CHAPTER EIGHT

Mon 11th June

It had rained the night before, so Emily stood as she waited on Billy next to the flooded creek. There was still a hint of rain in the air but, she was excited to be spending the day with him and fidgeted, constantly looking at her phone as if she had missed his text. Should I have brought something? No, Billy told me to just bring myself, she giggled at the thought. Where is he, she wondered?

“Walking through the woods” He text, “almost there” he text again, before she had time to respond. “I’m here” he said and laughed, as his face appeared through the bushes. How could I love him so much already, he is so much fun to be with, she thought?

“You ready” he asked as he extended his hand to her and she took it. He led her through the woods toward the back of the Johnson property. It was a long, wet walk, Billy held back tree limbs, held open bushes, some they even had to crawl under.

As they reached the back of the property Billy smiled “Were here,” Confused Emily looked around, “Where’s the pond?” Billy laughed and pulled back some bushes, “Through here,” he motioned with his head.

Emily climbed through the bushes, “This is beautiful” she told Billy as she looked around speechless, the pond was surrounded on all sides by trees and various type of bushes, not visible from the outside, unless you knew it was there.

Over next to the pond Emily could see that, Billy already had a blanket spread out on the bank, a tackle box, some nice big red worms, two poles, an ice chest and a boom box waiting on them, to enjoy their day.

“All prepared” she bite on her lips, and shook her head in approval.

“Ha ha” he laughed, “You surprised”

She tilted her head to the side, smiling, her eyes sparkled, he’s proud of his self. “I am, yes.” She answered him and she was.

Laughing, Billy picked up a pole, handing it to her. “Do you need me to bait your hook?”  He ask, she watched his eye’s roam from her breast to her toes, and smiled at him.

“No thank you I can bait my own hook.”

“Let’s fish then, Hey you want to smoke a joint first," he pulled the joint out of his pocket and waved it in her face, she had never really been a smoker, having smoked a few with Billy lately, she found herself enjoying the gentle high it gave her. He touched her hand as she reached to turn the music on, and gazed into her eyes. His touched caused her skin to tingle and his gaze held hers, she had to pull her eyes away, before she got lost in them.

"Sure" she answered letting the moment pass. He lite the joint and passed it to her. She took a long drag of it. "This is good” she giggled, already feeling the effects.

"Yeah, I hope this year’s crop is even better," she watched him as he eyed her body again. She liked the way he looked at her, and teased him by pushing her breast out toward him, noticing the muscles of his arm bulging as he token the joint.

When finished with the joint, “Lets fish” Billy said as he motioned to the pond with his head. They threw their lines in the water and made small talk about the sun, the day, the woods, school, while fishing.

They each caught several fish and threw them back. “Nice fishing Emily” He smiled at her.

“You want to smoke another joint” he ask and teased her with it, pushing it toward her, then pulling it back as she reached for it laughing.

“Why not” she was enjoying herself with him.

They smoked the second joint, by then they were both giggling at each other’s silly remarks. Laughing, Billy began tickling, her stomach, she enjoyed his hands on her body as she rolled and giggled trying hard to tickle him back. The feel of his body, and his hands touching her, soon caused her body to ache for more of him.

He reached his hand to her face, his eyes twinkled as they adored her. Billy let his fingers trail down her cheek to the top of her button of her low-cut shirt, then gently unbutton the top button, his fingers moving to her breast and begin to massage them. No one had ever touched her breast before, and she was startled at first, but she let him, the passion felt strong as his fingers brushed the tips of her nibbles. She heard the moan escape her lips from deep within her burning soul. He gently laid her back on the blanket and kissed her a deep kiss as their tongues intertwined, and they pulled each other closer and closer. She wanted to get even closer, but how much closer could they get, she could hear (Burn It Down by Linkin Park) blaring from the boom box, but his hands felt good as they explored her body. He sighed as she ran hers hands down his bare back, his body warm, her emotions exploding, He gently unbuttoned the rest of her shirt, kissing her breast as he, slid the shirt off her arms. Emily’s heart raced, her breathing rabid as he kissed her neck, and she moved her head to give him full ranch of her as she tried to stifle a the moan she could not hold back. She ran her fingers through his hair and down his back again, he was warm and muscular. She wanted more but she knew she would have to stop this passion soon, she couldn't let it go much further, confused because she wanted more, her heart saying don’t stop, her mind saying stop Emily, you fool. As his hands roamed over her buttocks she wrapped her legs around him, and kissed harder, letting his hands roam a little longer, to the forbidden places within her soul, she didn't want to stop, but finally she set up and broke away as quickly as she could.

