The Next Morning

I was still alive. But why? So much blood left my body that I could barely lift my head. I was weak and drained. The strange thing is, the longer I lived the more I wanted life. I needed to get this bitch back for everything she’d done to me. It couldn’t end like this. But I knew I wouldn’t be alive long if I didn’t get help. But how could I? I was hidden under my stairs. And then I heard a voice. A different voice. So with everything I had in me, and with all of the strength I held inside, I screamed to the top of my lungs.

“HELLLLLLLLP!!!

JAYDEN
PIMP FAST JAYDEN

Jayden’s face-hardened and her lips stiffened as the two-time Grammy award winning gospel singer’s voice boomed from the speakers upstairs. She hated gospel and any mention of the Lord. She’d been in a battle with him ever since she was a kid and every prayer she threw up to heaven was ignored.

“Fuck God!” She spat walking around her room. “Just leave already!”
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Jayden stopped in her footsteps and looked at the closed wooden door.
Her chest filled with air before she let out a breathy and irritated, “Yessssss?”
“I’m about to leave for work. Can I talk to you for a minute?”
Jayden stomped her foot put her hand on her hip and flung the bedroom door open. “Yes, Ms. Nadine?”
Nadine, her landlord, wearing a light blue housekeeping uniform that made her look larger than her actual husky build, smiled. Her yellowing teeth and thinning black hair layered in dandruff flakes gave character to a face that was growing older than its fifty-year-old age. Yet her disposition was so mellowing that most people smiled when she entered a room.
“I see you didn’t touch the food I made you yesterday. It’s still in the fridge.” She reached to touch her on the shoulder but Jayden moved back. “Is everything okay?”
“I wasn’t hungry.” She frowned.
Nadine smiled awkwardly and removed a black withered bible with gold lettering from her brown purse. The strap on her purse was coming off and was held in place by a staple and a lot of silver duct tape. “I wanted to pray with you before I left for work.” She paused. “Xion told me you haven’t been able to get in contact with your mother or sister and I wanted to offer you some words of encouragement.”
“And I told you I don’t believe in God, His Son or the Holy Spirit.” Her words made Nadine’s face, which was covered in a net of wrinkles, tremble as if she were a child who had just gotten smacked by her mother.
“Just a few lines, Jayden. Please.”
“Nadine, maybe I should move.”
Silence.
“Please don’t!” She placed the bible in her purse and backed out of the room. Yet she remained in the doorway. “I really need the money or my house will go into foreclosure. Xion can’t help me like he use to. He don’t have that job in construction no more.” She continued, not knowing he use to work with Shaggy in the drug business.
“Then you have to let me have my privacy, Nadine!” she yelled. I don’t want to hurt your feelings, but if that fucking God of yours was any good, you wouldn’t be broke and I wouldn’t have to be here.”
She slammed the door in her face.
It took a moment before she could hear her white work shoes click clacking up the steps. It took even longer before the ceiling creaked, indicating that Nadine was now upstairs. But it wasn’t until the music was shut off, the floor moaned, the keys jingled and the door closed, that she knew she was finally gone. And she could get down to what was bothering her the most.
Grabbing the house phone, she dialed a number and waited for Gucci, one of her girls, to answer. In the weeks passed she had spent over a thousand dollars on them collectively, to buy their friendships and eventually their pussy. And now that the day came for them to make good on her gifts, none of them were answering their phones. They had a meeting at 6:00 PM that evening and it was now 5:30.
“Where the fuck are these bitches?” She frowned, talking to herself.
When her feet grew tired of walking, she plopped on the queen size mahogany bed that Xion bought her within the small cramped room. She could see her reflection in the large mirror on the matching dresser. She looked older than she had just a few months ago. But it made sense, a few months ago she thought she was a boy, now she was a teenage girl. A few months ago she was living under her mother’s tyranny and now she was trying to run a successful sex operation. A lot of shit had changed.
When her personal home phone line rang she jumped up, picked up the receiver and answered. “Hello?”
Silence.
“Hello!”
More silence.
She looked into the receiver as if it would show any indications of being broken.
“Hello! Who is this?”
She heard a click and hung up. Sitting back on the bed she bit her nails until they bled again. A habit she picked up in the weeks preceding. Calls like that came all the time and she was starting to worry about her safety.
Glancing at the six chairs against the wall that she kept aligned to hold meetings with the members of Thirteen Flavors, a sex operation disguised as a baby-sitting service, she wondered if any of it was worth it. Her mind raced back to having to steal from the grocers just to survive when she was back in Texas, and how she was always picked on about her dirty clothing at school. When those childhood memories resurfaced, she answered with an overwhelming, yes. It is all worth it.
Since she left home, Jayden was finally starting to get in a business state of mind. The only problem was, she could barely read and she wasn’t all that good with money if it was in large quantities. So in order to create the flyers, and advertise and keep things in line she relied heavily on Passion. She deemed Passion her assistant and bottom bitch.
She was too embarrassed to ask for Xion’s help because she didn’t want him thinking she wasn’t smart, knowing that any weakness could be used against her in the future. She didn’t even let the girls know she could barely read, count or write. Whenever something required those skills, she would suddenly act as if she didn’t have time for those matters. In her own time she would study elementary school books to learn the basics. Despite the learning curve she was under, she was determined to make money. She just needed to find a way to keep her girls in line first.
Looking at the Gucci watch her father bought, his first gift to her, she frowned when she saw it was now fifteen minutes before her meeting and not one of them had bothered to confirm.
Reaching into her brown Gucci purse, she saw she had six missed calls on her cell phone. With the advertisements they placed mostly in grocery stores and on Craigslist, they were getting calls everyday. It didn’t take dirty men long to read between the lines when they saw her flyers. Besides, the ad was subliminal but sexy enough so that a horny man, if nothing else would be persuaded to place a call, even if he didn’t have children. They occasionally got real babysitting offers and they would claim to be booked up for those specific dates.
The ad showed a picture of Passion, Foxie, Na Na, Gucci and Queen with three neighborhood kids in the living room upstairs. The girls were all wearing tiny jean shorts with colorful t-shirts as they posed in various parts of the living room. To play off of the name Thirteen Flavors, they held ice cream cones in their hands and looked innocent although slightly seductive. Underneath the picture was a message that read, ‘
Let us tame the bad boys and girls of your life. Thirteen Flavors babysitting services…our girls are available anytime of day or night.

