Ava
It’s been a long week. Thankfully, after today, it will be peaceful until, of course, I start getting baby stuff. I want to wait, though. Jenny and my mom have shown me a few things they think are super cute, but I keep telling them no. I want to wait to see what we’re having first. I don’t want gender-neutral things. People say they are for both sexes, but really, they are for boys. Girls just get away with wearing them.
Cameron isn’t telling me where he’s taking me for our do-over honeymoon, and it bugs me. Me and surprises don’t get along. I like to know everything.
A knock comes to the door, and my mom pops her head in and smiles. Behind her is Jennica, who is trying to push past her to come in. “Would you move it? I need to see,” Jennica snaps at my mom.
I laugh. Those two are awesome together. They’ve become good friends recently, when before, we only just got together for holidays. They never seemed very chummy before either, while now, it’s as if I’m being double-teamed by the mom brigade.
“Oh, you are so beautiful, baby girl!” Mom gushes.
“Thanks, Mom. And thanks, Jenny, for helping,” I tell them both, tears in my eyes.
I thought my first wedding to Cameron was the best I would ever have, but this time around, I know it’s the real deal, for both of us. Although, I did think that the first time, too, but this is just different.
I chose a simple white gown that is only tight up top, so my boobs are pushed up high and squeezed together. The rest of the dress is flowy, so it hides my baby bump. I’m not showing much, but enough to make me look like I’m starting to get a gut. I asked my doctor why I was showing so early, and he said it was because I’m so small to begin with. Sometimes, it just happens. The dress is simple, though, nothing over the top about it, but I love it.
We only invited close friends and family. Kristi declined to come because Alana was here. I guess the beans were spilled about everything, and Kristi isn’t even talking to me now, since I knew. I tried getting Alana to not come, since I’m mad at her, too, like I told her I would be, but she is here with her brother.
I hate that my best friend is hurting, and the fact that it was revealed, just when she found out she was pregnant. I want to be there for her, to help her, but she won’t let me. She even changed her number.
I push that aside, since today is meant to be a happy day, and tell the moms I’m ready.
Dad comes up to me just inside the back doors and smiles at me. “A father’s biggest accomplishment is to walk his daughter down the aisle, but I’m telling you, if I have to do this again, I’ll kill him.”
I bust out laughing. “Oh, Dad, I love you.”
“I love you too, baby girl.”
We walk out into the yard, and I see my husband, my best friend, and the love of my life, waiting for me at the end of the aisle.
Time to start over, new, to be a better us. A Family.
Cameron
We’re sitting around the yard after I’ve just remarried Ava, for real this time, and everything just seems right. She has all of me, and I have all of her. I’ll never fuck up again, or do anything to make it so we’re not okay.
There was a commotion earlier, but security handled it. I guess Becky tried to barge in when she heard about the vow renewal. Thankfully, nothing was delayed, and nothing went wrong.
I have Ava. All is well.
I lean over to Ava and watch her before saying anything. “Ready to go?” I ask her. I booked our honeymoon three days ago. It, of course, cost double what it would have, but thankfully, I have the money to do such things.
Hawaii is where I’m taking us. It’s a place Ava has talked about before that she has always wanted to see, and tonight, I’m making her dream come true. Of course, her real dream was to go to Disney World, but she can’t get on rides while she’s pregnant. I’m saving that one for later, when our child is old enough to go with us.
“Yes,” she says, sounding tired.
“You can sleep on the plane, babe,” I tell her, helping her stand up from our blanket on the lawn.
We say goodbye to everyone and head on out.
This is us, our new start. Forever.
“I love you, Ava,” I tell her.
“I love you, too, Cameron,” she tells me back.
Cameron
“I’m going to kill you!” Ava screams, holding my hand so damn tight I fear I’ll lose it.
“Ava, calm down. You’ll stress out the baby,” I say, trying to calm her down.
“I will never have children again. You fucking prick! I can’t believe you did this to me!” she screams again.
I don’t blame her, not really. She’s been in labor for thirty-one hours—four days past her due date. The doctors say if she doesn’t have this baby within the next two hours, they’ll have to do a C-section, as her water has broken and nothing is happening except her pain has been increasing with every contraction.
Over the last few months, not much changed. Ava and I work together amazingly. She finished another book and has now said she’s taking some time off for the new baby. The funny news we got was that Mr. Veldhuizen went bankrupt. It’s the reason he was fighting so hard to push Becky and me into a marriage. Becky is now living in a rundown apartment somewhere in downtown Red Deer, which her hockey player baby daddy is paying for. We haven’t heard from either of them since they left our house the day they came over. Well, we briefly heard from Becky when she tried to crash our wedding, but haven’t heard anything since then.
I turn to Ava. Fuck, I hate that she’s in pain. “You really should get some pain medication,” I try pleading with her, yet again. So far, she hasn’t budged.
“They said I can’t. I have to be more dilated first.”
Just then, the doctor comes in and smiles at us. “Let’s take a look, shall we?”
She goes between Ava’s legs and looks up quickly. “Nurse!” she shouts.
“What? What is it?” both Ava and I ask at the same time.
“You are fully dilated and effaced. This baby is coming now,” she says more calmly. “Next contraction, Ava, you need to push down.”
I’m with Ava the entire time. She’s pushing and sweating up a storm. She’s in so much damn pain; I wish I could take it all from her.
About six pushes later, a cry breaks out in the room, and our daughter is born. I was wrong about her being a boy. Maybe next time. The nurses clean her all up and passes her over to Ava. “She’s so ugly,” Ava says, staring at her.
I burst out laughing.
“I’m sorry. I know that’s so horrible to say, but newborns are not cute,” she says, wrinkling her nose.
“I think she’s perfect,” I say, staring down at my pink daughter. “Did we decide on a name yet?”
“Ruby Lynn,” Ava tells me firmly.
I kiss Ava’s forehead, and she looks up at me. “I love you, Ava,” I tell her.
Tears shine in her eyes. “I love you, too, Cameron.”
Took us too long to get to this point, but we now have forever. I wonder how long I should wait before I ask her for another child.
The End
I will be telling Kristi, Bryce, and Alana’s story eventually.
Trixie, the friend mentioned in a past scene, will be having a story as well.
All three of those stories will be told in the same novella series.
Also, Lana, Cameron’s PA, well, I can’t tell you what book she’s going to be in, because it will ruin someone else’s story…
I have a huge lineup already, so it will be a while before I get around to them.
Then I’ll be tinkering around with Kellie and Jaxon’s story – This Crazy Thing Called Love. Trevor and Tori’s story – Hidden Away, Angels Warriors MC novel, and of course Tangled Up In You – Melissa and Dray’s story. I can’t say for sure which order those releases will happen as they are all speaking to me right now (yes I have writer’s adhd lol) and are all even in word count right now, … but they ARE comin