"I'm still a virgin Billy, OH my God,” out of breath, she couldn't believe how badly she wanted him, "Let’s get to know each other better Ok." She laid back down, her mind in a whirl as he pulled her close into his arms.

"Ok" he said, the sweat dripping off his body, “Ok Baby” he kissed her again.

As the sun began to set, they walked back to the creek hand in hand then parted ways. “See you tomorrow" she waved.

“See you tomorrow” He kissed her tenderly.

On the walk home Emily felt good, even a little giddy, "he makes me happy" she thought. He was handsome, sensitive and funny, she liked all of that about him, but she knew her dad and brothers would never agree to let her see him, she feared someone would die first. What the hell am I doing? It didn’t matter what she was doing, she knew she would see him again, she wanted him to much and had for as long as she could remember. Something will have to change.

She came off the path as her brothers and dad were walking from the corn field toward the house. She had been gone longer then she should have been, her mother probably had supper fixed and she should have helped her. The agreement they had made since she wasn't working this summer, maybe she could salvage herself and set the table, she thought.

Then she see Joe waved at her, as he ran toward her. She stopped on the porch and waited on him. “Hey where you been all day” he ask?

“Reading” she answered quickly. He looked at her strangely she thought.

“Really, where’s your book?” he looked at her kind of funny, and she couldn’t tell what he was thinking.

“I must have left it.” She tried to smile innocently.

He started to speak, then he thought for a minute, looking at her. “Really Emily, you set down on this wet ground and read all day, I don’t believe you.” He said as he walked inside.

She slowly walked in the house with Joes words on her mind. She was going to have to be more careful she thought.

Billy couldn’t believe it as he walked through the woods to his house and talked to his self along the way. “Emily Canton, man, I love her already” he laughed. He couldn’t believe he felt this way, he had dated a lot of girls but never in his life had he felt this way about any girl. “A virgin” he said out loud. “I hadn’t known a virgin since I was twelve.” He knew if he were to pursue this relationship with her, that would be it, it would be him and her for life. He wasn’t ready to give her up yet, oh no, he felt connected with her like they belonged together. A bond that could not be broken, by anyone, he wouldn’t let it. He wants every piece of her, nothing left out. When he looks into her eyes, it’s as if he could step into them and never come back. “I love her” he said.

As he approached his house Billy saw his older brother John in the yard, “Hey you got my hundred dollars” Billy stuck his hand out for the money laughing.

John looked at him as if he were crazy “Really Billy, you really took that Canton girl out, are you crazy, Bro?” Billy laughed again.

Their Dad, Andy was fixing a board on the porch and looked toward them and ask “What’s going on boys?” John pointed at Billy.

“Billy here, has gone and took that Canton girl out Dad.” John spit on the ground as he talked.

Andy stopped working. Billy could see the anger on his Dads face as he walked over to him and hit him hard on the head. “Really Billy, you idiot, Emily Canton, son?” he shook his head, and hit Billy again “Emily Canton, she’s a pretty little thing, looks like her mother, but I advise you Billy not to see her again.” He pointed his finger as he talked, Billy wanted to open his mouth and bite it off, but thought better of it. “She will be trouble, and I don’t want this family going through that kind of trouble. You will start a war Billy. A war son” he shouted.

Billy knew this could end with a fight, but he couldn’t help himself, he would continue his relationship with Emily, he felt complete when they were together. She was in his heart now, her kiss’s poison to his soul, like he couldn’t get away from her or close enough to her, he won’t let her go, ever. Billy went to his room and slammed the door.

He set down on the bed then reached under it wrapping his fingers around the jar of shine he kept under his bed. He put the jar to his lips and took a long drink as he thought about his day with Emily and his plan to keep her.

Ed walked into the room and Billy felt his stare on him. “What did you do today Bro?”

Billy thought about his answer. “I went fishing”

Ed laughed and shook his head, with his hands on his hips. “Dad didn’t hit you in the head like that for going fishing Billy.”

Billy took another long drink, finishing about half the jar, “No, I went fishing with Emily.” Billy watched as Ed set down his bed in the little room they shared and lay his head in his hands. “I’m not going to give her up Ed.”

“Why not” Ed shouted “Why not Billy, Man.” Ed pulled a joint out from under his pillow and lite it. “Billy you have to get over this obsession or whatever it is you have with this girl.” He passed the joint to Billy.

“I love her Ed”

CHAPTER NINE

Tues 12th June

I hate housework with a passion, dam-It, uh, Emily groaned as she pushed the vacuum cleaner back and forth. This floor don’t even need vacuuming, groaning again. She laughed, this carpet is so brown. You can’t even see dirt on it anyway. She continued pushing the vacuum cleaner back and forth as she thought about Billy, and she wondered if she would see him again after yesterday, stupid Emily.

