“Whoa.” He paused, his eyes fell onto something to the back of me and I turned around to see what it was. “Isn’t that a gorgeous piece of equipment. My heart.” He joked, his eyes still on the monster of a camera stationed on top of a Mitchell Geared tripod head. It really was impressive.

Heath and I had quite a few scenes to complete which took up the entire Saturday. We shot scene after scene – over and over, perfecting each one. And then came the moment, finally, the kiss scene.

I stared at him, my face impassive, smoking a cigarette. “Come on, Chase, you can’t be serious?” I paused for a moment, my body leaning against a car that was set in front of a green screen.

“Genesis, please?” Heath held onto my hand and I puffed smoke into his face and he coughed. “You need to stop.”

“I would if I could, Breton, but I can’t, it’s who I am.” I palmed his face, cigarette in hand. “Why are you even interested in me? You have the world of women at your fingertips.”

“None of them are you!” His eyes now locked to mine. I licked my lips and his quivered nervously. Our faces began inching closer towards each other.

“Cut!” Jake called out and Heath and I sighed, then turned to him, exasperation evident on our faces.

“What’s wrong now, Mr. Cavanaugh?” I growled.

“The scene was really good.” He replied.

“But?” Heath raised a brow.

“Something was just…missing, just take a break.” He gave me a once over, turned on his heel and left the set.

“He’s driving me nuts with this shit.” I whispered to Heath as we helped ourselves to the food that was available to the cast in between takes. “If he keeps this up, I’d have lung cancer by the end of the day!”

“I believe he doesn’t want us to kiss.” Heath suggested impassively and took a bite into an apple. I looked up at him, considering what he just said.

Finally, we were back to the scene. My palm against Heath’s face, once again, cigarette in hand. “Why are you even interested in me? You have the world of women at your fingertips.”

“None of them are you!” His eyes peering into mine and our heads moving closer together, so close I could feel his warm breath against my face. And in a slow, timely motion our lips finally touched and it was electrifying. His tongue unravelling in my mouth and the minty taste of his tongue was satisfying. Our kiss got more intense, my hands now wrapped around his neck and his on my rear, gripping as we devoured each other’s mouths, slowly easing ourselves onto the car. It lasted for a moment until Jake called cut and even then we continued for a few seconds beyond his command. We then slowly pulled away, our eyes still locked and that’s when I realised that it was more than just acting, it was real. I gulped as we stared at each other.

Jake stood there, motionless, his face looking mortified as he stared at us. “Reese.” He pulled me away from Heath.

“What’s wrong?” I asked him.

“Didn’t you hear me say cut?” He looked at me with his usual impassive stare; couldn’t tell what he was thinking. But it sounded as though he was jealous.

“Does it matter, that scene was fantastic, wasn’t it?”

“It was.” He answered coldly. “That’s a wrap. All of the scenes are officially complete. If we need to do any more takes I’d let you all know.” His eyes travelled up and down my body before he turned and walked away. Watching him leave broke my heart, I didn’t want to feel like this anymore, why couldn’t things be simpler? I then craned my neck back at Heath who was watching me. I didn’t know what to say or do, it was kind of…awkward. I just gave him a small smile and walked towards him.

“Ready to go?” I asked.

“Yeah, sure.” He stared at me with those apprehensive eyes. His stare was pensive, much like the one I was returning. I guess the kiss was on both our minds. Best friends, both newly single who have both admitted their love for one another – yet we hadn’t dealt with that elephant in the room since my heart break – it has now come back to haunt us both. That awkward silence.

Jake walked out through the heavy double doors of Cave Ink Productions Studio and into the parking lot. He passed his fingers through his dark locks, then through the sexy stubble on his chin. He swiped his car keys out of his jeans pocket and deactivated the alarm of his DB9 just as his phone rang. He pulled the phone from his back pocket. “Yes, Kin?” He answered sternly. His face clearly unimpressed. Frustration evident.

“Is that how ya talk to me?” She snickered.

