“I can’t.” His hand on her breast fondled and squeezed, working the nipple to a stiff point beneath the material of her muddy shirt. His hand palming her pussy rubbed in a pressured circle, caressing her clit and igniting a deeper fire within her womb. “You feel too good. I need to touch you. I need you.”

“Then touch me.” She reached up and back with both arms and wound them around his neck. Her fingers found the hairs at his nape. She fisted them. He sucked a breath through gritted teeth, and she felt the low moan rumble in his chest.

“I am. Gods, I will. I need to touch all of you. I need you out of these damned clothes.” Even as he swore, he was ripping at her shirt.

Elena heard the material tear a nanosecond before she felt the cooler air of the room move over the exposed fiery flesh of her abdomen and shoulders. The air hit her breasts next as he ripped her bra from her body in a practiced twist of one hand. She caught his wrists as he reached for her jeans.

“The power, Tavius, that’s what you’ve got to stop.” She would go mad from the sheer needs racking her body soon if the pressure continued. She never felt anything like the supercharged passion building between them. “I can’t stand it. It’s too much.”

He stilled, angling his head to look at her. “It’s not mine.”

She believed him. The cloud of confusion and sincerity in his gaze told her the truth. “I’m not doing it. I thought you were. It’s the same thing that happened in the hallway.”

“Only stronger, more intense.” He nodded. “I felt it then, too. We both did.”

“What the hell is it?” Elena’s voice shook with fear as much as arousal.

“I don’t know.” Tavius closed his eyes, his expression strained as if fighting an inward battle only he knew. When he looked at her again and spoke, she understood. “If it scares you that much, if it’s hurting you, I’ll leave.”

Leave
?
Not a chance, pal
.

He must have seen the argument in her gaze because he said, “This has been building all day. Whatever
it
is. Hell, it’s been building since the moment we crossed paths in the woods. I know you’ve felt it, too. I can’t be around you without wanting to touch you, without needing to feel you and this…
energy
is only getting stronger.”

“The last time you stopped touching me I woke power drunk. Trust me when I say that hurt.”

“Then I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t?”

“You’re damned if you don’t take this all the way this time. I want more than your mouth and hands on me. I want you inside me, Tavius. I want this”—she reached back between their bodies, turning her hand to cover his rigid cock with her palm—“inside me before whatever the fuck this is between us makes both of us explode.”

“And if we explode when I’m inside you?”

Elena released his wrists because he’d already started working free the button and zipper of her jeans. “Can you think of a better way to die?”

He chuckled and bit the back of her shoulder as he shucked her pants and panties down her legs. His hands left her body only long enough to do the same to his own pants and underwear. Then she felt him, impossibly hard, deliciously thick, supremely ready, and stretching along the upper crevice of her ass.

“Tavius.” She breathed his name as more whips of electrified lust slashed at her breasts, pussy lips, and sopping channel within.

“I can’t wait, Elena.” He sounded strained as his hands returned to her hips, his grip tight and commanding. “This power, ah Gods, woman, what are you doing to me?”

Elena caught herself with her hands on the table between the double beds as he bent her forward. One of his arms moved to encircle her, his fingers splaying on her lower belly, holding her steady. He shifted, and his cock nudged her pussy hole from behind.

“Now. Tavius, please, now.” She was begging and mindless to stop it. She pushed back with her hips at the same time he thrust forward. The simultaneous moves drove him balls-deep inside her.

The air around them crackled as sparks of wondrous light filled the room. Magic, both metaphysical and carnal, seized the moment. Control over mind, body, and soul was overrated. Nothing beyond total surrender seemed possible.

“By the Gods, Elena.” Tavius tightened his grip, fingers digging into the tender flesh of her hips as he eased his cock out of her only to slam inside her once more. Each spectacular thrust, each momentous gasp and low-throated growl, brought another shower of white-hot sparks raining down around them.