All Emily wanted was to see him, and be anywhere but here. Billy’s roaming hands had haunted her throughout the night. She couldn’t even sleep, tossing and turning all night. She couldn’t believe she had come so close to sleeping with him, in her first ever make out session. A Johnson, the mortal family enemy, the popular Billy Johnson, who all the girls liked, and she wanted to spend more time with him, but now she wondered if he really wanted to see her again.

Emily reached to pull the couch out when she felt her back pocket vibrate, she took the phone out of her pocket and opened it, it was Billy, a little giggle slipped out of her mouth, hey do you want to go on a road trip with me today, the message read. She felt her smile spread ear to ear. “Yes” she said and quickly shoved the couch back in place then put the vacuum cleaner in the closet.

“I’m finished Mom” she lied, and quickly text Billy back, I’ll be ready soon where can I meet you? Yes she giggled again and ran to her room.

Down by the creek, I’ll take you back down my road to the truck. He sent back.

Emily took a quick shower then quickly pulled a pair of some cut off jean shorts out of her dresser drawer, and a short belly top. Threw her hair in a ponytail, brushed her teeth and put on some cotton candy body spray, all in a matter of minutes. Then ran quickly down the stairs, yelled “Bye Mom” as she ran out the door, she heard her Moms voice trailing behind her,

“Where are you going Emily?” She pretended not to hear her, and continued walking toward the creek. Excited about spending another day with Billy. “A road trip. Yes” she said again.

She saw Billy from the distance and ran towards him. His broad smile shined on his face, “Where are we going?” she shouted laughing before she reached him.

“Tennessee,” he reached out and grabbed her hand, pulling her to him and kissed her. “I have to run some shine for Dad.” His eyes didn’t leave hers. “Come on Ed’s waiting in the car and he’s already fit to be tied.” Billy laughed. “He wants to know why I had to go to the woods before we got on the road. Boy ant he going to be surprised.”

“Then we need to get going Hu.” She laughed with him. Emily felt the excitement in Billy’s voice.

“Come on Baby, this is going to be fun.” Billy shouted and laughed leading her through the woods to the road, almost pulling her. They reached the truck quickly and Emily watched as Ed’s eyes widened, when they walked up to the truck, and she smiled at him. Billy open the driver’s side door smiling toward Ed as he let her in, and smacked her butt as she climbed across the seat. “Oh Billy” she laughed. Then she heard Ed’s voice speak kind of coldly,

“Well Hello Emily Canton” Ed snorted, like what the hell are you doing with her Billy.

Billy jumped behind the wheel “Road Trip Baby, whoo, Tennessee Bound,” he shouted as he started the truck and laid his hand on Emily’s upper leg. Emily noticed Ed’s eyes glance at Billy’s hand then he quickly turned to look out the window. She laughed at his surprise of the situation. They pulled out onto the road and Emily watched as Ed tried to lower his self as they passed the Canton land. “Ha, ha” Emily couldn’t help but laugh.

“Don’t be such a pussy Ed. They can’t see me in the truck, any way my brothers aren’t anybody to be scared of.” Emily and Billy both laughed.

“I wouldn’t be so sure about that, have you meant your brothers Emily.” Ed tried to be sarcastic.

“Jesus Ed,” Still laughing “I’ve fought with them, yes” she laughed again.

“I’ve never known you to say any more than two words in our whole lives Emily, when did you become such a smart ass and what are you two up to anyway, you know the family history, shit” Ed stomped on the floorboard and made a fist.

Billy shook his head smiling, “Ah Ed, what are we up to,” he laughed “Were going to Tennessee Bro, to deliver some shine, for Dad.” Billy and Emily both continued laughing. Ed was clearly upset and reached to turn the radio on, tuning it in to the local Country station.

“Light that joint that’s in the glove box there Ed.” Billy reached under his seat and pulled out a jar of strawberry moonshine. Emily saw the smile grow on Billy’s face as he raised his eyebrows. Then turned the lid to open it, took a drink and passed the jar to Emily. (Eric Church’s song Put a Drink in my hand) came on the radio and Billy began singing. “Go Billy sing it” Emily and Ed both cheered him on.

“Nice voice Billy hit it. All you got a do is put” Emily chimed in singing with him, as she through her arms in the air dancing. He leaned in and kissed her.

“Whoo, Yeah” She shouted. Ed and Emily started passing the shine to Billy every time he began the sentence “Put a Drink”, by the time he got out “in my hand”, the shine was in his hand. Then they would double over with laughter, slapping their knees.

