Read In The Spur of Heath (The Spur Series Book 1) Online

I opened my bedroom door and picked up the rest of my clothes that we left scattered in the corridor. I couldn’t wait to leave Dillcaster and head back to Trinidad.
Party! Party! Party!
The weekend before Spring Break had finally arrived, and going to school the past week was hell. I saw Jake, he acted as if nothing happened – not surprised – and so did I. I decided not to tell Heath what had happened. I wasn’t about to let Jake destroy the one good thing left of my life.
And the party begins… It was Thursday – the day of Jessica and Mimi’s
‘Before Spring Break Pool Party’
in West End Park. School was officially out and I decided to go shopping to find something cute to wear. Heath was back with his dad at Andrews Innovations, his father’s company in San Francisco, to attend a meeting. They were finalizing the decisions over the Creative Director debacle, and he assured me that he would be back in time for the party, so I wanted something to do to kill time.
I parked my BMW in the parking lot at Kings Mall. Slipped on my leather jacket and fixed the lace of my combat boots, smoothing my flat ironed hair down into a middle path, put on my shades and hopped out of the car with my bag in tow. I locked the doors and walked towards the elevator and got in. When the elevator dinged at the second floor, I got out and stepped into what seemed like another world. Easter decorations placed neatly in every possible turn. Giant Easter Eggs were a short distance away from me. Foreigners, like myself, were taking pictures in front of them.
I walked up to the DQ shop and ordered a smoothie. I might as well slurp on something while I shop all by my lonesome. After I got my smoothie, I window shopped through a couple of stores until it was all done. I then went into Che Bonet, a really chic store that I frequented, when I spotted the perfect fit; a black cropped top, mint green high-waist shorts and matching cardigan that would go ever so well with one of my beanies and combat boots – sexy and cute –
yes!
After I bought my outfit, I walked into Trinkets ‘N’ Tings to get a few matching accessories; huge hoops – my specialty, a few black and mint green bracelets and a handbag. I was definitely all set.
I wasn’t planning to go into the pool at the party but I’d still carry my bathing suit just in case and it was the same colour as my outfit. I was excited for the first time ever, to go to a college party.
As I was about to leave the store, I bumped into a guy and my handbag fell out of my hand, spilling its contents onto the floor. “Oh sorry.” We chorused upon impact, both darting down to pick up the stuff that fell out. And as he handed me my invitation from Mimi and Jessica, I looked up to thank him, straight into his grey eyes.
Wow! He was gorgeous
. “Thank you.” I stuttered and he flashed a big white smile at me. “You look familiar.” I paused. He looked down at the invite. “Oh great, you’d be at that party, and so will I.” He winked at me.
“Have we met before?” I questioned.
“Yes, I think I’ve seen you before. I definitely have. Driving a red Camaro, right?”
“Oh yeah, that was my friend’s car. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait! You’re the hot guy that I see crossing the road in Charleston all the time.” I began to laugh.
“You remember me? And you think I’m hot?” He asked in disbelief. “You always seem to ignore me.”
“That’s the trick.” I joked. “I’m Reese.” I stuck out my hand.
“Kai.” He shook with anticipation. He was in an army green vest, camo shorts and flip flops. His arms looked really good, too. “I love your accent. Where are you from?”
“Trinidad.”
“Whoa, nice. Well, I hope I see you at the party later.” He smiled, his dimples as deep as mine.
“You too.” I bit on my bottom lip in a bit of a daze as he walked away.
Reese! Stop being such a whore! You already have two men on your plate!
I snapped out of my daze and walked to Haagen-Dazs. As usual, I ordered berries and cream and sat on the deck outside.
After my day out, I went back home to get ready. The usual; shave, bathe, brush teeth, do my hair, get dressed, apply make-up. And voila, I looked hella cute, too. And then came the bomber, Heath couldn’t make it. I slumped onto my sofa in disappointment.
You mean to tell me I got myself all cute for nothing? Ugh! Whatever. I’m still going.
I pulled up in front of Mimi’s massive house in West End Park. Her family was one of the richest in the neighbourhood and she still was pretty humble, apart from her annoying gloats over Jake.
I waited for the gates to open up, then drove up the long driveway, and parked behind one of the many cars along the side. I pulled down the sun visor and looked at my mirror to fix my gloss and make sure that my hair was good. I decided to take off my beanie and I stuffed my cardigan in my bag. I jumped out the car, bag in hand, locked it and walked to the entrance of the party area. I flashed my invite to the security and he let me through.

