Nikki spluttered as she sank into the downy-soft layers of the
mattress. This wasn’t going well at all. She’d hoped to point out their very
brief acquaintance, and the fact that they hadn’t had time to learn to trust
each other, let alone discuss eternal bonding.

Wolfe bounced down beside her and reached over to pull her
on top of him. “Most of the spells were in place long before I was born. I don’t
know what they are specifically, only that they work. My grandfather and I
reinforced them when we started to use the chamber.” He pulled her head down to
nuzzle the hollow beneath her chin.
You acknowledged the binding out loud.

She shifted her weight and tried to look severe, despite the
deep feeling of peace that his touch brought. “Don’t get too excited.
Acknowledged and accepted are two very different things.”

She lowered her head to trail her tongue across his lips.
She could taste the coffee he’d had earlier. Beneath her hips, she felt his
shaft jerk in response to her teasing.

Damn. She was getting to like this way too much.

Just as well, since you’re stuck with me.

We’ll see about that.
Nikki tossed her head
defiantly. “I think I’ll go take a closer look at that pond of yours. If your
calculations earlier were correct, we have a couple of hours before anybody
will be in the Dream World.”

“I can think of some interesting ways to kill a couple of
hours.” Wolfe ran his hands suggestively over her hips.

Nikki wrinkled her nose. “Been there, done that. I’d rather
go swimming.”

She sure hoped she sounded more convincing than she felt.
She had a feeling that if she stopped resisting, they’d be spending the
majority of their time naked. And then there would be children she would
inevitably desert. Not happening. No way she’d put a child of hers through the
horror of abandonment.

She shook off the thoughts of the past and slipped from the
bed, skipping over to the doorway where she paused to throw a challenging look
over her shoulder. “Last one in gets to cook dinner.”

Chapter Nine

Nikki raced across the clearing. Fun. She had fun with
Wolfe, and she didn’t have to hide anything. Forget the stupid bond and enjoy
what Wolfe had to offer. For now, at least.

The water in the pond sparkled invitingly and she only
stopped long enough to shed her clothes before wading in.
It’s cold!
She
shivered at the unexpected temperature, diving under the surface.

It’s mountain fed.
Wolfe’s amused reply slid into her
mind.
Shift. Your otter won’t feel the cold as much.

Nikki paused for a moment. Normally she didn’t shift unless
she was alone, but Wolfe had already seen her in her otter form. Still, she was
oddly shy about him witnessing the actual transformation.

She swam over to where the waterfall fed into pond and found
the hidden spot behind the curtain of falling water. Treading water, she closed
her eyes and willed the change. She took her time. Having Wolfe to guard her
gave her that luxury. The magic sparkled, easing through her as she relaxed and
let the shift take place naturally. The spasms of pain were less severe this
time. She could feel Wolfe’s presence in her mind, a shadow lurking just out of
reach.

Comforting.

She’d never felt comforted before, and the sensation sent
warmth flowing through her. She hugged the feeling to herself as the sleek fur
sprouted to cover her. Dipping her head under the surface, she shook it,
splashing water up into the air.

Ready?

Wolfe’s teasing tones warned her he’d gotten near. Nikki
stretched her muscles, getting used to the feel of her otter, and paddled out
into the open water, her head wavering to and fro as she searched the shores of
the pond.

Wolfe stood on the far bank. A slow smile teased the corner
of his mouth, pulling it up in that grin she was beginning to love. Her gaze
dropped lower to the massive bulge in the front of his pants. She’d never admit
it, but she loved that she could do that to him without even touching him.

Paddling silently toward the center of the pond, she enjoyed
the feel of the water sliding off her sleek pelt.
You’re right. It’s much
warmer this way. Come on in.

Not this time. You need to relax before we Walk. I’ll
just sit here and make sure you’re not disturbed.
Wolfe sank gracefully
down onto the lush grass, his legs crossed beneath him.

That’s quite impressive. Aren’t you going to do something
about it?
The little otter stared pointedly at his groin.

Wolfe glanced down with a rueful shake of his head.
I’m
getting used to it. Being around you gives me a constant hard-on.

Nikki laughed, the sound a joyful bark. Rolling onto her
back she floated peaceably, ignoring Wolfe while she watched the clouds rolling
across the sky.
That one looks like a dragon.
She sneaked a peek to see
if he’d been paying attention.

Wolfe frowned up at the puffy white dot in the sky.
More
like a gryphon. Look at that wingspan.

Nikki waggled her whiskers.
There’s no such thing as
gryphons.

And there are dragons?

Oh yes.
She flipped back onto her belly and dove down
to grab a plant off the bottom of the pond.
Dragons live in the caves in the
highest mountains at the northernmost end of the Rockies.

