ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
One of the incredible blessings of life in the public eye has been, for me, the outpouring of support from people of all walks of life across South Carolina and even from some across the nation. These are people who have helped us and our family in different ways throughout the various campaigns we have endured or through Mark’s time in office or trials along the way. Some licked envelopes or volunteered their time, others raised or donated money, some sent notes of support or said encouraging words on the street, and countless told us they were praying for us. In all the years of public service, I never felt as if we walked alone. For that I will remain forever grateful. This book would not be possible without your collective support.
Of course, this book would not be on shelves without the able help of my editor, Marnie Cochran; my publisher, Libby McGuire; my collaborator, Danelle Morton; and my agent, Joy Tutela. A fine team of strong women. We worked together beautifully, happily, and in record time—a real accomplishment. My thanks to you all.
The people who have helped me on this incredible journey of life are too numerous to mention by name but I would not be where I am today without your constant love and support. My family, especially my parents, have been unfailing cheerleaders and a great safety net. My girlfriends, from all the various stages and places in my life, have been so loyal and always there to laugh together, give a hug, share a smile, or lend a shoulder to cry on. I appreciate you all more than you know.
My boys have been a constant source of love and joy, and they are my greatest legacy. I am grateful for each one of them.
And finally I am thankful for the many blessings I have received from my God, and most of all for His unfailing love.
