“I’m grumpy funny. You said so yourself.”

Fannar didn’t bother answering. Instead he cupped Noel’s face in his cool hands, but the skin against skin was the right kind of warmth for Noel. Fannar pressed a firmer, longer kiss against Noel’s mouth. Their lips slotted together, and they shared warm breath. Fannar tasted like peppermint hot chocolate and snowflakes, and everything Noel wanted but had tried to ignore. He wouldn’t any longer.

When they broke the kiss, they didn’t start skating again, instead staying leaned against each other. Fannar nosed along Noel’s cheek, and Noel sighed happily.

Fannar pressed a kiss to Noel’s temple. “This is just how I wanted this to go.”

“What, our first kiss?” There was no way he was counting a kiss on his cheek as their first. Noel felt the nod against his cheek rather than receiving a verbal response. “You wanted it to happen on a chilly-but-still-nice day while skating outside on the Red River?”

“And without a sprig of mistletoe in sight. You’d hate that.”

Noel grinned. “I would have. Let me rephrase. You wanted our first kiss to be without the aid of mistletoe and to happen while skating outside on the Red River?”

“Exactly like that,” Fannar said. “Why else would I have frozen it early?”

Noel laughed and wrapped his arms tighter around Fannar, not wanting or willing to let go any time soon.

Post resumed its regular post-holiday schedule, Noel received three postcards. Two dated back to November and one from early December. One was from Demre, Turkey, one from Bari, Italy, and one from Berlin, Germany.

Each said the same:
A trip down memory lane.
Hope this season brings you rekindled friendships and more. Love, Dad (and Mom!)

Noel stared at the postcards for several moments before bursting into laughter.

Fannar had always been a favorite of theirs. Noel had never realized how much of his own influence there was in that.

He put the postcards on the fridge next to his other postcard and the picture of him and Fannar with the fake Santa.

He considered introducing his parents to Ruby, because they needed matchmaking tips.

Not that Noel needed it anymore.
