T
here was no
answer. It had been over two hours now since she
had been back and nothing from Adam.

Sam.

Sam was on speed dial on her
phone and as
she
pressed the button and held it
, she
could only think that something was terribly wrong.

Eve
was frantic as
she
spoke to him. The words flowed as well as the tears as
she
struggled to tell Sam that Adam was missing. He hadn’t spoken to Adam and agreed that something wasn’t right. He was
leaving on the next flight to
Acapulco
and was going to be in touch with a contact of theirs that actually was in
Acapulco
already.

Adam hadn’t mentioned anyone that he knew in Acapulco, but it comforted her nonetheless. She
continued to pace the hotel room waiting to hear from Adam bu
t finally she
sat down and eventually fell asleep on the couch.

The phone rang causing
her
to jump.
Grabbing it up, she answered.
“Adam?”

“No,
” said a man’s voice.

“I’m sorry?” she
replied.
Eve
blinked frequently and rubbed her
eyes trying to wake u
p and see what time it was as she
listened.

“Eve
.
Nash.” The man
stated her name with a sharp
tone.

“Yes. Who is this? What do you want?”
she
demanded.

“Shut up and listen. If you want Adam to live then yo
u need to listen!” he yelled. Eve froze.

“That’s better, now you need to listen carefully. I want you to get into your car and drive north.” H
e continued his directions as she
wrote them down. It was obvious that
she
would be in an industrial part of town away from the tourist locations.
Eve
acknowledged the directions to the man, he told
her
to be there as soon as possible.

Taking in a deep breath, Eve
thought for a minute about what was about to happen.
No doubt that she
was about to walk into a trap
, but she
didn’t hesitate.
She
had to do what
she
could to save Ad
am, even if it meant their deaths. Then she
had
an odd twitch in her
stomach and remembered there was a baby now.

It didn’t matter. Adam needed her.

Eve called Sam
and got his voicemail. Assuming he was on a plane
,
she
left him
the directions and a desperate plea for help
. He was supposed to get in touch with Adam’s friend but
she
didn’t know who he was or how to reach him. There was no time to wait though,
it would take a half hour for her
to reach t
he destination
.
H
opefully
,
Adam’s friend could make it there in time to help.

Sighing deeply as she
saw that it was
three o’clock
in the morning
,
she
grabbed
her
bag. Before
leaving the
room
,
she strapped her knife to her thigh under her dress. Adam’s guns were missing and she had to assume that they had taken them when they seized Adam.

Eve
remembered how
surprised Adam had looked when she pulled the diving knife from her bag
in Maui. The thought of Adam’s face was foremost in
her
thoughts.
S
he
longed to see and touch him again.

Eve
followed the instructions turning at the different streets until
she
found the
address of the warehouse that she was to find Adam in. Putting the car in park, she sighed before pulling the handled back to open the door.

Eve
had no plan and
wasn’t a professional at this like Adam, but she had to try and save her husband’s life. She had promised him that her fate was in his hands and that she would follow him thr
ough every door, even if it be
the door to hell.

She
walked up
the sidewalk to a door
illuminated by
a single bulb. No other lights appeared to be on anywhere else in the building.

Eve
pulled on the handle and the door op
ened. The hallway in front of her was very long and dark. She had no idea where she was going but
figured that
they would discover her
soon enough. Forcing
her
legs to move forward
, she walked down the hall.
Finally, she saw another light about twenty yards away from her. A
s
she got closer, her
stomach
churned
.
She
felt like
she would be sick but kept reminding herself
that
she
had to be strong.
She
had to find Adam.

Wearing a sundress and having
switched out
her sandals for tennis shoes, just in case, it w
ould appear that
she
had
come unarmed and she
hop
ed
that th
e man didn’t decide to search her
.

Eve
reached the light and stopped. There
were doors on either side
.
She
turned to
her
left and twisted the kno
b on that door. It was locked. She then tried the one to her
right, it wasn’t locked. S
lowly
, she
pushed the door open and stepped inside. There were many tables and chairs scattered about the large room.
She guessed
it must have bee
n a break room or training room at some point, but the layer of dirt on everything told her that it had been deserted a long time ago.
The florescent lig
hts hanging from the ceiling only lit up part of the room
.
Some of them flickered and she
scanned the room quickly from left to right. They stopped on Adam. He was bound to a chair, his shirt bloodied.

