H
ere are nine questions you can ask as you study any passage of Scripture. They can be of great benefit to help you glean relevant applications for the portion of the Bible you are studying.

Is there an example for me to follow?

Is there a sin to avoid?

Is there a promise to claim?

Is there a prayer to repeat?

Is there a command to obey?

Is there a condition to meet?

Is there a verse to memorize?

Is there an error to mark?

Is there a challenge to face?

If you need help remembering the specifics for any of these questions, review chapter 44 of
Living By the Book.

TODAY’S PASSAGE:

Ezekiel 33:1–10

TIME COMMITMENT:

45 minutes

“Application is the most neglected yet the most needed stage in the process. Too much Bible study begins and ends in the wrong place: It begins with Interpretation, and it also ends there. But we’ve learned that you don’t start with the question, What does this mean? but rather, What does this say? Furthermore, you don’t end the process by asking, What does this mean? but rather, How does this work? Again, not does it work—but how?” (pp. 289–90).

A
t first reading, Ezekiel 33:1–10 might seem like little more than God’s instructions to one of His prophets—nothing much for someone in the twenty-first century. But remember your process of
knowing
Scripture,
relating
to it,
meditating
on it, and
practicing
it. As you do, bring to your reading the nine questions on the previous page (which we’ve reprinted below). You should be able to uncover a number of applications that make sense in your life today.