“Sorry,
babe
. Rough day. What do you want?” He answered in a faux-pleasant tone.

“You coming home? Ya should be done with ya likkle movie by now. Not so?”

“I’m almost done, gonna get something to eat before I come home.”

“Ya better not be with her.” She growled.

“Her safety is more important to me than actually being with her. You have me all to yourself, Kin.” He sighed and hung up. He jumped into the driver’s seat, stuck the key in the ignition and laid his head against the steering wheel, sighing as he did. He pounded his fist against it and let out a slightly muffled scream, then palmed his face and pulled out of the parking lot.

Jake drove to Pasadena making his way towards Athens Nightclub to meet up with Joey.

He pulled into the huge parking lot, then got out, shades on his eyes, slipping on his leather jacket over his cardigan. He walked towards the door on the side of the building and entered the code. He made his way through the dark corridor towards another door, entered another code and walked up the curved metal steps.

At the top of the staircase, he pushed through the heavy metal door. Walking further down a well-lit corridor, passing the club workers scurrying around trying to prepare for opening, heading towards a frosted glass door. He pushed through and Joey stood behind his desk, talking on the office phone, dressed in one of his neatly pressed well-tailored suits. He then hung up.

“Cavanaugh, what’s up?” Joey strolled up to him.

“She’s back!” Jake scowled.

“She, who?” Joey asked gesturing him to sit on one of the red leather lounge seats with him.

“Kin.” Joey shot him a worrisome stare as he crossed his legs and lit a cigarette.

“What does she want?”

“Revenge I suppose.”

“Well, give her money, make her go away.” He replied blowing out smoke.

“She doesn’t just want half of my… everything, she wants me, too. She threatened to kill Reese if I didn’t get back with her.”

“What the fuck, you should have iced that chick a long time ago.”

“Joey, you know me, I would have killed her without a thought if she was a man, but you know how I am when it comes to women.”

“Yeah, I do. And now you’re in shit. What do you want me to do?”

“Get rid of her, man.”

“Jake, what if she told her cousins that she was coming back for you, and she goes missing, then what? They’re gonna come looking for you. That whole Jamaican gang gonna come back for your ass because you would be the first person they suspect.”

“Well, alright then, let’s make it look like an accident.”

“What’d you have in mind?” Joey raised a brow.

“I don’t even have a clue. This is killing me, I can’t be with Reese. And Reese doesn’t know and now I had to hurt her, so bad.”

“Why didn’t you tell Reese though?”

“She doesn’t know about this life. She doesn’t know what I really did, that I
killed
people, sold drugs and did illegal things to get where I am today. But Kin does though, and she has all the leverage she needs over me. She has to go!” Jake shot up from the lounge chair in anger and Joey puffed on his cigarette.

“Yeah, and she knows how you are with women, so she knows she got nothing to worry about.” Joey continued as he leaned toward the coffee table and smashed the butt of the cigarette into the ashtray.

“Exactly.” Jake tightened his jaw in anger, holding onto his forehead as he paced back and forth in front of Joey.

“You talk to Kai?”

“No, it’s been a while.” He bent his head and a small smile spread across his lips as if he remembered something. “Dude, you know I lied and told Reese he was gay.” He continued and Joey started to laugh, reclining into his seat, and his interlaced fingers behind cupping the back of his head.

“We both know Kai is a little strange but nowhere near gay.”

“I just wanted her to get off my back, she was asking questions about my childhood and family and shit.”

“I’ll call Kai and talk to him. When we organise something, I’ll have him call you.” Joey stretched his legs and got up. He and Jake did a specific hand shake and hugged each other.

“Thanks Joey, I owe you.”

“Na, man. Without you, I wouldn’t have this.” He opened his arms, referencing the club.

“Ha. Well I gotta go, crazy pants is expecting me home. Wrapped up my film today.”

“That’s good. Take care of yourself.”

“I’ll try.” Jake pursed his lips.

