He holds onto one of my breasts, squeezing hard enough to give me both pain and pleasure, then kisses me, delicately, running his tongue everywhere but on my swollen clit where I want it most. I moan, running my fingers through his hair, bucking toward him, needing more.

He just teases me, bringing me close to the edge, and then stops. He gets out of bed and reaches into the drawer of the bedside table. I turn my head away, trying not to think about whether or not he’s ever done this with someone else in this place as I listen to the crinkling sound of the condom wrapper coming apart.

I inch up closer to the headboard, crossing my legs to try to sooth the unfulfilled ache, and sink my head into the pillows, staring up at the ceiling. I clutch the blanket beneath me with tight fists, breathing hard as he returns to the bed. I’m both terrified at this, at how I feel about Kaidan… and exhilarated.

He lays at my side and turns my face toward his, then kisses me again, softly, while running his hand lightly along my breast. I taste myself on his lips, and it nearly drives me over the edge with longing. He’s not hiding his own lust anymore—there’s open desire on his face.

A delicious thrill surges through me at what’s about to happen, and I allow him to force my closed legs back open. He lowers himself between them and stares down at me, holding himself up for a moment, the hard length of him pressed against my slick entrance.

I wiggle beneath him, and he responds by driving himself into me. We moan at the relief, at the ecstasy of our bodies joining.

He eases in and out, slow at first, his gaze never leaving mine. There’s a sharp ache as I stretch to accommodate him, but after that, there’s only pleasure as he brings us both higher and higher. He speeds up, driving himself into me harder, faster. I lose myself in the rhythm of it, in the haze of lust, and I can’t hold back my cries at the intensity of it all.

He pulls out of me, and I gasp, wanting him back, needing him to fill the empty space inside me, but he gently rolls me onto my stomach. And I know what he wants, because I want it, too. As he kneels behind me, I get on all fours and spread my legs wide for him, arching my back. I glance over my shoulder at him, my eyes half-closed with pleasure, and he rests his hands on my ass and squeezes, then plunges into me from behind. He works my clit with one hand as he keeps up his steady rhythm, hitting my G-spot over and over until my arms start to shake, the task of holding me up too much.

His cock seems to get harder and even bigger as he drives it into me, and my body responds, climbing higher until I’ve reached the peak. I let out a cry as I go over the edge, and pleasure hits me in a wave. My pussy tightens around him, throbs as he lets out a moan and cums with me.

He stays inside me for a moment as we catch our breath, and then I let out a sigh as he pulls out. I collapse to the bed and roll over to my back as he disappears into the bathroom.

I wipe the sweat from my forehead, panting, and smile to myself. That was everything I’d fantasized about. And more.

Then he’s back, laying in bed beside me. He takes in the sight of me, laying naked, satisfied, and unashamed. I bask in the glow of us, and he smiles and trails his finger between my breasts.

He gives me a slow kiss, and when he pulls back, I see something new in his brown eyes—something that wasn’t there before.

“That was…” I trail off, blushing, suddenly feeling very exposed.

“Amazing,” he finishes, his voice soft. He kisses me again, and I cuddle up to him, resting my head on his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart.

I feel light, at ease, like I’ve always been here, like I fit perfectly into his arms, and there was never a time when I wasn’t here. I breathe in the post-sex scent of us and close my eyes. I’m happy. Truly happy.

I drift in and out of sleep, and at some point he turns off the lights and pulls the covers over our naked bodies.

But when I wake up to morning light streaming through the windows, I find myself alone.

Kaidan’s gone.

I blink against the bright light streaming through the windows and throw my legs over the edge of the bed. Kaidan’s not in the room… but he probably just left so I could freshen up. That was considerate.

I find my panties and the shirt where I dropped them, but Kaidan’s clothes are gone. I yawn and go into the bathroom to freshen up before I go out into the living room. I grin at my reflection in the mirror, unable to suppress the light happiness racing through me.

I don’t care about the paps or any of it right now. I’m finally happy. And it’s all because of Kaidan.

I nearly skip out to the main living area, expecting to find him with some coffee or something. But I don’t see him.

“Kaidan?” I call, my voice hesitant.

Then my gaze lands on the kitchen table. Last night’s dishes are piled high on the room service cart, and in the center of the table is my folded gown and clutch. I hurry over to it and see there’s a note on top of my gown. I swallow and pick it up.

Sorry. Had to go in to work. I’ll call you soon. My driver will take you home when you’re ready.

-K

My stomach lurches at the words, and my chest tightens.

Okay, so he just had to go to work, right? What’s the big deal? Why the hell do I feel like an abandoned puppy dog?

I drop the note on the table and change into the gown. It’s still covered in stains, but at least it’s dry and smells clean. I pick up my clutch and recover my heels from the master bedroom where I left them, and then I head to the front door.

One of Kaidan’s guards is still standing outside, which is creepy, yet reassuring.

“Kaidan said his driver would take me home?”

The man nods. “I’ll knock when he arrives.”

“Thanks.” I close the door and lean against it, feeling empty. Why do I feel this way? I should still be happy.

My phone beeps, and I get it out of my clutch. There are a dozen texts from Char, all of them about whatever
ScandalLust
is saying. I refuse to look. I was there. I know what happened, and I don’t feel like reliving it.

I freeze as I see who else I have messages from. Rowan. A ton of them.

I open them up and lift a hand to my mouth. He’s sent me several pictures, all of an apartment. I flip through the images, my heart pounding.

The front door, busted in. A living room, glass table smashed, DVDs and books torn from a shelf and scattered. A bedroom with drawers turned out. Then an image of a desk, bare, random cords sticking out from the walls.

I don’t find a text message, but I do have a voicemail. Rowan called me several times last night. I type in my voicemail code with shaking hands. What the hell happened? Rowan’s recorded message plays, left at 10:12 p.m. last night.

“Sorry I doubted you, Hay. You were right. I saw those assholes following me in their black SUV, and then I came home to a trashed apartment. They stole my shit—all my recording equipment. But if they think they can fuck with me, they’re wrong. I’m going after them. And you won’t have to worry about them after I get through with them.”

I let out a little sob as the message ends. Oh my God. Luis and Carlos went after my brother. And now he’s going after
them
. If I don’t stop him, he’s going to get himself killed. He has no idea how dangerous they are.

When I call him back, his phone just rings and rings, going to voicemail every time.

The guard knocks on the door, and I’m numb, barely listening as he tells me the driver is waiting.

I get on the elevator and stare at my reflection as I ride it down to the lobby. I look at my limp dirty-blond hair, my stained dress, my stunned expression. I need to get home to my car so I can find my brother and stop him from whatever he’s planning.

I just hope I’m not too late.
