He tore his mouth away, stepping back even though Boone didn’t release him.

“Does that tell you what I want?” Boone asked.

Jelal shrugged. “Not really. It tells me you want to get laid. If there’s something else you think I should hear, you should probably use your words.”

Boone snarled, releasing Jelal’s wrists. Jelal didn’t move in the face of the inhuman fury, just folded his arms, waiting.

“What you should know is that I- I’ve wanted you since high school. But you left to play
football
. A game. They
pretend
to hunt.”

“You could have said something.” Jelal ignored the incredulity in Boone’s tone. A wolf would never understand the human love of football.

The wolf shook his head. “Doesn’t work like that. Either you stay on your own or- it just doesn’t work like that. And now you’re telling me you’re going to leave again? Why? What’s out there for you better than what you can have here?”

“And what can I have?” Jelal asked. Taking a step forward, he met the man toe to toe, face to face. They were of a height- that hadn’t always been the case.

“You can have me.”

Jelal smiled, dark and humorless. “For how long? A week, a day?”

“Forever.”

He couldn’t move, looking into Boone’s pale eyes. Seeing a message there he’d ignored all those years ago- chasing a dream of NFL stardom.

“I might stay for forever.”

They didn’t speak for one long moment. But damn, it was getting to... emotional for Jelal. He cleared his throat. “But that doesn’t mean I want you to get hurt because-”

“Shut up, Jal.”

This kiss wasn’t any less aggressive, but the aggression was tempered with hope and a kind of sweet relief in the brush of Boone’s palm against Jelal’s face. The salty sweet taste of Boone’s tongue invaded his mouth, blood hardening his cock in a painful swirl of pressure, tingles in his stomach and marching ants up his spine telling Jelal their consummation would be... explosive.

The bang of a door slamming closed made them both jump.

“You boys take that indoors, you hear me?” Grandma yelled from the porch.

Jelal pulled away from Boone. “Grandma-”

“Don’t you Grandma me, boy.” She stared at him, eagle-eyed, hands on her hips. “You think I didn’t know about the two of you?” She snorted. “Now git. Decent folks don’t display their affection in public.”

They waited until she went back inside.

“So, what do you say?” Boone asked. “Should we find somewhere... private?”

Jelal wanted to, but he... hesitated. “We’re in the middle of a war. Is it the right time?”

“Will it ever be? Has it ever been? The right time is now, Jal. I don’t want to wait anymore.”

And he wouldn’t.

***

Boone led him through the woods. Jelal began to protest, but the wolf laid a finger on Jelal’s lips.

“I want our first time to be in the open air, under the sky.”

If they passed sentries on the silent walk, Jelal didn’t know or care. Silent only in the sense that they didn’t speak. But they exchanged the occasional glance, Boone’s blue eyes caressing Jelal with their half smile, half smoldering expression. The occasional brush of a finger against the back of Jelal’s hand elicited shivers. Deep into the woods, when Jelal began to wonder if Boone even had a particular space in mind, the wolf stopped.

Jelal looked around. A small creek provided water and an embankment lined with trees. Boone headed to one and in a powerful leap, caught a thick low hanging branch and swung himself up, disappearing into the leaves. Before Jelal had time to say ‘what the fuck’, an army green pack dropped to the ground, followed by the grinning werewolf.

“I camp out here human style sometimes. The ground is soft near the water.”

He drew a sleeping bag out of the pack- a plush, hardy looking bag a serious camper might get at a specialty sports store. He spread it out on the ground, kneeling, and looked up at Jelal who watched him with folded arms.

“Come here,” Boone said, a command in the quiet tone.

Jelal resisted for one moment, dark eyes caught in blue, feeling the pull of Boone’s will and the clash of their equally strong personalities.

Jelal blew out a breath.

“We’re going to have to work on you telling me what to do,” the human said, approaching and sinking down into a crouch.

“Hmm. If you were a wolf, I might be concerned with that statement.” Boone’s impassive regard narrowed Jelal’s eyes. The wolf’s expression cleared, and he laughed. “That wasn’t a challenge. You should see your face. Jeez, Jal.”

“You’re the Alpha wolf,” Jelal retorted. “Your teeth are bigger than mine.”

