I sat still and listened with my eyes closed.

“Who are they to you?”  I asked opening my eyes and looking at him.

“You already know that I represent blood gang.” I folded my arms and looked at him like
nigga get on with it
. “LaFamilia de Mexicano or LMF is my set’s supplier. LMF is dumping bricks like the ones you stole into every major city from the west coast to here in the Midwest. And they’re trying to expand all the way to the east.”

“What the fuck does any of that have to do with anything? You sound like a got damn infomercial.” I was getting irritated. “And you can let me go now.”

“Are you going to hear me out?”

I sighed. “Yes, if you just tell me what you want from me.”

He slowly took his arms from around me. “I just want you to listen before you make your decision.”

I looked at the nigga and started to say something but closed my mouth quickly and gave him the look again.

“LMF has one person that they deal with in every city they supply. I’m that dude for Milwaukee. So of course they came to me when they tracked you here.” He winced in pain as he shifted on the couch.

“How long have you known?” My heart was beating fast and I have no idea what was keeping my ass planted on that love seat because I was scared. It felt like the walls of the hotel room were closing in.

“I knew when I came to your hotel room Phat Kat. Remember the meeting with my business associates I had to go to?”

I nodded as I tried to keep the tears away. I’d been played again and the shit hurt.

“That’s how you know I don’t have any plans to hurt you. Because, if that was the case, I had the opportunity already.” He tried to grab my hand but I snatched it away.

“Then why didn’t you tell me then? Were you planning to hit it one last time before you turned me over to yo Mexican homies?” I laughed sarcastically. “Ivan actually saved my life by trying to take yours.”

Jahlil shook his head. “At first I wasn’t sure if it was you.”

I laughed. “Yeah right nigga. How many Phat Kats are driving around the Mil in a Charger?”

“Phat Kat, you don’t get it. I didn’t want to believe it was you and then I had to figure out things in my head.”

I jumped up with my Marc Jacob bag in hand and started towards the door.

“Phat Kat, wait.”

“Wait for what? Yo west coast homies to show up?”

“I’m riding with you and for you, Phat Kat.” I grabbed the doorknob and stopped. “I’m choosing you over them.”

“So you’re going to give up a cartel connect for me?” I rolled my eyes to the top of my head. “And all of that cock suckin’ cash?”

“I have enough money for both of us to live on for a very long time. Not including my investment portfolio.”

I shook my head and closed my eyes. I wanted to snatch open the door and walk out on that nigga for life. But I couldn’t find the strength to do it.

“What about yo life nigga? I guess you’re goin to put that on the line too.”

He struggled to reach over and grab his crutches and get to his feet. He used his crutches to get over by me as fast as he could.

“Phat Kat, I mean…” He took a deep breath. “What the hell is you’re real name?”

I giggled sarcastically. “You and you’re friends would really be able to track me down then.”

“Turn around and look at me.”

I smacked my lips. “Jahlil, just let me go. It’s best we go our separate ways.” I bounced up and down like I was a little kid who was antsy and had to use the bathroom.

“Look at me.” He yelled so loud and unexpectedly I did what he said more as a reaction than anything. He was keeping himself as steady as possible on the crutches. The way that nigga was looking almost scared me. I didn’t know if I’d ever seen that level of intensity in anyone’s eye, not even Ivan.

“What is your real name?”

I closed my eyes, parted my lips, and hoped it would just roll out. But I couldn’t bring myself to say it. He hopped around until he balanced himself so he could reach out and slip his hand into mine.

“I’m willing to put it all on the chopping block for you. All I’m asking you to do is trust me.”

The tears finally came sliding down my cheeks. I shook my head. “Even if I wanted to, I don’t know if I could.”

“Let’s make this leap together. We’ll both be risking it all but we can make it. You just have to be willing to take the chance with me.”

I kept shaking my head. “I don’t think I can ever get that close to a man again. I’m too fucked up in my heart to give it to somebody else. Now please let me go. There will be other bitches for you.”

“Just trust me. Please,” Jahlil begged. I sighed. “Tell me your real name.”

I sighed again. This time when I opened my mouth it actually came out. “Michelle Walker.”

