“I tried to ring him but there was no answer. I'll try again later. Well, if I'm allowed to stay that long? I wouldn't dream of getting in the way of you and lover boy!”

Amy sat down next to me. “I don't want you to go” she whispered. I sat up and looked at her. Her big brown eyes were low and sad. I reached out for her hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. “I'm just scared things will get complicated.”

Complicated?

What was that meant to mean?

Amy shrugged and regained her normal self. “You know what? Just ignore me. All the sex has fucked up my head literally.”

I gave a little laugh. “Well, any time you need some privacy let me know. I'll get out your way.” I gave my best friend a massive hug. I was pleased I didn't have to leave.

I placed Maxwell’s morning coffee down on his desk and watched as he spoke on the phone. His thumb brushed against his lip, just like it normally did when he was in deep thought. His hair was all floppy and he was dressed in that navy suit which showed off his perfect body.  He looked every itch the master of his universe.

He spun in his chair and gave his smile when he realized I was watching him. With his free hand he tapped his lap. I instantly took my place and wrapped my arms around his neck.  He smelt amazing like he always did. I had only been away from him one night and I had missed him like crazy.

“Okay, I'll call you back” He put the phone down and all his attention focused on me. He kissed my forehead and his fingers began to twirl round in my hair. “I missed you.”

I looked at him surprised. He was feeling the exact way I was. “Really, Mr Thomas?” I replied in a joking manner. “You are getting soppy in old age!”

“I was thinking maybe we should get a place with each other.”

I rolled my eyes. We had this discussion before, I thought he was fine with everything?

“We can't” I stressed looking deep into his blue intoxicating eyes. I quickly looked away as I couldn't bare ever seeing the hurt expression on his wonderful face.

“Miss Dawson,” he said in his boss voice. “What is the big deal you keep making out of it? We practically live with one another as it is and we work together.”

“You know what the big deal is.”

His mouth twitched and his free hand rubbed his brow. “That fucking Knob head?”

“No.. It's just...” I watched him roll his eyes. “Fine! Mainly because of that.”

He let out a sigh of annoyance. “When are we going to move on?” He rested his head on the back of his throne. “You know Blake has moved on? Apparently your best friend has given him a job.” My eyes widen. “You don't know?” Maxwell looked shocked.

“No!”

Why didn't she tell me?

I was really pissed off. She was meant to be my best friend and now she was hiring my ex.               Why?

I felt like I had been stabbed in the back my the only other I could truly rely on. Maxwell tighten his grip of me and I once again I buried my head into his neck.

“Can I stay at yours tonight?”

“Why don't we just make it permanent?”

I rolled my eyes. This man never knew when to give up! Then the the voice of reason asked me the unasked question.

What was the actual problem with moving in with him?

And I didn't have an answer.

There was a lot of truth in what he had said. Why did everything always feel rushed? Now I couldn't possibly carry on living with Amy not if she was working with Blake.

I slowly looked up at him and traced my finger along his strong jaw line. I guess I could give it ago. There was nothing stopping me from living with the man I longed to be with.

“Okay” I smiled and planted a kiss on his soft cheek.

“Well about fucking time” he laughed. “I'll call the estate agent.”

“We won't just live at yours?”

Maxwell threw his head back and gave a big laugh. “Oh no, Miss Dawson. A new house and a new start. For both of us, we deserve this more than you know.”

“When will you call them?”

“Today” he beamed. “Now go and do your work, Miss Dawson.” I stood up and looked at his face. His eyes were sparkling and the smile was permanently on his face. I turned and left his office. The feeling of pride fulfilled me. I had made my Mr Golden Rule happy and that was all that mattered now.

I  placed my bag down and the sound of muffed giggles was coming from Amy's bedroom. A little smile came to my lips. Her lover must be here. I had to quickly grab what I needed and rush out. Out of nowhere someone came running out of the room. My smile evaporated and I had to keep blinking just to make sure it wasn't my imagination getting the better of me.

Before me half naked with his blonde hair all roughed up was Blake!

He froze at the sight of me and his eyes swept over me. This was the first time we had laid eyes on each other since he confessed what he had done to the witch.

We didn't speak. We just stood still staring at one another.

