Tree Ornaments

Materials:

  • Approximately 1oz. of yarn in preferred color
  • Suggested yarn is medium weight acrylic such as Bernat Worsted
  • Crochet hook size 3.50mm (E/4)
  • Darning needle for weaving in ends of yarn when your project is completed

Gauge:

  • Can be completed in any gauge, just be sure to match your crochet hook with the recommended size on your yarn

Instructions:

Ch 5

Sl St to 1
st
Ch to form a circle

Round 1:

  • Ch 3, 3 DC
  • Ch 3, 4 DC
  • Ch 3, 4 DC
  • Ch 3
  • Sl St to first stitch to finish round

Round 2:

  • Sl St across to the next space
  • Ch 3, 3 DC, Ch 3, 4 DC, all in the same space, then Ch 1 (repeat this for 2 remaining spaces)
  • Sl St to first stitch to finish round

Round 3:

  • Sl St across to the next space
  • Ch 3, 3 DC, Ch 4, 4 DC, all in the same space
  • 1 SC in middle of DC group from previous round
  • 4 DC in next space
  • 1 SC in middle of DC group from previous round
  • 4 DC, Ch 4, 4 DC in next space
  • 1 SC in middle of DC group from previous round
  • 4 DC in next space
  • 1 SC in middle of DC group from previous round
  • 4 DC, Ch 4, 4 DC in next space
  • Ch 1, 4 DC in next space, Ch 1
  • Sl St to first stitch to finish round

Tree trunk:

  • Turn tree backwards and upside down
  • Sl St across the Ch-1 you just made at the end of the previous round
  • Sl St 1

  • Ch 3, 3 DC across the DC from the previous row
  • Tie a knot and finish off

Finish:

Create a loop for hanging your ornament by attaching a 6” piece of yarn to an appropriate spot on your tree.  Then, tie a knot in your yarn and cut the yarn, leaving a tail. 

Use your darning needle to weave the beginning tail and the ending tail into the project. 

Snowflake Ornament

Materials:

  • Small amounts of white cotton thread
  • Suggested yarn is medium weight cotton such as Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Crochet Thread
  • Crochet hook size 2.75mm (C/2)
  • Darning needle for weaving in ends of yarn when your project is completed

Gauge:

  • Stitch gauge: 35 SC = 4 inches
  • Row gauge: not applicable

Instructions:

              Ch 5

Sl St into first Ch to form a circle

Round 1:

  • 12 SC in the circle
  • Sl St to first SC to finish round

Round 2:

  • 2 SC in each of the SC from round 1 (increasing from 12 to 24)
  • Sl St to first SC to finish round

Round 3:

  • Sl St in next SC, 1 SC in each of next 2 SC, Sl St in next SC
  • Repeat 5 more times for a total of 6
  • Sl St to first stitch to finish round

Round 4:

  • Sl St in next Sl St, Sl St in next SC, Ch 3, 2 DC in next SC, Ch 3, Sl St in next Sl St
  • Repeat 5 more times for a total of 6
  • Sl St to first stitch to finish round

Round 5:

  • For this round, you will skip all Sl Sts and you will work 3 SC into the Ch-3 spaces from the previous round
  • Ch 3, DC in next DC, Ch 3, Sl St in 3

  • Repeat above instruction 5 more times for a total of 6
  • Sl St to first stitch to finish round

Finish:

Create a loop for hanging your ornament by attaching a 6” piece of yarn to an appropriate spot on your snowflake.  Then, tie a knot in your yarn and cut the yarn, leaving a tail. 

Use your darning needle to weave the beginning tail and the ending tail into the project.  Make as many snowflakes as you like.

Blocking and stiffening:

Your snowflake is likely looking less like a snowflake and more like an octopus or a spider.  To get it flat and stiff, follow these instructions:

  • Mix white glue and water 50/50 in a shallow dish
  • Dip your snowflake into the glue mixture and soak for a minute
  • Squeeze out any excess glue and flatten out on a piece of cardboard or a blocking board
  • Sprinkle with glitter, if you like
  • Use pins to secure the centre of the snowflake and all 6 sections of the snowflake so that it lies flat on the cardboard
  • Let dry and remove
Wreath Ornament

Materials:

  • Small amounts of green and red yarn
  • Suggested yarn is medium weight acrylic such as Bernat Worsted
  • Crochet hook size 4.00mm (G/6)
  • 2” plastic ring
  • Darning needle for weaving in ends of yarn when your project is completed

Gauge:

  • Stitch gauge: 10 SC = 4 inches
  • Row gauge: not applicable

Instructions:

Using green yarn, Sl St around the plastic ring

Ch 1

Round 1:

  • 36 SC around the ring
  • Sl St to first SC to finish round

Round 2:

  • Ch 1
  • SC in same stitch
  • Ch 2
  • Skip next stitch, SC in next stitch, Ch 2 (repeat around wreath)
  • Sl St to first SC to finish round

Round 3:

  • 5 DC in first Ch-2 space
  • Skip next SC
  • Sl St in next Ch-2 space, skip next SC, 5 DC in next Ch-2 space, skip next SC (repeat around wreath)
  • Sl St to first stitch to finish round
  • Tie a knot and finish off

Finish:

Create a loop for hanging your ornament by attaching a 6” piece of yarn to an appropriate spot on your wreath.  Then, tie a knot in your yarn and cut the yarn, leaving a tail. 

Use your darning needle to weave the beginning tail and the ending tail into the project. 

Cut a length of red yarn and weave through the Ch-2 holes and tie in a bow at the bottom.  Make as many snowflakes as you like.

Christmas Doily

Materials:

  • Approximately 3oz. of yarn in the color you desire (red with white fleck is desired) with small amount of white yarn for accent rounds
  • Suggested yarn is medium weight acrylic such as Bernat Worsted
  • Crochet hook size 5.50mm (I/9)
  • Darning needle for weaving in ends of yarn when your project is completed
  • Round pillow form or stuffing for inside of pillow

Gauge:

  • Stitch gauge: 15 SC = 4 inches
  • Row gauge: not applicable

Instructions:

Ch 4, Sl St to form a circle

Round 1 (red):

  • Ch 3
  • 13 DC in circle
  • Sl St last DC to first DC

Round 2 (red):

  • Ch 3
  • DC in same stitch
  • 2 DC in each stitch around
  • Sl St last DC to first DC

Round 3 and 4 (red):

  • Ch 3
  • DC in same stitch
  • DC in next 2 stitches, then 2 DC in next stitch
  • Repeat for the rest of the round
  • Sl St last DC to first DC
  • Repeat for round 4

Round 5 (red):

  • Ch 3
  • DC in same stitch
  • DC in next 3 stitches, then 2 DC in next stitch
  • Repeat for the rest of the round
  • Sl St last DC to first DC

Round 6 (red):

  • Ch 3
  • DC in same stitch
  • DC in next 4 stitches, then 2 DC in next stitch
  • Repeat for the rest of the round
  • Sl St last DC to first DC

Round 7 (red):

  • Ch 3
  • DC in same stitch
  • DC in next 5 stitches, then 2 DC in next stitch
  • Repeat for the rest of the round