was blasting as I entered the backyard where a swarm of college kids were getting buzzed – neon lights and glow sticks swirling around – and splashing into the pool.
Wow!
This was the ultimate spring break party. Others were either in the Jacuzzi, or seated around the pool with only their feet in the water or lounging on the chairs on the lawn or at the bar. There were several tables with lots of appetizers laid out. Mimi ran up to me when she spotted me. “Reese.” She called out. “I am so glad you could make it.” She pepped and hugged me. “Here.” She handed me a cup.
“What’s this?” I asked.
“Coconut Ciroc and Pineapple juice.”
“My favourite, thanks.”
“No problem.” She winked and walked off. When I spun around, I bumped into a guy, spilling my drink on him. “Oh my god. I’m sorry.” I apologised.
What the hell, am I on a roll today, or what?
“We need to stop meeting like this, Trini.” I looked up at him and began to laugh.
“Kai, right?” I smiled.
“Hey, you remember me.”
“Of course I do.”
“We need to stop meeting like this.” He joked.
“I know right. You had me there for a moment, you sounded like someone I knew. He used to call me Trini all the time.”
“Ex?”
“Pretty much.” I sighed.
“Sorry, sounds like a douche.”
“But I didn’t even say anything about him.” I chuckled.
“He is no longer with you, sounds like a douche to me.” He smiled.
“True.” I blushed and gulped down my drink.

began playing. “Oh, I love this song.” I began bobbing my head.
“You wanna dance?” He asked in anticipation and I hesitated. “C’mon it’s just a dance, Reese.”
I rolled my eyes. “Fine.” I put my hand in his and let him lead the way. We began to dance and drink. We walked up to the bar and got more shots, taking shot after shot.

began to play and I was beginning to feel tipsy. We decided to go into the pool. I changed into my bathing suit, Kai took off his shorts and vest and we both dived into the pool. I was having so much fun. Everyone around us were dancing around, flashing their glow sticks, or thrashing their hands in the air.
As the evening grew darker, the strobe lights came on as well as lights coloured lights around the pool.