He stared at me as if I was jacking about my own got damn name. “Michelle Walker?”

“That’s what I said nigga. Did they stop making Walkers with yo ass or sumthin’?” I gave him as much attitude as I could with my hands on my hips.

He laughed and threw his hands up and almost lost his balance on the crutches. He’s lucky because I would’ve laughed my ass off. But it was all good. I put my arms around his neck and looked him in the eye.

“You really want to be my nigga don’t you?”

“That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you.”

“Will you kill for me?” I asked.

“I can’t wait for the opportunity.” Jahlil didn’t blink when he responded.

“Alright, Jahlil. I’m all in. I’m willing to do my best to put the past behind me and move on with you. But before we take off anywhere together, Ivan and Kim K. have to die.”

“I’m with you baby. Let’s ride.” Even though he winked at me, I knew he was dead serious.

Chapter 19

I parked the Charger in front of my storage unit and hopped out. I looked in both directions before I unlocked and the lifted the door. Nobody else seemed to be around along the row of storage units. But I figured I better be sure when all I had in mine was a lot of money and a lot of dope. I used my iPhone for extra light as I walked to the back corner of the garage. I stared down at the two book bags full of dope. I remembered the day I found them in the back of the Escalade, right after I robbed the Mexican cat. I stared at those two bags that day thinking they were the foundation a bitch needed to get back on her feet.

Now I was staring at them thinking how they just might make me and Jahlil tighter. I was going to let him put the bricks out on the streets. It just made sense for us to have as much cash as we could put up. Life was expensive, and especially when you’re dealing with a high end bitch like myself. This was also a chance to show the nigga that I was really all in. I didn’t bother to count the bricks in both bags. But it was obvious that I was handing over a lot of money.

I looked down at the hundred g’s in the duffel bag before leaving out of the storage unit. I threw both bags in the back seat of the Charger, slid the garage door back down and locked it, and then climbed in the driver’s side. I gave Jahlil a quick peck on the lips before I drove off. That nigga wasn’t going to know about the one hundred g’s stashed in the storage unit for now. If shit went bad between us this time I would have something to fall back on. A muthafucka would never be able to leave me stranded and broke in some cheap ass motel ever again.

“Phat Kat, slow down baby. You got two bags full of dope in the back.”

“Damn, my fault. I’m trying to get to the mall before it closes. I need a new dress for the funeral we’re going to.”

I still think you should let me call up some soldiers. Why are we fighting fair when Ivan isn’t?”

I concentrated on the road, was in deep thought, and was listening to Jahlil at the same time.

“This is between me, the punk ass nigga Ivan and that white tramp Kim K. I want to do the muthafuckin killin.”

“You told me he sent some amazon from Africa to take your head off.”

I nodded as I looked in the rearview mirror and saw the same silver Ford F-250 pickup with tinted windows that had been behind us for a while.

“The difference is Ivan just wants me dead. I don’t want his ass to die unless I’m behind the trigger.”

When I turned off Teutonia Avenue onto Burleigh Street, the silver F-250 kept straight. It was probably nothing but I wasn’t taking shit for granted. I could see St. Lucas from a few blocks up. In the obituary section of the newspaper this was the church listed for Kim K.’s mother’s funeral service. The parking lot of the church looked like a big ass death trap to me. There were too many cars parked in it. It would be too hard for us to get out of there when muthafuckas started to panic.

I parked across Thirteenth Street instead. A maroon Ford F-250 with tinted windows slowly cruised by. I watched it through the rearview mirror until it made it to the end of the block and turned off. In the streets there are no coincidences. If something seems out of place you better deal with it before you get dealt with. I slid the nine milli into my brand new black Prada clutch purse. It matched the black Prada dress and heels I bought for this occasion. Kim K. was going to die at her mother’s funeral, along side the muthafucka she spent years snaking me for. Even in death, they deserved each other.

I played my mirrors tough as I waited for the funeral service to end. I had my mind made up about both of those pickups. If either one cruised by again it was going to get lit up. Me and Jahlil chilled in silence until people started trickling out of the church. I waited until a big enough crowd developed before I got out of the Charger. The whole time I scanned the crowd for just two people. The same two people I’d been at since Vegas. The chase, the drama, and their lives were going to end on holy ground.

