Kailani

I was never sleeping over this nigga’s house again if this was how I was going to wake up, with beating on the door and getting kicked out of the bed. Literally. When I looked out of the window and saw Rell, I immediately answered.

“What’s up, Rell?” I asked as he walked in.

“Shit. Where’s Bishop?”

“In the bed.”

“Get him. We got a problem.”

“What’s wrong?”

“Somebody set the lounge, club, and restaurant on fire.”

“Oh my God!” I said before running up the stairs to get Bishop.

This was no accident. This was intentional. Who would want to stop my baby’s cash flow? That was a straight up hater move. By the time I’d made it back to his room, he was looking so comfortable and at peace I didn’t even want to tell him the bad news.

“Who was that?” he asked as I closed the door behind me.

“Rell.”

“What he want? He still down there?”

“Yeah. Somebody… somebody set your businesses on fire.”

He didn’t move. He laid there in silence.

“How many?”

“All of them.”

Still no movement.

“Anybody hurt?”

“I don’t think so.”

Sighing heavily, he turned onto his back and stared at me. Lifting his hand for me, I walked towards him and straddled him.

“I’m sorry, baby.”

“It’s cool. Ain’t shit I can’t handle. Just gotta rebuild.”

“So, you’re not mad?” I asked surprised.

“What would that solve?”

I shrugged.

“I’m not mad. I’m… I’m…” He gripped my waist tighter as he tried to express himself. “Whatever the fuck I feel, I need you to make it stop, Lani. I need you to be my piece of peace right now baby. I’m about to step out that door and deal with some major bullshit. I need my mind right before I leave and I need to know that when I come home you gone be able to get me right. Can you handle that?”

“Of course, baby.”

“What you waiting for then?”

Slowly, I removed his shirt from my body. As I raked my fingers across his chest, I stared into his eyes. His pitiful pleading eyes. Lifting myself slightly, I removed my newfound best friend from his boxers and slowly slid myself down on him.

“Mmmmm…” he moaned as he arched his back.

“Lay flat,” I commanded pushing him back down.

“You gone make me cum already,” he whined.

“This what you need, right?” I asked.

“Yes…”

“Then, let me take care of you.”

I wrapped his fingers around mine and pulled them over his head before riding him slow. Deep. I rode him for a few strokes and sat down on it and play with his balls or his nipples. He was moaning like crazy. I couldn’t help but wonder if Rell heard him, but if he didn’t care, I didn’t either. Pleasing him was turning me on so much I had his thighs soaking wet.

“Shit Kailani…” he groaned before trying to grip my waist and flip me over.

“No, Bishop. Take this pussy,” I said, flipping him back over.

He stared in my eyes as I rode him just as slow, but now I was sitting straight up on him. When I felt his knees resting on my back, I pushed them back down. I knew he was about to come and was trying to fight it.

“Tell me it’s mine,” I commanded, feeling my own orgasm building.

“It’s yours, baby… all yours…” he moaned before turning his face to the side. “I’m about to cum, baby,” he warned before moaning again.

Quickly, I lifted myself and took him into my mouth. He must have been surprised by my action because his eyes immediately opened and he looked down at me as I sucked him until he came.

“Fuck, Lani.” He grunted something inaudible as I continued to suck.

There was something sexy about a man not being afraid to show his pleasure, a man who wasn’t afraid to moan. To let me know, I felt just as good to him as he felt to me and Bishop was giving me life with his vulnerability right now. When I finally got up, he pulled a pillow over his face before shooting me a look of disbelief.

“Damn, baby, I didn’t know you were a freak like that,” he said.

I laughed. “Only for you.”

“Good. Better be only for me.”

I ignored his comment as I tried to stand on wobbly legs to get something to clean us both off with.

Layyah

I didn’t know how I’d managed to fuck around on Rell. As possessive as that nigga was, he barely let me out of his sight, but every time he did, I was laid up with Courtney. He’d spent the night with me, but he left before I could even wake up to say goodbye. When he came back, he reeked of gasoline and fire. I knew his crazy ass was up to something, but I didn’t want to get involved.