began playing as we took lots of IG pics and selfies.
Happy Spring Break!
“Reese.” Kai called out to me, he was at the other end of the pool, a giant red cup in his hand. The water was calm around me and the lights glistened like a disco on the water. It felt magical, and the high that I felt – made it even better.
“Cannon ball!” I heard a ridiculously high pitched voice screech and before I knew it, a boy jumped over my head and into the water, creating a huge splash that rippled straight into my face. I began to laugh. I was completely soaked. My efforts of keeping my hair dry have failed me. “Reese.” I heard Kai call again. And as I tried to swim over to him, a swarm of other boys began cannon balling into the pool, creating an insane ruction of splashy water.
I looked around, the surroundings registering in my mind – Laine, Jessica and Mimi, all clad in polka dot bikinis, were at one side of the pool, soaking their ankles and drinking out of coconut cups, giggling and bobbing their heads to the music. Couples making out in the pool. Boys thrashing the pool noodles at each other. Others dancing on the lawn or at the bar getting as buzzed as I felt.
“Reese.” Kai called out to me again and I smiled at him. I then dunked my head underwater and lurched forward, swimming towards him. “Hey.” I popped out of the water in front of him. We both began to giggle. He was so darn cute!
“Come here.” He pulled me into him.
“What’s that?” I asked as he took a sip from his red cup.
“Hennessey.” He replied and before I could say more, his mouth was on mine and I couldn’t even resist, I felt the slight burn and metallic taste as the liquid seeped into my mouth. I pulled away from him instantaneously, as my senses came back to me. “Whoa… No, Kai.” I resisted.
“You don’t want to?” He asked and I shook my head.
“I’m not available.” I scowled.
“Alright, it’s cool. I’m sorry.” He apologised, his face turning red with embarrassment.
“It’s okay. Let’s just have fun, cool?”
“Cool.” He slugged down the remainder of his Hennessey. The waiters then brought more shots for us and we continued to party, just as I had planned until everything went
BLANK
!
I woke up on my bed, wearing nothing at all, completely nude. My head was banging and I could barely open my eyes. “Ugh! My head.” I could hear a slight ringing in my ears as I tried to find my phone. My clothes, my bag, everything was scattered on the floor. “God, what happened last night?” I whispered to myself as I reached for my phone that was under the bed.
It was 5:57a.m. according to the screen. I then heard someone in the shower.
No!
I was naked, extremely naked, did that mean
Kai
was with me? Did I fuck Kai? Did I bring him back to me and Heath’s place, no less?
Oh God, no!
How could I go from celibate for more than a year to fucking three men in less than a week
? No, no, no! Please, God, no!
I heard the shower come off and I laid back down on the bed and closed my eyes, pretending to still be asleep. He came out and began rummaging through my things. He then took the light off and I peeped with one eye open. It didn’t look like Kai.
What the hell?
“Heath?”
“Oh good, Pieces, you’re awake.” He answered in his all familiar voice. I got up from my bed and turned on my lamp. He was naked too. “Wha… uh?” He grinned at the confusion on my face. “You don’t remember a thing, do you?”
“Not at all. I was liming with some dude named Kai and then bam, nothing!”
“You called me as I was in a cab on my way to the party. I was planning to surprise you. I know you were drunk, didn’t realise you were that drunk. You didn’t even want to go home. I had to drag you out the party.” He laughed.
“That’s not funny, Heath. Was I bad?”
“You were a lot of things, but na mate, you were more fun than bad.” He winked. “You tried to coax me into having sex in the pool. You didn’t care that there were people around.” My eyes grew wide. “But no worries, love, no one saw you.” He assured me.
“I. Am. Never. Ever. Ever. Drinking again!” I sank back into my bed.
Ping!
My phone chimed. Over one hundred and more notifications from both Facebook and Instagram.
Holy shit!
I looked on IG, pics of Kai and me, Heath and me, and everyone else just living it up. Okay, no foul photos, I am in the clear. Same on Facebook. But damn that party was truly Spring Break outrageous. I had fun! Well, at least what I remember, anyway.
“Reese?” Heath called out.
“Huh?” I turned to him.
“Don’t forget our flight is for nine tonight.”
“Yeah I know, I actually packed all our things yesterday. How was the meeting with your dad?”
“You can’t remember celebrating it last night, huh?”
“Celebrating what?”
“I’m his new Creative Director – full scope.”
“OMG! That’s amazing!” I screamed, jumping in excitement and hugged him.
“I can continue working from home, unless I need to meet with clients… etcetera. But this is what I have always wanted! And Pieces, guess what…”
“What?” I raised my brows suspiciously at him.
“I got you a writing gig.”
“You did?” I asked elatedly.
“Yeah. I know you enjoy it, so why not. And you can work from home as well. That to me is the best part.”
“Wow, this is awesome.” I smiled. “Thank you, Heath, for everything. You’re amazing. Now only if you had the secret to curing hangovers.” I held on to my aching head and he laughed.
“Well you know, Andrews helps with the upset feeling.” He joked.
“Ha, true.” I chuckled.
“I’ll go get you one.”
“Thank you.” I yelled out behind him when he left the bedroom.
Around six that evening, we got ready and left home for LAX in Los Angeles in a hired cab. I couldn’t believe I was about to fly back home after all this time. I was so excited because I hadn’t seen my cousin since I left, she was the only person in my family that I was close to. My mother and I didn’t have the best relationship and the others were too busy with their own lives.