Elena clamped her eyes shut as tears of joy blurred her vision. Sensations so sharp, so sweet, caused her to spasm wildly. Her body rocked against Tavius, hands fisting the sides of the table aiding her support, as passion climbed higher and higher.

“So good. Tavius, it’s so good.” She had never felt this alive, this…
empowered
. Tears leaked down her cheeks as a wave of indescribable energies pumped furiously through her blood.

“Awe, muirnin, I can’t get enough of you.” One hand skimmed up her arched back to her nape. His fingers laced in her hair and tugged.

The bite of pain laced with pleasure that sizzled through her as he used his newfound hold to pull her up only intensified the magic. He continued to fuck her, hard and fast assaults of his cock in her sopping pussy even as he folded himself over her.

“Look at me, Elena.” The command sounded strained, as if every fiber of his being fought to hold onto a modicum of his control. “I need to see you, muirnin. I need to look into your eyes as you come apart around me.”

Elena forced her eyes open and gasped at the lightning bolts flashing through the electric blue of his. His dark hair was matted at his temples. Sweat beaded on his brows and upper lip. His expression was one of intensely amazed concentration and something else she couldn’t find the will to define through the haze in her own mind.

“I don’t know what this is.”

Elena whimpered as his thrusts slowed, as the strain in his voice grew thicker still.

“I can’t explain what’s happening. All I know is you’ve done something to me. Being inside you right now is,
Gods
, it can’t end here.”

What did he mean by that? Elena wanted to ask. Heart beating furiously in her throat, she couldn’t ask. She didn’t know what this was either. She only knew she felt crazed, on the brink of a major discovery of satisfaction she never before thought to experience. She licked her lips to tell him something, anything, but he grunted and thrust his cock so deeply inside her it lifted her feet off the floor.

“It won’t end here.” Conviction rang in his voice, turned his face to a mask of dominating determination.

Elena cried out, floundering in his arms in an effort to feel the vicious thrust again and again. She wanted him to fuck her. She wanted him to go wild inside her. She wanted
him
.

“Come for me, muirnin. Come for me now.”

It was an order she couldn’t have disobeyed if she wanted to. The passion in his thrusts combined with the intense claiming in his gaze took her over the edge. “Come with me, Tavius.” She screamed the words as the climax ripped through her. The impact took her breath away.

Wildly, Tavius continued to fuck her, ramming his cock in her convulsing channel again and again until she thrashed in his arms. Tavius gave a primal shout as he found his own release, and she came a second time as furiously as the first. Elena barely heard his warning over the rapid drumming of her heart as his body folded to the floor, taking her down with him.

“Shit.” Tavius swore, laughing breathlessly as he shifted her to lie beside him, cradling her in the crook of his arm. “Sorry.”

Elena lifted her head to glare at him, hesitating when she saw two heads through the intoxicated blur left behind by the power. She blinked and her vision cleared, though her head still felt a bit wonky.

She wanted to make light of what just happened. She wanted to ask something like, “Sorry for what, exactly? Giving me not one but two orgasms that not a word in the English dictionary can define?” She couldn’t do it.

He must have seen the turmoil swirling in her expression because he cupped her cheek, scrapping his thumb lightly at the flesh still dampened by her recent tears beneath her right eye. “We’re going to have to figure out what’s going on here.”

Elena didn’t need to ask what he meant. The power still lingered in the room, prickling her flesh, making the air thick and hard to breathe. But as she stared at him, she realized the alien power wasn’t their only problem. The band tightening in her chest confirmed there was so much more to be worried about.

The
Harry Potter
theme song jingled from her cell on the table, taking away any chance of response. Tavius lifted a brow, a smile playing with the corner of his lips. “Catchy tune.” The almost smile gave way to a frown. “Why do I get the feeling it belongs to Cedric?”

“Because it does.” Elena pushed herself up and reached for the phone.

“The man could ruin a wet dream,” Tavius muttered behind her.