“No!” she
gasped.

Adam slowly lifted his head to see
her. It was even worse than she feared. His face had already bruised
where they had hit him
repeatedl
y. A cut above his right eye
gap
ed
open exposing the bo
ne beneath. Blood
co
vered the rest of his face. As she
ran to him
,
he
mumbled something that she couldn’t quite hear, but as she got closer she made them out.

“Run! Run Eve!” he grunted. She was not running without him.
Eve
knelt and li
fted his head to see his face. She
was so glad to see him alive, but
had instantly grown violent
as
she
assessed the damage the bastard had done to him. His left eye had sustained enough
trauma
that some of the blood vessels had burst causing t
he white of his eye to fill
with blood.

H
esitant to touch him because he
might
be in pain
,
she cautiously lifted his chin and
cradled his face in
her
hands.

“Adam, I’
m so sorry.” The anger inside her started boiling. They had hurt him badly and she
wouldn’t
let them get away with it if
she
could help it.

“Eve you must get out. Please for me, just leave me,” he pleaded.

“Never  . . .” she
started.

The door behind
her
slammed shut.

“The infamous Ms. Nash,” said a voice. It wasn’t the voice on the phone though.

“Mrs
. St. James to you, you fuck.” Her tone sounded too calm to even her as she
slowly turned toward the voice. There were two men standing there.
One
had a
large pistol in his right hand and the other wore a
suit.

A little hot for Acapulco
, she
thought.

“Well. That’s an interesting twist. I knew you were screwing
her but . . .” said the one wielding the gun
.
Eve couldn’t help but stare at the monster and that’s exactly what he looked like. She guessed
him to be six-foot one and about two hundred and twenty pounds of muscle. Scars covered the left side of his face and she could see damage to that eye. He wasn’t very pretty, but Eve mustered up her strength to stand against the two men.

T
he other man cut
him off by raising his hand. Eve crossed her arms as she
took a stance in front of Adam.

“We’re
here to end this, but I need something from you first,” said the man.

“You must be Sanders.” She
coldly
stared at him
as
she
thought of wh
at he had done to them
.

“I don’t know what you want, but let Adam go and we
can discuss this civilly
.”
Eve remained calm but she
wanted them dead.
Her
anger level
was peaking
and
she
knew for a fact that if
she
’d had a gun that
she
would have emptied a clip and not thought twice about what would happen to
her
.

“You’ve become quite arrogant since your acquaintance with Mr. St. James. We’ll take care of that,” said Sanders. “But I’m sorry he won’t be leaving us, at least not alive and I’m afraid you won’t either,” he added. Th
e assassin pointed his gun at her.

Instead of fear,
she reached
her
boiling point. No one was going to threaten the man that
she loved or the
child that
she now carried inside her
. Adam wa
s struggling with consciousness
behind her, but she didn’t dare turn around. He muttered
someth
ing and then passed out again. Eve
tried to come up with a plan for escape but wasn’t succeedi
ng since they had guns and all she
had was a knife.
She wasn’t even sure when she
would get to use the knife or if it would prove useful.

“Put her in a chair
Edwards.” Sanders pointed at her. He approached her and grabbed her
arm hard.

“No need for violence.

Eve retained her calm tone
as he forced
her
to sit down.

“I’ll do whatever the fuck I w
ant!” He was nose to nose with her
as he shouted and then he took a step back.

Before she
could defend
herself, h
e swung his right arm backhanded at
her. Her right cheek stung, and a faint taste of blood washed through her mouth.

“Now shut up you b
itch!” he shouted as he pulled her
arms behind
her
back.

Fortunately,
Adam was out cold
.
She
didn’t want him to
see anything that happened to her
.
Eve groaned as the pain sank into her jawbone.

That hurts like hell.
She shook it off and refocused her
eyes on the men.

“What
exactly is it that you want?” she
asked. There wasn’t a thing that
she
could think of that
she
would have that Sanders would want.
Eve
had given away everything after Michael died. The only things left other than his clothes and a couple of pieces of furniture were
the
sentimental items that
she
kept in the box. There wasn’t anyth
ing in it worth any value that she
knew of.