“Unh unh, nigga. Go and take a shower before you lay on my sheets,” I said with my eyes closed.

“Only if you join me.”

Without giving me a chance to reply, he was lifting me out of the bed and carrying me to my shower.

“Where you been?” I asked as I undressed him.

“Taking care of some business.”

“What type of business?”

He looked at me skeptically. “Just business, Layyah, damn.”

“Fine,” I replied, stepping into the shower.

The quicker we got this over with, the quicker he’d be out of my home and out of my hair. Yes. I felt bad about messing around with my best friend’s ex, but the connection that Courtney and I had, I couldn’t explain. It was like… with him… I could be myself. I could be the real me. I didn’t have to hide who I was. He accepted me and all of my flaws. And I once had that same type of power with him but since he’d gotten out he was very distant and he didn’t like to communicate. Not that I cared. I mean I cared because it wasn’t him, but I didn’t care enough about him to really care. As far as I was concerned, what we had was just a release and escape from our realities.

I knew eventually if we didn’t stop we’d get caught and no sex was worth losing Kai over, but I just couldn’t stop myself. Courtney was my bad habit and I was addicted. Rell gave me everything I wanted and needed and my crazy ass was still messing around on him. I didn’t deserve him and I’d flip if he ever cheated on me. I have to get my shit together soon.

Bishop

I stood in front of my lounge and stared at the remains. By the time the fire department was called, it was too late to save it. I could tell that the damage was going to be extensive. I was going to have to start over from the ground up, literally. That wasn’t the problem. A nigga didn’t mind reopening my spots especially since this way I could be hands-on with every detail. What was pissing me off was the fact that somebody would be stupid enough to think that they could get away with torching my shit. Now, I ain’t gone front and act like I was the baddest nigga in the world. I wasn’t stupid. There was always somebody bigger, badder and smarter than me, but what set me apart was that I’d spent most of my life feeling unloved and unwanted. I lacked empathy. I lacked compassion. Only a select few that I let inside my heart and circle would receive that and to be completely honest, the two people there were Kai and Rell.

Anybody else could get it. Any time. Anywhere. For any reason. I didn’t give a fuck. That’s what makes me deadly. I didn't give a fuck about anybody’s life. Their family. Their seeds, none of it. I would kill them all in front of their family blow their head off and make their family’s ass live, knowing I did the shit.

So for somebody to cross me like this… they must have a death wish. They must not have valued their lives. The only nigga I could think of who would want to try me was… Courtney. I didn’t know how long I’d been standing there watching the ashes rise, but Rell had come back from checking out the other two spots and returned. Now, he was standing at my side.

“Who you think did it?” he asked.

“Can’t think of nobody but Courtney.”

“Kai’s ex?”

I nodded. “Yeah. That’s the only nigga I could think of that would have beef right now. I ain’t in the streets like I used to be so it ain’t like a nigga would want to come at me because of that. It’s got to be his ass.”

“What’s up with y’all anyway?”

“We good. For now. Ion know how she gone feel once I kill this nigga.”

“She’ll be aight. If you that worried about it, though, I’ll dead the situation. You know Ion mind killing a nigga for you.”

I nodded again. I knew he was telling the truth. If there was one thing that we had for each other after all we’d gone through it was loyalty. There was nothing we wouldn’t do for each other.

“Aight, I’ll let you know. I’ma head back to the crib and check on her.”

“Aight, let me know.”

We hugged it out before I left.

Kailani

I was surprised to see Bishop back home before the sun went down. I wanted to do something to take my baby’s mind off of what had just happened so I had Rell to call me before Bishop left to come back home. I’d made sure I cleaned his home. It wasn’t dirty, but I gave it that woman’s touch. While I cleaned, I had dinner going. I prepared smothered steak and onions and mashed red potatoes, garden salad and double fudge brownies for dessert. Since I came home with him the night before, I ended up having to take one of his cars to go grocery shopping. I also stopped by my house to grab something to wear. I was now dressed in boyfriend jeans, one of his white t-shirts and a pair of silver and white KD’s.