Chapter 7

Heath and I decided to buy a bottle of Vodka on our way home from our final shoot. When we reached back home, we turned on the stereo in the living room and sat on the sofa, drinking away our sorrows. As we swallowed shot after shot and my high increased, I felt freer, happier and a little more confident to act on impulses.

was playing and it made me want to ask Heath about the kiss. “Heath?” He turned to me. “You kissed me?”

“We kissed each other.” He smiled mischievously. “For the movie.” He winked.

“Oh please, you continued to kiss me long after Jake called cut.”

“I know.” His smile faded. “And you continued to kiss me too. He then paused just staring into my eyes and soon enough, we were in the same exact position that we were in for our final scene; his lips very close to mine as I bit on my bottom lip. “You didn’t stop me.” He whispered. His warm breath brushed against my lips.

“And what if I did stop you?” I asked with a playful smirk.

“Then I’d wait for you to say Action.” I paused for moment.

“Action.” I whispered seductively and with that, he took my mouth in his. Cupping his hands around my face as he consumed me in a sexy, sloppy kiss, easing me slowly onto the sofa. I pulled him on top of me as he sucked at my neck, our fingers now interlocked, trailing his tongue around my collar bone. I began to unbuckle his belt and that’s when reality hit!
Whoa! Heath and I are about to have sex.
It didn’t feel real, and I felt a bit weird but at the same time I wanted it. My clit was throbbing for him. And the excitement and giddiness I felt of this long anticipated moment coming into realisation was all that compelled me.

He pulled the hem of my tank top over my head and I swung it across the living room. And I did the same with his jersey. He paused for a moment, scanning my topless body. “Reese?” He called out, almost in disbelief, and I understood completely because I was feeling the same. “We’re really about to do this?” He asked.

“Do you want to?” I whispered.

“Of course.” He replied seductively. “I’ve wanted to for a long time now, and not just this, but I wanted to make love to you.” A whisper of a smile on his lips. His erection pressing hard between my legs, as he squeezed tighter on my intertwined fingers.

“Well, let’s do this.” I replied, suddenly so unsure. Jake began popping up in my head and my eyes began welling up.
No!
I refuse to allow him to take away from this moment. This moment that I longed for since I met Heath.
Light a Fire by 6
began to play on the stereo and I pulled down my pants. I was in nothing but my boyshorts and matching bra. He then got up off me and pulled down his jeans, remaining only in his boxers. I drank him all in as he stood there. He looked good naked, he was no Jake but he still looked good. The tip of his erection prodded through the top of his boxers.

“Condom?” I asked.

“Oh, right.” He took up his jeans and got out his wallet from one of the pockets. He found a condom, opened it and put it on. He hovered over me, supporting himself on the armrest of the sofa as he kissed at my mouth, neck and ear. He then placed his hand between my thighs, easing his finger in and out of me, and rubbing my clitoris, sending that shooting sensation throughout my body. I was so wet. I tried my best to blank Jake out of my mind and eventually I did.

I grabbed hold of his dick and directed him into me, easing in slowly. I desperately tried grasping hold of the reality of what was happening.
Surreal! Me and Heath
. When he was fully inside me, I let out a sigh
. Wow!
He paused, just staring at me with a faint smile across his lips, stroking my hair. “You’re so beautiful, Pieces.” He whispered and I blushed. I palmed his face and reached for his mouth. He then grabbed hold of my hand, slipped his fingers between mine and began moving slowly in and out of me. I wrapped my arms around his body tightly as he buried his head into my neck, gyrating his hips, and thrusting himself deeper and deeper, making me wince. My legs clamped around his waist, calves pressing against his firm ass, feeling its clenching every time he pushed himself further into me.

The sex was slow and intense and he would occasionally raise up and pause, just staring into my eyes and kiss me, then continue.