“You sure you don’t want me to come with you?” Jahlil asked as he placed his hand on my arm.

“I need you to get behind the wheel in case we have to smash off.” Jahlil held my arm when I tried to climb out of the Charger.

“There are a lot of witnesses.”

I smiled at him. “That’s what my wig and silencer are for.” I checked my blond wig in the mirror. Between it, the green contacts I had in, the extra long eyelashes I had glued to my real ones, and the fake mole I slapped on the side of my cheek, I looked like a completely different chick.

It was the same disguise I used in Vegas. I figured it was only fitting for them two back stabbing muthafuckas to see me like that right before I killed them. I stepped out of the Charger and marched across the street with my Prada heels striking the cement. People were standing around in the parking lot talking, reminiscing, and consoling each other. Nobody even noticed me as I slowly slithered through the crowd like a snake. My eyes were focused on the two people standing at the back entrance of the church.

Well wishers were lined up to hug and shake the hands of Ivan and Kim K. I smirked at how cute they looked matching in his black designer tailored suit and the black Prada dress she had. It was the same on I was rocking. What were the odds that enemies would be wearing the same muthafucking thing to a funeral? I found the end of the line and did my best to hide behind the couple in front of me. I gripped the nine milli with the silencer screwed on the end of the barrel inside of my clutch purse.

Their asses were going to drop without no one hearing a sound or seeing the strap. When there were only a few people left between Ivan and Kim K. and the couple in front of me, I acted as if I’d dropped something on the ground and kept my head and my eyes pointed towards the ground. While the couple in front of me were telling Kim K. how sorry they were, I looked up at Ivan. He wasn’t paying attention to me at first but it didn’t take him long to figure out who I was.

He went for his chrome .45 he had in a shoulder holster but I already had my nine milli pointed at him from inside of my Prada clutch purse. I blew him a kiss and just for that one very brief moment the look of terror in his eyes was worth everything I’d been through. But before I could squeeze the trigger, gunfire erupted from behind me.

What sounded like AK-47’s made the crowd scream as they ran and ducked for cover. I dove to the ground making sure I never took my eyes off of Ivan and Kim K. the couple that had been waiting in line in front of me got hit. One lost an arm, the other lost the lower part of their leg. That’s why in the ghetto we called them choppers. I stayed on the ground until I heard tires screeching and the drumroll of the choppers stopped. I snuck a look back in time to see both of the Ford F-250’s speeding away.

I climbed to my feet before Ivan could make it to his. People were lying on the ground dead and wounded all around us. The ones that were still alive were sobbing, whimpering, moaning and crying out for the Lord. Before Ivan was able to get his chrome .45 out of his shoulder holster, I was already standing over his ass smiling. I aimed the nine milli inside of my clutch purse and fired six shots into his chest.

A tear slid down my cheek as I watched the life leave out of the nigga’s body. A bitch wasn’t crying because I felt guilty about shooting his triflin’ ass. I guess I got a little emotional knowing that all of the frustration and stress was over. Ivan was dead and so was all of the pain he caused. I immediately looked for that bitch Kim K. I didn’t know her ass could run that fast. That big booty white bitch had kicked off her heels and was in the wind. Her long ass ponytail was swinging like a rope across her back.

The selfish bitch left the nigga she’d stole from me to die like he was nothing to her. We were like sisters and she threw it all away because she wanted what was mine. But in the end all the bitch cared about was herself. I kicked my heels off and went after her with a tight grip on the nine milli. She ran across Kinnickinnic with me on her ass squeezing off a shot or two just to let her know I was still there. By the time she tried to cut through an alley behind Dover Street I was close enough for her to hear me.

“Bitch stop!”

She looked over her shoulder and spun around with her hands out like they were bulletproof.

“Phat Kat wait.” The bitch was out of breath and desperate.

“What the fuck we waitin’ for bitch? I’ma make sure you get to go be with yo nigga.” I walked up to her with the nine milli aimed right at her lying ass mouth. “Yo wanted to be wit the nigga so bad. Right bitch?”