Really.
He sounded amused.
We should go see them
sometime.

She executed a perfect backflip and paddled a little closer
to him.
Excellent idea. We could pack a cooler and do a road trip.

Satisfied that she had his undivided attention, Nikki
proceeded to show off, diving under the surface to come up on the far side of
the pond and then twisting and turning her way back, tail swishing jauntily
behind her. It felt so good to be able to play without fear, without keeping
one eye open to danger.

She remembered how much fun it had been when she’d been a
young kit, frolicking in the lochs with her mother and sister while her father
kept watch.

She refused to let the thought of her mother’s desertion
ruin her fun. Spying the perfect spot for a slide, she swam to the far end of
the pond and clambered up a steep section. When she reached the top, she took a
few bouncy steps and threw herself headfirst down the grassy bank, her wet
belly sliding along the grass. The bank ended just above the water and she
splashed back into the pond with a satisfying spray of water.

That was fun!
She scooted back over to do it again.
When she’d finally worn herself out, she shifted back to human form and crawled
out of the water to collapse beside Wolfe.

He handed her a towel and she accepted it with a grin. “You’d
think after all this time, I’d remember to bring a towel.” She pulled her
clothes back on, the grin faltering when she realized it was time to go back to
the dream chamber.

“It’ll be all right.” She felt his warmth and compassion
wash through her. “I’ll be there for you.”

She met his gaze, reading the honest sympathy in it, and the
butterflies in her stomach settled a bit.

“Thank you.” She took the comb he offered and ran it through
her hair, taking the time to work out all the knots before tucking it back
behind her ears.

He extended a hand toward her. “Shall we?”

She put her hand in his, feeling the connection as his hand
closed over hers. She wouldn’t admit it aloud, but it felt good, this connection
to another person. She wasn’t alone. If only she could count on that feeling
lasting forever.

“Follow my lead.” Wolfe cradled her in his strong arms. “Breathe
slowly and evenly and just let yourself drift off to sleep. If you try too
hard, it won’t work.”

“I’ll try, but it’s not that easy.” Nikki made a conscious
effort to relax, the warmth of Wolfe’s body surrounded her, making her feel
safe. The fact that Dream Walking was difficult for her had become a
self-fulfilling prophecy over the years. She worried that she wouldn’t be able
to enter the Dream World, so she had trouble falling into a deep enough sleep,
so it became even more difficult.

Wolfe snuggled up against her back and wrapped an arm around
her, his hand resting lightly on her belly. His warm breath wafted across her
cheek, and she found herself matching the rhythm of his breathing.

In and out. Slowly. Gently.
She closed her eyes and
concentrated on the solid feel of his body surrounding hers. His hand splayed
casually across her tummy, as if it had every right to be there. It would be so
easy to just give in, to let him look after her. Wolfe hummed softly, the tune
low and soothing. She didn’t recognize the melody, and wondered where he’d
learned it.

A big yawn escaped her, and she snuggled a little closer to
his warm body. She didn’t really want to Dream Walk anyway. She’d be happy to
spend the night wrapped in her lover’s arms.

Nikki woke, still cradled tenderly in Wolfe’s arms.

Not woke, she corrected, since her physical body was still
asleep, but it sure felt like she was awake.

“You really don’t have much experience at this, do you?”
Wolfe stared down at her, his gorgeous blue eyes tender.

She shook her head. “What with cell phones and internet,
this always seemed like too much trouble.”

“Well.” He bent to brush her lips with his. “I’ll have to
convince you the end results are worth the trouble.

He smelled like a forest glade in early morning, all wet and
shimmery with dew.

Nikki opened her mouth to reply and he took immediate
advantage, his tongue swirling in to explore, running across the roof before
taking the time for an erotic duel with her own. She shifted in his arms,
angling her head to allow him deeper access.

Wolfe responded with a low growl, tightening his arms around
her and pressing her body tight against his own.

She felt a sudden surge of panic. It felt too good, too
right.

And it could turn out so wrong.

She twisted in his arms, attempted to squirm free.

Wolfe reacted by throwing one long leg across her lower
torso, effectively neutralizing her struggles. He took his time finishing the
kiss, his tongue delving deep to explore every part.

“Why the sudden fight?” He raised one of those annoyingly
handsome brows. “You know you want me.”

Nikki gave him her best ice-maiden stare. The damn man had
an ego the size of an old-growth tree. It didn’t help that he was right. “You
wish.”

He laughed. “You’d never make a politician. You can’t lie
worth a damn.” Lowering his head, he licked her lips, teasing her tongue for a
few moments before he left her mouth to continue his exploration. He nibbled
his way down the curve of her cheek, stopping to explore her tender earlobe.