He nibbled on my neck, pounding harder into me, sweat slick hair flopping down his forehead. Jake was out of sight, out of mind by now. I just enjoyed each and every inch of Heath, moaning and groaning. Relishing in the release of sexual tension that built up between us for over a year. “I love you, Reesie.” He whispered, his breath tickling my ear.
This is a dream! Sex with Heath as he whispers that he loves me into my ear? This is a dream!
I couldn’t believe this was now my reality.

“I love you, too.” I breathed and ran my fingers through his wavy honey-brown locks. “I’ve always loved you.”

He then slammed into me and I began feeling him pulsing hard inside me. He came, relaxing himself into me, his forehead pressed against mine, breathing heavily. “Wow.” He hissed. He laid his head on my chest and I trailed my finger on his wet back. Our bodies sticky and warm from the love making. He looked up at me, his innocent emerald eyes dancing in the light. “I can’t believe we just did that.” He smiled.

“Neither can I, actually. But it was amazing.” I stared into thin air, my mind completely blank. It was amazing, but I just ended up feeling like I cheated on Jake, and I don’t even know why. He clearly left me to get back with his ex and here I was unable to enjoy the aftermath of Heath the way I had expected.

By Monday, Heath and I were closer than ever and finally official. We went into Tang, and sat down for breakfast. And of course, Jake was there in his usual seat. Heath ordered two sub sandwiches for us and then returned to our table, sitting beside me, and placed his arm around my shoulder. The regulars of Tang who were familiar with our platonic status were quite surprised, obviously, by their stares, I could tell.
Yes, Heath and I are an item now.  Big whoop!

Jake looked up briefly, his eyes wandering before returning to his book, but then sprung back up when Heath and I registered in his mind. His eyes wide, his mouth open, as if in shock. He gulped hard, clenching his jaw, and removed his glasses. He then packed up his things and walked up to us. “Reese? Andrews?” His eyebrows raised, horror apparent on his face, standing there awkwardly for a moment, and then left. I didn’t know what to say or do. I looked at Heath and his face was grim. I was sort of looking for approval to go after Jake, but of course there was none there so I bolted out of my seat and caught up with him as he stepped out of Tang. “Jake!” I grabbed onto his elbow.

“What Reese?” He spun around looking infuriated.

“What is wrong with you?”

“Nothing, go back to your boyfriend.” He looked down at me, clenching his jaw.

“Jake, you’re the one who left, remember. Now you all hot headed over me and Heath, what the fuck, dude!”

“It doesn’t matter Reese. It’s my fault anyway. Just enjoy your happiness with him, it’s much better than my complications.”

“No, you don’t get to choose that for me, and you don’t walk away from me. I leave you! I! Me! Not you. Yes, I am with Heath, and I have loved every minute of it. It certainly is better than your so-called ‘complications’.” I gave him a once over and then went back into Tang. He hung his head for a moment until his phone began to ring, then left.

Jake walked briskly towards the parking lot of the school as he looked at an incoming call from Joey and answered it. “Joe, what’s up?” He clenched his jaw as his eyes darted around at the other students walking past him. He strolled towards his car, trying to get privacy. He placed his briefcase atop his car trunk and scratched his head. “What’d Kai say?”

“He’s in Mexico ‘til next week. I didn’t really wanna divulge too much detail over the phone, but I told him I’d update him when he comes to Pasadena.

“Thanks man. She’s with him, now.” He bent his head, propping his hand against the roof of his car.

“Who?”

“Reese, Reese is with her best friend.” He whispered, looking over his shoulders, ensuring no one was around him as he spoke.

“Damn. Jake, I’m sorry man. Why don’t you just tell her, before this gets any worse?”

“I can’t, Joseph. You know this.”

“Alright man, I’m sorry. As soon as Kai returns, I’ll have him call you.”

“Thanks man.” Jake replied and hung up, staring off into the direction ahead of him.

I moseyed back to Heath inside of Tang. As I neared our table, he looked up at me disappointingly. “Reese?” He mouthed.

“Look, Heath. I’m sorry, just had some things I needed to get off my chest.” I looked at him pleadingly, dreading his response.

