made his exit.

Chapter 36

WHAT YOU WANNA DO?

I shot his whole back window out. I know I had to hit whoever was in the back seat,” Diesil boasted. “So you want me and the goons to stay on this Rell nigga?” “I really don’t even care no more,” Ali spoke calmly. Everyone looked on in amazement. “Yo, you felling alright,” G-money asked.

“Yeah I’m just tired of all this killing,” Ali said emptily. “If we keep this thing going on the killing is never going to stop,” he said trying to drop some knowledge.

I started doing this to get up enough money so I could open up some businesses to uplift our people. If we keep this war going, all I’m going to be doing is killing my own people, and basically what I’m trying to say is I don’t want that blood on my hands no more, so from now on G-money is in charge. Anybody have any questions ya’ll go see G-money,” Ali said dryly.

I understand what you going through,” G-money whispered in Ali’s ear as he gave his best friend a hug. “I want all of ya’ll to know that I love all of ya’ll, and I’m officially out of the game. If ever anybody want to change their life and get out the game ya’ll know where to find me,” Ali said depressingly as he made his exit.

Once Ali was out the door G-money took over. “Ali is just feeling down about his little brother. We going to continue on with the regular plan; Rell and Detective Nelson have to go no questions asked,” G-money confirmed. “Lets make Ali proud and get rid of these two scum bags.”

With that being said Skip, Diesil and the rest of the soldiers went back out on their man hunt.

What the fuck you mean, he out the game,” Detective Nelson barked into the phone. “He just up and quit out the blue,” Big Mel spoke softly. “What do I pay you for,” Detective Nelson asked making Big Mel feel like a child.

Listen, you told me to keep you updated on what’s going on and that’s exactly what I’m doing. If you don’t like how I do it, then I suggest you find somebody better for the job,” Big Mel raved. “I think I just might do that,” Detective Nelson said hanging up in Big Mel’s ear.

“Who was you on the phone with,” Ali asked suspiciously. “Oh…that was my mom’s,” Big Mel lied quickly. “Tell her I said hello next time you speak to her.” “I will,” Big Mel said relieved Ali didn’t fish for more questions.

Yo Ali can I ask you something?” “Yeah, what’s on your mind?” “Why did you just up and quit like that,” Big Mel asked. “It comes a time in your life when you just have to grow up; you know what I’m saying? Butch is dead, Spanky’s in the hospital all fucked up, G-money about to do three and a half years in a couple of months, and a whole bunch of other soldiers is locked up and in jail all because of me! I’m the leader, so I’m responsible. Oh I almost forgot about lil’ Andre. He was only sixteen and he got his head blown off for pumping crack for me,” Ali said disgustedly.

“I never looked at it like that,” Big Mel said letting Ali’s words marinate for a minute. “You see what I’m saying Mel? I could’ve been got out the game, but then that would’ve been selfish of me. The reason I stayed in it so long was so I could build up something for my people and try to give back. I’ve accomplished that, now I’m done.”

I ain’t mad at you for that,” Big Mel said as he poured him and Ali a drink. “To a new beginning,” Big Mel said raising his glass. “To a new beginning,” Ali echoed as the two clinked their glasses.

So what’s the baby’s name,” Coco asked as she held the cute little baby in her arms. “Ali,” Nancy answered. “Word,” Coco asked in disbelief. “Yeah I’m serious.” “Ali didn’t have a problem with that,” Coco asked as she began to feed the baby. “Not at all; he’s the best man in the world,” Nancy boasted as she continued to get dressed. “He does things that other men are not willing to do or are scared to do,” she said as she slid her feet into her three inch heels. Nancy was the happiest chick in the world. Not only did she have a good man and a beautiful baby boy, but most of all she could wear her old clothes again. When it was all said and done, Nancy looked like a million bucks when she finished getting dress.

“Where you going,” Ali asked as he entered the master bedroom. “Me and Coco about to go shopping and pick up a few things. What’s wrong, you need me to do something,” Nancy asked noticing the worried look on Ali’s face. “Nah, I just need to talk to you real quick before you go,” he spoke softly.

“Coco can you excuse us for a second.” “No problem; I’ll be downstairs in the living room when ya’ll done,” Coco said as she excused herself. “Baby what’s wrong? It look like something has been bothering you for this past week,” Nancy said rubbing Ali’s lower back.

I quit the game,” Ali said. “It’s all over.” “That’s great, but why do you look so sad?” “I just been thinking about all the people who got hurt because of me,” he said looking at the floor.

It’s okay baby you can’t change the past. Look at me,” she said lifting up Ali’s head. “It’s okay, you did what you had to do, now it’s all over,” Nancy whispered placing a soft kiss on Ali’s lips.

“It’s like my whole life has been fucked up. I been doing this for as long as I can remember; I’m just happy it’s finally over.” He paused and then said, “I’m just happy it’s over.”

Poor baby,” Nancy said giving Ali a big hug. “So what are you going to do now?” “Well now I’m going to start focusing all of my attention on these businesses, and my wife.” “Wife,” Nancy echoed loudly. “I know you joking right,” she asked seriously. “Yeah, I said wife,” he said lifting his eyes from the floor.

Nancy looked at Ali closely. “You mean to tell me you been married all this time,” she asked coldly. “Of course not,” Ali replied as he stood up only to drop down to one knee. “I m m not married yet,” he remarked as he fished around his pocket until he found what he was looking for.

Nancy will you marry me,” he asked opening up the ring box revealing a five karat rock. “Of course I will,” Nancy sobbed happily as tears rolled freely down her cheeks.

Ali placed the ring on her finger, and kissed his new fiancée with passion. “I knew you was the one from the day I first laid eyes on you,” he whispered in her ear as they hugged each other for about five minutes.

Nancy wanted to hold on to the feeling she was feeling forever. “From this day forward I’m starting off fresh. Everything I do is going to be done right,” Ali vowed. “Whatever you choose to do, I just want you to know that I’m behind you one hundred percent,” Nancy said sincerely. “I know boo,” Ali replied with a smile.

Go enjoy your self with Coco. When you get back we’ll go out to eat.” “Okay babes,” Nancy said planting a wet juicy kiss on Ali’s lips. She then rushed to the living room to show off her new ring.

“Girl you ain’t going to believe this.” Nancy excitedly ran to the living room. “Damn you scared the shit outta me,” Coco jumped slightly startled. “Look,” Nancy said as she flashed the fat rock in Coco’s face. “Tell me that’s not what I think it is,” Coco asked smiling from ear to ear.

Nancy didn’t reply, she just nodded her head slowly with a big kool-aid smile on her face.

You lucky bitch,” Coco spat playfully. “You don’t know how much I love that man,” Nancy sobbed as she began to cry again. “I am so happy for you,” Coco said emotionally. “If anybody deserves it, its you.”

Thanks for always being there for me.” Nancy sobbed as she gave Coco and little Ali a hug. “Stop all that crying, today is suppose to be the happiest day of your life! Now lets go shop until we drop, and get this baby some more clothes.” Coco grinned.