As he was unlocking his door, I was lighting the last of my candles. I also had some of my favorite incense’s burning – lavender and lemongrass. I heard him sighing before I saw him and when I did see him he looked so drained. Smiling lightly, I watched as his face and demeanor immediately changed at the sight of me and what I’d done for him. Saying nothing, I walked over to his vinyl player, which he didn’t know that I was taking home for myself and started playing Otis Redding. He smiled as he walked towards me.

“You okay, baby?” I asked when he stood in front of me.

Instead of answering me, he pulled me into him by the shirt I was wearing and kissed me deeply.

“I love you, Kailani.” he mumbled into my lips.

“I love you too, baby.”

“Thanks for doing this for me,” he said, looking at the table and the food I’d prepared.

“No problem. Just wanted to do something special for you.”

“Why?”

Confused by his question, it took me a while to answer. “Because… you… deserve it?”

It sounded more like a question than a statement I was sure. He’d messed up my mental.

“No, I don’t, Lani. I got something to tell you. Come sit down.”

Bishop grabbed my hand and led me to the table. After sitting down, he sat me on his lap and looked into my eyes.

“What’s wrong, Bishop? You creeping me out.”

“I know who set my shit on fire and when I find him… I’m going to kill him.”

“Who?”

“Courtney.”

I must have tensed up unknowingly because I felt his grip tighten around my waist.

“How do you know it was him?” I asked, trying not to show any emotion on my face.

“Who else would it be, Kailani?” he asked defensively.

“I’m not saying it wasn’t, babe. I’m just saying how do you know for sure?”

Inhaling deeply, he looked down at the floor before returning his gaze to me.

“I just got a feeling, but I’ll have proof before I handle the situation. I just…wanted you to know. I know that was your first love and I can understand if you don’t want to have anything to do with me when all of this is over.”

I had to take a moment to think about that. I mean just because I didn’t want to be with Courtney didn’t mean I wanted him dead, especially at the hands of Bishop. However, my loyalty was with Bishop. He was my nigga and I had to ride with him. I knew now was not the time to make him question that, so I said what I knew he needed to hear.

“Nothing you do will ever change the way I feel about you. I will always love you, Bishop, and whatever you decide to do… if he really did it…” Blinking my eyes quickly, I looked away from him, hoping he wouldn’t see the tears forming in my eyes. “I’m not going to leave you.”

“I don’t need you resenting me, Lani,” he said softly, grabbing my chin and turning me to face him.

Smiling with one side of my mouth, I covered his hand with mine and brought it to my lips to kiss it. “I won’t, Bishop.”

“You promise?”

“I promise.”

“I love you, too. Now, bring me something to drink with my food.”

Shaking my head, I stood and went to the kitchen to retrieve the bottle of Pinot Noir I had chilling in the freezer, hoping I wouldn’t break my promise to him. His truth about killing Courtney broke my heart.

Bishop

I’d convinced Kai to spend a few weeks at my crib. I needed her close until I got my hands on Courtney. I didn’t need him trying to use her to get to me. We were at her crib so she could pack a few bags and take care of whatever bills and business she had to take care of before leaving. I’d been in the house with her the whole time until Rell called and I stepped out to answer. I was supposed to meet up with him an hour earlier, but I didn’t expect Kai’s ass to take so long to pack. When I left out, she had five fucking suitcases laid out. I told her ass a few weeks. She was packing like a nigga said a few months. I should have expected this, though.

While I was on the phone with Rell, he was telling me about him and Lay. How she had been acting funny lately. His ass was just as paranoid and crazy as I was, so I told him I’d ask Kai what was up before he spazzed on Lay’s ass. Before I could hang up the phone, I heard Kai raising her voice yelling at somebody. Ending the call immediately, I ran into her crib only to find Courtney running out of the back door. I let off a few rounds and managed to hit him once in the leg looked like. When I was sure that he was out of dodge, I went back into the house to check on a frazzled Kai.