Elena shot him a look. “I promise you what just happened was definitely not a dream.”

Cedric didn’t give her time to utter a hello. “Tell me later exactly how, out of all the beings I’ve encountered, you are the only one who can shield against me.”

“Shield against you?” Elena repeated dumbly. Cedric’s ability to read through any shield proved his greatest power. What was he saying? That he tried to make a mental connection with her and
failed
? Impossible.

“That’s what I said.” Cedric didn’t sound happy, and his next words confirmed his anger wasn’t merely because he hadn’t been able to reach her mind. “Where the hell are you? Never mind. It doesn’t matter. I’m at The Morrigan Museum of Arts. I need you here
now
. I can’t get passed the cops.”

Elena sat up straighter, head spinning. “Cedric, slow down, will you? What’s going on? What cops?” Those were just a few of the questions that started playing ping-pong in her brain.

Cedric’s sigh carried loud and clear through the phone. “Le Mort has been here, Elena. I tracked him here, but I didn’t get a read on him until it was too late. It’s a bloodbath. I don’t know how many, but it’s bad. You’ve got to get us in.”

Though Cedric was a LUST agent same as she, Elena carried a badge and credentials he hadn’t bothered to obtain. He didn’t usually need them, seeing as how he most often worked alone and undercover.

“I’ll be there as fast as I can.”

Cedric rattled off the address and Elena cut the connection. She turned to find Tavius already on his feet and pulling on his clothes. Regret slammed into her like a two-ton weight as she paused, watching him. What they shared—whatever the hell transpired between them—had happened while innocent people were being slaughtered across town by the creature they should’ve been capturing.

How would she ever find the strength to live with herself knowing that? How would she ever find the words to explain her actions to Michael and Gideon? They would know, of course. One tap into her mind and all would be revealed. Just as Cedric would know, hell, already knew from the way he’d chastised her on the phone.

“It’s Le Mort.” Tavius made the words more statement than question, but Elena nodded anyway.

She quickly removed the rest of her tattered clothing and dressed in the extra suit she’d pulled from her emergency backpack.

“We’ll worry about the rest later. We’ll figure it out.” He closed the distance between them, taking her hands in his.

She couldn’t talk about this now, couldn’t think about it. “Do you think you can teleport us there?”

“I can damned sure try.” Tavius closed his eyes, an expression of intense concentration turning his features hard, serious. Elena felt the air stir around her, felt the white-hot sizzle of power as it raised the fine hairs on her arms. Barely a nanosecond later, the air calmed. Tavius swore a blue streak and opened his eyes. Neither of them had moved a breath from where they stood.

“It’s okay. It’s okay.” Elena didn’t waste another heartbeat, pulling him toward the door even as she rushed to reassure him. “It’s not that far. We’ll run if we have to.”

* * * *

The building that housed The Morrigan Museum of Arts looked as aged as the artifacts it contained. Built of stone and granite with marble statues and sculpted pillars, the three-story structure could’ve been teleported straight from the Middle Ages and dropped here in modern time.

Or taken from Terra, Tavius thought, feeling a bit nostalgic for the first time since leaving his own realm. The Morrigan Museum of Arts would’ve made a perfect fit in his realm, or he thought it would have until he allowed his powers to take over, to show him the secrets the walls concealed.

Carnage. Tavius had never seen anything like it. He knew of a couple of vampires who went rogue on Terra, heard the stories of their gruesome acts before capture. None of them even remotely came close to what he saw within the walls of the museum tonight.

Tavius shot a hand out, grabbing Elena’s upper arm more out of reflex than thought as they neared the yellow police tape stretched in front of the entrance. An officer stationed for crowd control met and briefly held Tavius’s gaze before returning to his scan of the people gathered along the sidewalk. He saw Cedric standing statue still on the officer’s left. Cedric’s eyes were hard, expression set, hands fisted at his sides.