“It’s okay, just don’t do that again. Okay?”

“I won’t.” I gave him a small, reassuring smile.

“Good.” He smiled and pulled me into him, pressing his lips against mine, slowly unravelling his tongue until we were in a full blown make out session.

“Heath.” I flushed against his mouth and pulled away. I looked around, feeling embarrassed at our public display of affection. “Let’s get to Mr. Cavanaugh’s class.” I grinned and bit on my bottom lip.

“After you madam.” He teased.

During Jake’s class, he placed us into groups of four, pulling me apart from Heath and placing me with Mimi Saunders; a blonde haired, blue eyed Barbie doll, Laine Fields; a dark haired, dark eyed semi-goth chick that wore heavy eyeliner, black clothes and a lip ring, and Jessica Palmer; a red haired, green eyed bombshell with porcelain skin and a petite body. I found them to be quite irritating at times but we were supposed to come together and pitch a short film idea within a half hour.

Jake padded up to us, hands in his pants pocket, giving us a once over. “So girls, everything okay?” He smirked and winked at me when I looked up at him. I just rolled my eyes and bent my head
. Is he schizophrenic?

“Oh, everything is fine Mr. Cavanaugh.” Mimi bit on her lip with a faint smile, twirling the end of her hair.

“Nice.” He smiled with an intense seductive stare. He placed his palm on Mimi’s shoulder and gave it a gentle squeeze. “Well girls, do look forward to hearing your pitch.” He looked up at all of us, pushed his hand back into his pocket and strode off.
What the fuck is he trying to get me jealous?
As he walked off, Mimi began blushing. “Holy shit, he is so effing hot!” Her eyes brightened.

“You can say that again.” Jessica glanced back at him as he was talking to another group. “Hottest teacher ever. Could you all imagine what the sex is like?”

“A girl can only dream.” I deadpanned and shot out of my chair. I stomped up to Jake and shot him a hard stare.

“Ms. Singh?” He raised a questionable brow, stepping away from the group that he was talking to.

“Don’t do that.” I whispered angrily.

“I’m not following.”

“Flirting, with those girls… you know damn well they’re into you.”

“I assure you Ms. Singh, those were not my intentions.”

“Spare me, really. I’d like to be excused from the rest of this class.” He looked down at me, jaw clenching in anger.

“Be my guest, Reese.” He spat and walked off. I bolted out of the room and Heath looked up at me as I did. He glanced over at Jake and then ran behind me in the hallway. He grabbed onto my elbow and spun me toward him.

“What!” I shouted and calmed down when I realised it was him. “Oh, Heath.” I bent my head, pinching the bridge of my nose in frustration.

“What happened in there?”

“I wish I knew.” I replied with a sarcastic smile.

“Come here.” He pulled me into him and wrapped his arms around me as I buried my face into his chest, crying uncontrollably. “It gets easier with time.” He rubbed my back, trying his best to console me. “If he doesn’t know how great you are, then he doesn’t deserve you.”
Oh the irony of him saying basically the same thing Jake did about him.
I looked up at him and wiped away my tears. “Thank you.” I mouthed.

“Anytime, Pieces.” He kissed me on the forehead, then held me at an arm’s length. “Do you want me to take you home?”

“No, it’s okay. I’ll go back in.” He gave me a worried look and I assured him that I was alright. He then led me back into the classroom.  Jake was seated behind his desk reading from a paper and looked up at me through heavy lashes, his eyes following me as Heath and I made our way to our respective seats.

“Reese, you okay?” Mimi asked as I sat back down.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” I bent my head, reading the ideas we all had written down, trying to think of a proper direction to take, something ‘Mr. Cavanaugh’ would like.

“So, you and Heath dating now?” Laine smirked as she gnawed on a piece of chewing gum.

“Pretty much.”

“He’s cute.” Laine said coolly. “I always kinda had a thing from him.”

“Not as cute as him though.” Jessica intervened nonchalantly as she stared at Jake behind his desk reading.
