31. Henry VI depicted as a saint. Margaret later claimed that the Lancastrian king had prophesied that her son would rule England and he was widely regarded as a saint.

 

32, 33, & 34. Pembroke Castle. Margaret took refuge in the castle following the death of her husband, Edmund Tudor, and it was there that she bore her only child. The interior images show life as it would have been in the castle during Margaret’s residence there.

 

35. Henry VII and Henry VIII portrayed together in an attempt to show the might of the Tudor dynasty. Henry VII, Margaret’s son was the focus of all her ambition and she referred to him as her ‘worldly joy’.

 

36. Elizabeth of York. Margaret entirely overshadowed her daughter-in-law and she took to signing her letters as ‘Margaret R’ to emphasise her queenly role.

 

 

 

39. Richard III stripped Margaret of all her possessions and placed her in her husband’s custody as a punishment for her involvement in Buckingham’s plot.

 

40. Margaret of York, duchess of Burgundy. The sister of Edward IV and Richard III was determined to depose Henry VII and assisted pretenders to the throne.

 

41. & 42. Greenwich Palace was a favourite residence of Henry VII and Margaret was a regular visitor there.

 

43. Richmond Palace gatehouse. Little survives of Henry VII’s finest palace today.