They received so many calls that they weaved out a lot of crazies before finally settling on six different clients for the weekend and one for Passion tonight. But before they did anything, Jayden wanted to meet with them about her expectations. That’s why the meeting was so important.
Frustrated that more time passed, she placed another call to Gucci, who despite secretly not liking her, always answered her phone when Jayden called. She didn’t want to call her but now she had no choice.
“Hello…hello?” Jayden yelled.
“Yes, Jayden.” Gucci said sarcastically.
“I didn’t expect you to answer. I mean…I been calling everybody all day.”
“Well I’m not everybody now am I?”
“Look…where are you? And everybody else? We have a meeting in less than five minutes.”
She sighed. “We not coming.”
“What you mean you not coming?”
“Just what I said. Na Na’s mother sick so we at her house. Plus we not really serious about all that 13 flavors shit. I mean, you cool and all, Jayden, but you taking this prostitution shit too far.”
“Oh really? After all the money I gave ya’ll and after all the shit I bought?”
“We thank you for it.” She paused. “But like I said, Na Na’s mother is sick.”
The thought of not making money with her business bothered her greatly. She played with the strap on her purse as she struggled with what to say next. “I’m sorry to hear about Na Na’s mother. Did ya’ll want me to come over?”
“No.”
“Well let me speak to Na Na.”
She sighed. “Hold on. Let me see if she can talk.”
Jayden heard loud music and boys talking in the background. In her mind it didn’t sound like they were in Na Na’s house because her mother didn’t allow them to turn the TV up let alone have boys in the house.
Jayden stood up and waited for Na Na to get on the phone when suddenly the background noise stopped. She took the phone from her ear and saw that either the call disconnected or that Gucci hung up. She called back several times before someone answered.
“Why the fuck you hang up?!”
“Jayden…this Na Na. What’s up?”
“What’s going on? Is your mother sick or not?”
“She is, but we decided to come to the meeting. Gucci got stuff messed up when you called earlier. We in front of Passion’s house now trying to pick her up.”
Jayden felt sick with how they were treating her all of a sudden. What was with all the games?
A few more seconds passed of silence. “Is Passion there?”
“I don’t know yet.” Then she paused and yelled, “Go to the back door and knock hard, Gucci! She may be sleep!”
“Who driving?” Jayden asked, interrupting their search.
“We in my mother’s truck.”
“She ain’t there!” Gucci yelled.
Jayden heard her. “Fuck! Let me see if I can get a hold of this bitch again!” She paused. “But you tell her if you talk to her before me that I’m sick of this shit and we ain’t gotta be friends if it’s like this because I’m all about my money.” Jayden ended the call and called Passion’s cousin house.
Her uncle answered the phone. “Hey, Mike, is Passion over there?”
“Who is this? Jayden?”
She sighed. “Yeah.”
“When you gonna let me taste that pussy?”
“Fuck you talking about?”
“Every time I see you walk up in this bitch I be thinking about the same thing, eating that pussy.” He paused. “I know that shit good to ain’t it?”
It sure is, nigga. I ain’t fucked nobody and even if I did it damn sure wouldn’t be you.
She thought. Jayden never had vaginal sex and as far as she was concerned, there was no need. She got her rocks off every other night by fingering her pussy until it was wet, before running over the tip of her clit with slick fingers. Once she figured out how to get an orgasm, she never stopped.
“How come every time I call there you coming at me sideways?” She paused. “Where your wife at anyway?”
“She not here. But fuck her!” he paused. “You gonna come over here or not? ’Cause just the sound of your voice got the veins on my dick pulsating.”
“Look, I ain’t got time for all that,” she glared, “tell her I called and I’m looking for her.”