When the song ended “Oh Baby,” Billy laughed “Here’s your half of the hundred”

Emily’s eye’s lite up “Oh my God” they both laughed as Ed looked at them and shook his head, but he was laughing to, and she thought he might be warming up to the ideal of her. Billy floored the gas as they hit the winding back road toward Tennessee. “We are going the back road baby, since we have a truck full of shine.”

Billy drove fast, with one hand on the steering wheel and the other one on her leg. She wondered how often he took this trip, she was amazed at how well he took the curves, like a race car driver she thought. She was suddenly aware of his hand massaging her upper leg and she yearned for more of him, and didn’t know how much longer could she hold out, without losing herself with him? She rubbed her leg closer to his, as his fingers trailed up and down her leg. It felt good. She felt as if they could be of one mind, bold with him, or a risk taker, and she knew that she was changing, she could feel it in her soul. She did love him.

They soon reached the Tennessee line, and Billy pulled off onto a dirt road traveling a mile or so. Then turned into the driveway of a rundown log house. Billy and Ed got out, unloaded the shine and Billy walked into the house, leaving Emily alone in the truck with Ed.

He suddenly turned to her, she could see that the expression on his face had changed, serious now, his voice angry.

“What the hell do you and Billy think you’re doing?”

Emily was taken aback but was ready to hold her on “What do you mean Ed,” she knew what he meant but the shine had made her bold.

His face was twisted with anger “You know what I mean, you are going to start a war, this little feud, will change to a war,” She thought she felt spit come from his lips.

She was afraid he was right, but wasn’t about to let him know that, “You can’t blame this all on me Ed”

“OH don’t you worry your pretty little head, Billy will hear about it to, you can count on that.” He answered her stiffly.

Emily looked Ed in the eyes, “I’m not talking about Billy. I’m talking about this stupid feud. I don’t understand why I can’t see Billy just because of our ancestors. I love Billy, I can’t change that, and neither can anyone else.” She turned away from him, as Billy was walking back to the truck.

“Let’s go guys”  Billy said as he opened the truck door, Emily threw her arms around his neck and grabbed him, putting her lips to his and gave him a long tongue twisting kiss, “I love you Billy.” She said as Billy smiled and licked his lips wetting them, “Um” he laughed, “you smell like cotton candy, I like that Baby”

Emily knew that this had angered Ed even more, but she didn’t care, she did love Billy and she wasn’t going to be told she couldn’t see him. That was her decision to make, and no one else’s.

“Get a room” Ed said, Emily and Billy laughed. “Let’s go get a burger Baby” Billy said.

“A burger and fries, sure Billy” Emily couldn’t remember laughing so much before these past few days.

They drove a little ways to a diner, Billy smiled at Emily and held her hand as they walked in, and set at a table near the front. She felt famished, they all where. “may I take your order please the waitress ask, three orders of your burger baskets please, I want coke, what about you two, Billy looked around the table and ask. “Sure” Emily and Ed both answered. “Oh and Ice cream please” Billy told the waitress. They all laughed. After a day of shine and pot, Emily felt giddy and she knew she was high. They talked for a while, and the waitress brought the food, “Thank you” Emily told the waitress. They ate and talked then Ed tried to talk with them seriously about them seeing each other, Emily picked up a French fries and tossed it at Ed. They all laughed food fight started.

“Stop it guys” Ed said his hands in front of his face, but he couldn’t help but laugh, Emily thought.

“Come on Ed lighten up” Billy laughed as they finished their meal. Emily noticed Billy’s eyes glancing around the restaurant, the waitress walked through the swinging doors to what Emily suspected to be the kitchen.

“Let’s go guys” Billy suddenly laughed and whispered in Emily’s ear, “hurry were not paying.”

“Shit Billy” She said, feeling a bit of fright, but laughed, as they rushed to the truck. Billy slinging the door open as they all crawled through the driver’s door. Billy quickly through the keys in the ignition and started the truck.

“What the hell Billy” Ed yelled at him as Billy floored it out of the parking lot and down the road.

“Whoo, hoo” they all shouted looking back to make sure they weren’t being followed.

Emily had never had so much fun, the fear and passion mixed together, fueled her soul, with excitement. Excitement like she had never felt before. “I love you Billy” she shouted and kissed him, as they raced down the road at high speeds. The windows were down and she loved the air on her face. She pulled her hair out of the rubber band and let her hair blow around her in the wind. Ed lit another joint as Emily passed the jar of shine to Billy, she let her hand gently touch his as he took the jar. A thrill went through her body. Ed passed the joint to her and she watched as his eyes, glanced at Billy’s hand as he massaged her leg, then he quickly looked back out the window.

Get over it Ed she thought to herself, I love Billy.