“Yes, my teeth
are
bigger,” Boone crooned, voice deepening. Heat crept into his eyes, brightening the blue from summer sky to glowing azure. “All the better to eat you with.”

Jelal’s pulse jumped, body tensing. “
No
teeth, damnit.”

The responding smile was slow,

more than a little wicked. Boone wrapped a strong hand around Jelal’s neck, tugging him forward. Jelal lost his balance a bit, grabbing Boone’s upper arms to steady himself as the man took his mouth in another kiss. The third kiss. Teeth- not quite human dull- nipped at his lips, tongue pushing past the barrier of Jelal’s lips and invading his mouth. Jelal moaned, inhaling sharply. His senses seemed to sharpen, the scent of water and damp earth mingling with Boone’s woodsy, smoky musk. Boone’s shoulders flexed under his hands and Jelal could feel the dip and rise of taut muscle, flexing. Arms twitching as if Boone wanted to attack him, rather than kiss him. Which made Jelal wonder if the man was holding back.

“Are you going to be yourself with me?” he asked Boone, pulling away. The wolf stilled, expression instantly wary.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean- I know you’re... stronger... than a human. But I’m an athlete. I can take you. I don’t want you holding back on me.”

Boone’s expression instantly shuttered. “You don’t understand what you’re asking. I could hurt you.”

Jelal grabbed a handful of Boone’s shirt. “Boone, I’m telling you not to hold out. I want all- or nothing.”

The wolf stared at him, saying nothing for several long moments. “Let’s take it one touch at a time, okay? We have time to figure everything out.”

It wasn’t an answer, but Jelal didn’t exactly want to start a fight just then. His cock rubbed painfully against his jeans, aching for freedom from confinement. His body aching for Boone’s invasion. Jelal didn’t know where he wanted to start. Just that he wanted to try everything, like a kid in a candy shop.

Boone stroked his hands down Jelal’s back, fingers pausing to cup the human’s firm ass, pulling Jelal even further into his body.

“Don’t wolves mate for life?” Jelal asked.

Pale wolf eyes glinted. “What did you think forever meant?”

Teeth nipped down Jelal’s neck, finding that spot in the hollow of his collarbone that Jelal knew if stimulated right… damn, his toes began to curl, teeth clenching against the sensations. Jelal sucked in a shaky breath, struggling to control instincts suddenly raging. His arm rose, grasping Boone around the neck. He tugged the wolf to the ground.

The Alpha snarled, flipping so Jelal was on bottom. “Don’t forget who’s the top here.”

Jelal’s eyes narrowed. Despite desire, despite the instinctive thrusting of his hips against Boone’s, needing the friction of cock against cock, he refused to lose his head.

“I’m not your wolf,” Jelal growled. “I’m not your submissive.”

Boone’s hips ground into him, his hands unbuttoning Jelal’s jeans and pulling down his zipper. Jelal’s cock sprang into Boone’s grip, thick and jerking in reaction as Boone began to stroke him.

“No, you’re my mate,” he replied. “Mine to do with as I see fit.”

“Just so long as you don’t forget that goes both ways.”

Jelal pushed his hands underneath Boone’s shirt, fingertips trailing along heated satin skin, feeling muscle twitch and clench underneath his ministrations. He withdrew, unbuttoning cloth and then rising up to capture a pebbled nipple between his teeth. Boone gasped, peeling Jelal’s pants down his legs, taking shoes and cloth and tossing them into a pile several feet away.

Jelal reciprocated, removing Boone’s clothing and soon they were both naked, warm summer breeze playing with their bare skin. Jelal’s gaze skimmed Boone’s physique, taking his time to appreciate the lean, sculpted frame and flawless golden skin. A light dusting of sandy hair over chest and down his belly to a nest around a cock full and ready for action, the width bringing saliva to Jelal’s mouth. In anticipation.

Hand wrapping around Boone’s cock to reciprocate, they jacked each other, giving and receiving pleasure, both knowing it was just an appetizer, the gentle beginning of a bountiful feast.

“I need your mouth on me,” Boone said hoarsely. “You don’t know how many years I imagined this- how many times I started to leave everything and come to Austin to drag you home.”