She’d never known an ear could be so sensitive. She gasped
and brought her hands up to stop him, but somehow she ended up playing with the
dark sprinkling of hair on his chest.

“The taste of you drives me wild. You know we belong
together. Why fight it?”

“You’re bossy and arrogant.” She wished that had come out
more assertive. It sounded like a compliment.

He nibbled on the delicate lobe and a fiery heat lanced
through her.

“Someone needs to look after you.” He licked his way down
her neck to the delicate hollow of her shoulder, pushing her shirt aside with
impatient hands.

She couldn’t think when he touched her like this, couldn’t
function on anything more than a basic instinctive level. She gave up even
trying.

“You’re a domineering male who needs to learn some manners.”
She murmured it into his gorgeous head of hair.

He looked down at her, his eyes dark pools of lust. Lowering
his shields, he deliberately let her see into his mind, see what he wanted to
do to her.

She felt her cheeks heat at the intimate pictures, and a
wickedly dark grin turned up the corner of his mouth.

“And that’s for a start.” He reached to pull her shirt over
her head, exposing her breasts. “I want all of you, every thought, every word,
every look. I want it all to be for me.”

He dipped his head to score his teeth across one tender
nipple before running his tongue across it to remove the sting.

“You’re mine.” He caressed the other globe with his hand
while he used his tongue and teeth on the first, teasing her unmercifully.

Nikki held him to her with hands that trembled. She was fast
losing her ability to think clearly. Somehow, this man had waltzed his way
through defenses that she’d spent a lifetime perfecting. If she wasn’t careful,
he’d take up residence in her heart.

Right now, she didn’t care. The blood raced hot through her
veins. She wanted him. Wanted him to run those big, rough hands over her body,
wanted him to kiss her until she gasped for oxygen. Wanted him to take her back
to those glorious heights of passion.

She lowered her hands to tear at the waist of his jeans,
wanting to feel the smooth slide of his skin against hers.

“Now that’s more like it.” He growled the sentence out
against her taut nipple as he tormented it with his tongue. Standing, he let
her go long enough to shrug off his jeans and kick them aside.

Nikki licked her tongue over suddenly dry lips as his
impressive shaft sprang free, curving up toward the heavens. He stalked toward
her, his eyes glittering with barely restrained passion. “Your turn. Strip.”

Nikki hesitated for a moment, mesmerized by the sight of his
gloriously naked body. She licked her lips again and his eyes darkened with
lust. Rising to her knees, she gave a slow, sexy wiggle of her hips and her
pants slid down, leaving her black lace thong in place. The sexy scrap of lace
revealed more than it covered.

Wolfe ran his hot gaze over her naked body and circled his
shaft in one hand, giving it a long slow stroke from base to tip. “You are so
incredibly beautiful.” His voice rang with the pure tones of honesty. “I could
stand here and look at you all day.”

Nikki lounged onto her side, propping herself up on one
elbow and eyed his massive erection. Her voice, low and husky, purred with
excitement. “Now that would be a real waste.” She ran a hand over her belly and
down to her pussy, feeling the wet heat flood her at the mere thought of that
magnificent cock slowly working its way into her most feminine parts.

With a low growl, Wolfe bounced onto the bed, flipping her
onto her back so that he straddled her, his enormous shaft pressed into her
stomach. He grabbed a wrist in each hand and drew her arms over her head.

Fingers of erotic heat danced their way up her spine as she
stared up into those molten eyes. Heat pooled low in her belly. He had her at
his mercy and the feeling was incredibly arousing. Her heart beat faster, her
breath coming in uneven gasps. She wriggled her hips and felt his cock jerk in
response.

His eyes roamed her body, leaving a trail of honeyed passion
in their wake before he dipped his head to suck one pebbled nipple into his
mouth.

Nikki gasped at the incredible explosion of feeling. Darts
of lust shot through every part of her body. Lying partially across her, Wolfe
settled in to lick and suck with a vengeance, driving her into a frenzy of
need. She softened, melted against him, whimpering little incoherent sounds as
her body writhed beneath his.

He nibbled and licked his way down her rib cage, pausing to
explore the slight indentation of her navel before venturing lower. He nuzzled
the slight hollow of her hips, his hand moving lower to toy with the lacy thong
and she arched up off the bed, wordlessly begging for more.

I like the idea of you begging for my attention.
The
thought slid into her mind, smooth as silk. Wrapping the scrap of lace around
his fingers, he ripped it off, tossing the garment aside. He parted the slick
lips of her sex with one finger before slipping it inside to stroke the
sensitive walls of her channel with consummate skill. Teasing her mercilessly,
he used hands and lips and tongue to drive her need even higher. He raised his
head to pin her with his gaze. “You belong to me. We’re bound. For all time.”