“Blake!” Amy laughed running out of her room. She looked at me and her face fell. “George!” She sounded shocked. I don't know why? I thought I lived here. “I thought you were staying at Maxwell's?”

“I am” I replied, finally my eyes left Blake. “I had to grab a few bits.” I looked to Amy and then back to Blake. It all made sense to me now....Why she thought it would get complicated. Not only had she given him a job, he was the one she had fallen in love with. He was the one she was willing to pick over me.

What sort of friend would do that?

Was she that desperate she had to have my rejects or had she fucked all the single men in Oxford?

I couldn't stay here. I had to go. I was seriously in a state of utter shock!

“George, you okay?” Blake asked.

I gave an hysterical laugh. He was still calling me George. As for asking if I was okay, well what did he think? Did I look okay? Was this just another normal day for me?

NO!

I narrowed my eyes and glared at Amy. She was wearing Blake’s T-shirt, in fact the one I had given him for Christmas last year. She looked down at the floor and began to shift from foot to foot.

What now she was looking for some sympathy?

“I was going to tell you. I'm sorry, I just didn't know how.”

“I'm moving out!” I blurted out. “Maxwell and I are going to find a place of our own.”

“Don't be like this?”

“Like what?” I hissed.

Blake began to back away to Amy’s room. “I think I should go and get dressed.”

“I think you should!” I hissed at him this time. Blake left me and Amy alone.

Amy folded her arms in front of her. “What is your fucking problem?”

I gave a little laugh. Like she had to ask. If someone round here had a problem, it was the bloke who smashed his Mothers head in and was now sleeping with my best friend. The front door opened and Maxwell strolled in. Immediately I ran over to him and fell into his strong arms.

“What's going on?” he asked protecting me with his arms.

“Nothing!” Blake reappeared from Amy's room and this time fully dressed. “Georgina has just found out me and Amy are together.” I felt Maxwell tense up at the sight of him. “Which is really quite funny.... As I do believe she left me for you!”

“Shut the fuck up, Waterman!” Maxwell snarled. His voice turned into that loving tone he only used for me. “I'll buy you what you need.”

“See George, he'll buy you what you need.” He looked very smug with himself. “Wonder who offered him money this time?”

“Blake!” Amy screamed at him.

We began to make our way out of that place.

“You what to watch that one, Mr Thomas” Blake called behind us. “She has a tendency of fucking behind your back!”

Maxwell grabbed hold of my hand and dragged me outside. We walked over to his car and I got inside. I could no longer control my tears. I couldn't be friends with Amy now. Besides, I didn't need her as a friend.

This was it now. This was my new start. A new start with the man I loved.

Maxwell got into his seat and grabbed hold of my hand. “It will be all right. You have me now and that is all you need.”

I took in his words. He was right. Maxwell Thomas was all I needed. Amy and Blake could rot in hell for I cared. I had a new life now and there was no room for HER in it!

CHAPTER 6

Even after all this time I still wanted to punch his face in. The sight of that smug face dragging my girl out of Amy's flat. A voice laughed in my head.

My girl?

Georgina Dawson was no longer mine and hadn't been for what felt like a life time. I grabbed a beer from the fridge and sat at the breakfast bar.  She did look amazing. She was more beautiful than I had remembered her to be. I opened the can and downed at least half.

“Hey” Riley smiled making his way into the kitchen. “Thought you had a hot date tonight?”

“It got gate crashed!”

Riley grabbed himself a beer and sat opposite me. He opened his can and tilted his head to the side. He looked confused. “The ex?”

“Georgina” I reminded him.

He raised an eyebrow. “What was she doing there?”

“She lives there with Amy. Well, she did she's moving in with him now” I spat, even saying it left a dirty taste in my mouth.

Riley took a sip of his beer and looked back at me. “What was this Georgina like?”

I pulled out my phone and clicked on to the photo album. I scrolled through and found a picture. It was taken at the engagement party, Georgina was wearing the peach dress I had brought her for her birthday. We were so happy, that's what I thought. The whole time she was sneaky around with HIM! I handed the phone to Riley.

“Wow!” He whistled. “No wonder it hit you hard.”