“Why didn’t you?” It hurt, strangely enough. If he was that important to Boone, why hadn’t the Alpha
hunted
him?

“I can’t leave the territory, Jal. I’d leave it open to another Alpha to claim, leave my wolves vulnerable. I couldn’t do it. But so many times I started to anyway.”

“I didn’t know.”

“Now you do.”

Boone climbed up Jelal’s body, wrapping a hand around his cock to guide it between Jelal’s waiting mouth. Jelal knocked Boone’s hand aside, brow rising when blue eyes flared, wrapping his own hand around the base of the wolf’s shaft.

Boone’s length filled his mouth, silky heat and salty precum, touching the back of his throat as Jelal worked up and down the rod, sucking and swirling his tongue around Boone’s tip.

“Yes, baby, like that.” Boone breathed into the night, lids lowering so his eyes were like half moons, and just as bright. “You were made for me.”

His hips began to fuck Jelal’s mouth, moving in a rhythm the human male matched, relaxing his jaw and throat muscles to take Boone all the way in. Jelal worked him with a single-minded passion, wanting to make up for missed years. When Boone pulled away Jelal almost shouted in frustration.

“What are you doing?” he asked sharply. “Get back here.”

Boone laughed, a deep, wicked sound. “I’m glad you aren’t a wolf, mate. We’d fight, you and I. I want to do more than this, more than fucking. I want to make love. Make you my mate in more than wishful thinking.”

Jelal sat up, grasping Boone’s face, momentarily distracted by the contrast of his darker hands against the wolf’s paler skin. He pressed a kiss on Boone’s mouth then drew away.

“I don’t have any lube,” he said.

“There’s some in the pack. I’ll get it.”

Jelal nodded, stomach muscles tense. When Boone returned a moment later the wolf urged him onto his hands and knees, hands again caressing the human's back muscles and traveling along his skin, almost soothing. Jelal felt the tips of Boone’s fingers trail along his slit, rimming the hole of his ass as the wolf spread Jelal’s cheeks. The tip of a tongue delicately prodded the puckered skin and Jelal inhaled, clenching his teeth, then made himself relax.

“It will hurt if you tense up,” Boone whispered, breath hot against Jelal’s ass.

Jelal felt a kiss on his intimate area and shuddered, forcing calm into his body. Trying to trick himself that Boone wasn’t about to bring him the greatest pleasure of his life- and possibly the greatest pain.

The head of Boone’s cock, slippery with the slathered on lube, pressed slowly into Jelal’s entrance. The ring of tight muscle resisted, Jelal fighting to relax his body and accept his mate. Feeling the burn of his cock and the burn of his ass. Feeling the inexorable press of Boone’s hunger. Jelal balanced on one hand, using the other to stroke his own shaft. It was the attention he needed, his body suddenly releasing tension, Boone pushing past the ring of fire, filling his ass completely.

“Take all of me, baby,” Boone said. “You feel so good.”

He felt invaded, stretched to his limit. Silk and heat and wet, his senses hyper aware, zooming in on the sensations, the moment of penetration. Fine hairs tickling his rim as Boone pushed in, pulled out, slowly opening his ass to accept full penetration. The feel of Boone’s cock inside him hit his body like a drug and he needed more.

“God, I’m sorry,”

he said, throat dry. “I should have come sooner. I shouldn’t have-”

A slap stung the cheek of his ass. “Don’t,” Boone said. “No regrets. You’re here now. That’s what counts. But if you try to leave again…”

Jelal heard, and understood the dark warning in Boone’s voice. Jelal began to lean backward into Boone’s cock, especially when the head touched that part inside him that he knew, technically, was his prostrate. But nothing so fucking good should ever be called something so bland and boring. Jelal’s hand worked his own cock, almost afraid the rigidity would split his skin. But there was something preventing him from coming, even as Boone fucked his ass with gentle, sure strokes.

As the wolf took him, Jelal felt his heart and mind begin to open, felt a connection with Boone form from the tendril of friendship that Jelal had deliberately allowed to shrivel over the years. Began, dimly, to understand what it meant to be
mate
. It wasn’t just a term, a word used to denote the monogamous lover of a wolf. It went deeper, truer. And he felt it even as his orgasm began to build.
