“See what?” Isaac asked.

“You and your family have hurt an angel of a woman. Slime like you doesn’t deserve to breathe.” He drew back his fist and hit the old man right in the jaw. It only took one blow to send him sprawling. His family and friends waited to see if that was all he needed to do, and when he waved his hand dismissively, Beau and Kane came and dragged the old scoundrel to his feet. Kane began reading him his rights and Jacob walked them to the squad car, promising to bring Lilibet and Dwayne home while the sheriff did his duty.

Never had Noah felt his family’s support more than at that moment. They rallied around him and Skye. She stood where he left her, but she wasn’t alone. She was surrounded by Lance and members of his family, also. He put his arm around her and they all went into the house. He held her tight. She was shaking like a leaf. And she had every right to react. In the last few days there had been four attempts on her life. Tonight, she’d even been shot at. “It’s over, Princess.” Rocking her in his arms, he just let her rest.

Their nightmare was over.

The family was reluctant to leave. They lingered to well up in the morning, just enjoying the fact they had survived another challenge.

Finally, Noah felt like it was time to take his treasure to bed. She deserved to rest and realize she was safe. Picking her up, he started off.

“Where are we going?” Skye asked even though she knew what the answer was.

“To our room.”

“Noah, are there any leftovers?”

He opened his eyes and looked at Skye who was propped up staring at him.

“What did you say?”

“I want more pie. I like pie.”

He chuckled. “Pie isn’t a proper breakfast.” At her small pout, he chuckled. “Okay, pie later, right now I want to give you something sweeter.”

“What?”

“Me.”

“Oh, okay.” She smiled. “You convinced me. My second wish is….” she whispered into his ear.

“Shower sex?” He laughed.

Noah didn’t bother to answer the message. He just called.

“McCoy,” Jaxson answered.

“Good name. This is Noah. What’s up?” He sat on the bed and reached for Skye’s hand.

“Yea, I wanted to tell you something. I called you because Heath told me what you did for Philip, and I knew you’d know what to do with this information.”

“What information?”

“Well, I was down in Sonora, Mexico. Visiting a ranch called Los Banos. I met a man down there who’s acting as their foreman. His name is Austin Wade.”

“Okay, you have my attention. Does this Austin know something about Aron? Did he mention him?”

“No, he didn’t mention Aron. He didn’t say much at all.” Jaxon paused. “But if I’m not badly mistaken, Austin Wade is Aron McCoy.”

Noah almost dropped the phone. “Are you sure?”

“No, I’m not sure. But he looks like the picture, he talks like Heath—everything. But he didn’t react to me. Hell, it was almost like looking in a damn mirror.”

“Thanks, Jaxson. I owe you one. And if you don’t mind, talk to your brothers and tell them to keep this information under their hat. I want to check it out first before we tell the rest of the family.” Noah wasn’t being ugly, but if Aron was doing this on purpose, he was going to have to answer to Noah first.

After he’d rung off, Skye kissed his shoulder. “What’s going on?”

“We’re going to Mexico.”

She stood up. “I’m ready.” He stared at her. “It’s not like I have anything to pack.”

“Good. Then I’ll pack, and we’ll buy what you need on the way.”

“Can I ask why we’re going to Mexico?”

“My cousin said he saw Aron.” He leveled a look at her. “We’re going to bring my brother home.”

“My God!” She hugged him. “Now this, Noah, is adventure.”

When they went downstairs, the house was quiet. Where everyone was, he didn’t know. So, Noah left a note.

Skye and I have gone on a little trip. We’ll be back soon. Don’t worry.

“We’ll go to the airport, book a flight, and then get you some clothes at the boutique. When we get back, I promise I’ll outfit you like a queen.”

She leaned into his side and let out a long breath. “I’m not worried about clothes. I have everything I want.” She squeezed his thigh.

“Good. I’m glad to hear it. So do I.” They loaded up, started the truck and left.

As they headed out from Tebow, Noah looked around. This was his land. His home. When he returned, everything could be different. What the future held. He didn’t know.

“Noah, I’ve got one wish left.”

“That you do. What’ll it be?” He looked at Skye and felt love for her swell up in his heart. There was one thing for sure. No matter what his future held, as long as he had her, he was rich beyond his wildest dreams.

“Love me forever.”