“You tell her yourself.” He said. “She hitchhiked over that boyfriend of hers house since she couldn’t steal my car. I’m sick of her taking my shit and I think she got a key made.”
“Where is her car?”
“It’s broke again. So now she think my shit belongs to her.”
She slammed the phone in his face and was about to call Xion. When she picked up the phone Passion’s uncle was still on the line. “You young bitches are all the same! Dumb!” He yelled before hanging up.
She shook her head and dialed Xion’s number. The moment she heard his voice she said, “I need you.”
“Finally you gonna give me some of that pussy?” He laughed. “’Cause I’m tired of fingering you while you beat my dick.”
“All that?” She laughed. “On the phone? Really?”
“You know I’m serious.”
“Later, for that, daddy. I gotta find Passion first. You mind taking me to her boyfriend’s house?”
“Is something wrong?”
“It’s just girl business.” Xion had no idea about Jayden’s hustle and she didn’t intend on telling him either. “Nothing you need to worry about, daddy.”
“Aight…but don’t she fuck with the nigga Coop?”
“Yeah. So?”
“You know he half crazy right?”
“You scared?” Jayden questioned.
“Yeah aight.” He laughed. “I’m on my way.”
Fifteen minutes later Xion pulled up in his new white Yukon with rims. Jayden walked out the house and turned around to lock the door. He eyed the way her round ass filled the pockets of her jeans and her shiny black hair rested in the middle of her back. When she turned around she smiled at him and sauntered seductively to the car.
When she got in she eyed him. Xion was sexy all the way around the board. The sun bounced off his vanilla colored skin and she loved the way his white t-shirt hugged his muscular arms.
“You hungry?” He asked pulling down his red baseball cap.
“You look good.” She said eying him again.
“Good enough to fuck?”
“Xion!” She playfully hit his arm. “Stop talking to me like that.”
“I’m serious. When you gonna let me make you feel good?”
“You do it every night you come over and flip my clit.” She smiled. “Let’s get over one step at a time.”
He frowned a little and said, “What you want to eat?”
“Nothing heavy right now. Maybe some nuggets or something.”
He took her to get the food and she shared a twelve-piece nugget box with him as he drove. Dipping sauce on one she placed it into his mouth and he ate it, gently sucking her finger.
“Xion, please stop.” She said through tight lips. “We’ll fuck when I’m ready.”
He shook his head. “You know Shaggy at school telling niggas I stole his bitch right?” He chewed. “I had six different niggas approach me about that shit yesterday.”
“And you care about that ‘cause?”
“’Cause that was how I use to get my money. Now that I don’t work for him no more, I gotta get my shit elsewhere.”
“Why you telling me?”
“Truthfully?”
“Yeah, Xion.” She paused. “I hate when you beat around the bush with me because I know something’s up.”
“’Cause I wanted to see if you could talk to your pops. Maybe he can put me on. If nothing else, holla at Shaggy for me. I’m use to a certain lifestyle, Jayden and a nigga been broke since he cut me off. I can’t even help my aunt Nadine out no more.”
“Aight, X. I’ll see what I can do.” She was wondering what she could possibly say to her father. Although their bond was growing by the day, it was still new. “I can’t make no promises though.”
He winked at her. “Thanks, ma.”
When Xion got to Coop’s street they saw people looking in one direction. The closer they got they could hear Passion and him fussing before the car even stopped. Their voices were so loud, that neighbors looked out of their windows while others walked outside and straight stared at the house.
“You sure you wanna knock on the door?” Xion asked looking at the window. “This nigga’s a handful.”
“I’m sure.” She smiled. “Plus me and Passion got business and I need to rap to her tonight. It can’t wait.”
