44. The tomb of Sir David Owen at Easeborne in West Sussex. Henry VII’s generosity to the illegitimate son of Owen Tudor demonstrates his affection for his father’s family and he was proud of his Tudor blood.

 

45. William Warham, Archbishop of Canterbury was appointed by Henry VII and was known to Margaret personally.

 

46. & 47. Christ’s College, Cambridge. Margaret initially intended to patronise both Oxford and Cambridge Universities, but she was persuaded by her chaplain, John Fisher, to focus her energies on Cambridge.

 

48. & 49. St John’s College, Cambridge. Margaret did not live to see St John’s College and it was left to her friend, John Fisher, to oversee the foundation.

 

50. & 51. Henry VIII at Trinity College, Cambridge and King’s College, Cambridge. Margaret’s grandson followed her interest in education through his patronage of the University of Cambridge.

 

52. Henry VIII in later life. Margaret selected her grandson’s first councilors but died before she could have much influence over his rule. Margaret’s grandson resembled his Yorkist mother’s family rather than his Beaufort or Tudor paternal family and he was proud of being the grandson of Edward IV.

54. Great Tournament Roll of Westminster. Margaret’s grandson, Henry VIII, was only seventeen when he became king and Margaret took control of affairs, appointing the new king’s council for him.

 

55. Catherine of Aragon. Margaret attended the marriage of Catherine of Aragon to Prince Arthur and she later witnessed the princess marry Arthur’s younger brother, Henry VIII.