“Phat Kat, I know where Meka is.”

For a split second I stopped and blinked.

“I can tell you where she is, I swear.”

“Bitch you sound desperate to me.” I walked up to her until I was only a few feet away. “Get down on your knees bitch.” She did as I told her.

“Phat Kat, Meka is alive.” She swallowed hard. “And I know where she is. My life for hers. That’s how I’m playing it.”

I looked down at her in the same god damn dress I was rocking, with her long jet black hair tied up and hanging like a horse’s tail. A muthafucka would tell you that they were Jesus if they thought it would save their life. But I wanted Meka to be alive so bad I decided to play along.

“I think you’re lyin’ bitch. When did Ivan start doin kidnappings for no ransom?”

She swallowed hard. “At first he was goin to kill her when some dude Rico called. I guess he works at her shop.”

I almost dropped the nine milli.

“Called and told her what?” I asked through clenched teeth. I jammed the tip of the silencer into her forehead.

She stuttered a little bit before she got it out. “He called and put him up on yo plan to send Meka out of town.”

I got dizzy just enough that I stumbled and had to catch myself.

“Don didn’t call Ivan.”

She shook her head. “I’ll take you to where Meka is. You got Ivan. Just let me go and we both can move on to the next.”

I stared down into her desperate ass face and spit in it. “Bitch if you don’t tell me where Meka is I’ma be the last muthafucka you see on this earth. Just like yo momma was.”

She looked up at me with her chest heaving and tears sliding down her cheeks. She was so consumed with anger she started trembling. It was almost like she’d forgotten I was the one who killer her moms.

“Even if you kill me, I still beat you Phat Kat. I took the muthafucka you always thought would be there to hold you down. All it took was for him to sample what this bad ass white bitch got and he forgot all about Phat Kat. Just like when we were working at the Black Leopard. They loved them some Phat Kat but they loved Kim K. more.” She sneered up at me with tears still racing down.

“Tell that to yo momma in hell bitch.”

Just as I was about to pull the trigger, both F-250’s came racing down the alley. Even from that distance I could see it was the Mexican cat I robbed in Vegas, leaning out of the passenger side of the silver F-250. He started chopping at me with an AK-47. Each .223 round echoed like thunder through the alley every time he fired. Kim K. rolled away in the opposite direction. I fired a couple of shots at her as I cut through a yard and ran back towards the church on Kinnickinnic. I was pissed and frustrated that those pickups kept showing up at the wrong got damn time. Jahlil wasn’t lying about LMF being on my ass.
How in the hell did they know to find me at the funeral?

Jahlil came speeding down Kinnickinnic in the Charger. He was going so fast that when he hit the brakes it sounded like a race car coming to a screeching halt. After I hopped in, he burned a little more rubber when he punched the gas to take back off.

“How the fuck they know nigga?” Jahlil flinched when I pointed the nine milli at him.

“Are you crazy? Put that muthafucka up.” He steered the Charger with his left hand as he shielded himself with his right arm.

“Well you better start talking nigga.”

“You wanna play it like that?” Jahlil swerved into the parking lot of a nightclub that closed down years before. He climbed out on one leg and hopped around until he got his crutches out of the back and began pushing off.

“Where the hell you going on crutches nigga?” I yelled as I climbed out.

“Go on and shoot me in the back since you can’t trust me.” The sound of sirens had me looking in every direction before I went after him. The drama at the church had the whole area hot.

“What the hell am I suppose to think?” I asked still barefoot as I caught up with him and stepped in his path with my arms folded.

“We just finished promising each other to give this thing our best shot. What’s up with the trust?” he tried to hobble around me but I stayed in his way.

“My ex nigga and best friend tried to kill me. Trust is gonna take some time after you go through shit like that. Especially when these crazy ass Mexican muthafuckas show up out of nowhere.”

A couple of police cars and an ambulance raced by going in the direction of the church.

“We should get out of here. Unless you think I’ma drive you directly to the LMF.”

“If you do, I’ll just shoot you nigga.”

“You don’t think she was just trying to buy some time?”
